The Creators of THE WIRE and OZ Team For Proposed HBO Mini MANHUNT, About The Search For Assassin John Wilkes Booth!!

I am – Hercules!!
Tom Fontana, who helped “Wire” creator David Simon adapt his book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets" into NBC’s 1993 cop drama, is reteaming with Simon for a proposed HBO miniseries based on James L. Swanson's book “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer.”
Simon, who oversaw the HBO miniseries “The Corner” and “Generation Kill,” is also at work on “Treme,” an HBO series about post-Katrina New Orleans.
Fontana is no stranger to HBO either, having created its prison drama “Oz.”

Wasn't Harrison Ford attached to this at one point?
-
Secondly, the Wire is the single greatest achievement in American narrative storytelling since the post war novelist period.
-
Wasn't Ford attached to a similar project? is this the same thing? Anyone know?
-
The book was awesome. As I was reading it, I couldn't help but think it would be perfect for a film or television adaptation. I'm shocked and really glad to see this is being made, especially with this kind of talent behind it.
Ah! I'm seriously geeking out right now. -

aren't they making a movie of this with harrison ford???
by reynard muldrake
pretty sure. yep i'm sure. probably already wrapped. and The Wire - best show ever.
-
Anything on AMC would be 10X better on HBO.
-
Based on their track record, I'll be watching this.
-
I guess that's why HBO is doing it.
-
both shows are classics, and David Simon can do no wrong. can't wait to see this series.
-
Therefore, HBO > AMC
-
I have no idea why I never watched this series before. I am on season 3 now and I have to say it is one of the most amazing things I have watched. It transcends the medium and works more like a visual novel. I am very excited to hear that the creators are going to have more televised crack for me to get hooked on.
-
The Wire is unmatched. Generation Kill was all you could wish for from a book adaptation. Treme looks to be quality and now this.
Good Times. -
Better late than never. Also, I read one of the first posts as "Simon should make a show about Pokemon."
-
Oz and The Wire are as good as it gets!
-
..one hell of a gritty search for old JWB.
-
Just about guaranteed to be awesome, which I used to be able to say about any show debuting on HBO. Oh well, hopefully this a step back in the right direction.
-
Ian McShane should be in this!
-
...two Thursdays ago. Started season one around 6 pm Thursday. I finished season five on Monday. I watched all five seasons in about four days time. I have to agree: best television series ever.
-
A whole season about a 12-day chase will be interesting.
-
Broadcasting & Cable has a much more detailed article about this series, with quotes from Simon and Fontana.

What's your objection to the book? Or is that just a fantasy criticsm? I thought it was great and I will be happy to see this replace that shitty John Wilkes Booth TV movie with Rob Morrow. I kind of liked Lance Henriksen as Lincoln, though.
-
Ian McShane? Probably a bit too old eh? Timothy Olyphant? He's bretty badass.
Eh. I guess I can only think Deadwood cause they all have mustache's. :P -
The book was an extremely entertaining piece of work, and I always thought it would be perfect for a miniseries. No, it's not 100% accurate, but there is no way of being accurate about everything when it comes to that time period. It's historical fiction people, get over it.
-
I can't wait to see Fontana's dialogue reunited with Simon's vision...

I am still in mourning that The Wire is gone.

Never will we see its like again. The most satisfying TV show ever.
-
Hopefully Bunk and McNulty are the investigators, and John Wilkes Boothe ends up sharing a cell with Schillinger...

HBO = Giant Budget, Boobs + Fucks, AMC Not so giant budget, no T

Therefore, HBO > AMC.
At least for miniseries. HBO's returning shows from the last years are indeed not nearly as good as the stuff on F/X, Showtime and AMC. -
Lee Tergesen as JWB. I can just see him with the wavy hair and the mustache.
-
I thought that there was a movie of this book with Harrison Ford starring.
-
Anyone remember the late, great "Homicide: Life on the Street?!" Simon and Fontana were two of the guiding forces on that classic cop show from the '90s. Early on, there was a homicide detective Steve Crosetti, who was obsessed with the notion that Lincoln was not killed by Booth but the victim of a larger conspiracy. I had to chuckle when reading that years later, two of the men who breathed life into that great character and his obsession are now actually tackling the real story.
-
reaches blindly into its past, hoping for another lightning strike. too little too late. time to clean house in the development dept. starting at the time.
-
Aside from the escort missions, like the one with the bum... But still a kickass game. I have yet to play Manhunt 2, but did recently get it off of Amazon for a mere $4. It's got to be worth at least that $4 of my time.
-
People who use this term must be huge douchebags.
-
'Cause he talked back. -
(ironically, along with the Adams miniseries on DVD), still haven't read it yet, but apparently it's supposed to very good.
-
This will be a 6-Part Series that they cancel on ths 3rd episode.
-
I'm not sure a movie can do it justice, at least not any more than any other Lincoln movie, but I wish them luck
-
One of the best people working on TV right now if not the best (actually probably the best).
-
1 day per episode makes sense. This will work much better as a mini-series than movie. I wonder if they'll be allowed to film in Fords Theater and Dr. Mudds house?
-
with Fontana involved, Abe will get assraped by Adebisi...
-
Hell yes, I watch this. The series could be a really dramatic look at events surrounding Lincoln in his final days, as well as kickass as a post-Civil War manhunt story.
Sounds good to me. -

Ford was attached to star in a feature based on this exact book
by bigtuna
But I don't see it listed on IMDB anymore for him. I guess something happened and they nixed it. It was going to have the same title too.
