Hercules Deals Five Stars To Showtime’s Funny, Moving And Suspenseful 4th-Season Finale of WEEDS!!
SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!
Tonight concludes the fourth season of “Weeds,” which I deem its best since season one.
Six reasons to tune in tonight:
1) Suburban dope-pusher Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker) gets the most naked ever tonight. Though the series has long trafficked in guest-star nudity, this is the first season in which Parker sheds.
2) Brother-in-law Andy Botwin (Justin Kirk) has it out with best-buddy Doug Wilson (Kevin Nealon), and comes to perhaps the most profound realization of his life. (Hint: nothing to do with homosexuality.)
3) On his 18th birthday, oldest son Silas Botwin meets the husband of the hot cheese-shop owner (Julie Bowen) he’s been boning.
4) Celia Hodes’ older daughter Quinn (Haley Hudson), who played a key role in the 2005 pilot but until last week’s episode had been essentially Chuck Cunninghammed out of the “Weeds” universe, makes her first appearance since season one and gets the best line of tonight’s episode.
5) Last week’s episode concluded with the torture of a federal agent, who – just before he was executed – revealed to murderous Tijuana mobsters that it was Nancy who told the DEA about the smuggle-tunnel to Mexico.
6) Near episode’s end, there’s a sad scene with Nancy ordering a gift basket – a scene that could nab Emmys for both Parker and series mastermind Jenji Kohan, who wrote this concluding installment.
10 p.m. Monday. Showtime.

but is the scene as hot? it's pretty hard to top the sex scene with the mayor. hooray for having the computer in my bedroom!!!
-
Happend in the episode where her and the mayor dude went at it and she went home with scratch marks, she was distictly nude there. as it could see the ass and the boobs
-
it must be a pretty awesome episode then, because the first half of season 4 seemed pretty aimless and muddled to me, the greatness of Albert Brooks notwithstanding.
the second half of this season has been a return to form and makes up for the lazy first half (and also the lazy descent of season 3) but - not having seen the finale - it'd still have to be pretty great to match seasons 1 & 2. -
If so, me sad.
-
were pretty lame this season, even with Mr Brooks. But since then it has been the best of the 4 or at the very least tied with season 2. And I love seeing this broad nude , not because she's got a fantastic bod but because she's sexy. Her bod is good don't get me wrong just not stunning. She's to white for me , and her breasts are small..and well she's in her 40's right?
-
I was so surprised by the quality of the last two episodes. Just absurdly awesome and wayyy darker than I ever thought it would go. HOW CAN THEY KEEP HER (or at least some of her friends and family) ALIVE, I MEAN, REALLY? I also have hated the youngest son until now, where I argue the validity of him hooking up with TWO chicks, I do like that he's gotten "evil."
-
...Why? BECAUSE-THEY-CAST-JULIE-BOWEN-AND-SHE-NEVER-HAD-A-REAL-SEX-SCENE. And, no, being gone down on on top of a counter doesn't count! Biggest cocktease casting for an adult show since THE SHIELD cast the hot latino chick from MULLHOLLAND DRIVE and didn't show her having sex with Vic.
-
I miss the pitch-perfect pot gags from the first season. The show's become way too serious, like MASH towards the end.
-
and I think he's right about that.
-
This season is the best season since season one? I think I lost a little respect for you Herc. I have been watching Weeds since the very beginning and loved seasons one and two. They had a lot of off-the-wall dark comedy with a nice bit of drama thrown in for good measure. Then came season three when everything went wrong. Apparently Jenji Kohan forgot that her show was a dramedy because it has lost the quirkiness that I loved in the first two seasons. I now watch the show because I've seen the other seasons. I believe that it's about time to pull the plug on Weeds just like the plug was pulled on the grandma earlier in the season.
-
Love that song. I wish there would be an old school punk version, a NWOBHM version and a death metal version.Probably have to wait until they move back into suburbia when the show becomes darker and even more comedic.Weeds is a modern day Happy Days.
-
Jeez, read please. He said she gets more naked than the last time, which was the episode where she boned the Mayor and got scratched. In other words, expect to see more of her here. Also, if that isn't enough, go watch Grand Canyon, she's all naked in that.
-
but it was worth it for U-Turn buying seven Priuses because they're easier for sneaking up on rival gang members during a drive-by
-
because vampires suck. ba dum chhh
-
but this season has been absolutely incredible. I'd say it's better than any season of The Office, and MAYBE even Arrested Development. Not only has this season been the funniest, but it's just been fantastic storytelling. Each episode has ended so suspensefully, and just the way they've kept these characters interesting by constantly changing their roles (Celia especially) is great. I could rant on a lot longer about how great this season has been, but I'll keep it short. This will be the first time I hope Weeds wins best comedy for this season. Also, Mary Louise Parker's acting has been its best yet this year.
