What a great ending to a GREAT season. They set up next season so perfectly! I can't wait! BTW the death at the end was so perfect!
-
fucking awesome, God I love this show
-
but those prior comments have me salivating. No Mary Poppins-like appearance from Kissinger?
-
I've been holding out for the DVD. Is there a release date yet?
-
they killed the unkillable
-
Is absolutely a highlight of the season for me. God dammit I want more.
-
Brock?? Don't tell me...DAMN YOU INTERWEB!!!
-
Does anyone else still consider this show a 'sleeper'?
-
Such a great episode. I loved the three simultaneous interrogations. "what is this, the good cop retarded cop routine?" "can i get one of those?" "nice move, dick!"
crazy ending though, unbelievable. You realize we're not going to get a new one for about a year? Sucks. -
cant wait till the fall for season 4... this episode proves that nothing that happens on this show is a "throw away"
-
"Does Brock ever tell you what to do?"
-
Good season ending sign-off though. I loved how Molatov dresses exactly like so many Russian chicks do when they come to America. That was funny.
-
Noooooooooooooooooo!!
-
Three years?
-
For that Cotton Hill voice that General Traister was using, even though he's voiced by some dude named Toby Huss. Apart from that, a great set-up for future seasons, with much better kills than that boring-ass Metalocylapse.
-
When the Torrent hits!
I never thought that VB would become one of my top 3 animated shows. Yes, I always liked it, but it got better with every single season! Last weeks episode was seriously one of the greatest things I've ever seen on TV, animated or not!
I just wish they would get rid of the Shrek-and-Family-Guy-ish "Look, Jonny Quest is a junkie and Mr Fantastic is an asshole, ha ha"-humor. But I'm willing to ignore it, as long as they keep their style of character driven stories (a rarity for "adult" cartoons) and pure insanity. -
(1) Triana's girlfriend who wanted to become a villain (2) Scott Hall, after emergency surgery to repair his broken neck from the bommeranged bola.
-
I hope you're joking. Toby Huss voiced both of those characters.
-
These last two episodes really make me wish they hadn't killed off Race Bannon. Race vs Brock "They Live" style would have kicked ass.
-
RIP Sho Nuff!
-
This was the BADASSIEST episode EVER! Next to Monarch and Dr. Mrs. Monarch's wedding this was the greatest battle episode of the show!
-
I thought it was one of the two co-creators just doing an older Sergeant Hatred or something, since they're so versatile (I couldn't believe they did my favorite, Scott Hall).
-
God bless those Astrobase fellas. Real class acts, those two.
-
WOW! What a satisfying finale, and the final scene neatly tied everything together.
-
Could someone please fucking tell me if Phantom Limb returns?
-
No, he doesn't.
Anyway. I thought this episode was really a big step down from the past few. The fight should have been more epic, more on the scale of the Cocoon vs. Guild battle at the end of last season. -
And you want it to be more epic?!?! Some people will never be happy.
-
*SEMI-SPOILERS*
He has no immediately preceding lines and it happens from a distance. I call (and admittedly hope) for shenanigans!
*END SEMI-SPOILERS*
ROCKIN' episode though.
-
The circumstances were epic, yes, but the actual fight was pretty lame. It was barely shown, unlike the Murderflies/Strangers battle, which had actual battle scenes.
-
"Who's that hood rat Brock's talking to? He could have any shorty he wants!"
-
when the henchmen were discussing with Scott Hall how indestructible they are, that they then end up dying. But what they ended up doing was a lot better. I also think it's a great idea to pair up the remaining one with a not-dead Scott Hall, but I'm sure what they end up doing will be more satisfying anyway. Also, did it imply that Hank and Dean also no longer have clones, so if they are to die now, there won't be any replacements?
