    The British Office is very...

    by jor-el23

British. I think the American one is better and I'm usually the kind of person who "likes their older stuff better", prefers the original to the remake etc...in essence, a douchy snob who cares too much about inconsequential things. But the American office is way better. it could just be that the american Office has had more half hours to flesh out an entire universe, delve deeper into other branches, longer story arcs for more office politics etc...

    The American Office Rules

    by ghostdog808

I'm a huge fan of the original show, but the American Office is first class - I do prefer it to the English one. The US version has taken a different path, but it is pure genius. Can't wait for the new season!!

    us version > uk version

    by 40oztofreedom

the Gervais version used to be better, but the Steve Carell has grown into itself so well, that it is leaps and bounds better than it's UK counterpart at this point. no question. jor-el23 up there hit it right on the head

    America vs. England

    by mojorising74

When I watched the first season of the Ameican Office, halfway through I decided I couldn't stand the half assed mimcry of characters so much better realized. But something happened in season 2. Michael made a huge sale to Tim Meadows at Chili's and then hooked up with his boss, something that could have never happened on the british version. Michael justified his existence as the boss. From that moment on, Carell made Micheal his own, and the show has never bothered to look back. Characters beyond the pam and jim storyline have grown, and Dwight is now the man through sheer cock strong confidence, something Mackenzie Crooks character could have never been. From that moment in Chili's, when Micheal closed the deal, the American version has oficially kicked the British versions ass.

    well

    by nora inu

after 4 seasons of the american version they are so different it's hard to compare. neither makes the other look like dogshit to be sure but the british one is a pretty magnificent self contained story arc. Also it deals with the documentary within the show element much more realistically. Does anyone besides me wonder what these camerapeople filming all this footage over the past 4 years are friggin' doing with it?

    UK vs American Office....

    by playkins

If you were to compare Season 1 of the US show with Series 1 & 2 of the UK show, I'd vote UK. Since Season 2, the US show has grown significantly to the point that I don't think they're comparable. Too different from each other, both with many, many positives.

They are just too different now

    by chorleyfm

I love both, but barring the surface similarities you just can't compare them. The UK show is pretty perfect, not a wasted scene, but it can be a tough watch at times. The US version has a lot more troughs in terms of quality, but it is often more enjoyable to watch when it is good because it can get away with silliness and more warmth.

    Nora Inu...

I thought the episodes themselves were the final product. You know, as if the documentary crew edited their footage into a bunch of 22 minute episodes and sold them to NBC.

    American vs. British

    by mraig

I would say the answer to this question (which is really pointless to ask) changes every season.

After Season 1 of the US version, I would say the British version is easily better. But I was one who liked the US version from the beginning, even though if the show had kept the tone of Season 1, it would never have become a big hit. Ironically, Season 1 is when the US Office was most trying to borrow the tone of the British version.

Season 2 of the US version was probably its best, and almost every episode knocks it out of the park. The US characters came into their own as separate people from the British versions, the supporting cast became real, and the US version really found its own voice. By the end of Season 2, I would have easily said that the US version was superior, just because there could be 20 episodes a year of such wonderful and hilarious television.

Season 3, in my opinion, was great, even if it didn't match the perfection of Season 2. They found ways to expand the world of the show, to flip the Jim/Pam dynamic around while still keeping it interesting, to bring in new characters, etc. I would still be comfortable calling the show better than, or as good as, the British version at this point.

Season 4 had several outstanding episodes, but now we have come full circle to the point where I would call the US show good, even great, but not as good as the original. The British version will always be its own self-contained world of 12 episodes plus a special, and there is a certain perfection and completeness in that (plus you can sit down and watch the whole thing on a rainy Sunday). I am a little disturbed at how broad the US version is now getting, relying too much on slapstick and unbelievable situations. Yeah yeah yeah, even my precious Season 2 had some episodes that were like that (Michael burning his foot on the George Foreman grill, Michael and Dwight's fight, etc). But where in Season 2 the over-the-top elements were the exception, it seems like in Season 4 they are becoming more and more the rule, and it's harder and harder to believe that we're actually watching real people in the real world. I still love the show, and will still keep watching it, but, my god, I popped the Season 2 DVDs in the other day, and I had forgotten how good the show actually was back then.

At this point, US Office is funnier...

    by neomyers

The UK Office is good and funny. It took me some time to get into its hyper-dry wit, but when I did it became great. But the US Office has become its own entity and transcended the British origin show. When your two main romantic leads are suffering trouble not from some gay triangle like other shows but from growing as people and wanting the best for each other you're getting into good territory. I still think that last year's finale (Goodbye, Toby) was the series best episode to date; it had everything: laughs, angst, drama, you name it.

The American Office has grown and matured into a completely different show than the British version and I feel it is better because of it.
