MONSTER HOUSE Makers Team Again For AIRMAN!!

Published at:  Sep 18, 2008 12:27:39 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

“Airman,” a children’s book by Eoin Colfer (“Artemis Fowl”), will be the next motion-capture movie for “Monster House” masterminds Gil Kenan and Robert Zemeckis.

The Hollywood Reporter describes the premise:

The swashbuckling scientific story centers on Conor Broekhart, a young man born in a hot air balloon to a family close to the king who has a penchant for looking to the skies for inspiration. After his tutor and king are murdered, Broekhart spends two years in prison, escapes and must decide whether to should turn his back on those who abandoned him or fight those who plot to overthrow the government.

"Airman" director Kenan's follow-up to "Monster House" is Universal's Oct. 10 sci-fi tale "City of Ember." "Airman" roducer Zemeckis directed the motion-capture features "The Polar Express" and "Beowulf."

So, they expect City of Ember to bomb then?

    by s0nicdeathmonkey

not often a good sign when a director signs up for a job before the last film comes out, is it? I interviewed Kenan for Monster House. He's a good guy. Lots of energy. Lots of life. Very funny and smart.

Incidentally, Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to write a sixth instalment of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series.

I'm pretty sure thats actually good...

    by boardbrtn

Its a good sign s0nicdeathmonkey. It means the studios have faith that City of Ember will make a decent amount of money and are thus willing to spend some more money on him for another project.

    by elvispresleehorsleyharveyoswaldoprahwinf

What about Rob Schrab & Dan Harmon?
    They made Monster House cool.

    but which motion capture style?

    by bouncy x

will this be the realistic look zemeckis is going for with his directed movies or will it be the same cartoony style that monster house used? either way, with his new motion capture affair, how long before he makes back to the future 4 using it? i mean micheal j. fox could even just do the voice if he wasnt up for the actual acting and shit. and since those movies are still in 1985, imagine all the awesome 3D jokes they could use, pure cinematic gold.

And that's interesting about a new Back To The Future, BouncyX. If they released a new one in 2015, we'd have 3 of them set 30 years apart.

Sounds Cool - MoCap is Perfect For Superhero Flicks

    by cowboyone

If I was at DC I'd consider mo-cap with the JL. The TMNT trailer was probably one of the best Superhero trailers in a long time. I think Airman (despite the LAME name) sounds like it has some real potential.

I know Zemeckis' company signed a deal to make films for Disney, so is this one of them? Or is it with another company?

by shut the fuck up donny

I think you're going to see a lot more of this aesthetic--not less--in the upcoming future. In the past two years alone at scifi/fantasy conventions, this crowd has grown exponentially.

    Airman? Why not Artemis Fowl?

    by rich g

Airman was a pretty good book, compared to a lot of the other Harry Potter knockoffs out there in the middle grade market. But why hasn't Artemis Fowl been made into a movie yet? That book is screaming for some awesome graphics. If you've read it, just image the fight between Butler and the Troll in glorious CGI. And if it does well, books 2 through 6 could be next (though 4 and 5 weren't quite up to par...)

Colfer is a bit slick but is full of crazy ideas, warped humour and biting dialogues...would love to see Artemis Fowl the movie.
