A brief look at the Will Smith/Whitney Houston project called ANYTHING FOR YOU...

Published at:  Jun 20, 1999 3:00:16 AM CDT

Hey, Alright! I'd like to see Will make this movie. It'd throw a little non-action into the mix. I'm a romantic comedy sucker from way way waaaaay way back, and ya know... I think they'd make a great on-screen pairing. What do you folks think?

I just read a script Whitney Houston and Wil Smith are attatched too, called
'Anything for You'. The script is in rewrites right now. It's a romantic
comedy about a man who is trying to win back his old girlfriend. Her friends
come up with several 'quests' for him to complete to win her back, and while
he is completing those tasks, she is given a great job in Paris. In the end,
they must decide between giving their relationship one more shot or leaving
each other for good.

It's a cute, sappy romantic comedy, and I could see Wil Smith adding to his
female following. Just thought I'd let you know, if you didn't know about
this project already.

    Houston We Have A Problem

    by g0thell0

If Hollywood must bore us with yet another love story, the least they can do is make it believable. Don't get me wrong. I understand Will Smith is big right now and everything. But Whitney Houston??? C'mon! If she left, who in the hell would want her back? Her husband Bobby Brown, rather, has been trying to unload her for years now. Instead of her, Hollywood should go for someone actually desirable...like Mariah Carey or Jennifer Lopez...grrrlll

  • Whitney replaced Jada Pinkett. It used to be that films with a black lead depended on white audiences to make it a hit, but things changed when Waiting to Exhale was released. I would rather look at Whitney for 90 minutes than Julia Roberts. And how could you hate Bobby Brown? I know you guys had Don't Be Cruel.

I'm not a huge Will Smith fan, but I'm even less enamored of Whitney and her incessant music. The wman has the most soulless singing voice this side of MIchael Bolton(Percy Sledge should kick your ass, cracker!) and her acting is only marginally better. *sigh* I guess I shouldn't hit so hard with only a negative opinion. I truly hope this film does well for the both of them, even if the mere thought of it makes me want to bazooka barf.

What about the movie Power and Grace?

    by spifman

I heard a few months ago that Will Smith was going to do the Muhammad Ali biopic. It was slated to start shooting sometime in 1999. Anyone have some info on this one? I would sure love to see this movie made. It would be a much better movie then a romatic comedy with Whitney Houston. I did hear that someone in Ali's family didn't want the movie to be made, but..who knows. Please e-mail me at e23@e23.net if you have any info about the Will Smith project Power and Grace.

Hey spike, where did "I'd rather look at Whitney Houston than Julia Roberts for 90 minutes" come from? That statement was kinda like a shark in a swimmimg pool. The difference between the two is that Julia has some semblance of acting talent whereas Houston has about less than none. But when it comes to singing, Julia's no daisy. Just was curious as to why you said that...

The whole of this project sounds perfectly awful. I am a fan of neither Smith's nor Houston's music (Used to like Smith with DJ Jazzy Jeff, but that was because they were funny...). However, both have credible movie presence. I give them that much. But throwing them together in another contrived, hackneyed romantic comedy formula is a mistake. What Smith needs is a chance to prove himself beyond slapstick and heroics. He can do that. He was in Six Degrees Of Separation and Where The Day Takes You. Whitney needs a vehicle that will not exploit her, and by that I mean the character nor the movie is reliant on her providing a song to boost soundtrack sales. Also, no one wants to see her in another stereotypical, insulting and soon-to-be very dated "You go, Girlfriend", head wagging, attitude brandishing, sitcom "diva" role. She could probably surprise everyone if only she had a real part to play. (Useless factoid: Whitney's first acting role was on the Nell Carter sitcom, 'Gimme A Break'. It's true.) Would someone in Hollywood please stop pushing rom-coms on us and give us some MEAT?! Let's see Whitney and Will in a remake of Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf!! I'd die! (tee hee)

  • Smith has no talent,I hate his rap songs attached to every film hes in.Houston sucks really bad too. Enough of the stupid romantic comedies, there are way too many already. It sounds like something we`ve see before,i`d rather see a big screen adaptation of the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" It always bothered me how everyone teenager in that show had a full moustache, shave Will, shave. Rosie O`donelle is a huge hypocrite, go blame others for gun control problems, then collect your big cheque from "K-Mart".

I can see the sappy, annoying pop/love duett song already

    by paragonian

Sounds like a good movie to me though. They're both very likable actors and incredibly talented. Will Smith CAN'T sing though and Witney Houston's stuff has been sagging but she'll come back. This soundtrack's probably gonna make a shitload of money no matter what. I just don't want to constantly hear that soon to be duett on the radio all the time like the Titanic song was.
