A CNN Clip Gives Us Brolin As "W."

Published at:  Aug 29, 2008 8:51:46 AM CDT

Merrick here...

CNN has posted (and thoughtfully provided an accompanying embed for) a clip from Oliver Stone's "W. "

I know we've seen some behind-the-scenes stuff of Josh Brolin as "W", as well as some traielr material, but I believe (with a margin for error) this is our first substantive look at Brolin as Mis-ter Pres-i-dent.

I can't say enough bad things about our current President, but did anyone see him interviewed from the Beijing Olympics? I thought he did pretty well. If that was the "W" we'd gotten for the last two terms, perhaps things might have gone better. Or, maybe not.

Here's the embed, which originates from THIS posting. NOTE: the image window is bigger when viewed through the URL.

Tanks to Darius for calling this to our attention.

These six simple ingredients helped bring us the WORST President in US history, and one of the top ten worst world leaders in human history itself -- George "Monkey-HItler" DUBYA Bush.
This movie will suck, but it will be totally fucking hilariously bad, and therefore entertaining as an unintentional comedy on par with Showgirls. BUT, the real entertainment is going to come from the ultra-right-wing psychotics of the screaming head neo-con propagandist punditocracy. FOX News is literally going to be the FUNNIEST FUCKING THING IN THE WORLD when this movie comes out, and even funnier when Obama takes the White House. Gonna be a HILARIOUS next couple of months.

Overrated or now, O. Stone is getting my attention with W. I may not plunk down full price for this one, but a matinee is not out of the question. And Banks is worth viewing in WHATEVER she does. She's reading from the Phoenix yellow pages? SHIT YEAH, I am THERE!

Yeehaw Stone will make end up making a hero out of this collosal jackass by giving him a reformed bad boy image when he's really just a pathetic, chimp-faced punk of privilege. This is gonna suck as bad as the last 7 years so i guess in that way Stone is accurate.

    Stone and bios

    by jonah_lamu

I think Stones has given us some very passionate and emotional biographies like The Doors, Born on the 4th of July and Nixon. His politics usually overshadow his film making which I always find interesting. I was one of the few people who liked Alexander. This movie should be really good. We'll start pitying W as well as hating his guts.

    by ultron ver 2.0

It's a transparent move to grab the disgruntled Hillary voters, but a pro-life ex-beauty queen isn't what the Hillary camp is looking for. Palin's lack of experience cancels out the argument of Obama's experience, especially when you consider McCains health/age. Ballsy move, but John shoulda grabbed Condi Rice as vp.

    Empathy for Bush?

    by darth macchio

Why not? Taken out of his current context, he's probably a decent enough guy. Probably a nice guy, I'm sure. Maybe somewhat snobby coming from his background like most of us would be to any given extent (altho using someone else's sweater to clean his glasses has got to be asshole any way you slice it)...but my guess is he's just a normal American asshole; not some evil robot or anti-christ or any other chicken-little-we're-doomed bullshit. Basically a completely normal American for the most part. If this portrayal attempts to be true to that reality (if it is reality) then I'm glad because regardless of the history of this administration, these are real people who actually believe they're right and doing the right thing for their version of America. They may be wrong depending on your viewpoint, shit, they may be criminals depending on your viewpoint...but that IS the point. If this is about history it should be objective but it's not, it's about Bush, and, as such, should paint the most accurate portrayal of the man. Anything less would be eaten alive in seconds by either side of the partisan divide ya know?

Dubya rocked the Olympics. It was so weird, because I'm not a huge fan of the guy - but I was actually proud to see him there - reppin' the hell out of our country.

I guess when you line him up with the leaders of other countries, you see that we could surely be worse off. That still doesn't mean we don't deserve much better as a nation. But maybe it helps you sleep easier at night? XD

    by ganymede3010

McCain had to do something to steal the headlines from last nights speech. That speech was watched by more Americans then the Olympic opening ceremony. Obama's acceptance speech was an unrivaled spectacle of epic proportions. I feel sorry for whom ever is responsible for writing McCain's speech for the RNC. The bar has been set to astronomical heights!

Just like all of the Iraq War movies. We don't want to be reminded of it when we go to the movies because we see it every damn day on TV. We go to the movies to escape. A W comedy will be hilarious, in 3 or 4 years, now it's just tedious.

    During the next two months...

    by half-baked-goggle-box-do-gooder

...we'll see just how much McCain really "believes" in Palin, and how much she simply happened to perfectly fit a carefully researched, immediate demographic need; i.e., A) A White Woman, to draw in the pissed-off Hillary contingent; B) An Anti-Abortion Fundamentalist, as a sop to the bible-sucking, I-can-meddle-in-your-life-but-keep-your-nose-out-of-mine contingent; C) An obedient member of the Republican Party/the Oil Industry, one who can be counted on to always go for the short-term, team-player, "pragmatic" move, as opposed to taking a restrained, considered approach - namely throwing Alaska wide open to totally unrestrained and unregulated drilling; D) Somebody ambitious enough to want the VP position, but also politically weak enough that she can be out-maneuvered and over-ridden, someone who will step (or can be pushed) out of the way and let a man step in to take the reins if and when McCain's health goes down the crapper, because the Republicans would rather see Obama running the White House than an "unpredictable" woman.

  • WRONG! Epic Fail old man, EPIC FAIL. Especially since you picked an arch-conservative, anti-choice woman who was the mayor of a town of 6,000 people before becoming a Senator. Its done, John, just go to the retirement home, pop some pain pills, and watch as history is made and Obama becomes the first black man to hold the office of President.
