I wish I could be that excited for Knight Rider...but I'm not. First?
-
talk about gimmicky plotlines though
-
Wow... What an incredibly boring show. And the transformation thing is gimmicky in the worst possible way. Way too much tech to try to make it cool. The original was cheesy in its own right but there was something inherently cooler about an organization that was recognized by the government but really worked in the dark and low-key aside from the car (the big semi truck with the Knight on the side, notwithstanding). And the dialogue is atrocious. This is definitely a miss for me. Throw this on the Bionic Woman pile.
-
Mediocre at best. This show better get good quick, otherwise it's going to end up cancelled faster than you can say William Daniels
-
fify
-
Although if BIONIC WOMAN had starred Katee Sackhoff and was more of a globetrotting adventure, it would still be around.
I give KNIGHT RIDER eight episodes. -
Hulu needs to hire me to do commercials for them.. I finally watched every episode of firely that everyone creams about. (it was pretty good. I enjoyed the movie) i caught up on sarah connor chronicles: terminator (also an enjoyable watch. If you're on the fence, heres a sell point: There is a T-1000 in season 2.) got into its always sunny in philadelphia (my new favorite show)...oh yeah, Hulu rocks. So much that i dont even mind that i havent been to the movies in a month because nothing has made me feel the urge to go.
-
Just a reminder y'all.
-
This could be a good show but went to far.
The car is overdone its to much.
I want more style and less neon.
Think the Dark Knight and not Batman and Robin. -
damn copyright laws. oh and EyeofPolyphemus, bionic woman did star katee sackhoff..just in the wrong role. instead of just a "special guest star" for three or so eps. Would have made a big difference if she was the one with the full time gig.
-
First off did anyone notice that they are using almost the EXACT same sound as the classic cylon's for KITT's LED?
At what's with the TECH talk? Is this Star Trek?
Lets see what else... we all wanted Turbo Boost and we got it. Now that I've seen it all I can say is "PLEASE TAKE IT BACK" That was the worst thing I've ever seen.. EVER.
This show is beyond awful. It's reached a new level of awful. I don't know what it could be called but whatever it is I know the talkbacks will figure it out.
I give it 3 episodes. -
...shit. Gee, I wonder why people take to donloading illegally if you stick to old-fashioned distribution techniques to get your shit to the rest of the world's population. Fuck. that.
-
michael, sarah, kitt...oh my....fucking god awful...
-
piracy has made them obsolete...the world now fits in the palm of ones hand...and if they wont change the laws, all their email accounts will be hacked...for i am...ANONYMOUS!!!!!!!!!!BWHWHAHAHAHAHAH...when does heroes start...i wanna see midget hayden do her crying thingy again
-
but I want to seek this out, purely to see in what context they can fit the bat-shit insane line of "Michael we have to get his thumb back at all costs".
Sadly I don't think it will be as good as the setup or delivery I've got in my own head right now. Thats what I'd love to see - a Knight Rider with good production values but was just surreally bat-shit insane.

by lord_zedd
THAT WAS SO TERRIBLE!!! TELEVISION IS DEAD!!! And is Val Kilmer still Kitt?
-
what kinda retarded bullshit is this?? I think I just lost what little good will I had left for this show right here
-
no reason to tune in for an hour long infomercial.
-
a train and wrecks! Wow that was horrible. How could they possibly mess up something like turbo boost? And I don't even know what the plot was about... Cancel this!
-
That was the only reason I was going to watch the TV movie last year. But since he was replaced I lost all interest in the show. Sounds like I was right to stay away.
-
Fixed.
-
For anyone in the Uk am watching Hulu now. Just not this turd.
-
The reason why they're using the exact same cylon sound and look for the LED is because the original series used it, and they used it because the creator of the series was the creator of the original Battlestar Galactica. btw....This this new knight rider series sucks. The only good t.v. show out there is "TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNER CHRONICLES", well it helps that the terminator girl is cute.
-
If they keep that stuff up this show will do fine!
-
I enjoyed it. It had some interesting developments. I think it's mostly derided by those who never actually watched it.
-
What the hell do you want? It's Knight Rider for christ's sake! I think this clip I just saw captured the spirit of the show right away. This was never very deep entertainment. But it was exciting. If you didn't like that about the original why are you here? From what I could see it's an improvement on the pilot.
-
I completely agree. I watched this episode and thought that I would've found it to be cool when I was 11 or 12, (which I was when the original series started, by the time I was 13 I was all done watching it); so you're correct that it was never meant to be that heavy a show, in the first place.
