Transgender Ex-Receptionist To Compete On TOP MODEL!!
I am – Hercules!!
Contestants competing for “America’s Next Top Model” this autumn will include a 22-year-old former receptionist who sported a wiener in junior high.
It’s "an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television,” Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation president Neil Giuliano tells Us Magazine. "We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible."
Us shows us what she looks like here.

Thanks for telling us, man. I was waiting for news about "Next Top Model" all day long.
-
What the fuck is going on with this site lately.... fuck...
-
a dude to me.
swimsuit competition should be a blast this year...whos got the duct tape??? -
So, GLAD has no idea about stunt casting, do they? Speaking of which, if a dude becomes a chick then dates dudes, aren't they strait? Someone call the weiner police on this one.
-
We need more trannies on television.
-
Jerry and George would not be amused..
Dude still has man-hands and man-legs..
-
You stay classy, San Diego
-
If this were about serious business this person wouldn't even be considered. Models sell clothing, a tranny would undermine the product as a whole. Plus, imagine the reactions of guys who didn't know. It would be like the crying game all over again.
-
No matter who she/he is and whatever your opinion on gay/lesbian issues, the person is still ugly

I believe the word "tranny" is inappropriate, though
by caruso_stalker217
Like "midget." But it's fun to say.
-
...that I don't see the problem with a man-handed transgendered model. Most of them look like dudes anyway.
-
...is his name I believe.

But wait... Weren't both Jaslene and Dominique Transgendered?
by mr. profit
This isn't news. A Tranny already won this show a few seasons back.

I can't use ANTM now, it's ruined! I guess I'll use this JC Penny ladies underwear ad instead.
-
...that she has a surgically implanted baboon's uterus.
-
Yes...Yes they were.
-
I love ANTM. Watched every season since Season 2. I can't stand Tyra, however I convice myself I'm watching it for the model wannabees. This season will be tough if that shim is around for long.
-
Sorry, I don't care how "unenlightened" I am for thinking this, but trans-gender stuff gives my the heebie-jeebies.
-
Notice that in any news story covering a transvestite or transexual, they will focus on the one in a hundred of them that look acceptable as a member of the opposite sex. I watched some coverage the other day about a thin, slight, frail blond man who wanted to be a woman; he could actually pass as a decent one. But they showed some footage of him attending a transvestite support group, and the rest of the crowd was nightmare-inducing. Needless to say, the reporter didn't go into detail on any of the other tranny's lives... because they were all too ugly to be featured in an uplifting, feel-good news broadcast.
-
I have no problem with gay people, but to surgically-alter yourself to APPEAR to be a woman is pointless. If the plumbing doesn't work, and your chromosomes say XY, then you're a man. Deal with it.
-
Dateline just had a thing about a woman (yes, a natural born woman) with breasts and a vagina and all the features of a woman. Except she was born with XY chromosomes, and thus had testes where her ovaries should be. So technically, her plumbing didn't work, and her chromosomes say XX, but she's a woman.
-
Tyra for doing such an obvious sensationalized and base move...
Or GLAD for actually thinking this is being done as a sign of acceptance. Don't these folks realize they are being put here for the same reason the simple masses love watching "Cops", or laughing at midgets in the circus. People love a good freak show. Not only that but how silly is this really....just think about it; the tranny has to do some close up work and say a line, holding a perfume bottle lets say; Think of it..a wide shot....you notice the size 14 flippers as the camera zooms in for the close up...its 5 o'clock shadow as obvious as its xxl Rosie Greer sized mitts holding the bottle...he/she opens the mouth to say its sexy line...and out comes a Basso Profundo that would make James Earl Jones envious. Yeah...this is gonna happen. -
correction.
-
You posted this just to get back at us for the gay jokes.
-
Under the ruse of equal rights and social tolerance, this show's producers are just trying to create a freak show to garner ratings.
-
the reality is that it's much more complex than that. i have a hard time understanding it myself, but if you ever took the time to talk to someone who either is pre- or post-op transgender, you'd begin to see things from a different perspective. say what you will about your own issues with transgenderism, but Tyra and all the rest of them are still PEOPLE.

Isn't the point of the show to become a Supermodel?
by the winged doucheman
What reputable ad agency will book a tranny to shill their sexy product?
-
Fake tits and fabricated vag do not a woman make...will this dude get a seperate room...or will he be joining in the pillow and cat fights with the gals? Maybe they can volunteer to wax his back before the big shoot, or help him pre-lube for that big date with the clueless Italian they met at the restaurant?
-
Nothing was funnier to me than hearing Mizzzzzzzzzz J Alexander (that's the name, right?) talk about Dominique in his typical feminine voice and go "That's because Dominique (he transitions to gruff man-voice here) IS A DUUUUUUDE!" Funny as hell.
-
I guess it doesn't matter. Last year, they promoted "plus-sized" models -- who *surprisingly won (*cough cough). This year, they are promoting a he-she? I guess we already know who brainless Tyra Banks has chosen as the winner! There's no need to watch the show now (as if there was EVER a reason to watch that ridiculous show). A former professor once asked what it takes to be a runway model. One girl answered, "Breasts and breath." I guess now you longer need the breasts. I guess that is why Tyra is so popular. Her IQ of 83 is much higher than the rest of those in the industry. lol
-
This show is ridiculous. So instead of a struggling young hottie who actually has a shot at that Cover Girl contract, they put this guy on. What a damned farce.
-
My statements were in FAVOR of the transgendered. You're either confusing me for somebody else, or misread my comments.

