Til Schweiger Is The Maniac Hugo Stiglitz In Tarantino’s BASTARDS??
I am – Hercules!!
German-born Til Shweiger ("Driven," "Lara Croft II") will play either bloodthirsty maniac Hugo Stiglitz, the German-born member of Lt. Aldo Raine's American squad of angry, vengeful Nazi-killing Jews, or Wilhelm Wicki, an Austrian-born American Jew that Raine has taken into the the same squad.
Both are characters in Quentin Tarantino's World War II epic "Inglorious Bastards," which starts shooting in Germany next month.
Also aboard the project is Daniel Brühl ("The Bourne Ultimatum"), 30-year-old Spanish-born son of German director Hanno Brühl. Brühl may be playing the wily Gestapo major Dieter Hellstrom, or perhaps Nazi sniper-hero Frederick Zoller, or perhaps the German-speaking member of Raine's crew not played by Schweiger.
The cast so far:
Brad Pitt: Redneck Bastards leader Lt. Aldo "The Apache" Raine
Christoph Waltz: Col. Hans "The Jew Hunter" Landa
Michael Fassbender: British officer Archie Hicox
Diane Kruger: German movie star Bridget Von Hammersmark
Eli Roth: Bat-toting Bastard Sgt. Donnie "The Bear Jew" Donowitz
Mike Myers: British General Ed Fenech
B.J. Novak: Bastard Private Utivich?
Samm Levine: Bastard Private Hirschberg?
?: African-Frenchman Projectionist Marcel
?: Jewish heroine Shoshanna Dreyfus
(The press has had Novak as Utivich, but Levine is a much closer match for Utivich physically, so I'm thinking someone might have gotten some wires crossed.)

report: tarantino considering directing script by tarantino
by illegaltouching
enough casting news about a script no one but the editors of this site have read.
-
I have no idea what this article is about. I get QT is making IB but come on.
-
Are there going to be minute by minute updates when this shitfest actually starts filming? Jesus, do we need an article on every single casting choice? Wake me up when they cast "Girl in Crowd #37".
-
What is she, this movie's Stuntman Mike?!?! Saving that cast bit for last?!?! Why aren't there any speculative actresses on the most important role in the whole damn movie?!?! Why hasn't ANYTHING leaked? I've heard about Schweiger and Bruhl floatin around rumors for weeks! Somebody throw me a Shoshanna bone!!!
-
Only the editors? Dude, this is the internet. You barely have to make an effort to read this thing.
-
On her WebTv. Also, she read this casting news a week ago on CHUD.
-
so even with Schweiger as a sidekick this should still be 3 hours of WW2 fun. I love long war movies. sorry for snapping at you Ashok0 as your comment seems directed at Til and Boll. It would be funny if Tarantino put Boll in as a Nazi and killed him in the movie, especially if it was some over the top INDY style death. LHombreSiniestro the article said Diane Kruger is Bridget Von Hammersmark so that is one chicka for you.
-
This cast is a let down to the over the years rumored cast!
-
How about confirming the roles before announcing the news? Speculation is not news.
-
I agree ABking. Given all of the hype surrounding this project over the past few years, Brad Pitt, Mike Myers and a boatload of lesser-knowns seems awfully anti-climactic. I'm sure the film will be entertaining, however losing the original rumored cast kills half of the fun.
-
We found out Friday.
-
I was looking forward to this with those guys mentioned. Now.....not so much.
-
Not all of us read the script review and we don't know and don't want to know who the characters are until we see the film. Please stop!!!
-
You know, when I first started hearing about this film in the works years ago i became really excited and all of the casting possibilities. Then one by one all of the big name stars announced that they were unavailable due to Quentin's tight filming schedule. At first I was disappointed by the loss of Leonardo DeCaprio, Adam Sandler and Simon Pegg, but know with all of the confirmation of these lesser known actors I am excited all over again. Maybe this is exactly what this film needs-some new faces rather than the distraction of big stars. I'd still love to see Mike Myers play Hitler though.

