I am – Hercules!!

Ben Affleck will play an opportunistic lawyer in Mike Judge’s latest big-screen comedy, “Extract.”

The Miramax feature, which starts shooting Monday, is about a flower-extract factory worker who loses a body part in a freak accident and finds himself pursuing a substantial settlement from his employer. Others in the cast include Kristen Wiig, Mila Kunis, Clifton Collins Jr. (Perry Smith in "Capote"), and Jason Bateman.

Writer-director Judge is the man behind "Beavis & Butt-head," "King of the Hill," "Office Space," "Idiocracy" and the upcoming animated ABC sitcom "The Goode Family."

Whoa, a new Mike Judge animated sitcom?

    by iamnicksaicnsn

I dunno, I mean, King of the Hill is OK, but never anything I felt I had to watch consistently. With the death of the Simpsons, Futurama's movies being subpar (even though the last one was a little better, but again WHY AREN'T FRY AND LEELA TOGETHER), only South Park and to a lesser extent Family Guy are the only consistent "big" animated shows right now. I mean, Robot Chicken has it's moments, obviously the Venture Bros has been great... but I'm talkin' the mainstream stuff. Oh and Idiocracy was surprisingly pretty good.

will the studio kill this? It is nice to see Miramax is handling it, but after they slaughtered Idiocracy and Office Space, which are two of my most quoted films, I have no faith that anyone in the Hollywood machine will back one of his films in the way they deserve.

    by depalma25

It's about time the studio's took notice. I enjoy an Apatow comedy, and Tropic Thunder was pretty good, but Judge understands satire better than anyone. Idiocracy was so completely underrated it's a tragedy. Office Space...well, it's a classic. I saw "Jump to Conclusions" welcome mat actor at McDonalds the other day btw. He was also the "bullshit" story cop in Fugitive. I was too much of a bitch to say anything.

There’s a lot going on with Mr. Judge. “Office Space” gives me hope each and every time I see it and “Idiocracy” IS the future. There is a lot to be said for his satire. I, for one, can not wait to see this on the big screen.

    by thelastcleric

He hasn't had a legitimate hit in years and he has the screen presence of a used diaper. The guy is ten shades of dull yet they keep using his boring ass in films that might otherwise be solid. I love Mike's work but somebody in Hollywood needs to void Affleck's deal with the devil and expel him to the direct-to-DVD marketplace where he most certainly belongs.

    by crow3711

Gone Baby Gone was one of the finest movies of 2007. He needs to find a new piece of work to push his directing further, not star in another stupid comedy from the guy whose last movie was Idiocracy, a terribly unfunny movie. I love Office Space and Beavis and Butthead as much as anyone, but just as far as Affleck goes, this is a mistake. I would much rather see him take another shot at direction.

that he's smart, serious, charming, funny and sincere and he doesn't know how to turn himself off and the character on when he's in front of the camera. Put him behind the camera or in front of a laptop and he shows us what a potent talent he is.

    by ko-dan_mothership

It just needed a better third act. The monster truck rally was kind of stupid, and the bloodthirsty crowd wouldn't have given a shit about some "faggy" plants when given the chance to see someone get burned alive. Maybe what Mike Judge should have done is had Wilson torn limb from limb in front of the cameras, and then have Maya Rudolph catch the replay on a Fox News morning show with the bikini hosts laughing and drinking gatorade coffee. Then she could see it again that night on America's Fucked-up Home Videos with a ridiculous Sagat-clone doing funny voices. "Ow that hurts. . . I'm a faggot. Owch ah sheeit. Haw haw!" Why not? He lost studio support right? So fuck it, take it all the way and seriously unnerve some people. . .

What the fuck were you people on? Don't get me wrong, some of the tard imitations were funny, but its was mostly a couple of steps above a Wayans movie. And Tom Cruise? I think this flick has helped firmly cement him as a washed up loser. I've never seen more dead screen time then when he did his fucking dances. You could hear the perplexion in peoples brains during the credits sequence, just this aghast wonderment at why the fuck a human being would be embarassing himself in such a way.

