I actually think this is a great move. Laurence Fishburne is a super actor when given good material, and CSI will provide places for him to go.
I'm not the biggest "CSI" fan in the world, but since reruns of it have run on Spike, I've come to appreciate its milieu. The scripts and production values are always of high quality, and a few episodes actually deal with really scary shit. The nature of sadism and masochism is talked about, even. How often do you get that on other prime time shows?
I hope they give Laurence some good stuff to sink his teeth into, and I'll definitely tune in.

Seems like CBS is playing it safe with this choice, he is a good actor and has that special quality that you need for a CSI show. He can deliver a line of techo-babble or pseudo religious bullshit in a monotone voice that is convincing and believable. I really don't see Lawrence bringing anything new to the CSI franchise.
I actually enjoyed the first few seasons of CSI and only started losing interest in the show when William Petersen started take longer breaks from the show and began to take a backseat to his less talented costars.

    Die CSI, Die!!

    by skani

I gave up on CSI after the third season. I really enjoyed the first two, but buy the end of three, it was just getting old. Worst of all is the completely over-the-top exposition-speak: "I don't know who did it yet, but by resequencing all available DNA transfers through my spikrotechtrometer, we'll reconfigure the alleles and create a composite interpolation that will allow our algorithms to rule out our possible suspects." Thanks for cluing the audience in. Fishbourne is a fine actor, but he has to be thinking pay day here, because this show has jumped the shark, done another lap, and is now approaching for a second jump.

So, how bad does it get after season 3? A relative who still watched it as of a few years ago was telling me that they were starting to get into personal relationship among the CSI team and stuff. Bleh. Plus, David "I'm-scrawny-and-a-goon-but-listen-to-my-tough-voice-and-bow -before-my-piercing-stare" Caruso added some extra ridiculosity to whole the franchise.

    Fishburne is great, but, ........

    by leftfoot

Fishburne is great, I was hoping Gary Sinise would 'transfer over'. CSI New York is, by far, the weakest of the 3 CSIs. But, Sinise is the best lead of the three.
David Caruso is irritating. His character has to be the center. Caruso's idea of serious acting is to talk slow and take himself very seriouosly.
Gary Sinise standing still without moving has more acting force than Horation & Grissom combined.

    by goatweed

but it seems like a LOT of change is happening WAY too fast on this show. Jorja last season in the beginning, Gary at the end of it and now Bill halfway through this one. I love Larry but Bill's fingerprints are all over that show (literally). Without him i think much of the feel will be lost and it will gravitate towards Miami and NY levels of crap-dom.

I stopped watching a few years ago ...

    by dennismm

and didn't really understand why. Then I saw an episode on Spike while I was in hospital. The episode was probably from season five, maybe four even, and every single member of the CSI unit was running around in black. Even Grissom, who was always a blue shirt and khaki windbreakerj sort, was wearing a very dark shirt and a red-on-black plaid jacket with such dark red it was difficult to see from across the room. "CSI" was never supposed to be cool. That was the whole point. Nick and Warrick and Catherine may have tried to be cool, but the nature of the job and the things we had to watch they do blocked coolness. Grissom and Sara didn't try to be cool. But somewhere along the line, not long after "Miami" came along, I guess the powers that be decided cool was the rule.

Farewell, Petersen. I will watch "Manhunter" in your honor, several times.

I watched from day one. Catherine, Nick and Warrick tried to be cool but regularly were exposed as geeks. Grissom didn't care that he was a geek, and Sara fell in with Grissom as the show progressed. The network "Miami"-d them hard once that program started.