What were you expecting? Stallone and Schwarzenegger? It´s not the 80´s anymore, they could make a remake of "the odd couple" but that´s it. And even if I´m not into the hype around Tarantino´s projects, you have to give him credit for giving Hollywood´s underdogs and B-Movie actors cool roles and let them shine in them. Who cared about John Travolta and Sam L. Jackson before "Pulp Fiction"?
-
I can recognize a lot of supporting, trivial actors and even I had to look this one up to see who the hell he is. <p>So unimportant, even his name misspelled in the body of the article (correct spelling in headline) goes unnoticed. <p>Coverage of this movie is bordering on overkill. Let's get one more article when the lead girl Shoshanna is cast, but I think we can skip headlining Marcel, a few more minor Germans, Shoshanna's family, the key grip, and the caterer.<p>Please.
-
At last, a decent actor!
-
Tarantino is utterly stuck in a vanity-project rut...Anyone else see the pattern here? Tall blonde gets revenge, bunch of yakky broads in a car get revenge, bunch of gun-toting Jews get revenge?<p> Next to going Full Retard for an Oscar, revenge flicks are about the laziest form of film making imaginable...
-
This movie is sounding lamer and lamer with each passing day. Where is Sly and Ahnult? Too much focus on the Jewish aspect, anyone else bored of this already? As Borat would say, "It is time to throw the Jews down the well"

I find it funny that Herc's been assinded to all the updates
by GQtaste
when normally it would be Harry or Mori doing something w/ QT. I assume they don't want to come out and look like total asskissers that said director can do no wrong. It's better to not say anything at all then have to take up for this complete and total letdown so far w/ the exception of Pitt. But guys ask yourselves why isn't Harry or Mori doing the updates and why haven't' they commented on this presently. Because they sure had a lot to say about it for the last four or so years ago and since anything QT does in their reviews is brilliant I can't wait to see them take up for this monstrosity in the making. Look it, the dude has changed so many times on what he intended to do w/ this film and w/ such a short window to get it down doesn't bode well for what I want to see out of this project. I dont' want to see a revenge film thats supposed to compare w/ Diry Dozen or whatever the fuck else '70's film he's coping to some degree to be 80% talking and referencing '30's current bullshit back then, ala, germen films, etc. I saw in a different talkback where someone stated that the Cohen Bro's have QT'ed QT w/ No Country.... And I couldn't have agreed more. This guy gets too much acclaim when you have other directors out there presently: PTA, Fincher, Spike Jonez, Wes Anderson, Alexander Payne, hell even David O. Russell, Gore Verbinski and Soderbergh have proven to take more seriously and now of course you have to put into the category Chris Nolan. These guys are his peers to most respects. Started out sometime in the nineties and have kept the train rolling through the 2000's w/o missing a beat for the most part. But w/ this staff who gets the highest praise? QT, Rodriguez, Del Toro, Peter Jackson and recently everything Jude Apatow has a hand in. And I don't think it's a coincidence that staff on here get treated very well by the last group of folks I mentioned. Of course they couldn't be bribed by going to the set of Jackson's King Kong or QT and Rod's GRindhouse in Austin. Or Apatow's generous open door to whatever staff on here would like. Naw, that couldn't sway these guys.

I've never understood why someone would get mad that there's an article on AICN about something they don't care about.<p>if you don't care, why click on it and read it? and why bitch? I don't care about anime, so guess what I do? I SKIP THE FUCKING POSTS ABOUT ANIME.<p>you self-involved fucking assholes need to drop your sense of entitlement and try as hard as you can to not be mind-bending jerks. if you don't care, then DON'T READ IT! fucking pathetic fucking idiots. jesus christ, you're like whiney elderly people at a Denny's who go out to eat in hopes of finding 10 little things they can nitpick and complain about. except your 17 instead of 77, so you have no excuse. <p>even though it's part and parcel now, the AICN talkbacks didn't used to be full of sniveling jerks like you guys. I've been here for the whole ride, kiddos, and let me tell you, AICN is not going downhill...only the quality of the readership is...

sorry...I was in mad mode

Schweiger must be the happiest man on earth right now!
by DerLanghaarige
He is such a Tarantino fanboy! He went on Talkshows and said quotes from Pulp Fiction! He named his production company "Mr. Brown Entertainment".He even made "Der Eisbär", probably one of the most shameless (but very entertaining) Tarantino-rip offs EVER!
-
Sept. 2, 2008, 4:24 a.m. CST
And man, will this movie be heavily advertised in Germany!
by DerLanghaarige
Yes, it's some kind of Nazi-ploiation, so there will definitely be some controversy around it, but from NOW till it hits the screens, you will hear at least three times every day one very German TV-channel: "Blabla new Tarantino, blabla Til Schweiger, blabla, Diane Krüger bla, Daniel Brühl blablabla Christoph Waltz bla Brad Pitt!"
-
you are so absolutely right!! i will never understand persons which take the time to write a rant about an article they do not care about. that is a contradiction.
-
So when Myers appears and does either his appalling Shrek "scots" accent or his bizarre, mid-atlantic Austin Powers accent we're NOT meant to be pulled out of the movie and start laughing at it.... right?
-
really. this is starting to be as bad as all those casting posts about BATMAN BEGINS.
-
all of them, and I wasn´t THAT impressed at all. It was nice, but come on, Sly´s age showed. Hell, he had to stand on that fucking machine gun for quarter an hour just not to fall over and break his hip. Serious, Stallone and Arnie are too old and too big for an ensemble-film like this!
-
to see Arnie with an austrian accent playing a jew doing steroids in the 1940´s. :-)
-
...unless you didn't spot, and no one else wrote it here (didnt look at talkback) Ed Fenech, is clearly a reference to Giallo actress Edwige Fenech....who was much better-looking than Ratboy Myers.....
-