-
POSSIBLE SPOILER Got a feeling that Cleaner is Jonas Venture END SPOILER
-
I think that the "you only live once" was in fact implying that there's no more clones. I was almost sure that #21 and #24 were going to bite it when they were with #1, and they never show #1's body. I think you may be onto something with having #1 joining #21. Or, even, it was #1's head, since all of the henchmen are basically indistinguishable.
-
That's spanish for "Go Fuck Yourselves!"
Just thought you'd want to know. Can't wait. -
*MORE SPOILERS*

That's Scott Hall

That's #24

And that's the dead henchman's head. Defintely #24's chin and nose.
It...uh...damn it's a slow day at work today. -
Maybe I'm too sad the season's over to properly enjoy the episode. My fav this season was the Killinger episode.
-
---i don't recall the bros. learning about the fact that they're clones...i thought they just believed they were immortal Highlanders...---
-
****HEAVY FUCKING SPOILERS AHEAD****
at least to an extent. the Season 2 finale was the perfect balance of serious action and whiskey tango foxtrot humor that the show's known for. the David Bowie/Iggy Pop/Klaus Kinski appearances along with Dean's Never-Ending Story psychotic episode kept the humor going throughout the rather awesome Brock's motivational speech and following fight sequence. it was a constant escalation and you actually found yourself exited about it all.
this one, by comparison, starts out in part one with all the action that the season's been building up to, but then veered completely into the WTF humor side of things for the finale. Brock setting the Monarch up against OSI in a ridiculously lop-sided match, the clone army serving no purpose other than being there and fucked up, and the Monarch's suit being a worthless pile of junk, only to have it all turn out to be a ploy by Molotov. there was no real resolution, just escalating levels of weird, followed by killing off 24(which they've been setting up for the last three or four episodes) and H.E.L.P.E.R, and having Brock quit. the whole episode was one long "what the fuck?" i don't know if this was a misstep by Hammer and Publick, or(entirely more likely) exactly what they planned to do, but it was an undeniable sharp left turn from where all of this seemed to be going. -
season 2 finale: ever-escalating levels of "HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!!!"
season 3 finale: ever escalating levels of "wait, what the fuck?!?"
good or bad? ask me again once season 4 gets going. -
Talk about esoteric.
-
but maybe the reason Adrienne tried to kill Brock in the first place was because he got the code wrong? Like a defense mechanism in case an Arch got ahold of the car and was trying to access OSI files? Leaving Brock believing the OSI was after him when the only real person trying to gain anything from this was MC?
So H.E.L.P.E.R. and #24 are dead? I'm gonna miss "Ray Romano"... I wish the Moppets are the ones who got killed though. I hate those little pieces of shit! -
They totally set off the detonator that killed #24. Doctor Wife left it on her throne when she rushed off to stop the Monarch from blasting off in his woefully overpowered Ironman-type suit.It had to be those little bastards.
But HELPeR will be back. He's survived worse -
I haven't watched it yet but please don't tell me there is a Buffy shout out. I almost died when I saw the one on Spaced. I don't think I can take much more.
-
Who will 21 have nerd debates with now?
-
I'm not usually a talk-back guy, but I needed to go somewhere to say this:
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!
The episode, while not without it's good parts, did not live up to the rest of the season (hands down, best season so far), but that's not my problem.
Killing 24? Are you shitting me? Are you absolutely shitting me? I'll obviously give them the benifit of the doubt (they did kill the main characters at the end of season one), but that did not work for me, personally, after the lack-luster episode.
And the 'Dawn reference' was from back when Baron Underbite (sp?) tried to marry Dean, but kept calling him 'Dawn.' Hank thought the Baron was referencing a sister they never knew they had. -
In the episode with the serial killer versions of the Scooby Doo characters, Hank and Dean stumble upon the clones. Dr. Venture covers this up to them by saying that the clones are Christmas presents. Thus, Hank asking to open his Christmas presents early.
