Pacino And De Niro Are A Long Way From Kate Mantilini In New Clip From RIGHTEOUS KILL...

Published at:  Aug 27, 2008 7:55:17 PM CDT

Beaks here...

The last time Al Pacino and Robert De Niro locked horns on screen, we got this:

Thirteen years later, we're getting this.

While I admire Jon Avnet as a producer (without him, there'd be no RISKY BUSINESS or MEN DON'T LEAVE), everything about RIGHTEOUS KILL (including the screenplay by INSIDE MAN's Russell Gewirtz) seems completely uninspired. I want so very much to be proven wrong, but the movie is coming out on September 12th, and there's been no word of an obligatory press conference or press screenings. This is fine if you're selling DISASTER MOVIE, but troubling when you've got Pacino and De Niro in their first movie together since HEAT.

    by rogueleader66

Is where this fims plot seems to be taken from, hell, I even heard a line in one of the trailers that was lifted right from Magnum Force-"Nothing wrong with shooting as long as the right people get shot" That does not instill a lot of hope in me. DeNiro and Pacino are awesome actors, I just hope the movie doesn't suck

2 of the greatest actors of our lifetime. Reduced to straight to video fare, and becoming parodies of themselves. Oh well, maybe its just us geeks who care anyway. The two of them in a commercial together looks great to most of America, im sure. Fuck De Niro, stop working for a few years, please! Come back stronger than ever, clean slate!

It would make way too much sense for the dynamic duo to finally be in a movie together (HEAT hardly counts, as good as it was) and it end up sucking ass. I'll see it regardless, but I hope you're wrong Beaks.

Is it going to live up to Heat? of course not. You need a tight scipt and a master ala, PTA, Marty, Francis, etc for something like that. I"m holding out hope that it's a decent film. Thats all.

    heat scene vs RK scene

    by huggerorange

i wouldnt rule out the movie or performances based on a 30 sec clip versus an almost 7 min. For one, the righteous kill scene is taken way out of context. Second, Heat had alot of tension built up to that diner scene which was supposed to be a big pay off, the scene had to be great. In righteous kill Deniro and Pacino will be in many scenes together and they arent adversaries (or so it seems)- its a completely different movie. Who knows where the money scenes will be, no one has fucking seen it yet! There will surely be pre screenings the week before its release.

I used to get so excited for movies by these two guys. When I was first discovering 70's cinema as a teenager their performances were like revelations...but now they're like parodies of themselves.

You can't prove a point by saying DeNiro is supposed ot be good in a movie you haven't seen. Besides Stardust, whenever I see him onscreen nowadays it just seems like he's going through the motions. It also doesn't help that I have grown to hate his face.

Very astute observation, the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy thing. Kudos. My personal fear I've had since seeing the poster at a movie theater is that it's just a generic crime drama, starring a couple of guys who're just too damned old to be playing these parts. The trailer actually brought me up to "Okay, I'll go see it", but I'm not going in expecting what SHOULD come from a De Niro/Pachino double-up. At least it's got Brian Dennehy, I suppose.

    Heat has a poor ending?!

    by cat_corporation

Whaaaaa? I love the ending, it haunted me for days afterwards! I'm with you Ace of Wands, that image of De Niro and Pacino grasping hands and that music is one of the most memorable endings of any movie for me. Heat is a fantastic, classy, adult movie. I only hope that this new re-teaming of De Niro and Pacino makes me watch their interplay in Heat in a different way...

I disagree about the ending to HEAT, fat fatties.

    by dr sauch

It was perfect. Was it a gunfight? No. Did One of the principals realize he was a ghost the whole time? No. Did both characters realize that they are very much alike, and that human suffering is universal, no matter what side of the law you're on, and further, that in our final minutes, we are able to see the invisible fabric that binds all humans to each other? Yes. Sorry it bored you, uneducated fatties. Think.

    by qweruiop

...is a traitor. Which is going to be sweet because once the other person (Pacino or De Niro) figures it out, then it'll once again be a personal one-on-one manhunt between the two, maybe with a great final confrontation again. Sweet!

GOD MOVING OVER THE FACE OF THE WATERS

    by mr. nice gaius

A truly incredible piece of music (great track by Moby) that fits the final scene in HEAT to a T. The first time I ever heard that song was during a NASA documentary which was showing one of the lunar orbiters spinning above the surface of the moon. Something about that image (and the voice narration that was taking place) along with the music was truly moving. As for RIGHTEOUS KILL, I can only hope that the film is worthwhile. Maybe the strength of the actors can carry it further than the plot/writing. And I've always found it hard to believe that DeNiro and Pacino haven't worked together more often. Kind of shame when you consider the potential.

    by duanejones

...and that's why i walked out before it was over. i'm still glad i stuck around long enough to hear dinae venora say the word "detritus". that was, absolutely and without question, the high point of the film. awful. and the title alone of _righteous kill_ sounds like a consummation devoutly to be wished for this film, viz. that it be killed, righteously. pacino needs and nap. deniro needs to learn how to act again. and i could give a shit.

    Hmmm.

I have to say, if I was a cop I wouldn't work too hard to stop someone from killing rapists and murderers.

Now if they were to threaten the lovely Carla Gugino, well..then we would have squabbles.

Al and Robert look a little tired in this one.

    by prossor

just to kick off this ever present debate, whatever you think their best movie or who's better now, when they were at the top of their game in the 70s/early 80s, pacino was better. without scorsese deniro worked in basically two dynamics, you couldnt find one mediocre performance from pacino in that time period.
