The Reporter Has What Might Be The First Review Of THE SHIELD’s Seventh Season!!

Published at:  Aug 23, 2008 4:38:26 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

James Hibberd of The Hollywood Reporter appears to have scooped all media with a spoiler-free first review of the first eight episodes of “The Shield’s” final season (which will boast 13 episodes in all).

You can find it here.

Since we're here, I'll offer a few of my own spoiler-free observations:

1) 7.7 and 7.8 are likely the two most gripping and involving episodes of the series I’ve seen to date.

2) We see a lot happen this season I think many viewers have been waiting to see since season one.

3) Viewers should avoid starting a drinking game tied to the phrase “blackmail box.” Or even “black mailbox.” You and your friends will die.

4) From the minute a blonde fed named Olivia is introduced in a purely professional setting, I became convinced she would find her way to Victor Mackey’s (clap-riddled?) boning mechanism. (I am prohibited from revealing whether or not she gets there in the first eight.)

5) Mackey frenemy Shane Vendrell’s IQ seems to fluctuate wildly as best benefits whatever plotline is at hand.

6) As Hibberd points out, Mackey’s fellow detective Dutch is a terrifically compelling character, but often seems like he’s starring in another show set in the “Shield” universe. Not that anyone should mind.

Much as he did last season, AICN’s own “Capone” intends to review each of the episodes individually as they hurtle toward the series’ Sept. 2 premiere. Stay tuned.

Season Six is too damb expensive.

    by mistere

I love "The Shield" and have bought the first five seasons on DVD, but they are gonna have to come off of the Season Six price a bit before I pick that up. $38 for ten episodes is a bit too much money.

Where are the original "Shield 13"?

    by grandmufftarkin

As in the 13 commenters who cared enough to post when noone on this site gave two shits about this series? I was one of them, under another handle, I think.

This season's been done since the writer's strike

    by textual

But for whatever reason F/X wanted to delay the broadcast of these episodes...not a good idea in a continuity heavy show. I don't even remember half the plot points.

    Spotlight

    by nyj_et

I just read a freakin' Shield comic book. It's called "Spotlight" and takes place during the third season. I got it in TPB, find it a comic shop or amazon. Kicks ass.

    Heh, Dutch...

    by bass ackwards

In the cast interviews on the FX website, the actor playing Dutch says something similar to the idea of being on a different show in the same Shield-verse, everyone's talking about filming on location and their crazy dangerous stories and injuries, and he just kind of chimes in with smething like what show are you guys talking about? Once I was filming an episode and a pen ran out of ink...

Now Gramm, that scene would make up for the Season's delay.

    by stalkeye

Anyway, I'm glad those boneheads at Fox are finally airing the series' finale. We all know that Vic and especially Shane won't walk out of this unscathed. It'll prolly end in some Wooesque standoff between the two or more than likely they'll end up as Antwon's bitches: "When I say suck my dick, you'll ask me: Do you want me to lick your balls Daddy"?
One of the funniest lines in the series.

    Justice would be...

    by pinkfloyd2000

I'd like to see the show end with Dutch killing Mackey. I'm not sure how it would set up that way, but fuckin' A, that'd be justice served up on a platter. But the most crucial plot point of all better be revealed this season -- will Dutch finally spill the beans on Billings' vending machine side business? Ooooh I can't wait!

so how long until those 8 eps leak?

    by blue1622

Watching the torrent sites now...will happily dl and watch them, it's the least F/X deserves, for sitting on this for 6+ months.

I'll be torrenting Damages, once that starts back up, but otherwise, F/X can eat a bowl of dong, for how they've treated The Shield.

I think I'd rather watch a 2 hour block of CBS sitcoms, or even Heroes, than sit through Sons of Anarchy...that shit looks unwatchable.

Re: How are the guys at Fox boneheads?

    by stalkeye

for delaying the final season that's why. Sure some of ithad to do with Ryan's input in support of the writers' strike, but the eps were already in the can and Fox could have put them out a lil' earlier.Besides that hmm lets see:The Phantom Menace,The Watchmen lawsuit and especially Fox News!I guess that gives me plenty of reason to call them Boneheads, however I did'nt gt to check out Damages and stopped watching Nip tuck awhile ago.Sons of Anarchy sounds like a sequel to another Metal Gear Solid game. How fucking orginal.
