Icaddy reports on a Paramount preview of GI JOE, STAR TREK, WATCHMEN & LOVELY BONES!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... now before you say, "But WATCHMEN is Warner Brothers," I'd like to note that Paramount is handling International on the film, thus - the screening in London of Paramount films - including WATCHMEN. Otherwise, looks like good news here. Give it a look...
So – I went to a paramount press screening in London yesterday to promote their 2009 slate. Obviously they confiscated our mobile phones on entry but I thought I would report in on what I saw. They were promoting GI Joe, Star Trek, Watchmen, Transformers 2, Redemption road and Lovely Bones GI Joe – we saw a number of unfinished scenes including introductions to Duke, The Baroness and Snake Eyes. We also saw a computer generating scene which acted as a story board for the eventual filming. There was a scene where the baroness comes home to France and we got to see the mansion, another scene where a member of GI Joe is captured by COBRA, Chris Eccleston and Arnold Voslo both look on form. Finally we saw a scene which involves a MASSIVE car chase and the eventually toppling of the Eiffel Tower. The film itself look like typical Steven Sommers schtik, massively enjoyable, Sienna Miller looks amazing but I do not think it will fare well with critics, action is very stylised from the scenes I saw, the character development is terrible, Marlon Wayans in particular looked bad!! Star Trek – We saw the teaser trailer and then we saw what looked to be a very very early version of the full trailer – It showed more footage of Quito as Spock, much more Chris Pine and also some John Cho and Simon Pegg footage. The film looks like immense fun and there seems to be a lot of action in it. There look of the crew and the bridge is spot on and the costumes look like the original but with a more modern and practical twist. We got to see Spock talking to his parent as well and Kirk being told to take more responsibility. There were also a lot of montage scenes involves spaceship battles, gun fights and hand to hand combat. I especially like a short clip where we see the crew running through the corridors of the Enterprise – reminded me of next generation loads. Watchmen – We had an intro from Zach Snyder and then I finally got so see the footage they showed at Movie-con. Showed much more Rorschach as well and a little scene between the comedian and 1st silk spectre right before the attempted rape. I’m slightly more optimistic about Ozymadias now having seen him in full costume and his artic palace look really spot on. I get Goosebumps every time I see footage because Snyder seems to have 100% nailed the look of the film, lets just hope the dialogue lives up to the hype, again there was very little spoken word in this footage which worries me. Finally we got to see the trailer for lovely bones – have not read the book myself but my girlfriend ensures me that from the footage I described the film should be a massive hit. Trailer is very upsetting but in my mind give away WAY too much of the plot. Anyway – just thought I would update everyone on what I saw. Seems a lot of major trailers will be coming out in November and star trek will have the Transformers 2 full trailer before it. If you use this call me icaddyforjohnnydrama

Can't wait for Watchmen.
-
Sommers bad? I'm shocked!!!!!!!
-
i wanna make JJ his babies. Via a test tube if I have too.
-
then Jackson will prove he's more than a fantasy geek guy. I hope it's good.
-
Somewhat unsure of GIJOE but very happy with Ray Park as SnakeEyes...am absolutely peeing my pants in excitement for Lovely Bones and I really do think that Watchmen will be as good if not better than the Dark Knight.
-
Seriously, what the fuck is up with that?? I thought it was basically finished and Jackson/Walsh/Boyens were moving on to the Hobbit/Hobbitpt2 scripting (also Peter's involvement with Tintin, though he isn't directing the first one)? So why is The Lovely Bones out next October?
-
watchmen
-
Although it's not the standard Sommersverse fare (As in you have to read up on stuff), I'm still seeing it. Especially since Rob Cohen ruined the third "Mummy".
-
"We also saw a computer generating scene which acted as a story board for the eventual filming."<p>at least he didn't write "story bored"...<p>and "usual Stephen Sommers schtick" (or schtik, if you won't...) is the diplomatic way of saying "crap" I've ever heard...<p>I have no sentimental attachment to GI Joe, I don't remember half the people from it, I don't give a shit. and I'm STILL mad that Sommers is doing this. I'm mad he gets to keep making crappy ass movies. seriously. can people STOP GOING TO SEE THEM so we don't have to be subjected to the endless marketing campaign full of retarded one-liners and startlingly bad special effects?
-
Cause they are doing all the Whizz Bang special effetcs man! Weta takes time to create it's masterpieces.