-
Seriously, did you watch the pilot?
Zero energy. -
the scene where she's talking to Shane about jerking off to his mother, and to Silas about fucking a mother substitute.
That was award winning comedy right there. -
My thoughts from another forum:This show use to be very exciting. Now it's reduced to a disfunctional Sopranos-wanna-be where the writers and creators overestimate their ability to tell a story. That isn't a slight against Sopranos, as that is one of my favorite shows. I just think Weeds is trying to venture down the same path.
The show USE to be about a single mother dealing drugs in order to take care of her family. Now it's just about how screwed up her family is, and the show wallows in that disfunction. The scope also seems dramatically reduced. There are less characters, less story arcs...hell, less locales! Even the characters themselves seem like they've devolved into cardboard cutouts. If I were to describe Nancy in one word, it'd be 'slut'.
The comedy use to come from the situations and how the characters react. Now the writers are guilty of the same thing the writers of House were guilty of for a while (middle of Season 4): forcing the comedy instead of allowing it to play out naturally. They're desperate and that's apparent with the cheap comedy present in this season. It seems they go for the comedy first and the drama second, and that's a huge problem for a show like this.
Not to say I don't enjoy it at times, but I definitely think this is by far the weakest season I've seen. Very little excitement at all.
-
True Blood craps all over the vampire mythos even further than other shows, taking it into the realm of shitty paranormal romance novels where the vampires are not monsters, not cursed undead, but merely a minority that just wants to be loved. Fuck that.
Weeds is awesome, though. Great build-up, great storytelling, fun characters... It has everything, and it makes me genuinely care about what happens next.
-
"Used to", my friend. English, motherfucker- Do you speak it?
-
Glad that's the only think you could pick out to hold against me! Looks like you're just reacting because we disagree about the show.
-
Have to agree, she is damn hot and can act. Julie Bowen is also smoking. This has been a very strong season if you ask me.
-
Because the first few episodes were complete duds. The last season was was my favorite. It seems like they lost it.
-
is it that he's in love with Nancy? they've been hinting at it since the season premier.
-
I'm definitely getting that vibe from the show, and not just because of Anna Paquin. Psychic powers, civil rights, televised debates, super speed, super strength, the "bad" vampires, the "accidental" deaths of people who speak out against them... It really does play out as some kind of Southern Swamp X-men. Only very slowly paced. I'll give it a little longer to really hook me.
As for Weeds, I just started watching it this season. Very enjoyable, though it's not must-watch television for me yet. -
I also agree that this has been something that's been steadily hinted at this season. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they had sex. And yes, that double scene of Nancy talking to Shane/Silas was absolutely incredible. Wonderfully funny and uncomfortable, but also very well written.
-
My favorite season of this show was Season 2, followed by S1. But I think this one beats out S1 for me, so I'd say it's my 2nd favorite. Sure beats the hell outta season 3. It took major guts for them to throw everything out the window and reinvent the show so dramatically like they did this season, and I really think they pulled it off, which just makes it even more impressive, imo. Viewers of TV serials don't tend to like change very much though, at least not major changes (lots of cries of "this is not the show I fell in love with!!"), which probably accounts for a great deal of the mixed reactions this season has gotten. That's why most shows don't even attempt to do what this show did this season. Like I said - guts.
-
nancy is no longer a character you can identify with, and celia is just plain annoying and pathetic. andy is still awesome, but he's best reacting to things, not being part of doug's schemes.
-
I liked the finale.
SPOILERS
Thought they set up the ending well with Andy's comment while Nancy was in the tub. -
Weeds was starting to lose me, but this episode went a long way in bringing the mojo back. Especially liked the unexpected Kevin Nealon scene and the setup for Celia's fate.
-
It'll be a painful time waiting for new episodes. I just love the way HOW Mary Louise-Parker acts. She does so much with her eyes and inflection. The conversation with her on the carphone is a good example, or in the bathtub. Also, Roy Till should get an Emmy nomination.
-
It should be fantastic. She must love the writers so much, as she's constantly remaining dynamic. Look at all the changes her character went through in this season alone: jail, addiction, rehab...I also love how much Nancy knows she's really been a terrible mother. I dare say her and Don Draper are not that different.
-
Sorry, I don't understand all the love people are throwing at this.