This was a lot better than the "back door pilot" movie; but overall it is not supposed to be on the order of Deadwood, Lost, or any of the more heavily themed shows out there. -
...but then again, so was the Night Stalker remake. I'd buy that yesterday if Buena Vista would release it on Blu-ray (it was shot in HD).
-
cause this crap sucks. Val Kilmer is even more disaffected than he was as Batman. He has no expression, his voice is hard to hear, the car looks like a cartoon, and the show is exceptionally dumb.
-
What would that look like?
-
I think the kids will love it, and that's a good thing. I don't know if it needs to be darker or more adult or anything. The tech was silly but fun, and some of the science was ridiculous, but again, fun. Kilmer is a bit bland, which is probably the most worrying thing, but again, it's just big dumb fun. That's nice sometimes, right?
-
Too much incidental music? Not that it was loud, just on and on and on and on....
-
Heroes premieres stateside 22nd Sept., BBC has the show scheduled for Fri 3rd Oct. Not sure how they'll handle the continuous weeks off in the states as BBC will rather run the thing for 20-24 weeks solid but then the UK will be several weeks ahead of the US and I can't see that happening.
-
season 3 of Heroes in split into 2 sections: Episodes 1-13 'Villains' and Episodes 14-25 'Fugitives', so more than likely that's how they'll break it up in the UK.

the reason Bionic did not work and why not to compare KR or BW t
by thehichhiker
I think the point most are missing that under all the cheese, original BSG was actually a serious and good show. So when they remade it, they removed the cheese that bogged down the original, while keeping the spirit of the show - and as a result you got a great serious show.
You cannot do that with Bionic Woman or Knight Rider because these are NOT serious shows. The spirit of these shows IS cheese. BW tried to take themselves too seriously and failed miserably. What I loved about the KR movie is that it took the opposite approach. It was cheesy in all the same ways the original was cheesy. It captured the spirit of the original and not for a second tried to take itself seriously. It is not, not should it be, a serious good show. Its a FUN show. Of course with show runner change, they may change direction and try to make a serious show of it, if so I give it 3-5 episodes before being canned.
Heh, do you remember that episode or original KR where "Silicon Valey" was shown to be a the little village with like 5 cabins (the same village they used for ALL non-city shots)? Mond you, this is in the 80's. Priceless. -
was the chemistry between KITT and Michael. The stories were basic 1980s staples, but KITT was played as a more sarcastic and capable character. Michael was standard 80s cheese, but the Hoff played against KITT with aplomb. I thought this series was more clinical, and overplayed the car's abilities. Like Superman, an almost unbeatable car is boring. KITT needs to have fewer abilities and more character.
-
This guy is awful. He is the reason this show doesn't work. He has no charisma, no talent. A mannequin could do a better job at emoting. The lead needs to have like-ability. He should stick with soap opera's, which is what he will go back to when this show fails.
-
Showing a commercial in a country for something not available there is probably governed by some sort of laws, and thus they have to limit where the commercials are shown.
-
and they're about how old i was when the first KR was on. actually, for an 8pm family show, i kinda wish there was LESS half-naked women and thumbs getting cut off...
-
you haven't had the urge to see anything in a month because there's never anything good to see late august/early september... until Burn After Reading. I think that officially ushered in a fall of watchable flicks...
-
The product placement contract requires that the show constantly feature whatever the latest year production model is available, so when the 2009 cars roll out, the TV show has to change KITTs. When the 2010 models roll out (yeah, I am laughing too), they have to change KITTs. The whole concept of a transforming KITT is completely and entirely something done to accomodate this 30 minute TV commercial.
-
Because the producers/sponsors actually expect this show to outlast the current year's automobile models. LOL.
-
BSG had the better promotion. "BSG is smart! Smart! SMART! You gotta love it, because it's a smart show! Look, it has shakycam! That means it's gritty and realistic. And it's not just science fiction. The truth is...it's all about 9/11! See how smart we are? You didn't expect this, eh? Who cares that we got only one good actor and clichefilled scripts that make Star Trek: Voyager look like a great show? We tell you BSG is smart, so you have to believe it! Dammit, we took a silly show from the 70's and made it all dark and serious! Fuck, we are samrt!"
They should have tried the same with Bionic Woman, instead of just putting Starbuck in it. -

It gives you a US-IP. Install it (very easy) and raid Hulu to death -
this has to be the worst show on television. Hands down. I could shit a better leading role. Seriously, this sends television back 20 years. At least we all know it won't last long.
-
I watched the TV movie that this was launched from, and had only just now seen this episode. It is greatly improved all around from the movie. The cast is improved with much better actors and much better writing - with the glaring exception of the lead. He's Anakin Skywalker in a Ford.
