KNIGHT Ploy Rides Again?? Critics Get Zip On 90210!!

Fall screeners are pouring in, but the CW says critics will not get a look at its new “90210” prior to the show’s premiere. The netlet’s statement:
"The CW and our studio partner CBS Paramount Network Television have made the strategic marketing decision not to screen "90210" for any media in advance of its premiere. We're not hiding anything . . . simply keeping a lid on 90210 until 9.02, riding the curiosity and anticipation into premiere night, and letting all our constituents see it at the same time."
NBC employed the same strategy on its awful “Knight Rider” pilot last February. Thanks no doubt to built-in name recognition, the two-hour “Rider” event was a ratings monster and spawned a series debuting Sept. 24.
Despite screeners that yielded poor reviews, NBC’s “Bionic Woman,” another project that traded on a built-in brand name, premiered to very strong numbers last fall. It was cancelled after eight episodes in response to plummeting ratings.
The new “90210” is overseen by Gabe Sachs & Jeff Judah, who worked on “Just Shoot Me!” and wrote two episodes of “Freaks and Geeks” before serving as showrunners of ABC’s 2004 high school drama “Life As We Know It.”

the CW is a much smaller network so it doesnt need the big ratings the other networks need. i've no doubt that if this had returned to Fox, it wouldnt have lasted a month but since its CW...it has a chance, hopefully im wrong but.

Was really bad. Can't understand how that show even had a whiff of a second chance. Can't wait for a new version of "Supertrain."

I agree with DListed. That should have been the title here. It's a chance to see Shannen return to the character that made her famous. Original fans are finally getting closure, so this will get them to tune in. Another reason I HAVENT written off this show... AnnaLynne McCord (Eden from "Nip/Tuck") is on this show. She get's my attention every time.

Sure he's no longer involved, but he still wrote the pilot episode. So it has to be halfway decent. But the chick from "Degrassi: The Next Generation" playing the lead will be it's eventual doom. She is a bad actress. Cassie Steele would have been a better choice. And what's going to make this edgier than shows like "South of Nowhere". "South of Nowhere" was a show about rich LA kids and the surprise was that the main character was a closeted Lesbian who eventually got a hot girlfriend. I don't forsee 90210 Part Deux doing this type of stuff.

This is going to be terrible. The only decent teen drama is Gossip Girl by a landslide, by the way. Although, I sort of got a kick out of the BBC series Skins (debuted on BBC America this weekend in New York.)

The CW should split back into UPN and the WB. WB can have Gossip Girl and that other goofy shit. UPN didn't cater to 12 year old girls.

Nowhere Man, The Sentinel and Jake 2.0, whereas WB actually gave fledgling shows a chance to develop a steady fan base, ie Buffy.

I mean seriously, who listens to reviews anyway? the network paid for the show, air it and lets see the results......maybe with fewer press screenings the released version of the show/movie/play etc will be closer to what was intended before the "experts" opinions cause the studios to make changes

What's up with her look? When she was on Nip/Tuck, her skin made me think of the Duracell family commercials from years ago. That's not to say that I'd turn her down but it struck me as unusual. Maybe it's her nose. I'm sure she's not going to play the virgin part on 90210. And count my name to the list of Supernatural fans. That show is the best thing on the CW.

Or did you avoid saying? Or did I blot it all out and just thought you liked it for no good reason? Anyway, the showrunner of that series hated it too, if that's any comfort. Can't say I see anything worthwhile coming from Knight Rider the franchise, but I guess it beats a Baywatch reunion...wait, no it doesn't...