Yay, we see Nancy's boobies and yes, Doug's scene was hilarious. Celia's, not so funny.
But everything else in the show was as though it wasn't even a season finale. Nothing was resolved, and nothing led to a cliff hanger like the season 2 ender.
Maybe I was just expecting too much, but I wouldn't even rate this episode as the best of season 4. -
This season has been one of the best seasons of the series. Shows have to grow and so do good "business" people in the underground. From season 1 to the end of this season, we have seen Nancy grow into a powerhouse player in the drug game. And while yes, it is a little rushed, this chick has gone full on gangster by holding her own in the game. I don't think the pregnancy is real. I really think it is buying her time to not get executed. And for those complaining about the writers not keeping story arcs straight, kiss my ass! We have two more seasons of this show to see where Nancy ends up and I personally think season 5 is going to be epic with both a depressed DEA agent on her ass ready to kill her and her Mayor drug-lord boyfriend willing to assassinate her. And the progression of her youngest son's bad ways is going to be great writing. So for those of you complaining that the character of Nancy Botwin is no longer someone you can relate to, why don't you realize that as a drug running mother things go downhill and you lose control of your life eventually while trying to run an underground operation. I don't think you can connect with that when you're some geek judging a show in your living room. Personally, from someone who's seen people lose themselves to the drug game, I think it is a very realistic portrayal of the hardships a family goes through when that happens. So I think I can still connect well with Nancy in that respect.
-
Was my favourite line tonight. Looking forward to season 5 immensely.
-
I'm going to have to side with those that say the show has lost something. While I did think this episode was one of the best of the series, the season as a whole was missing something. For me, what made this show so great was the irony. Here was this upper-middle class woman, in this pristine gated community... on the surface. Underneath she's selling weed and hob-nobbing with the not so elite. That's why it was great. This season, it kind of lost that aspect of it. I miss Agrestic and all of it's quirks.
-
That's what happened to the show in the middle seasons. Except for Conrad and Shane, every character was a selfish asshole. There was so little heart in the show I almost quit watching. It was so "oooo, look how nasty we can be, look how edgy we are"...Nihilism for nihilisms sake. Some people love a show with totally unlikable charcters (on Seinfeld the entire country seemed to). But you can't be "edgy nihilistic" when children are involved. When its essentially a family comedy. The original situations and very clever writing only went so far. I am so glad that Kenji finally realized it this season. The show found its heart. Now, some of it didn't make sense, Andy was one of the show BIGGEST assholes and now he's the "coyote who cares". Huh? Not that he didn't love his extended family but always in a selfish prick kind of way. But Kirk is a good enough actor to transverse the character reversal. And of course MLP is as magnificent an actress as we have working right now. I celebrate this season of Weeds in the name of the downfall of stupid, "cool" nihilism.
-
IAmJack'sUserID pretty much said it all. I use to be able to sympathize with Nancy as she did what she had to to protect the family she loved but now she doesn't seem to care about them at all. WTF did she think would happen by crossing the Mexican mafia? Granted, she seems to be squirming her slutty self out of this one again, but that DEA partner could have just as easily been one of her family. I guess I'm suppose to feel this way since even in the story, Shane was hinting that she should be in jail and that's true. Not because of drug dealing but because she keeps putting everyone in danger. But that isn't the show that I once found endearing. Every season gets darker and darker and every season gets worse. Leave the darkness for shows like Dexter. This isn't even a comedy anymore.
With all that said, my god what perfect titties! This is precisely why I like like smaller titties. Implants aside (not my thing), small tittites are the only hope for a 40 year old chick to still be hot. Perfect nipples too, but I digress. The thing is, I'm starting to think that, just like Nancy uses sex to get what she wants, Jenji uses Mary-Louise's hottness to keep her show going. I miss the first one and a half seasons. It was it's own genre, now it's just another crime show and the main characters barely interact. -
She's got this perfect white skin except for that big brown mole on her shoulder that you can see from space. It's just too damn sexy.
-
hahaha so of the comments are so so funny, and quite lame. I mean all I ever read is this sucks and that sucks. No one is ever happy. I mean honestly this season was amazing but of course all the dumbasses gotta be like so cool fer sure like a valley girl poser and her wannabe boyfriend. OOOO I can't like this season I gotta be all cool and say only season 1 and 2 were good cause then I am all special and individual and shit....lol...see lame right?! I say everyone likes what they like...for example I like Weeds and others like lame ass shit like The Office clone on NBC or lame ass Heroes and Smallville...its still on....holy crap and Deadwood and Carnivale and so many other really great shows aren't...NOW THAT IS SAD!!!