But the show looked good. It's story arc seems to beg borrow and steal heavily from the TV series La Femme Nikita, and that is not a bad thing. That show re-invented spy-thriller television and any show that wants to take a shot at ripping it off (hello, Alias!) will probably do pretty well in its own regard.
I just worry that it will suffer from 'eternal enigma' - the condition where shows based upon 'holes in people's memories' never really can reveal themselves. They always wind up dragging the mystery into deeper and deeper depths of silliness until viewers just walk away from it, and it dies alone in a forgotten timeslot with a tacked on ending that cannot possibly ever work right (hello, Nowhere Man!). -
And I'm at work, so I got paid to watch it!! The part where KITT is a truck and comes to a stop on the subway tracks made me spit out my drink it was so funny. Funny in a pathetic way I mean!
-
One man (and a huge team of FBI and Computer Experts) can make a difference....and a terrible show.
-
why doesnt NBC just bring back baywatch. then they wouldnt need some lame "plot" excuse to put "actors" in their skivies. CSI: Baywatch - do it. it cant fail.
-
...will we be remaking the remakes of Knightrider, Bionic Women and BSG?Just wondering...
-
NBC should have learned that when a backdoor pilot has high rating, but universally panned by critics and viewers alike that you are wasting money making it a series. I watched the backdoor pilot, but I won't be watching the series.
-
Wooden fucker
-
I realize that they used that sound in the original version but at least in the old series they modified it. This is just a straight up drag and drop sound effect.
-
I love how this guy has just gotten by in Hollywood with average stories, average scripts that generate average ratings. Did anyone tell this dumbshit that Knight Rider isn't Las Vegas? How NBC keeps this guy on the payroll is beyond me. He must be blowing someone... little fucking troll that he is.
-
NOT BAD! All you worry warts about Kitt being a DEAD personality, can be relieved, they are going to make Kitt a learning computer, and over time he will develope into his own personality. I like the changes in the amount of energy and excitement the were severly lacking in that horrible movie they made. I think this show is about fun, action, FAST AWESOME LOOKING mustang, and sillyness. The idea that a Car can transform into a HUGE ASS TRUCK is SILLY but for some reason it didn't bother me. I was able to just sit back and go, "okay, that's fun" and then enjoy. This is not ER...this is not some serious James Bond Movie, though they did steal stuff from JB...Looks like a fun show, I'll be there to watch if they keep it up.
-
StarQurtrs- you're an idiot
-
Just watched the Pilot too. Looks like K.I.T.T. had a Hollywood make-over, went from a red voice line to a HAL-ish red eye that would flash. Also see they got rid of Mike's Vegas Roommate.
-
I really bashed the shit out of the tv movie in the talkbacks when it came on. After watching the first episode, all I can say is it's not bad. It's still not great, but when it ended I want to know what happens next. The transformations suck, but I can deal with it.
-
yeah i guess i should have said "I dont MISS the fact that i havent been to the movies in a month." (and I'm even finding a hard time getting myself to the theatre for "burn after reading." And im a clooney/coen bros fan.)and to you non-USA talkbackers, sorry about copywrite laws, go download that thing quintana007 mentioned and bask in HULU's glory.
-
I'm going to download it in HD on iTunes. You should too.
-
"Its best sequence? There’s a moment when K.I.T.T. attempts to console someone who has lost her father. It’s a machine…an AI…and doesn’t know how to relate to raw emotions, so all it can do is try to be there for her by using (literally) textbook examples and research materials. K.I.T.T. feels very much like vintage Spock in this script. There’s a coldness to it, but also a sweet charm."

It's one of those "only available in the US" things, and I don't feel like setting up a proxy just to watch a youtube video. So what's the deal with the whole showrunner change? did they recast the whole show after the pilot movie? did the lesbian FBI agent survive?
-
Over what? The sound effects or that it's just a really bad f'ing show? You say it's for kids in another post, sure I'll buy that. Though I'd have to say the half naked girls and guys don't exactly make it PG rated. Idiot or not, you can enjoy the show for however long it lasts. Maybe you'll get luck and it will last as long as Gary Scott's other turd Las Vegas did.
-
Horrible.
-
If they had made Starbuck the star, and changed the title to "Evil Bionic Woman", it would still be on now, and it would be my favorite show.
-
generalities but no real reasons why people here don't like it. Sure the original required a alot of suspension of disbelief. But if you didn't like that whay are you here? I think people who like KR aren't taking it seriously and see the little kid excitement in it. A little escapism. So far though in the criticism here I haven't heard one thing that you couldn't have said about the original. Sorry not one. If you like to watch some of the mindless comedies or brainless " Reality " shows out there surely you don't have a problem with this? One person said they stopped watching the old show when they were 13. Well I still go back and watch ( and enjoy ) shows that I watched when I was 13. I'm 55 now. Anyone who takes life so seriously that they can't be a little kid again for awhile is already dead in my book.