Am I the only one who wanted Monarch to defeat OSI? It seems that he's actually a competent villain when he's not arching Rusty Venture. At least we don't have to wait as long for season 4 as we did for season 3. -
no, you are definitely not the only one. i was really hoping that the henchmen had mostly been trained to the level of Number 1, making it something resembling a fair fight, but it simply was not to be.
-
Who blew the charges on H.E.L.P.E.R.? It was left on Mrs. The Monarch's throne but she was on the battlefield when the car exploded. Goddamn moppets...I blame them.
Also...did Sarge re-program Adrienne to set up Brock's falling out with OSI just to live the sexy female assassin dream?
So Many questions... -
Do you mean me? Heh. After the initial volley, though, it seemed like they were holding their own. Anyway, I fucking hate those moppets. I'm really hoping #21 kills them.
-
They should pay these guys to do 24 episodes a year, it's better than any film series out there... period.
-
My life will not have meaning again until season 4 starts, and it was 24 that set off the charge. Don't know who it was that blew up.
-
not a ploy by Mol
--
-- A Ploy by Mol and HG Which explains the car's "termination notice" and every move Brock made. -
That said, this one was more intense throughout, and the twist ending is damned evil. Can't wait for Season 4.
-
I almost pissed myself.
-
To have an entire episode about it, and to have it end up in the Venture Compound, where this huge final fight was known to be occurring, you'd think it'd have played a role. Great season overall though, and I really hope they revisit the idea next year of Dr. Venture becoming a villain. This show is so ever-evolving, it'd be perfectly in step.
-
I hold out hope against all reason that HG has infiltrated the
Blackhearts, and not joined them in earnest. This was my initial reading of the concluding stinger, before the full plot of the last three eps gelled. Molotov's plot wouldn't have worked without Hunter feeding Brock that line that the OSI had thrown him to the wolves. But neither Mol nor Hunter, far as I can determine, had the means to sabotage Adrienne, unless Hunter were still in cahoots with some faction of OSI. -
Wasn't Monarch's battle suit an homage to "The Last Starfighter"?
-
So Molotov is being set up as a big bad? Nice. It will be even nicer when Brock gaffles that bitch and sends her back to the hell she crawled out of all those years ago. THERE WILL BE BLOOD!
-
All very interesting! Who knows what really happened! Roll on series 4! Anyone know when its due to hit?
-
According to Jackson Publick on his Live Journal page, he and Doc are completely burned out and exhausted after completing season 3. They have sent their entire crew home for six weeks so they can rest and recover.
They plan to restart production in late September. According to Jackson this means the the earliest we could see new episodes would be fall 2009. It is possible that since Adult Swim seems to like to air Venture Brothers in the Summer we may not see new episodes until Summer 2010.
On a side note. I despair a bit for a season five. Unless no one in Hollywood is paying attention I think Jackson and Doc may be moving on after Season 4. Adult Swim does not pay that well. If there is not a line of producers with wheelbarrows full of money outside Astrobase Go begging these guys to work on their projects there is something wrong with the world.
Adult Swim needs to offer up some serious cash to Jackson and Doc to protect their crown jewel. They need to get Doc and Jackson more staff so they aren't working 16 hours a day for 18 months to put out a season. -
and a great epic-yet-lameass megabattle. What the hell are you whiners even on about? Just trying to live up to the stereotype of fanboys who do nothing but hate on their "favorite" shows? Sheesh. You want serious sci-fi battles, go watch Galactica. The point of this show is to pull the rug out from under the genre.
-
I hope the boys dont get sick of doing it, because it is one of the most original shows on TV. Plus seriously funny as well. Have a break boys, then bring is season 4 post haste!! lol
-
Fuckin' unbelievable! Some funny ass shit in that one. Team Venture is the BEST Adult Swim has to offer. Period.
-
It was #1 that killed #24. We never saw his body and thought he died.
-
You've gotta be shitting me.
Let me sleep on the Astrobase's couch and live off of stale Doritos and I'll intern for free, if that makes this shit happen any faster. -
Eh, screw Mike Judge. He killed off Cotton Hill. So good on Astrobase Go for hiring him to do a similar-sounding, yet different character.
