An Untitled Anthony Minghella/Saul Zaentz film featuring the Seven Deadly Sins as characters'

Published at:  Jun 22, 1999 4:37:33 AM CDT

Alright folks... Let's see what we can find out about this film! These guys are incredibly talented and we need to keep on top of whatever it is they are working on. Here's the report.....

Saul Zaentz (English Patient) and Anthony Minghella (Jim Henson's The
Storyteller), are reuniting
on a new project that, as yet, has no title, but sounds mighty strange.

The film will be shot from an untitled script by Minghella, which he will not
direct, which tells the
story of a man who becomes suicidal when he realizes his marriage is kaput.
He is stopped from
carrying out his impulses by living embodiments of the seven deadly sins who
attempt to convince
him to live life according to their passions.

For the production the Saul Zaentz Co. will partner with The Jim Henson
Company in the
production which will have a budget in the $30 million range. Brian Henson
revealed that the
seven deadly sin characters will be realized by a "mixture of animatronics
and CGI."

Filming is expected to start in late spring or early summer of 2000.

    This Sounds Awesome

    by moriarty

I loved the collaboration of Minghella and Henson on the series THE STORYTELLER. I don't think Minghella wrote every one of them, but he wrote quite a few, and it's one of the finest little quiet triumphs of Henson's career. The tone of that series, and of the stories each week, was so much more adult and sophisticated than the average treatment of mythology or legend that I am excited to see what form this project will take.

Have Raquel Welch as "Lust"! Oh, wait, that's been done. Never mind.

    The Storyteller

    by zcarstheme

I'm with Moriarty on this one. The Storyteller was firmly in the 'overlooked gem' category, (I watched 'The Soldier And Death' episode over and over), and this project is intriguing to say the least. Good to see a few upcoming projects that don't fall easily into well-established blueprints.

    Seven Deadly Sins

Weren't Glen Morgan and James Wong of Space: Above and Beywond and X-File fame going to do a series that had something to do with this basic concept. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with seven criminal orgainzations that were each embodiments of the seven deadly sins. I haven't heard anything else about it.

    Zaentz

    Saul fucking rules.
As I develop my own career, I think back to his award speech when he said his "cup was now overflowing". Perhaps someday I will have a cup... someday.

Saul rules, Minghella aint no slacker. They kinda look alike too, perhaps they will be in Staw Wars Episode II as brothers, and then again, perhaps the majority of studios in hollywood will be headed up by disturbed know-nothing relentlessly self promoting d-girls and boys.. oops! Too late!

    Seven deadly sins

    by beggsy69

This does sound like a truly awesome project. However I do hope that the seven sins are completely CGI, something along the lines of the frightners I think would be a good idea. The man whose marriage is kaput, how about the one and only Nicolas Cage? We know from 'Leaving Las Vegas' the man can act, and for my money i'd say he could go the distance as a man who's suicidal, but is tempted by the indulgences of the seven sins. Because lets face it, they are pretty funky, look at seven as an example of that, although maybe for this film it shouldn't be quite the extremism that there was in Seven. Something that ticks along at a nice pace, looking at the more humouress side of the sins, with the exception of death, because hey, making death funny, aint the easiest job on the plantet. Well till next time, this is the only and only Chris B.

    Death? A sin?

Just curious - since when was Death one of the seven deadly sins?

    ...and another thing

This does sound pretty cool. But what about this part - the sins "attempt to convince him to live life according to their passions". Sure, that'll work for most of the sins, but what about Envy? I can't imagine being swayed from suicide by the promise of Envy's passions. Well, whatever, I'm just being nit-picky. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this shapes up.