HONESTLY THE ORIGINAL WASN'T VERY GOOD. THIS LOOKS BEYOND BAD!
by eoneon
Sorry, but it's true. the original KR doesn't hold up at all. why they are remaking a sub par 80's show is beyond me. but hey, hollywood is all out of ideas.i'm not gonna rip on the remake until i see it,but if it's bad after 3 oe 4 eps, then it's toast. i don't know anyone who seems interested by this. good luck though. peace to all who seek it! namaste
-
...it's retool of Viper.
This feels like Viper. There's no need for a command center.
The only time i got the olden golden KR feel was when it was Mike and KITT, by themselves...trying to pick up the package. The driving sequences were SH&T, too kinetic. This version of Turbo Boost...MUST DIE NOW! Pointless view of the engine, discharging gas with movable nozzles...c'mon! Attack KITT...it's palatable in small doses, but there's really no reason for it. Standard KITT is cool enough, but there needs to be NO BADGES....Badges? We Don't Need No STEEKING Badges! We all know it's a Mustang, a KR500Shelby at that.
If Gary Scott Thompson is smart enough soon enough, he'll ditch the KITT CAVE (BLOW IT UP, give Michael Knight a baptism by fire, something to direct his anger towards, revenge for killing his friends, not some lame Iraq back story that we could care less about), and get back to Mike and KITT going from town to town, helping people who helpless, powerless, to fight criminals who operate above the law. Cripes, I want the FLAG Trailer back, not some Knight R&D lab with a gym 20 feet away. Bloated is what this concept feels like. You can tell that the powers that be want this set to be shown as much as possible.
This show only needs 3 actors...A Driver (Michael Knight Jr.), the head honcho (which should have been, could have been the HOFF), and a tech, preferably hot, preferably not connected previously to the driver (There's too much back story with Sarah Graiman, for her to work with an operative that needs to work alone..too much involvment on a relationship level..that's why the whole Bonnie and Michael thing worked well). Michael Knight needs to be a loner, not a team player...maybe they should have called this instead Team Knight Rider.
Is this cheese? This new version is trying too hard. Too much is being thrown at the wall, and it needs to fall away. Pear it down to the basics, and have entertaining stories that work on their own. No Threading needed to work.
If this stays as is, it's going the way of Street Hawk with 9 episodes and out. At least Viper did better, and lasted like 4 seasons. Heck, TKR might last longer than this... -
you just put way too much thought into a shit show.
On a side note- someone email Pennsy, kbell is on leno or conan tonight. -
You didn't like the original why the hell are you here?
-
But the original as dated as it is I liked ( for the fun of it ). The new one I also like for the fun of it.
-
Maybe you're right, but most everyone here's complaining that the show sucks, and all I'm doing is shooting from the hip and putting my 2 cents as what I think needs to change.
I was the geek that watched the original religiously. Hated the April season (sorry Rebecca Holden). No Need for RC3 (sorry Peter Parros). Super Pursuit Mode was done season 4 to get people to watch show again. All the evil twins (Goliath, Garth, and KARR) were a good gimmick. The first season had the right approach, the show got more cheesy as time went on. -
The chick is hot at least.
-
First of all, far too many techs in the KITT cave. I thought this was supposed to be a secret organization? So many people in there willing to give up secrets. Second, Val Kilmer sucks. He sounds like he's frickin' asleep. Third, the orb inside the car looks very lame. Fourth, dialog sucks, but then it wasn't so great on the original show either.
So, plenty of room for improvement. Let's hope it gets better before the eventual Hoff and Daniels guest spots. -
1 - the acting was terrible. 2 - it felt very 'small' screen. it didnt have any kind of the cinematic feel of modern drama/adventure shows. it all looked like it was filmed on a backlot. i didnt feel any sense of this taking place in a larger world. 3 - what happened to the whole "one man can make a difference"? there's way too many supporting useless stupid characters. sassy asian chick (isnt she on Chuck?) and dopey brilliant scientist kid. ugh. 4 - so does the whole almost married the kitt inventors daughter subplot mean we wont get the 'michael knight girl of the week' or even 'michael knight GIRLS of the week'? 5 - how the hell did they get from the bed of the pickup truck kitt into the seats of regular kitt when it transformed? 6 - 'attack' kitt DID NOT ATTACK ANYTHING. 7 - whats the point of having a car thats a sel-aware totally independent mobile crime lab and crime fighting vehicle if it has to always come back to some hangar/garage? where is the semi truck? 8 - why didnt kitt just 'turbo boost' to avoid the missle? 9 - if kitt could 'divert most of his power' to keep mike and sarah cool inside the car while it was burning, then why couldnt he mask mike's heat signature from the missile while he was inside the car in the first place? totally completely stupid plot hole. ugh. 10 - did i mention the terrible acting?