but at least judging from the one photo I've seen of her, Isis is painfully skinny! That stated, thanks a fucking ton for posting this, Herc. Like you didn't know this would bring out all the homophobic closet cases to rant and rave....
-
I'm not afraid of homosexuals. I just have some beliefs that contradict those raised by homosexual activists. Hate me and mock me all you want, but these are legitimate concerns that are present in over 80% of Americans (according to a recent Gallup poll). That being said, I don't think that anyone should persecute a homosexual on the basis of who he/she likes to have sex with -- just like I don't think ANYONE should be persecuted. I just don't like others pushing their lifestyle in my face either. When I was a little boy, I went to Busch Gardens in Virginia. There were some homosexual groups attending. I had never seen men grabbing one another's crotches and private parts in public before. So I stared in bewilderment. One of those homosexuals approached me and said, "You like what you see, don't you? It is making your dick hard? Give in to your lust!" My 9 yr old response was that I had never seen two men so insecure with themselves that they wanted to parade their sex life in public so badly. I've never forgotten that. I wanted to puke. Today, I hear people call me "homophobic" and "intolerant." I try to explain that I have beliefs that are nurtured by my own educational, religious and moral upbringing. I try to explain that "tolerance" is a two-way street. Some militant homosexual advocacy groups promote a form of tolerance (that perhaps should be called "acceptance" instead) -- except when it comes to religious or moral views that differ from their own. It is truly a strange hypocrisy! I don't believe that people should persecute any people based upon anything that they do. That will be God's job. However, I really don't like the empty cliches spewed from those who simply are biased against anyone who doesn't agree with their own social beliefs and norms. Homophobic? Nah...I just don't personally believe in the lifestyle. Regardless of how right or how wrong, I still want to puke when I see two males trying to procreate in public.
-
it may be a shameless ploy to get people to watch the amazing lady man, but it really should be treated as a non issue. that poor girl will always be seen as the tranny from next top model, and not as the woman she wants to be seen as. on the other hand, she's a brave girl for going on such a big show and should be given props for that. anyway, on to the next stupid show then...
-
There have been successful TS models and actresses in the past. Not top-level supermodels, but some who had careers without the public ever knowing (or caring) that they were TS. One was even a minor Bond girl (in "For Your Eyes Only"). See "Transsexual Women's Successes" for a long list of TS women who've been welcomed by the world. http://tinyurl.com/a9zj5

being intolerant of intolerance is not a vice. You are lucky that your religious background and its beliefs just happen to be the dominant one in your culture. If you lived in, say, a Hindu nation and had to live under the thumb of Hindu belief and Indian social mores you might chafe a bit, yourself. Just a thought.

I'm a straight dude that lives in a predominantly gay area of San Diego. The rent is awesome and it's close to the beach and city.
The gay men you saw as a kid were stupid and immature. But being marginalized in a society that treats you as a freak can provoke a lot of angry feelings. Just like I get angry when my friends make fun of me because I'm still Christian. The problem is that you are seeing homosexuals as homos first and not people. How many do you interact with on a daily basis? One of my best friends is gay, and if you actually take the time to get to know them, their orientation stops being the thing that defines them and becomes just another aspect of their personality. Personally things like character and integrity are what attract me to the people I care about, not something really inconsequential like sex preference. And remember, the Bible only makes a couple of references to homosexuality in the old testament, but it also talks about Lot who fucked his daughters and many, many other depraved heterosexual moments. Then came along that JC dude and just told everyone to be excellent to each other. That is simple, makes sense, and allows me to live my life free of fear and intolerance. -
My ass anyone ever really said that to you. I'm guessing someone TOLD you of said event as though it really happened. Probably a parent. I don't believe for a second that happened the way you described.
-
My ass anyone ever really said that to you. I'm guessing someone TOLD you of said event as though it really happened. Probably a parent. I don't believe for a second that happened the way you described.
Not to mention your deep and meaningful 9 year old brain "understanding" that they were speaking from insecurity... please. -

I'm not afraid of heterosexuals. I just have some beliefs that contradict those raised by heterosexist patriarchs. Hate me and mock me all you want, but these are legitimate concerns that are present in over 20% of Americans (according to a recent Gallup poll).
I don't believe heterosexuals should be persecuted for believing that they are the only ones who have the right to have a 'public' sexual life, I just don't like others pushing their lifestyle in my face either.
When I was a little boy, I went to every single place on the face of the Earth. There were heterosexuals everywhere. I always see men and women walking around kissing, holding hands, with their procreated children, and being very dominantly sexual in public before. So I stared in bewilderment. One of those heterosexuals approached me and said, "You like what you see, don't you? You want to grow up to marry a woman and have 2.5 children and add to the over-populated world? Give in to heterosexism!"
My 9 yr old response was that I had always seen men and women flaunting they're compulsory heterosexuality in public. I've never forgotten that. I wanted to puke.
Today, I hear people call me "heterophobic" and "intolerant." I try to explain that I have beliefs that are nurtured by my own media induced bombardment, christian right-wing fanatics, and educational, upbringing. I try to explain that "tolerance" is a two-way street. Some militant heterosexuals promote a form of tolerance (that perhaps should be called "acceptance" instead) -- except when it comes to religious or moral views that differ from their own. It is truly a strange hypocrisy!

Heterophobic? Nah...I just don't personally believe in the lifestyle. Regardless of how right or how wrong, I still want to puke when I see a man and a woman trying to procreate in public, but then again it's EVERYWHERE! -

Gay and lesbians think they have it so tough in this society...to be transgendered must be harder, people don't even understand the term.

also, some guy walked up to a 9yr old and said give into your lust? Really? You're going with that one too?

...busch gardens is a great place to pick up 9 year olds.
my own comment, notwithstanding, this subject has been broached with surprising maturity on aintitcool today. i expected a LOT more slurs and idiot rhetoric.
especially considering this is a show that few on this website would watch or care about as it enters it's 11th season.
i don't understand the impulse to become transgendered, but i know someone that has gone through with the procedure, doesn't regret it, and seems more grounded and comfortable now.
i'd like to buy the world a coke, and keep it company!
-
Is she pre or post op? does "transgender" mean specifically either one?
-
"Tranny"? "It"? Are you so sure of what the universe holds, so sure of how science defines gender, so sure that you have all the answers that you have to demean and dehumanize someone who is breaking the norm? All of you that declare that if you cut this and sew that it doesn't change blah blah blah, go ahead geniuses... define sex and gender for us. And who the hell defined it for you? Your elementary school science teacher? Mister Rogers? Who told you gender is based on XY and XX? Why did you believe them? I'm asking you to examine what you know. You learned one thing back then. Guess what. We know it to be wrong today. Gender and gender identity are a mix, that we *don't* understand completely, of: physical sexual characteristics, hormonal profiles during fetal development, chromosomes, brain development, etc. YOU know only your own situation and the socio-normative one... XX=female w/vagina, XY=male w/penis. Just because YOU don't know all the variables and how they interact, doesn't mean you know shit.

is no longer human? You are born who you are, learn deal with it or talk to a psychologist. Trying to resolve your emotional issues via plastic surgery is not gonna help or change anything. You're not changing the car, you're just drawing attention to the fact that you're an idiot. This whole thing is as ridiculous as the "man" who had a baby. It's sensationalism and exploitation pure and simple, I'm surprised GLADD is backing it. And in the end, it really doesn't matter because it's on the CW.