the lack of tim roth and simon pegg bodes well. it's certainly an improvement on the casts of death proof and kill bill (kill bill cast wasn't too bad, but uma and caradine were just awful)
-
Nasti Kinski is too old, or what? This is terrible news! Diane Krüger may be younger, but she is untalented beyond belief. Nasti has more acting quality in her little toe than Krüger will show in her whole lifetime. Get rid of that bimbo. *Yeeeech*
-
..he said in a talkshow that he is bitter about the fact he wanted to get out of a contract way back..he turned down an "agent" role in the first matrix..even walked away at the first day of shooting..because after that..the doors in hollywood slammed into his face. Well...he played a driver in "driven" but ..ah well. Where are the airbender news ? Is Mknight still doin it ?

And maybe Dolph Lundgren too. In fact, maybe I'll just watch Rocky IV.
-
i love kill bill 1 and i love most of kill bill 2. but uma was particularly weak, she seemed to be doing a bad clint eastwood impersonation with a sword. And the last twenty minutes did not work for me. i know he was playing around with conventions, and i admire him for that, but it did not work for me. the superman dialogue was sub par, it was like he was compensating for all the people bitching about the lack of tarantino dialogue in the first kill bill. i was shocked by how much i did not like death proof, aesthetically it was great but the characters, dialogue, plot, acting were all awful. this bastards better be worth the wait

I meant to say.

but I get Brad Pitt in another ensemble piece with good people speaking Tarantino...You guys watch, Mike Meyers will redeem himself. This will be good.
-
...but a mediocre actor. Check out his movie "Keinohrhasen". Anyway, this must be a dream come true for him. He is a QT Fan. But who in QTs age is not?
-
Every goddamn time somebody sneezes in association with this movie, this web site gets giddy as fuck. Stop with the Inglorious Bastards bullshit. When the movie comes out, review it.<p>And the script is still dogshit.
-
Diane Kruger. http://tinyurl.com/6auo8g
-
... because it is pure geekdom. Laserhead, why do you read this news, if you are really bored by it? Go away and that's it. Not smart enough to do it, eh?
-
are you named after captain future's friend? one of the best shows of my childhood. captain future should be a movie!
-
He deserved an Oscar for that performance...
-
I don´t see any irony in the fact that Schweiger declined to play a Nazi. He just don´t wanted to be typecasted. Now he´s playing one of the good guys after all. An big improvement in my humble opinion.
-
Man, how can you hate a Director who names one of the movie characters after good ole' Hugo S. Hell, I had never heard of Till Schweiger, but Hugo Stiglitz, haha, now him I know ! Please all you self proclaimed movie geeks and fans, go Netflix some of Mr. Stiglitz's masterpieces like Tintorera, Cyclone, Guyana and Nightmare City. That guy would eat Stallone, Willis and Schwarzenegger for breakfast I tell ya ! Stiglitz, hell yeah ! (Haha !).
-
He needs to reunite with Christopher Walken for a super uber classic scene.
-
Yes, my nick is taken from Captain Future. And I agree, it should be a movie. (Maybe an idea for Michael Herbig after "Wickie" - the space scenes from "(T)raumschiff Surprise" were pretty good technically.)
-
Preferably for a musical number.
-
I agree with others that it seems very odd for him to be cast as a brit for what is essentially a one-scene cameo. And it isn't a great scene at that (like Walken's in Pulp, for example.)<p> I wouldn't be surprised if it's a ruse, and he's really playing Winston Churchill, who's in the same scene.
-
Don't you think commenting to bitch about others comments is worse than people commenting to bitch about an article??? <p>Why don't you take your own advice, not read the bitching comments, and SHUT THE FUCK UP...fucking hypocrite.
-
Terrible, terrible actor. As soon as I see him in a movie, it's ruined for me. God bless you, Til Schweiger. I cannot stand you but God bless you.
