Has The VOLTRON Movie Already Found A Director??

The ever-humbling El Mayimbe over at Latino Review has the scoop regarding who looks to be directing the forever-in-development VOLTRON movie.
The guy's name is Max Makowski. Seems he made a splash with a movie called ONE LAST DANCE...
...which can be purchased HERE (be sure you have the right equipment to play it).
Makowski's name has also been mentioned in reference to the movie adaptation of KUNG FU. IMDB lists him as having directed unspecified episodes of QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY as well.

That Cloverfield 2 starts with the monster living after the blast. Then, as a military chopper comes closer out of the murky sky comes a flash of light, and the monster is split in twain. Then as the fog / smoke clears, there stands Voltron. Hell, mix in Lost, make that island the home of the 5 lions. The DHARMA initiative was workign on them or some crap like that < Hurley=hunk, Jack = Keith, Sawyer = Lance... heh. back to work.

Hopefully the filmmakers won't make the same mistake the Wachowski's did with SPEED RACER. I loved the movie, but they should have made it more like SIN CITY -- as in, relatively cheap, but still cool looking cgi -- and cut its length down to about 90 minutes tops. If they keep it on the cheap, it should do well. If they go for mega-blockbuster, they're gonna eat their shorts and cry to the poorhouse hats in hands.

I can see a Robotech movie, hell that series has been around for decades. I MIGHT even see a G-Force or Voltes 5 movie being done for the Asian market,those were HUGE there, and I could see Transformers being done as there was a continuation of the story in comic form and a rabid fanbase. But, who the fuck CARES about Voltron? Or Thundercats? Or She-Ra, or any one of dozens of crapped out 1980's Sat morning cartoons?!? Whats next...a dark, edgy, and modernized Smurfs saga?

Finding a copy of this film is tough but it's got a sort of Get Shorty without the cutie crap and much harder edge. Francis Ng (The Hong Kong Pacino only better because he can also whup ass) plays the fucking slickest dapper hitman of all time. Because it was filmed in Singapore with Hong Kong actors and a western director coming across a copy was a real pain in the ass but HKflix came thru. Forget fucking the Queer Eye homo flaming shit. This guy CAN direct and the way he moves a camera is totally original and intense almost like the camera is a weapon itself. YOu buttheads have got to see One Last Dance. Grab a copy on the bay or at HKflix. It is really all that and a scile of poon!!! We gotta get Francis NG in some american productions the guy makes Chow Yun Fat look like a puss!!! FRACIS NG FUCKERS FRANCIS NG!!!!!!!

Voltron fucking rules! I loved that show when I was a kid. Ran in late 1984 to late 1985. Much cooler than the ripoff that is Power Rangers. I remember Cartoon Network started showing it again during my freshman year of college. For a while, I was religiously in front of my TV for this one.

Still...there is NO NEED for fuckin Voltron, even in Japan is was a late comer and an also ran behind toons like Voltes 5. -
Seriously though, Voltron is completely unrealistic. If I had mouths at the ends of my hands, I would barely find time to leave the house for groceries, let alone saving the universe.

...they need to wait for the CGI technology to get better before they try making this film (same was true with Transformers & Hulk in my opinion). It's kind of like James Cameron's proposed version of a live action Spiderman back in the early Nineties; it was a great idea, but there was no way at the time to make Spidey look cool (or even believabled) in the red and blue spandex slinging across Manhatten. Let the CGI catch up with the concept, please. Jumping the gun on things like this is why we're seeing all of these remakes now-a-days since the "technology is nows in place" to do these films justice.

"The Lepidopterists" episode from Season 3 of Venture Brothers. I believe it was episode 10. The music was perfect. And I love how it segued into a random "Wrath of Khan"-esque scenario.

From what I understand the writer of Voltron is quite good and should be getting more work.
But that said I think the studio choosing to go with green screen (i.e. Speed Racer which FLOPPED) and this unknown director (nothing wrong with that in theory except that his film looks like crap - that stuff with keitel was terrible). I mean the guy started doing queer eye for the straight guy. This smells a whole lot like John McCain's VP pick. -
This thing sounds like its goin down suck street. But I'll hope like a DC title, Voltron will get its due in another reboot with Christian Bale. PS Palin could kick Chuck Norris' @$$

Hey, I liked Voltron when I was 10. But, wasn't the only appeal of Voltron the concept of having 5 toys that combined into one? I mean, seriously... 5 giant robot lions that can FLY? Why lions? Shouldn't they be birds, or something? And if forming Voltron was always the ultimate way to defeat the baddies, why didn't they just fucking START OUT THAT WAY? FUCKING FLYING LIONS, PEOPLE. There REALLY doesn't need to be a movie made of this. Your fading memories are far better than any film could ever be. Stick with them.

Very good point, octo. But it begs the question: why tweak a silly, vacant property into a good sci-fi movie instead of just coming up with something original? If you're going to spend that much time fitting a square peg into a circular hole, why not just make something new? It would take the same (if not less) effort, and could potentially expand the genre instead of keeping it stuck in the retarded nostalgic quagmire that is "modern" sci-fi.