Just like I thought, the hyper-liberals cannot tolerate someone who does not agree with their particualr social beliefs on moral, religious or personal grounds. There is no room for diversity in the Democratic Party. And yes, the story that I told was true. I was in the gift shop just outside of the DaVinci's Cradle ride at Busch Garden's in Williamsburg, VA. I didn't tell my dad that a guy spoke to me (as a child) like that -- because my dad would have made a big scene. I was actually hanging out with my friends, and they were as shocked as I was! Of course, the far left is willing to dismiss anyone who disagrees with the active promotion of their lifestyles as "homophobic" or "intolerant." This, of course, is at odds with the 85% of Americans who oppose homosexual marriage or the 75% who oppose open homosexuals to serve in the US military. I guess they just think that 75-85% of Americans are "intolerant homophobes." Nah. Some of us just think that it is unnatural or immoral based upon our own belief systems. Yet they will continue to attempt to justify such behavior (even in a "Biblical" sense by arguing that it was "approved" of in the Bible -- which is complete nonsense [read Romans chapter 1]). But now, I suppose, leftists will accuse me of being a fucking "Bible thumper." *sigh There is just no reasoning or rationalization with those on the far left, is there? I guess I just need to wait here for the ridicule and hate to start pouring in from the "tolerant" leftists.
-
...it is people like YOU who are the assholes. You know them -- that 15-25% who think that they are right and everyone else is wrong -- who feel that they are mentally superior to anyone who disagrees with their beliefs on anything. Sounds a lot like intolerance, huh? It is funny when one (or both) sides scream, "TOLERATE ME, YOU BIGOT!"
-
That's some imagination you have there.
-
Well I cannot use "big boy words" otherwise, I'll just confuse the masses.

That idea that a majority of Americans (or southerners for that matter) supported slavery is a myth. There weren't even 75% of southerners who supported slavery. Southerners seperated from the United States due to the issue of state rights. Only a handful of men were wealthy enough to own slaves. In fact, the bulk of African Americans (including myself) can trace their roots to about 125 of the largest agricultural plantations found in the deep south. You should read African Americans in the Colonial Era: From African Origins Through the American Revolution by Dr. Donald Wright. This is a standard History 101 textbook regarding the issue of slavery. It negates the myth that African Americans were willing participants in slavery, but it also debunks the myth that most southerners supported the industry of slavery. In fact, most southerners were largely opposed to slavery, refused to participate or simply lacked any sort of financial ability to "purchase" and "maintain" slave labor. In fact, following the Civil War, there was a "boom" of sorts in which the large plantations fell apart (because of their reliance on slavery) and fell into the laps of southern entrepreneurs who were able to provide similar products through paid labor. Anyway, the book is available online or in your local college bookstore!
-
It is exactly what I expected from narrow-minded individuals who cannot tolerate those with whom they disagree.
-
Wow. I expected he/she/it to have to be really attractive to have seriously made it onto a show called "America's Next Top Model"... but that's a man, baby. In the words of Mr. Garrison "so you're telling me I'm just a fag with a mutilated penis? Oh, goddammit!" Yup. Pretty much still true.
-
Oh I know coming out here is going to bite me on the ass next time I have a conflicting opinion in the Clone Wars talkback but here goes:
Some children are born believing that the opposite sex is the more "correct" way to live. It's physical, it's social. It's everything. It is not crossdressing or a fetish. It's a belief that you were born in the wrong body. Later regardless of whether you're attracted to men or women, you still feel like you're in the wrong body and wish to change that. Some of us live in our born gender and some of us get a sex change. Many of us commit suicide or live lives that are lies because were "pretending" to be the sex we're born as. And it's frustrating as hell when you're in a male body and you hate muscle and body hair and you're in bed with a gorgeous woman and as much as you want to please her and yourself, you would be much happier as the female (again regardless of whether you're attracted to men or women). You are literally a woman's brain in a man's body (my example). Laugh all you want but growing up I wanted identified with princess leia. I had to beg for her action figure from my mom who thought it strange. I loved She-Ra's transformation not He Mans. I played as Chun Li in street fighter though all the guys laughed at me. I'm a total fanboy and a transgendered woman. And one day when my transition is further along, maybe I'll get to sport a slave leia outfit. Hope this sorta helps but I know it's hard to wrap your brain around it. Just ask your wife or girlfriend how they would feel if they woke up as a man tomorrow morning. Their feelings pretty much echo what it's like for us every day. -
That was a very informative post. Thanks for sharing, know it wasn't easy.
-
ewwwww.
-
that was brave, and awesome. also, i owe some apologies to DocBosch. you're right, i was referring to a different talkbacker.

Believing that you're something you're clearly not...
by theghostwholurks
Is called delusional.I'm sorry for Hopewell1, but you guys aren't being "compassionate" or "enlightened" by feeding and buying into an obvious falsehood. You're merely being politically-correct... saying something for fear of being looked at negatively — in this case, being labeled as "homophobic." Just look at the responses toward Ccchhhrriissmm. In regards to ANTM, they've officially jumped the shark, if they're going to insult the contestants by proposing that a MAN can be a better female model than they are. Pretty sad way to try to boast ratings.
-
youre crazy and think you should be a girl is no reason to chop your dick of. It still doesnt make you a girl it just makes you a freak. Get some psychological help and learn to live with yourself. Just because science can do something it doesnt mean it should.