-
I'm only hearing positive stuff about this movie. Should I be worried?
-
is one of the best ones. Harry, you should have a link that displays all of these animations.
-
That is not at all encouraging.
-
Because Mark Wahlberg is in this film, and he's a terrible actor. Otherwise I still have hope for the film, and Jackson can do more than just fantasy, because he did make Heavenly Creatures after all. Why didn't this fool describe the trailer at all? And also The Watchmen will suck, they still haven't shown dialogue scenes, because Snyder jerks off to imagery alone.
-
Does Marky Mark seem like a poor man's Matt Damon?
-
Are you sure they didn't replace scenes from G.I.Joe with scenes from Team America?
-
...They couldn't find an english speaking person to snoop it for us.
-
That's a pretty novel idea - instead of spoofing a real movie, make real movie versions of spoofs. And thus a new genre is born.
-
says "it looks bad" in the same breath. well which is it? i'm totally bummed that sommers got GI JOE, and while i like the casting, there is so much more that just looks like this will be a fail.
-
1. Snake Eyes. Nuff said. 2. The Baroness is fucking hotter than any other female character within 10 miles of that movie.
-
"Chris Eccleston and Arnold Voslo both look on form"... Does this mean Destro in a mask, or not?
-
I'm anxiously optimistic (and guarded as hell) and G.I. Joe, and hoping against hope that it's watchable (I know, I know...). Still, I spoke with Ray Park at Dragon Con two weeks ago, and am at least happy that he's bringing Snake Eyes to the screen. He's a helluva a nice guy, so the flick's got THAT going for it.
-
icaddy? You out there? Might you say a little more about what you saw?
-
March 09 can't get here soon enough.
-
with Shatner in the captain's chair that is all

you assholes fuck up every franchise. why don't you use the Marvel, Paramount, Warner Brothers playbooks? <br> <br> oh yeah, you'd rather sue! punk ass coke snortin sluts!
-
3rd mummy was great, mark wahlberg is a great actor, gi-joe and star trek will be awesome ...cant wait
-
why do the gods keep us waiting to see this stuff? why hasn't the comic-con reel been leaked to the internets yet? why? FUCK !
-
detail about The Lovely Bones would of been nice. Actually one tiny fucking detail would of been nice. You did watch the fucker right?
-
giant squid?
-
I can't tell if he's making a joke or if this is a sad commentary on the state of the San Diego Comic Convention.
-
I hear that the Watchmen movie is going to be released on time. I don't want to hear any other Watchmen news.
-
Good job you fucking idiot. Also The Watchmen will be shit. I'm reading it again, and there is no way Snyder can make this work. I would have preferred a mini series.
-
...so no TRANSFORMERS 2 trailer on STAR TREK; TREK comes to theaters next May now. We won't see a full length TF2 trailer before next year. A teaser for TF2 this holiday season, a sizzle ad during the Super Bowl, and a full trailer sometime before Spring.
-
"We also saw a computer generating scene..." AAAGGH!!
-
When he has a good actors director telling him what to do. His two best performances have come while working for PTA and Scorsese. Otherwise he's almost always shit <P> Jackson has a rep as more of an effects specialist than an auteur (although Heavenly Creatures was excellent) so this really could go either way.
-
Had to say it.
-
next to the Mccain/Palin ticket of course.
-
Sgt. Payne in G.I. Joe? So they're not pretending its not a kiddie film? <BR><BR> The influence of G.I. Joe can be unpredictable. When my nephew was less than ten years old he try to talk me into buying a G.I.Joe aircraft carrier. It was ridiculously overpriced and HUGE, almost 6ft long. I told him we'd have to get rid of the couch just to fit the thing in the living room.<BR><BR> He persisted to take the problem apart, analyze and explain how it was all workable. "But, it is a really good dead."<BR><BR> Didn't get the carrier. These days he is married, 2 beautiful daughters. Has a computer job making gobs of money taking problems apart, analyzing, making things work.
-
...everyone realises that Jackson ISN'T the new Spielberg/Zemeckis/Lucas/Messiah. Of course, I'd have thought that anyone who sat through King Kong would have caught on to THAT. (BTW, lovers, I do think that Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners, and The Fellowship are wonderful films, so don't call me a hater.)