-
this show is just like the original only the bad actors are more glossy.
-
Better than the horse shit pilot they showed.
-
The acting was bad. The opening sequence felt like they were copying the look of BATMAN BEGINS and doing it badly. The napalm was just an excuse to strip the girl. She looks fine in her undies, but it was cheap a cheap ploy.. The computer tech is overwhelming. KITT is way too powerful. The bulk of the episode was one big, brainless car chase.
How's that? -
When the pilot came out, I said hey, give it a chance. Now? This is a total piece of shit. The CG? Shit. Sets? Shit. Plot?!? None. The car? I love the new mustang, I really do. But this bullshit attack mode (the one in the pilot kicked much ass) transformer shit just looks plain crappy. I didn't realize NBC outsourced their special effects to Academy of Art students. Stop sucking cock, bring back the real theme, the real car and the real KITT.
-
Wow. F-ing wow. So yeah, like many other unfortunate souls, I watched the Knight Rider premiere. I feel like Michael Bay just had a bastard love child with Days of our Lives. "Ohhhh, it's so hot in this flaming car ... we have to take our clothes off." I bet it's written into the show that both Michael and Sarah have to be shown in their underwear at least once each episode. As for the rest, I can only repeat what namasteandgoodluck said. The CG is flat out embarassing. The Sci-fi channel original movies CG looks better than that crap. And worse yet, the attack mode car does look terrible. The car in the pilot movie made me long for a Mustang KR, but this crap is pitiful. The "acting" is a joke. And KITT becomes a truck? Are you serious? Ford to NBC: "Yeah, we really need to clear out a lot of these F-150's that we can't get rid of ever since gas prices shot up, can you have it transform into a truck sometimes?" Good thing this show won't last long. Otherwise Ford might have NBC transform KITT into a Taurus to haul some kids to a soccer game.
-
...and I cannot believe I was just forced to say that. It's not terrible, but it's not good.
-
Someone having a DDL for that?, 'cause it can't be accessed from outside USA.
(And those asses still have a WWW-Adress, yet they're more like they're having an URL like http://USA. ).
Please don't get me wrong, I'm really liking your Country, but such behaviour from any site on the Internet is just too rude, to be accepted by me.
So I'm repeating my request, if anyone manages to download or capture that whole Episode on the Net, then just upload it somewhere and give us non-US-Residents an URL to get it. -
God i miss the venture brothers already. I give this 8 episodes, forced hiatus, 3 episode wrap up, for a total of 11. OR!!!! The Hoff comes back as both Michael and Miguel Knight and they have a karaoke contest, at which point Germany pays for 4 more series' The really is very little on offer new series wise this year. AND OI!!!! HERC!!!! CAN WE HAVE YOUR TOP 5 NEW SHOWS WITH REVIEWS N STUFF PLEASE.
-
Here are my thoughts on what I didn't like about the new show:
1. The transformations suck. I don't mind if he can change colors, but turning into a truck is stupid.
2. The attack mode looks silly. I liked how K.I.T.T. looked in the tv movie better. The wheels are stupid, they should be black for stealth. KITT shouldn't look like a hot rod. What's next? Flames on KITT.
3. The special effects suck. I think Power Rangers had better effects. The effects stand out like what stop motion did when inserted into live action movies in the old days.
4. Why is there a FBI agent there? It just bugs me for no reason why the FBI is involved.
I don't have a problem with all the techs and agents in the KITT cave. People say its a secret organization, but MiB was also a secret organization, but have many agents. (Sorry for comparison, but it was the only example I could think of at the moment.)
I hope they fix some of the special effect problems, but I doubt it. -
Terrible. If KITT just has an internal combustion engine running off gasoline - according to the pilot episode - then how exactly would it still run in the chamber with all the oxygen sucked out? And in post-production, they should've made it look like it was shot on film. You can do that with HD, but it looked like video. Just absolutely terrible. If you have a TiVo, you can download it for free off Amazon Unbox, and of course you can also watch it for free on Hulu.com. Actually, I feel ripped off...they should've paid me to watch this.
-
I was just thinking that John Barrowman would be a better lead on this show. And even though he's gay, I think he could act more successfully at having chemistry with the female semi-lead.