nice one, danny. but what if your doctor told you that instead of prescribing your proactiv?
-
I really, really appreciate the fact that you told your story so honestly and openly, but I have to say, I don't agree with what you're saying.
What you're describing sounds a lot to me like a pathology. It's not a preference (like homosexuality). You are inclined to do something or behave in a different way because of your compulsions to do so. There are a LOT of comparisons I could make to that, and many of them are very unfavorable. And ALL the comparisons I would make are examples to which almost anyone would recommend treatment and psychiatric help. I'm really not trying to drop magnum, but if someone was compelled to severely mutilate themselves, what would your response be? How about if they felt the need to mutilate other people?
The real shame (I believe) is that no one got you the help you needed when you were young in order to feel better about yourself and figure out why you felt the way you did. -
since when is a vagina a form of mutilation? and what transgendered person is this who's trying to carve vaginas into people?
-
Chhrriisssmmm
First of all, no one was laughing at you because of your views. Instead, we were laughing at you because of your absurd "experience". You're obviously an idiot, and I would be my life not one word of that "story" was true.
You don't got to lie to kick it...
Playkins:
Good point -
I didn't try to come at you from a left wing nut job angle. I'm a Christian and have struggled to reconcile what has been taught to me and what I feel is not a sin. Can love between two consenting adults of the same sex ever be an evil thing? My brain says no. It's love. It's the universal constant among the human race that inspires us to be better. But Chrisssm, can't you love the sinner and not the sin? (I don't believe it's a sin, but that is the phrase that a lot of catholics throw around).
-
From your perspective that this is a pathology, I am appreciative for your sympathy. Because I hear a lot of "no sane guy would cut his dick off". And in some ways that true that a typical male would not want to lose his genitalia because he likes being a male. But I love who I am as a person, I just don't feel the body matches the mind. Being able to start hormones and get a sex change requires extensive counseling, psychological testing, and mental exploration. This isn't easy to arrive to and I question it ALL the time. I wish I wasn't transgendered. That I was either born a female or didn't have these beliefs. Does that sound like a choice? Because it's hard to believe anyone would do this unless life was too hard to live the other way. And it is. As a masters level therapist myself (MFT in California) I know that this is considered a disorder in as much as it's listed in the DSM. And I also know there is not a pill in all of psychiatry that cures transgendered people. If I could live a normal life I would have. But this path feels right. I already tried the other path for 32 years and it wasn't working. I'm happier this way.
-
Anyone that is requesting sex-reassignment surgery has to go under a rigorous, years-long series of psychological evaluations and therapy. Teams of doctors and psychologists approve the final "yes" or "no." Not only that, but they must all live for at least a year as the gender they desire without the aid of hormones or plastic surgery. In simpler terms - those who want it are willing to go to hell and back to get it. It ain't a fetish.
-
Jinx!
-
An off-the-cuff answer for an off-the-cuff remark: Cutting your junk off ISN'T mutilation?
Getting back to what I was REALLY saying, it was an extreme example, NOT intended to be an analogy. Read it through a little more carefully. I was trying to compare something that a lot of people make a distinction to. -
uh. not if you don't identify as male.
thanks for the advice though. -
I can appreciate what you're saying when you put it that way, hanks for explaining that. I won't say that I agree, because I don't. But I definitely can have empathy for what you're saying.
-
I was talking about hopewell1, who identified herself as a male-to-female trans-gendered person.
-
about having sex? I didn't, get your mind out of the gutter.
My past isn't anyone else's business, it's between myself and God. And no one sitting in their computer chair drinking soda and eating cheese doodles, has any right to define me.
Besides, if it's good enough for the medical community, and it's good enough for the government (it is illegal for me to marry a woman now anyhow), why would you care? Afraid you might be tricked into having a conversation with me, as if I was a real human being? Afraid that you might miss an opportunity to punch me in the face?
This talkback shows why I will never ever discuss this in person with ANYONE. -
Let's see, cant run a legit movie review (that everyone else is running) so instead we get this report of a mental defective who wanted his dick taken off.
Seems like this site has had its dick and balls removed as well. Keep up the great work guys. -

"I'm a Christian and have struggled to reconcile what has been taught to me and what I feel is not a sin. Can love between two consenting adults of the same sex ever be an evil thing? My brain says no. It's love."As a Christian myself, this sounds extremely contradictory to me. What's sinful or not isn't dependent on what people believe is wrong, but what GOD says is wrong. Based on your logic, if I FELT that consenting adult incest between a brother and sister wasn't "an evil thing", then it'd be perfectly fine, because "my brain says no."If you crack open your Bible, you'll see that 99% of the time, God/Jesus spends his time telling his creation that they CAN'T trust what their brains or hearts are telling them, because they're "natural" instincts tend to be sinful, corrupt and contrary to God's desires.

I really hate the fact that people choose internet forums to exercise their Id. It really shows how some people act if they risk no accountability, and a lot of times it's really sad. My favorite moments on these forums is when you get past someone's front and find the person.

I agree. There's a reason I don't play on-line games anymore. The racism and sexism and homophobia that comes out of gamers that you probably would have a decent conversation with in person at the local game stop is frightening. I don't take to heart a lot of the comments on talkback because I think most of the time people are just trying to make a joke at someone's expense and I doubt they even return to read the responses.

Considering that "Top Model" news really ISN'T something AICN tends to offer, if someone was cynical he might suspect that Harry and crew are starting to slap up threads with the specific intention of drawing in bigots to inflame debate that (if its going to be informed) needs some context AICN most definitely isn't providing. There's a difference in letting debate flow around a subject AICN would already cover versus finding a story in an area this site usually ignores just because that story will get a lot of hits once it becomes a battle between free-flowing bigotry and the posters who oppose it. In the former, AICN may see some bigotry around a subject as an unfortunate side-effect of open debate about a topic relevant to the site; in the latter case, however, AICN might be accused of actually courting bigotry (not saying that they agree with it, but that they are needlessly providing a forum for it that they wouldn't otherwise normally provide). If, on the other hand, AICN has decided that it wants to be a place where talkbacks are specifically geared to heated social debates like this, then how about going all the way and just posting opposing articles about transgenderism and the like, so at least there'll be something of substance to base the debate upon, instead of hiding exploitation for thread hits in a cloak of sudden interest in something like "Top Model"?