-
he has a nano mask.. which I hope means he has a chunky skull face and eccleston is the mask, but he probably just wears a fluid mask.

I wanna see THE LOVELY BONES the most from that list
by unionJACKass.webs.com
It's such a great book. After THE LOVELY BONES, I wanna see WATCHMEN, then STAR TREK, then GI JOE.
-
Stretched out to three hours. Even taking that into consideration it was still better than most stuff released that year. <P> He's no Speilberg (who is?), but he's better than Zemeckis, equal to Cameron, and so far ahead of Lucas as both a writer and director it's almost cruel. Lucas is a producer, nothing more. He couldn't even make the best film in his own franchise.
-
Sienna's tits.
-
Having Nimoy is fine, but Spock is only one half of the equation; The Shat IS Trek. JJ..so far I've disliked everything you have done....and your recent comments about this Trek movie do not give me much hope this will change.
-
If Lovely Bones is even close to as good as Heavenly Creatures (or day I say it BETTER) then we may be looking at one of the best of all time.
-
...and that somehow the shat has/will film a top secretive cameo that only him, jj, and maybe some key personnel will know about. That way once he's seen in the theaters it'll be a welcome surprise.
-
I love you but I think you've been smoking the wacky tobacky if you really believe that.
-
The day this premieres will mark teh Second Coming!!! This is the film Trek fans have been clamoring for!
-
No. AVATAR and James Cameron will be the true second coming, NOT the director of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 making a prequel movie to a (nearly) 50-year-old tv show. <p> I do wanna see it, but you got to put things into perspective.
-
sucks
-
they must have really tight Depends or something.
-
for the love of God, please...Kirk is dead...(despite Shatners revisionism)...move on...I sure as shit Hope that this film works...Although I'd have MUCH rather have seen a whole new Trek- if not Excelsior (should have done that in 1991 after Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)- than do the Enterprise C and set it between StarTrek and StarTrek:TNG
-
I was dragged to see an indy film a couple of weeks ago (Bottle Schock) - the movie was pretty good, and I found out later that the star was Chris Pine (a.k.a. Kirk). He was really good...I am pretty optimistic now.
-
paints him out to be. WOTW sucked harry ass crack. Some cool moments shrouded in Tom Cruise ego, me, me, I, I, bullshit. And David Koepp's writing is beyond gay. Good going, why not just take a dump on Wells' grave while you're at it.
-
I've been feeling that same way too for awhile. But I have a feeling its just us being overly hopefull.
-
Does anybody wonder how come some people get jobs in Hollywood?? Sommers, Ratner, Uwe Balls and the Anderson that sucks? How did these people got to direct movies in the first place? They shouldn't even be on YouTube!
-
Must. See. This now!!! <grabs lube>
-
I hope J.J. Abrams gets it right, and reminds us why many of us liked seeing the Kirk crew in the movies. The one thing I always respected abouy Star Trek II, is how they refocused, and rebuilt the franchise. Think about how the themes of the movie worked so perfectly. Kirk was a respected leader, but Saavik had never seen him in action, so she questioned how good he really was. Kirk had forgotten he was once a young new jack, and couldn't see the value of a "fresh perspective." Spock reminded him that he was once where Saavik was, and both youth AND experience have a place in starfleet. Khan was the black-hat gunfighter calling Kirk out, asking if he still had the balls to take him on! The way they Had Kirk and Spock pulling victories out of their asses is what makes it the best trek movie. The movie explained to the audience WHY they were legends, and how badass they could be when they get in the trenches! "Days instead of hours, hours instead of days." "Like a poor marksmen you keep missing the target.". "Khan, I'm laughing at the superior intellilect!" It's what makes Kirk different than Picard in the Trek movies. In Star Trek III, Kirk stole the Enterprise and gave a big "fuck you" to starfleet. I know a lot of folks hate ST III, but Kirk was still pulling victories out his ass! My favorite scene was when he falls down and misses his chair, after his son is killed. He is absolutely devastated, and yet, even as he agrees to surrender, he is STILL on his game. "Mr. Sulu, what is the crew compliment of a Klingon bird of prey" and "I promise you gentlemen, this is NOT over!" I LIKED TNG, but I never felt like Picard was written as a guy that had to think on his feet...and win. As a matter of fact, some of the TNG movies felt like they were trying so damn hard to make Picard in to a badass, lol! "Oooh, I'm wearing my leather jacket down to the planet's surface, I am such a fucking rebel right now!" A movie is about investing in the characters and making the audience believe in them. You believed that Kirk should be considered the best, because they showed you WHY his enemies shouldn't fuck with him!

