ScoreKeeper With The Results Of THE DARK KNIGHT Score CD Contest!!

Published at:  Sep 02, 2008 8:28:27 AM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here toting the results of THE DARK KNIGHT (2008)
soundtrack CD giveaway.

If you remember, the rules of the drawing stated
that if anybody had similarly selected each of my favorite scores by Hans
Zimmer and James Newton Howard then they would bypass the drawing and
automatically get a CD.

I had one matching entry.

Everyone else entered the drawing where four names were randomly selected to
receive a copy of THE DARK KNIGHT soundtrack CD.

First, the four names from the drawing…

Benjamin Schapiro – Philadelphia, PA

Christopher Martin – Cambridge, Ontario

Jon Wolf – Atlanta, GA

Jose R. Gonzalez III – Long Beach, CA

Finally, the single entry I received which matched my two favorites…

Aaron Shact – Los Angeles, CA

And our two favorite scores?

GLADIATOR (2000) by Hans Zimmer

and

DAVE (1993) by James Newton Howard

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who entered. I’m
going to have more contests and giveaways soon.

The next one, featuring my
second favorite score of the year (so far), will go up later this week.

I have written a screenplay and I'm looking for an agent. My script has been read by one of the biggest celebrities in the world, who loved it and gave me feedback in a form of a letter.

    God I hate Zimmer

    by mr gorilla

I know I've been bitching a lot recently, but I just hate Zimmer. It's all bangs and crashes, and when he steals from classical composers, it's never done as elegantly as when, say, John Williams does it. Most of all, I don't think he ever serves the film properly. He just does the 'Zimmer' thing. I have recently been admiring the scores of Alan Silvestri: I love that he absolutely responds to each film, be it the madcap register in Back to the Future, the simplicity / dignity in Contact and Cast Away, or the genuine rollicking epic stuff in Beowulf. To me, that is such a more impressive body of work. And those are just his Zemeckis collaborations.

    It Will Not Beat Titanic

    by invictus005

TDK just crawled passed 500 million, it need to pass 900 million to beat Titanic, there's just absolutely no chance! It pretty much needs to double what it made so far and that ain't happening!

I guess it wasn't exactly as memorable as the score for say, The Empire Strikes Back or Porky's 2.

Actually Titanic doesnt hold a record

    by invictus005

That belongs to Gone With the Wind, which made 1.4 billion domestic followed by A New Hope with 1.2 billion. Titanic is #6, this is an excellent source for information:

I love movie scores, and so does my wife!

    by amy chasing

Listen to Zimmer's Lion King, Crimson Tide, Beyond Rangoon, Rain Man, Black Hawk Down, Thin Red Line, Hannibal, Power Of One... the man has done some great work. Pity that it's forgotten when you hear that Media Ventures sound(TM) in everything these days - and usually it's not even him. Do we blame him for the continued uninspired use of those sample banks? Sometimes I do in the way I'm sure people will be cursing Bill Gates for years to come.

Newton Howard's scores for anything Shyamalan (although I didn't pay much attention to The Happening's score cause the movie was distracting by trying to be anything other than a bad joke) and Snow Falling On Ceders is lovely.

I am here because I love movies, but to listen to an actual movie score outside of the context of the film is kind of sad, unless you are actually a musician and are perhaps studying music. I personally think two of the best film scores ever are Jaws and The Sting, but I would never listen to them in my car or at home unless I was watching those particular films. People wanna disagree with me, then fine, I get a lot of that on this site, especially since I think Obama is a tool.