Is why people care. Don't want a sex-change? Don't have one. Hate gay people? Move to Iran, homosexuality is illegal there.
Why do the people minding their own business have to change? -
"What's sinful or not isn't dependent on what people believe is wrong, but what GOD says is wrong."
I appreciate this view, but I can't agree that it is that clear-cut. If you take your Bible at face value, God says that you shouldn't kill, and to turn the other cheek, but that there is a time and a place for the "an eye for an eye" type response, the death penalty, and God's chosen people were supported in military conflict. There is an element of interpretation and therefore choice in most things. One of the main sources quoted against homosexuality and cross-dressing is the book of Leviticus, which also talks about issues of ritual purity, unclean animals not to be eaten (pork, shellfish), segregation of women having their period, kosher preparation of meat, prohibiting animal cross-breeding, fabrics made of more than one material. Most of these have been discarded under the excuse that they are no longer applicable since the Messiah. Choices are made every day even with biblical strictures. -
While it's true that restrictions regarding ritual purity, the eating of certain foods and others were discarded by Christ in the New Testament — since they were no longer needed to "isolate" the Jewish nation once Jesus opened salvation to ALL mankind — the laws regarding sexual sins, murder and many others remained in place. In fact, next to adultery, homosexual behavior is the most frequently condemned sexual sin in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments... far more than incest and beastiality. And very few people would openly claim that the latter two behaviors are acceptable (yet).Homosexuality may have become acceptable behavior in much of today's society, but to claim that it's NOT considered sinful by God throughout the Bible is a pretty weak argument to back up.

...because you seem like a decent enough guy in general, but all you guys bringing up God and Christ and the Bible can go fuck yourselves. "Ooooo, the invisible man in the sky said this and that, so we all have to behave in such and such manner or else he'll wave his magic wand and then we won't get to go bounce on clouds when we die" That has about as much importance and weight in the real world as debating over how a light saber actually works. But you know what, that's just what I think, and I'm alright with you choosing to believe in all of that anyway. Just don't act like everybody else in the world needs to also follow those rules or teaching or whatever religious fan fiction you choose to derive from it. Counter-points in a discussions are always needed, but when you bring religion into a debate as some kind of hard proof, your argument might as well be "because I said so!" Impossible to back up and pointless to argue against. And please, can we also refrain from bringing up psychology or therapy again, since it directly conflicts with what L. Ron Hubbard has taught us about how the world REALLY works.
-
A somewhat reasonable discussion about stuff in an AICN talkback. God forbid.

I hope this poor guy has some people who love him and will get him the psychiatric help he needs. Every transgender individual ends up needing professional psychological help, and the mental instability only gets worse post operation. There are good reasons why only quacks perform the surgery.

"Homophobia" is one of those loaded words that skirts logic and prevents any meaningful discourse. Yes, I studied pop-psychology under Oprah and feel free to diagnose strangers with an irrational fear of gays based on single negative comments. E.g., "You're not looking forward to Valkyrie? What are you, HOMOPHOBIC?"
-
Didn't say that God changed his point of view. Wouldn't venture an opinion on that. Main point was twofold - a lot of moral choices you make can be informed by several elements of the Bible, which might be seen to be advising alternate responses and your interpretation (e.g. what qualifies as "bad" killing, theft, adultery etc); secondly that no-one has seen fit to take out the bits in the Bible which consensus suggests don't apply anymore, and that the decision-making process as to which bits you should ignore is vague. There is no definitive list in the bible of "these bits have been superceded". Likewise, it is taken as read that we don't follow OT practices of polygamy etc followed by some key figures. I know there is nothing much documented by Jesus in the Bible on the matter of sexual conduct (people infer a lot from his treatment of Mary Magdelene and adulteresses at risk of stoning and his presence at the wedding at Cana, but that's all highly speculative). I do know that St Paul re-iterated the OT position on homosexuality, and that he did not re-iterate some of the other associated elements (from which you can infer exactly nothing about the continued applicability of the rest), but that he also condemned long hair in men and short hair in women pretty vehemently too (again, definition of "long" and "short" not clear). I do know that the Bible is not much help with regards to defining what gender is, as there was no science other than "common sense" (which does vary widely between places and times), so modern examples where someone ostensibly female is genetically male in their chromosomes (or a XXY mixture), or for those cases where birth deformities make gender unclear. I'm not going to veer into a discussion of the literality or not of the bible as that gets you nowhere with literalists; merely suggest that a lot of these things aren't as clearly covered as selective quotation and broad interpretation suggest (and vise versa as you point out) . Is being a transgendered lingerie model model any more sinful in the eyes of God than being a lingerie model period? Depends which human you talk to. My main issue is with the glee some people taking in damning some people to hell, but not others, on sometimes flimsy grounds, or for cultural, not theological reason. Still, it's only a TV program.
-
it seems like the criteria most of you use to determine whether a person is a woman or not is "would i have sex with it" which makes you not only transphobic but raving misogynists as well.
-
that I'm an atheist. Basing your beliefs on the oral traditions--heavily edited and conveniently altered at that--of a nomadic people just isn't rational. If you want to base your arguments on logical thought, fine. But please leave your religion's dogma out of it.
-
Ccchhhrrriiisssm - I agree. I'm not afraid of homosexuals, they just really creep me out and because of that, I'd obviously not want to be around them. I've been called a homophobe for it. Come Thanksgiving/Christmas, I turn down pumpkin pie because I don't care for it...no one calls me a pumpkin pie-ophobe. When someone calls me that, I feel it's a lot like back when you were kids and your friend dared you to go into "Old Lady Wilson's" or whomever's yard. If you say no because you don't want to get in trouble, he calls you a chicken and says you must just be afraid of it. I feel that slapping a label like "Homophobe" on someone is an action designed to produce a defensive response, and immediately make the person being labelled feel badly for being "intolerant" or "hateful."
Sir Loin - A lot of people see homosexuals as gays first and people second because that's how a LOT of gays/lesbians present themselves. That's how a lot of them seem to want to BE seen. They are the only minority group that are a minority by choice. -