Really Ben? After your success with Gone Baby Gone? Mike Judge? With Mila Kunis, Clifton Collins Jr. (the brackets mean you are not famous enough for everyone to know of you), and Kristen Wiig. Though Jason Bateman, I will watch in just about anything. So, thumbs up there. Idiocracy is underrated, but compared to other satires, pales greatly. Mr. Judges, even if the US of A was to slow intellectually come the next millennium, a Porn Star President and giant Penis Monster Trucks.... A BIG NO THANK YOU Pass! So now we will get a... flower-extract factory worker after a bad day? Whatever. Ben go make another gritty film on your own, you can do better than Judge on his best day - EVER.

Dang Return Key got me... Agreed… Tropic Thunder had moments of humor -excusing the fact I felt like I was watching parts of the Three Amigos in the jungles of Vietnam vs. the Desert, with a vibe of being hopped up on 'Jelly Beans' (wink-wink). Fake trailers? The real ones are funny enough. Like making fun of a Mine… they have already done your job for you just be being – A Mine. Very uneven pacing, kept me out of much of the movie. On Tom Cruise, when the credits rolled, and Les ‘Tommy-C’ Grossman did his little dance (and then showed in the credits who he was), just about everyone in the packed theatre I was in went: WTF? That was Tom Cruise? Why? I thought: Just get Owen Wilson to do a pointless cameo, careful not to mention Kate though, he might get weepy! Or not too risky, get Vince Vaughn. Back to Cruise, how many times did he say, f#ck? Seriously, he looked utterly mad in his glee, while acting out this douche of a dream character, F-Bombing everyone. Dead screen time, and just seemed to be channeling his own barely suppressed fury.

    by geraldbeans

He just isn't. He's gotten a lot of opportunity to get better too. A lot of practice. More than most actors will ever get. And he just never improved. He got worse if anything. His two best roles were Dazed and Confused and Chasing Amy. He seems like a really cool grounded guy - hard to be in Hollywood. But in the end it's about acting chops, and he doesn't have them. Still, the main characters in Judge's movies usually aren't the focus. They're just plot devices so he can sprinkle in all the more interesting supporting characters he's so great at creating. So that gives me hope for this movie.

alright. It had its moments. but by the end, it had lost all its steam. It became forced. The stuff about the decline of culture as represented in the giant Ass on cinema screen is highly memorable. Americans drinking out of toilet bowls, is stretching it a it far. Bush has proved that an idiot backed up by a wealthy family can be president. Can a wrestler? or a former austrian bodybuilder turned actor turned governor.

    by fiester

And don't say "Phantoms" yo. He's fucking cringeworthy in everything he does. Just fucking awful: Daredevil, Smokin' Aces, all the Kevin Smith schlock (yes, even Chasing Amy)--the guy is the cinematic equivalent to a hangover fart in an elevator.

BEN AFFLECK = BOX OFFICE POISON

    by dick bahls

Everything he's been in for quite a while now has bombed. No one want's to see this guy on screen except for a few "Chasing Amy" fanboys who remember in the beginning when Kevin Smith's movies were enjoyable. They ain't anymore, they suck - but still not as badly as Affleck. But now that I think about it, Affleck should have played the horse's dick in Clerks 2.

Flicks Affleck was any good in

    by samuel fulmer

Good Will Hunting, Hollywoodland, Dogma, Changing Lanes. He's been in a lot of bad movies, but I think when you look at them (any of the Bay films, Daredevil, Forces of Nature, Gigli), no one else in the parts could've made them films better.

It's overshadowed by the Simpsons and Family Guy, but it has been consistently funny for years. Hell, in recent years it has become funnier than either of its neighboring cartoons.

    by rbatty024

I read somewhere because it was too anti-corporate, but I would be surprised if Fox was that observant about the message in their movies.

Most Underrated Funny Man in Hollywood

    by _maltheus_

Office Space is a serious contender for the funniest movie ever made. Beavis and Butthead was great and Kill of the Hill has the most consistent quality of any show ever made (not great, but very good).
So I was drinking with some friends explaining to them my theory that stupid people out-breed smart people and the human race is necessarily doomed and that's when someone turned my on to Idiocracy. I had been waiting for a movie like that forever. Perhaps it could have used a little more work, but it was the most believable sci-fi future I've ever seen depicted. Fuck Blade Runner! Idiocracy is, without a doubt, our destiny.
So fuck yeah, I'm gonna see this movie. I'll be all over his new show as well (first time I heard about it). This will be a great antidote to the half dozen or so Will Ferrell movies they make a year. I've never once in my life laughed at anything Ferrell has done. But Judge makes me laugh every time.