-
was an homage to the band Iron Butterfly. I'm really reaching there.
-
lets bore you all with some conspiracy tat. In the doctor is sin, we know that doctor killinger had been giving dean arching lessons and we have seen him have a breakdown, brought on from the situations of showdown at cremation creek, factors such as battle stress and proximity to the core of the cacoon, He is the action johnny of the two brothers. What with his assumed panic/heart attack, might it be that we see dean fulfil his dark training that the monarch alluded to? We know that killinger is working with an agenda, to get a venture into the guild. It would be interesting if done right but the obvious course of action with such an idea would see dean turn due to some psuedo anakin event, the loss of his lady perhaps? also, was it ever explained how she got away from that guy that kidnapped her? and in "the invisible hand of fate" when we see phantom limb's grandpappy, was he in "orb" Or any names dropped? perhaps he was the one orchastrating the attack against the dudes in the blimp. Or did i miss that explaination too? I love thinking up all this crap but i'd hate it even more if i was right.
-
Seriously, in an age that celebrates the act of recycling ideas (even going so far as to vulgarly "remake" a piece of art) something like this should be given more respect. Here's hoping Cartoon network makes like Pixar and actively retains it's best talent.
-
(much like everything else involving them) were a bit of a letdown.
I figure 21 will figure out it was the Moppets that pushed the button and will either train under Brock or join up with the Ventures to get revenge. -
What a season it was. Too bad there's nothing else worth watching till season 4.
-
You just know it would have been great. And then he gets totally pwnd by Dr Mrs the Monarch. Classic !
It all pretty much made sense with what had gone before yet somehow managed the unexpected. But, no, it wasn't perhaps the best EP we've seen this year IMO.
Thing is Venture doesn't need the perfect story arc it just needs to keep the funny going. And this season it has. Pretty much in spades.
I always concieve #24 as the straight(ish) man in a double act but there may be some hilarity in trying to line up a replacement. Likewise Brock could "retire" for a while and a similar amusing audition process for a replacement bodyguard for Rusty and the boys could ensue.
Roll on season 4. Venture is simply great TV that's gonna be missed. -
We all know Hatrid will likely be the new bodyguard, or at least try with reckless abandon.
We might see a little bit of Brock trying to fit into the "old life",pre-OSI. Enter in a situation brought up by our new friends and Dermot goes to try and find him. Will Brock know/admit to him being his son?
What implications will the deadly hearts present?
How is Kanos Soufflé?
All that and more...in a year and a half. Who knows, the guys from Heroes will catch on with how to do a decent season. -
I know it is hinted that Hatred will be the new Venture bodyguard and it would beyond edgy to have a pedo bodyguard but I think the super extra creep factor would negate having Hatred around on a regular basis trying to control his urges to "bad touch" the boys.
I would rather see someone like Jefferson Twilight sit in for a few eps.
If there is a weakness in the Venturevers (As in all TV)there is a lack of characters of color. The original Team Venture was diverse lets see some diversity in the modern Team Venture. -
Yeah he's there at the compound but he IS still supposed to be arching Rusty.
Hatred could indeed be funny though. Even if just for a short disasterous spell. Ned might also make an amusing bodyguard on loan from Jonas Jnr. Though if Brock was the best OSI could produce imagine the amusing dreck they might have in reserve as the worst should they feel duty bound to replace Brock themselves.
Pretty sure we'll have a lot more excellent Order of the Triad stuff too.
Essential viewing whenever it gets back. -
Hatred did already molest the twins: Hank even remembers it (he refers to it when meeting Myra).
-
But, since there is a talk back handy I just thought I'd ask, is it wrong to find Dr Girlfriend hugely attractive...I don't know whats wrong with me !!!!!!Help !!!!!