by moravagine
that's shit. gays present themselves as "gays" no more than straights present themselves as "straights." the only reason their sexuality garners more attention is because it isn't the norm in our society. go ahead and count how many straight couples you see kissing in public today then do the same for gays. do that and get back to us.
-
on this show look like men anyway. I always like how they kick off the "plus size" girls (usually one who is 5'6" and weighs 110 lb) after one or two shows, when they're the ones that actually look like women, not 13 year old boys or extras from a holocaust movie. Tyra Banks would probably get kicked off for being too big if she was a contestant.
-
I dunno... Present myself as straight... Should I get a "Straight Pride" flag and fly it on my house? What does a straight pride flag look like? Would flying one make me "homophobic," because I was subconsciously flying it only to announce that I'm not gay and am afraid of being perceived as such? Hmmm... How many straight couples you see kissing in public today? Not many, actually. Now go check out the photos of the Folsom Street Fair. No, not many straight people kissing in public there, either. Some other public activities, though. There's actually a lot to be said here on the subject... or you can just throw out the "homophobic" canard and shut down the discussion.
-
because no one is giving them shit on a day to day basis and they don't need to show people they're proud of themselves despite of it.
-
gays never get shit. that's why they're afforded basic human decencies like the right to get married, huh?
-
it's pretty fucking interesting to see what constitutes as hate speech on this site and what doesn't.
-
I know Talkback can be a cesspool but the outpouring of hate here has become almost too much to bear. My brother was attacked by a tire iron by someone that used the defense he wasn't a homophobe, he just didn't want those people around the park. They "creep him out" and thought he was "being immoral" by holding hands. My brother, and his partner at the time, are the least "flaming" gay you will ever meet. A lot of white people present themselves as white and straight first because that's how they want to be perceived. Kissing and holding hands in public while playing soft rock our country music on their radio at the beach. They don't get their butts kicked or spit at. Blacks do, Hispanics do, Gays do. Like any minority they have a pride movement, like blacks, hispanics, asians, etc. (Don't expect any replies from me, I'm going on a day trip. Just had to chime in here.)
-
Your 100% correct. This is being done for rating and people will tune in to watch the freak show and to laugh at this train wreck er ... tranny. I agree with those who have no problem with gay people but who believe that anybody who is born into a gender and wants to have surgery to try and look like a member of the opposite sex has serious mental issues.
-
She IS the great glam chick!
-
Hmmm, so some of you fellows don't like the word "homophobic," eh? Not surprising. I'll just bet you don't like the words "misogynistic" or "racist" either--most likely for similar reasons.Homphobia exists whether you "hate" the word or not. Sure, you may not specifically be homophobic yourself, but the fact that you're writing angry post after angry post on how gay folks outrage and disgust you would indicate otherwise. Have you ever deigned to establish a friendship or rapport with someone you know is openly gay? If not, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I have a lot of gay friends, and they're just like you and me in practically every way. In my experience, homophobes belong to one of two groups:A. Children, teenagers or really immature adults of like mind.B. Closet cases who are disgusted with their own, secret sexual impulses. Here's hoping you guys belong to A and not B.Oh, and Chrrrissssmmm: you're argument (i.e., two gay men allegedly groping each other and telling you to "give into your lust") is fallacious. If, for instance, I was robbed and beaten by a black man, does that mean that all black men are criminals? Of course not. One of the surest signs of homophobia is the ludicrous idea that gay folks are out to "convert" straight folks. It belies an unconscious desire in YOU--not in openly gay people. Personally, I've never known one gay guy (and invariably homophobes are worried about gay men, not women) who tried to "recruit" a (supposedly) straight guy. Grow up.

Sounded like different people with different viewpoints having a discussion to me. But I guess disagreement with PC equals "hate" (see the enlightened "full retard" topic for more on PC).

by iowa snot client
Um, yeah. Only they don't call me a "homophobe" any time I dare (er, deign) to express an opinion different from theirs. My barber's gay, my old babysitter was gay, my ex from college is gay, two cousins are gay, a bunch of old classmates... I'm steeped in gayness. Do we all have to approve of everything the other does to get along? No... we're individuals and adults. Not "'phobes."
-
Ah, PC... such a catch all accusation. This isn't about hate speech--this is about immaturity and fear. Some of you are expressing disgust with gay men (and, yes, you're erroneously lumping the transgendered in for good measure). I admit I was of like mind when I was younger (in my mid twenties and before). I threw around words like disgusting and unnatural. Then I actually started getting to know (and working with) individuals who were openly gay and realized that they were just like everyone else. No one was pushing their sexual orientation on me. No one was trying to recruit me. They were just people who preferred sexual and romantic engagements with their own sex. Some were cool; some were assholes. Just like everyone else. And I realized that they deserved respect for their choice of mate just as much as I deserve respect for my choice of mate. And that's cool. I'm not word-Nazi. I don't get riled at any group of people getting some well-deserved ribbing. But when guys come on here expressing their disgust (i.e., fear) of something they no little or nothing about other than what the tube shows them, I feel the need to speak out.
-
I say if she looks good on a dress, and wants to be called "she", why not humor her? sure, you might go on your rant about being born, and nature, and all that, but who gives a shit? it makes no difference to you, and she'll be happy. why be an asshole about it?
-
...she's a chick...with a dick? I do not understand? What bathroom does it use when it goes to Disneyworld?
-
So what do you dislike about all of your gay friends and acquaintances? Do you care who they love or have sex with? Why are you getting so riled up about this? You do realize that homophobia is real, don't you? And you do realize that the folks expressing disgust for gay men (yes, men) are perpetuating hatred and disrespect for their (yes, THEIR) choice? Just because you don't like the word homophobic doesn't mean its not all around you.
-
Totally.
-
She's painfully skinny. I know there are some much better looking transgendered folks out there.
-
Sorry, but no one with testosterone should be watching this show, "hot" models or not. This is the queerest, girliest show on television. It makes Gilmore Girls look like a PBS hunting show.
-
And the fact that you had to invoke the invisible sky-wizard (God) to back up your point proves you're kind of an ignorant dickweed.
If you did any amount of studying, you'd learn that there are, indeed, some recognized physical, genetic indicators of heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality.
But of course, you think we're all made by the Christian equivalent of the Tooth Fairy, so I'm guessing genetics and science in general are a bit out of your depth. -
he would've given us wings (so don't you dare fly on planes). If god wanted that sick child to live, he wouldn't have given her pneumonia (so don't dare give her those antibiotics). Seriously: what makes you so confident that it's a choice and not a natural predisposition? One thing's for sure: very few would voluntarily choose to identify as a member of the opposite sex if they had any choice in the matter. You think they're simply insane or just want attention? If you knew any transgendered folks well (or lived a day as one of them) I doubt you'd feel that way.