Idiocracy didn't get a theatrical release because...

    by mooli_mooli

... it was really, really bad.

I love Mike Judge, but Idiocracy was a fantastic idea ruined by godawful execution. The jarring, overly obvious narration was the biggest of many flaws.

    Long range demographic projections

    by slugbat

show that white people, no matter their IQ, are not breeding at all. Soon they will decline in real numbers as they are already declining relative to other ethnicities. I think this underlying reality may have scared away incredibly PC movie execs from promoting/distributing Idiocracy in any real terms.
PS I don't think I'm the first one to suggest this. For Idiocracy to reflect reality, 2500AD America would be almost completely devoid of whitey. In fact, Joe Bauers might be the only white guy walking around by that point.

    by skraggo

So far, Mike Judge has done no wrong in my opinion. "Office Space" is his magnum opus, but "Idiocracy" also has a lot going for it. There's a local steakhouse in my town that actually has "Big-Ass Fries!" on the menu, and with shit like "Flava of Love" and "I Love New York" and "The Hills" and every other shit reality show clogging up the airwaves, I'd say that "Idiocracy" is not so much satire as it is prophecy. I, for one, will be there for "Extract."

Afflecks cameo in Boiler Room? Cmon...

    by jackrabbitslim

That's a pale shadow compared to Alec Baldwins raw acidic bile spat out in Glengarry Glen Ross (Mr Baldwin's pinnacle imo). Ben Affleck was to the late 90s early 00s what Kevin Costner was in the late 80s to mid 90s, pretty, mediocre acting ability (though Kevin has shown flashes of brilliance the rare times he's inspired - Mr Brooks and Open Range come to mind) with less of an ability than Costner to choose commercially successful scripts. Sadly, Ben Affleck's place high in the Hollywood food chain seems to now be occupied by the equally pretty and talent-deficient Josh Hartnett. For what it's worth, whoever Affleck's agent was should have been hurled out of a catapult and splattered onto the walls of the Masada for recommending him the Paycheck script.

Ben Affleck is My Special Boy

    by skani

You know, I like Ben Affleck. Thought Sum of All Fears was pretty good. C'mon, give it up, his Boiler Room cameo was good. He was good in Hollywoodland. Gone, Baby, Gone was good until the stupid ending. I agree that he's only a so-so actor, but he's likable--he has everyman appeal. Nevertheless, I think JackRabbit is right that Open Range and Mr. Brooks are too shining beacons in Kevin Costner's ridiculous, self-aggrandizing career.

Office Space is clearly the goods. Idiocracy, well, I'm with some other folks. It's an interesting enough idea, and it has it's moments, but it's just too all over the place and kind of runs out of steam. Hope this one is good.

    by itchy

Because if so, I'll see it, per her being smoking hot. If not ? Maybe video. Idiocracy was mildly entertaining - great premise, but patchy execution and NO production value. Should have been a lot better. As for Affleck, the guy gets undeservingly ragged (primarily thanks to the J-Lo era) ... he's very solid in a whole range of different stuff (Dogma, Good Will Hunting, etc), and his directing debut (Gone, Baby, Gone) was one of the best debut films I've ever seen.

    _idiocracy_, et la wiig

    by duanejones

definitely put me in the pro-_idiocracy_ column. not a pitch perfect, "not a wasted scene or performance" instant masterpiece like _office space_, but one that wins out on the astonishingly negative critique of our dipshit-ocratic, consumerist lifestyle (a plotline/sensibility copped, somewhat, by a loveable l'il bucket of bolts named wall-e). "carl's jr. -- fuck you, i'm eating!" brilliant, and one of many likesame lines. also, credit this flick for finally revealing the ample charms / unusual hotness of ms. maya rudolph and, um, "the girls"...
and speaking of unusual hotness, good lord the divine kristen is all that, albeit absent, um, "the girls". whatev!! what she lacks in cup size she more than makes up for in overall looks, wiit (sorry), timing and, i bet, dirty talking when it counts. if tina fey is the thinking man's smart/funny erotic ideal, kristen wiig is the effing thinking man's tina fey!