-
Thought I'd create an urban legend:
Ray Romano is threatening to sue the show and so they had to remove the character from the show.
That's my lie and I'm sticking to it. -
He said they were uncomfortable. How are they different than his speedsuit? Never mind, I don't need to know.
-
Since 21 seems to agree with your opinion, I don't thing you'd have anything to worry about.
As for the notion that Brock was "the best" the OSI had, it was Hatrid himself that assigned him to Rustys blanket. As for the Triad, Orpheus is of part of a different group, very supernatural. Okay for parties perhaps, but his day job calls for him to be a stay at home dad with the occasional task for the cosmos(which oddly results in him living on the compound). -
...that's the joke.
-
Is the best show on TV.
I'm surprised there aren't more people in the VB talkbacks.
-
great ending. Although they pretty much dropped the whole Orb thing. I still liked it a lot
-
And Triester assigned Brock to Rusty's Blanket. Triester knows Grock by his agent number and decides his situation needs him personally to sort it out. Hatred is just an Arch and not a very good one since he failed the Triad tryouts and was assigned to Rusty.
Orpheus IS part of the Order of the Triad along with the alchemist and Twighlight.
BTW I still think Jefferson Twighlight should still get a host of Blaculas to destroy at some point. Or at least keep appearing in different situations of peril with the other members of the Triad looking for said Blaculas to kill until perhaps eventually Orpheus and the Alchemist finally encounter one or a host of Blaculas and Jefferson is somehow "indisposed" at that exact time. -
A Sgt. Hines(Hatrid) assigned Brock to Rustys blanket in "The Invisible Hand of Fate". It is from this appearance that we see that he was an undercover spy for the guild. At the episodes point in time, the guild had yet to make its re-appearace.

I just shit a redwood log, not tertiary growth but PRIMARY FORES
by dark doom
Tralfaz? Clones? FUCKING BIBLICAL HERE (LIKE A 50 FOOT LONG TWINKIE)
DUNE CODPIECES? HOLY FUCK!!! -
If Lucas was still alive and not a capitalist clone, if Heavy Metal was still a real adult comic mag, if any one in American animation would stop sucking their colon THIS IS THE GREATNESS WE DESERVE.
rock on muther fuckers!!!! PEACE OUT BYOTCHES!!! -
Other than that, it was no better or worse than any other Venture Bros. show. I DID like The Cleaner's judicious use of lemon-scented acid, though. >:)
-
And why, oh why, did Henchman 24 have to buckle his seatbelt? R.I.P., 24 and here's hoping you're driving a sweet Nissan Stanza in the sky...
-
That almost played out like an ANTI-public service announcement!
Next season I could totally see a half-crazed 21 ranting at some kids in a playground to ignore their parents and not buckle up. -
Since the show began I always managed to see an episode here and there, but in the past couple of weeks I watched all of the episodes from the beginning and was able to really appreciate the awesomeness of The Venture Bros. Once you start watching it, you can't stop dammit. Now I'm going to have to force myself to forget about this show for a year or so, or I'll go crazy tweaking for the next season.
-
Still the best show around though. Don't be afraid to use Ben Edlund again guys!
-
I know its easy to bash on Doc and Jackson for the season. It had more then its share of back story and the end fizzled if you couldn't get around the confusion Brock is surrounded with, but its all essential. By showing what JJ has been up to you can't write him off like Underbheit. By having Hatrid even in a minor spot, they show that the guild has been very active despite being out of the light for 20 or so years. They made a sandbox this year, and filled it up. Next year, expect a few more layers plus the harvest from this season. We all know that the semi-phantom limb is gonna try and find the ORB. They did this because they could, to make the two year deal worth it.
-
I know exactly what you mean!I finally got up to speed 3 weeks ago! It's gonna be a long wait.Wonder if I can find a weekly meeting somewhere....btw thanks to the regulars here for recommending this show (yeah,I'm looking at you stfudonny, you rat bastard...j/k).