No, I don't. That's my criticism, with the word, not the people. "Phobia" is a clinical term used by psychologists to diagnose a particular neurosis. That's why I'm riled up... because it's a bogus term (like "hate crime") created to forestall intelligent discourse by assuming the state of mind of another person. In my mind, everyone is free to be as gay as they wanna be. But if someone has, say, religious beliefs (I'm atheist myself) that homosexual behavior is wrong, is it accurate to attribute (and thus dismiss) that belief to "phobia?" In my world, people are free to "express their disgust" nonviolently. My problem is that words like "disgust," "immaturity" and "fear" are attributed too easily to a lot of perfectly peaceful, rational people who don't deserve it, and people ought to be free to talk without being "diagnosed."
-
My favorite part of this thread is the "Cutting off your dick doesn't make you a woman! Christ, what kind of man does that?" Uh, a man who really feels like a woman and so doesn't value a dick at all? Maybe they're not crazy...maybe you're just stupid.
-
Saying you're "creeped out" by something is another way of saying you're afraid of it. So saying, "I'm not homophobic, but gay people creep me out" is basically admitting you're scared of gay people. Which is kind of sad, because they are just human beings who have different brain chemistry (yes, that's scientifically proven...not that any of you bible-quoting morons believe in science, yet another reason why the good ole' USA is going down the toilet...)

Homophobia does not ONLY mean you are afraid of homosexuals
by gregburnscds
Jesus you guys are dumb:
HOMOPHOBIA: "unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality."
For those of you who still do not understand: "prejudice against (fear or dislike of) homosexual people and homosexuality".
Thus homophobia does not imply that you are afraid of homosexuals, it means you are prejudice against or dislike them. So, homophobia is the PROPER term to attribute to a lot of people in this thread, especially that CCCHHRRIISSMMM dude. -
hate bait. Nice job, Herc. Way to feed the assholes. This is almost as fucking stupid as Massa's Sex and the City review. Bread and fucking circuses.
-
Just admit it already and quit trying to twist your words around so you don't look bad.
-
...those 75-80% are most likely homophobic, because your personal religious foundation has taught you to be such. Just because it's in the Bible doesn't mean it's not problematic to many of us.
However, I take far more offense at you stereotyping the Left. Not everybody agrees with everything, and for you to lump us all into one big group with all the exact some beliefs is just insulting. I am tolerant of your RIGHT to have your beliefs and would never use force to make you change your mind, but I also think it's important for EVERYBODY (including myself) to constantly challenge one's own beliefs. And I do believe that if you really take a look at what caused you to want to "puke," as well as the a la carte approach many take to the Bible, that you could maybe reevaluate your effect on this country. -
However, the term "unnatural" and "immoral" really does set off alarms, because 50 years ago it was "unnatural" and "immortal" to have interracial sex. Are none of your beliefs grounded in a past of religiousness, whether through yourself, your community or your parents?
-
How is it at all rational to harbor feelings of ill will and/or mistrust towards an individual who has done NOTHING to you personally? This isn't even a matter of straight/gay! Isis is a fucking WOMAN. She identifies female and has the parts to go with the identification! Is John Wayne Bobbit not a man because he has an artificial penis? This shit is ridiculous. And let me ask you this, Iowa Snot Client: how many people who have a problem with homosexuality and/or transgender issues base their arguments on rational discourse? If your religion insists that homosexuality is morally wrong, aren't you AFRAID of it? It's in our instincts to fear what we feel is wrong. You don't have to cower in a fucking corner or make the sign of the cross at something to be afraid of it. Phobia is perfectly applicable. And for the record, I don't think homophobephobia is any better. Getting pissed off at someone because they have an irrational fear of something isn't any better than having that fear. Let's all just agree to disagree, how 'bout that?
-
the truly offensive thing about this development: that it's being marketed. It shouldn't be a big news item that a transgender is attempting to become a "top model". Transgender women are... wait for it... WOMEN. So why should it be pointed out that Isis is competing? "Hey, a girl is trying to be pretty." Holy shit! Really??? That's amazing! If you actually forget that Isis was born a man, she's unfortunately the stereotypical model. Skinny as shit and faux-intense. In that respect, she's business as usual for the model game.
-
i don't know about anyone else, but i never filled out an application, or made a choice. i guess i'm not surprised how many ignorant, hate-filled people are in these talkbacks, but on the OTHER hand, i'm happy to see more than a few sane, intelligent, compassionate people, too.
-
How do you feel about the Iraqi people, the French or the right wing American Christians, just to name a few? Do you harbor no feelings of ill will or mistrust toward those who have probably done nothing to you personally?
And no, I'm not trying to start anything. -
Your argument seems to be that this would be a "peaceful, rational" TB were it not for those judgmental bastards like myself. Ah, if only the reasonable folks like CCCHHRRIISSMMM and Cletus Van Damme could be unchallenged to communicate their harmless, disgust and "creeped out" feelings toward gay men. "In my world, people are free to 'express their disgust' nonviolently."Well that's just swell. It's too bad, though, that in the REAL world we all live in (i.e., not the imaginary one in your head) people sometimes DO "express their disgust" QUITE violently.Hell, for myself I personally "disagree" with homosexuality in that I'm not attracted romantically or sexually to men. But it doesn't follow that it's ok for me to express how I'm "disgusted" or "creeped out" by gay men as if such feelings are rational or sane in any way. BTW, one of my good friends and colleagues was intentionally hit by a car about a year and a half ago by a young contractor who was yelling "bitch" and a "fag" at him in the Circle K parking lot just prior to the crime. My friend almost died of his injuries, and the perpetrator is now convicted of the crime and in prison. Don't you fucking try to tell me homophobia doesn't exist. And before you continue using your high-road freedom of speech rhetoric, please do a little research on the topic, bud. Hell, just reread this TB. And stop arguing semantics with us. Fear and hatred always go hand in hand.
-
I feel bad for the Iraqi people because most of them are poor as dirt and many of them have lost family in a war. I'm not fond of the oil sheiks in the region because they're taking advantage of the lower class and they manipulate the oil market. But then, I don't like the American oil companies who collude with them. I don't feel anything at all towards the French, good or ill. They have a reputation for rudeness towards Americans, but since I've never been to France I can't confirm nor deny that reputation. I know a French girl studying film here and she's pretty cool, so I guess that counts as a positive experience. And I fully admit feelings of mistrust towards right wing American Christians because they HAVE affected me personally. The vote to ban gay marriage is forwarded by right wing American Christians. Two of my best friends are gay. Their right to equal marital laws is being subjugated. That affects me personally. I wrote a short screenplay for a grad school contest that involved a lot of sexuality and some demon worship. One of the reasons I didn't win (and this was told to me point-blank by one of the judges) was that a few of the judges were Christian and were offended by the content. Nothing to do with the quality of the script. Right-wing Christian Americans have a LOT more influence on public policy than homosexuals, and public policy obviously affects me.
-
As long as you're aware that not all right wing American Christians are the same, and not all have an anti-homosexual stance.
And as somebody who was an exchange student in France in high school, let me tell you that the Parisians can, in fact, be rude, but the rest of the country's population is as nice as can be. Still, from my own experiences, the European countries with the nicest people are Ireland and Italy. -
Yeah, it's a fucking choice. An acne scarred 15 year old kid sits in his room and thinks to himself - "you know, it's high school. You can play connect the dots on my face, the girl I like doesn't like me and makes out with my best friend and I get weggies everyday. How about I choose to be gay and invite even more nonstop harassments and ass-kicking into my life."
-
One of my two brothers is Born-Again and he's a good dude. He's not in favor of homosexuality and gay guys kissing in public does freak him out, but he's acknowledged many times that it's an irrational thing. It's a weird attitude. He kind of shrugs and says, "Live your life however you want. Sorry you're going to hell." He kind of treats me the same way. "Too bad you haven't accepted Jesus as your savior. That's okay, though. I won't say I told you so when you're in hell."

