Alexander Nevsky's HERCULES: THE BEGINNING Has Writers & A Director Now...
Merrick here...
A few weeks back we heard about a project called HERCULES: THE BEGINNING. It's being pulled together by Russian bodybuilder/actor Alexander Nevsky.

This is completely unrelated to Peter Berg's recently announced Hercules project. You can find our initial report about Nevsky's HERCULES HERE.
We recently heard from Mr. Nevsky, who updated us regarding his film's progress. The project is moving forward, and key players are currently being attached.
Alexander says he's working to develop "a new take" on the Hercules story, which:
...will be based on the
rising of Hercules and his first battles with evil, before legendary "12 Labors."
Part of the movie will shoot in Russia, with the rest filming in Morocco - sounds like it'll roll sometime next Spring.
Nevsky will co-script HERCULES with Sheldon Lettich. Lettich co-wrote RAMBO III with Stallone, and co-scripted DOUBLE IMPACT with Van Damme (a film Lettich also directed). Lettich will direct HERCULES: THE BEGINNING as well, which Nevsky says is both ironic and symmetrical:
Lettich was the first director that Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert approached for directing the pilot for their "Hercules: The Legendary Jorneys" TV series,
but he turned it down.
Interesting.
The Nevsky produced MAGIC MAN (in which he stars with Billy Zane, Robert Davi, Bai Ling, and Armand Assante) is currently in post production. It has an interesting, PRESTIGE-ish conceit if I understand the plot correctly. Essentially it's a "murder" mystery in which it's unclear if the crime is merely magic, or actual murder. MAGIC MAN should be released sometime next year.
More on HERCULES as more becomes known...

How many are we getting?
-
With a horrible accent!!! Love it!!!
-
I heard she was...
-
Is there going to be a goat-man voiced by Danny Devito?
-
Because that would sound great with a Russian accent
-
Russian Commando. Russian Terminator. Russian Conan. I'm all for it.
-
I hope it has a Scarecrow/Ra's Al Ghul type villians.
-
actual scarecrow for a villian and a guy who goes into a pit to regenerate.
-
I can't wait to never watch it in my life.
-
This sounds pretty cool, actually. It's unusual to see a co-writer of "Rambo III" and a Russian bodybuilder team up to kick some mythic ass. I feel some funky cross-pollination here that could result in stark and bloody film.
Molodets! -
does anybody know where i can go to watch that snl skit?
-
I actually tend to like the guy, he's chaismatic. Anyone else?
-
Hmmmmm...now when this comes out on Cinemax, will I be watching this or Alabama Jones and the Busty Crusade...which to choose...which to choose!
-
that should be the new catchphrase to be used in every talkback regarding new movies and casting.
-
...Listen to your friend Billy Zane, he's a cool dude.
-
Alexander Nevsky the dude who fought off the Germans in the middle ages. great Eisenstein flick as well. Speaking of Russian fables and tales they are even more interesting than British lore. King Arthur and all seem like stale shit cmopared to some of those Eastern european stories.

Why isn't Hercules rising? Everyone rises nowadays. If it's Hercules:The Beginning, how can they use the tag line, "Every myth has a beginning"? It would be redundant! There is a definitive paint by numbers procedure for bullshit prequels.
-
Holy shit, that was probably 20 years ago.

Ah, but it is "based on the rising of Hercules"
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
Based on the true story of This Summer, Half-man, Half-god, ALL WARRIYAH, Rising Soon, In a Theatre Near You

"The MIGHTY Hercules. What a disappointment."
"I'd like to see you try it."
"The MIGHTY Hercules."
"Stop saying, 'The Mighty Hercules'." -
I really like Billy Zane. I don't think any of his movies are that good, but I enjoying watching him act. Dead Calm is enjoyable, but mostly his role on Twin Peaks is what got me interested in him.
-
yes, count me in...i hope i get to hear voice over guy say his name...it's exciting!
-
Someone get those Motherfuckin' snakes out of my Motherfuckin' cradle.

I'll be honest, as a fan of Greek Myth, I hate these movies, and even the Sorbo series was painful most of the time, but at least it was fun for a yuck. Until those idiots making movies get it right and get STARS to play the Greek Gods, there's no point here either. I'll grant you, Zeus is hard one to cast nowadays. Only someone like Christopher Lee could probably play that part. But how do you not get Hugh Jackman as Ares or Michelle Pfeipher as Athena? Oh fine, sure, they're not GREEK enough. Fuck.