Jackson better than Zemeckis and equal to Cameron?
by IAmJack'sUserID
What the fuck kinda mushrooms, cocaine, pills, and beer are you smoking/snorting/injecting? The guy has made 3 overrated and overlong LOTR movies and 1 overrated and overlong King Kong movie. The latter was wholly unnecessary and a step-down from the 30's version in all respects except crap overindulgent CGI. <p></p> Zemeckis has BTTF, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, and Castaway all of which are better than any Jackson movie any day of the week. As far as being "equal" to Cameron, I don't have the words to illustrate your levels of profound wrongness.
-
i love that you use the word overrated in your post. Seeing as you are named after what is quite possibly the most overrated film of all time its funny to me. But it always amazes me how many people claim to not like the LOTR films yet seem to have sat through them all. surely after the first film you would say "no need to sit through a further 6 hours of that" but no. you sat through all 9 hours of it. Just seems rather silly to me.
-
Back to the Future is adequate- maybe a bit above- but they shouldnt even be on the same list with LOTR not even close
-
Errm Girl gets raped. Girl gets murdered. Then 6 chapters stolen straight from What Dreams may come and then a lot of hokey sunset beach style bollocks. Also shit ending.<p> If it showed all that then bravo, it saved you $9 and 2 hours of your life.
-
Where to begin? So you actually point out my use of the word 'overrated' and then go on to call Fight Club the same? Yeah, ok. And I guess it is silly to actually see all the movies and pass judgment on them as opposed to seeing only one or two of them, right? Yeah, you're on one sensible streak here in the talkbacks, aren't you? If I had only seen the first two and then passed judgment on the whole trilogy people like you would be whining that I should see all of them. <p></p> J2talk, the first BTTF is more enjoyable, original, and plain better-made than all of the LOTR movies put together. You're obviously very young and/or someone who really doesn't watch movies a lot to say something like BTTF is "adequate". BTTF is part of movie culture whereas the LOTR movies were merely flashes in the pan of cinema. Yeah, they were drooled over at the time and made a lot of money, but I don't hear much talk about them now. People were wowed by the CGI and scope, but it seems after that there isn't much substance in the movies. Not to say I hate them, but the first one was only decent. The second one nearly bored me to tears, and the third one almost did the same with it's 53 endings. I did love the score however. I'm as big a geek as they come in terms of film, but the LOTR movies simply failed on just about all aspects to impress or even entertain me.
-
...If Shatner's not in it. And that's final.
-
Shee-yit...everybody knows he's a chrome-plated brotha: tinyurl.com/22gdh2
-
I've read the comics. Yes I know how sad that is.
-
hes bashing gi joe for character development after watching about 5 min worth of scenes? yeah. makes sense.
-
There is indeed a place on this site that displays all the animation gifs. Sadly though, they aren't labeled with what movie they're each from.
-
will be a disappointment.
-
I think will be great for the comic book crowd. Anyone who has read the graphic novel will have their jaws on the floor for the duration of the movie (much like I did when I first saw the trailer on the big screen and then again in Imax) and everyone else will go "meh".
-
mess up the characters and you got squat.
-
started interesting...by the end i was thoroughly disappointed. overrated melodrama. hopefully jackson should be able to help.
-
Watchmen is about subtlety, depth and character...NOT eye candy. i fear the wrong man is at the helm.
-
sad that you read the mainstream comic line of the 80s?
-
you sure showed me. Personally I have better things to do then to sit through over 9 hours of films I don't like but fair enough. and I know what you mean about Back to the future. that is all anyone talks about these days. Its all the rage on the streets in the bars..everywhere I go Back to the future this...back to the future that. please.
-
Well, duh. Everybody knew DeForest Kelley was the best looking.<p> (This story almost fell off the screen, so expect to see that joke again...;-D )
-
revolutionary road (what the fuck is "redemption road") i.e. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, directed by Sam Mendes, but there's no mention of the footage seen of that... and i swear they even made a mistake on their own name - "icaddyforjohnnydrama", you sure that's not supposed to be icandy? Or are you a saying you're a mac application for a character from Entourage?