The only way you can hope to be a model is to either be extremely emaciated, or have a weenie.

as has been said MANY times, if it were a choice, do you really think that someone would CHOSE to be persecuted, called out and have their 'rights' debated? -
this is like 3 stories in as many days that you guys get from him...don't ask how I know...

I never thought this many people (let alone anyone not named Tyra) cared about America's Next Top Model

A minority of people are able to tolerate the ambiguous or non-normative in their surroundings and experiences. However, a majority of people feel the need to have much more control (or the illusion thereof) over their environment, because they equate control (or the illusion thereof) with safety and predictability. For a significant portion of this majority, being faced with ambiguity or non-normative behavior defies their mental ability to process information, and their heads figuratively explode when they encounter such "anomalies" (for truly, the ambiguous and non-normative is the rule and not the exception in human behavior). When you take this intellectual knowledge into the real world and use it to examine the issue of intolerance towards a variety of minorities, you find that while the world is far from perfect, the radical minority of folks who respond aggressively to violations of the norm continues to be pushed out to the periphery of polite society. As they're not allowed to pass themselves off as harmless, these folks will end up where they belong, at the bottom of the chain of societal evolution along with the rest of the bigoted non-normative pariahs whose beliefs impinge on the basic rights of others. All of which is to say that it's kind of funny that people put so much time and effort into freaking out over people who are different from them, and more so because the people doing the freaking out are the ones who will inevitably be seen as the real freaks.

Your post just made MY head explode, figuratively-speaking. But I agree... I guess. If you said what I think you said, that is. If you actually said anything at all. I'll read it again.

As a fellow Ear with Feet, I salute you.

...so let me explain a few things. I hope this is the final plea for reason. This post is not ment for supporters, and it's not ment for the mindlessly, venomously hateful. It's ment as a calm rebuttal aimed at the quiet ones sitting on the fence without an opinion.
Genetic mapping has all but proven that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered is *not* a choice. But science carries no weight with willfully ignorant fundamentalists who still desperately cling to creationism.
Transgendered women like myself are even more complex. Many of us (like myself) have messed-up chromosones, which either neither XX or XY, but in fact XXY. The disconnect occures early in the fetus, when the mind develops as female, then a disruption in the mother's system causes a purge that dramatically alters the body.
Interesting facts under current study. 1.) Areas sprayed with high levels of pesticides later generate an abnormally high number of transgender children. 2.) Transsexual women on average have an I.Q. at least 20 points higher than an average cissexual man or cissexual woman. It is not a mark of superiority. It is an indicator that something more far-reaching is occurring in the brain outside of gender identity or sexual orientation.
It isn't a 'lifestyle' You can no more 'not be transgender' or 'not be gay' than you could use force of will to 'not be diabetic', or 'not be manic-depressive'. You have no choice but to take insulin, whether you like it or not. You have no choice but to take medication, whether you like it or not. And you have no choice but to convert your physical gender, whether you like it or not.
Two out of three transgender women attempt suicide by the age of 30. One out of three is successful. My first attempt was at twelve, after living a childhood filled with religious condemnation over constantly trying to dress as a girl and play with dolls. Puberty hit, the reality sunk in, and so I swallowed every pill in the house before passing out and throwing up. The anger and crushing despair every day of my life were too much to bear. I had to transition. You can no more imagine what it's like to have a sick feeling of panic and depression every time you are forced to look at your penis then you could imagine being manic. It's called gender identity disorder for a reason.
I would never willingly deceive a man about who I am, but any woman who suffers violence because of that is no different from someone getting assaulted for being 'discovered' to be jewish.
Any problems you may have are in your own bigoted mind, which is typical of all fundamentalist thinking; fear what you do not understand, hate anything different from you. The trully evil part of it all is that Christians do it under the false guise of 'love'.
I apologize for the grammar...I've been up for 30 hours caring for a hospice patient. Just one of the many things us 'immoral, sinful 'it' creatures' do.
