Unless Seth is going to play the EVIL comic book geek. Yes! He's the guy that goes to the store, reads the entire book, and puts it back. He's the one that convinces your mom that Spiderman #1 is worth $20 in mint condition, but he'll give her $15 because of the plastic covering.

    All Of Lost is Great

    by crow3711

And it will be better in retrospect when it's all over. Heroes is childish drivel written for the widest possible appeal, especially teenage girls and man-babies. Everything cool in the show is what they don't show, and what they do show is always laughable. Seth Green is kind of a douche anyway. Don't even compare the worst episode of Lost (Fire+Water) to any episode of Heroes, let alone a whole season.

    SOUNDS GREAT!

But, yes, Heroes is a sinking ship. As horrible as Lost S2 was, there were some pretty awesome moments in it: Eko's episodes, Desmond, the introduction of Dharma. Lost S2 introduced a wider mythology for the show.

Heroes S2 was complete and utter shit.

It's the worst sophomore season of any show I've ever seen. And that followed the worst season finale I'd ever seen, too.

I'll give S3 the benefit of the doubt, cuz I hate shitting on stuff I haven't actually seen yet, but the Universal Death Reset Button(x2, mind you) and Mohindar getting super strength don't sound too promising.

All you haters of Heroes S2 would be well-served to go back and watch Lost S2 up to 2x11, then legitimately tell me whether ending at 2x11 would have been a good pay-off to S2. Heroes WAS cut in half, it was meant to be a 22 ep season. They had to cut it off early, which few shows can pull off.

Lost fanboys are ridiculous. There's a few who will admit it has faults, but like it anyway - and they're cool. But you get some real cretins who have this misguided notion that Lost can do no wrong. It can and does. Remember Kevin Smith's LOTR rant from Clerks II? That is Lost. They walk towards something, there's a flashback, they walk back from something. Then in the finale something huge happens, and it takes them almost an entire season to get back to it.

    Heroes Season 2 vs Lost

    by laughing irishman

I couldn't stomach Lost...period. I really tried to watch it. I thought the first episode was good, and then, IMO, it was lame.

I didn't watch Heroes until midway through season 2, then I got the season 1 DVD from a friend who's really into the show. I loved it and don't understand all of the hate.

    Reply to Talkback

  • Hahaha... what. the .. FUCK? I don't think Lost season 2 was much worse than the first season. And even if there was a dip in quality, it still is nowhere near the huge drop that Heroes took with its shitty season 1 finale, and most of the episodes of season 2. I mean seriously... Lost season 2 had some truly great moments. The reveal of Desmond in the first episode... Orientation... The Other 48 Days... Mr. Eko and The 23rd Psalm episode, Henry Gale's story arc, Maternity Leave, Lockdown and that crazy map on the hatch door, Two for the Road which had one of the biggest WTF moments on the series, ?, and the season finale. The only portion of Lost that I truly felt there was a huge dip in quality was during the first 6 episodes of season 3, and even those aren't too bad if you're watching the series on DVD.
I don't even remember many truly great parts of Heroes season 2. All I can remember is Peter's shitty amnesia/Ireland storyline, Hiro stuck in Ancient Japan for way too long, the flying douchebag boyfriend, fucking telemundo twins, killing off the phasing dude with some bullshit and the blood spray hitting nikki from the opposite direction in the closeup of her face, the pointless K-Ville storyline, and Peter acting like a total gullible moron most of the time and stupidly using his powers.
Actually, only good stuff I remember from s2 heroes now that I think about it, is Parkman's Dad "The Nightmare Man" when he was first introduced (they quickly made him shitty), Kristen Bell, Midas Bob was alright, and pretty much anything with HRG and The Hatian.
I'll watch Heroes season 3 though... this whole "Villains" thing has me intrigued. Hope they do it well.

    Peter's use of his powers

    by mr. zeddemore

How hard is it to understand? They are based in the emotion of the situation. When he wants to escape, he can Phase; when he gets shot, his body instinctively heals; when he wants to find out where he belongs and what the future holds, he time-travels; when he wants to open a safe, he uses Telekinesis. It is not difficult to understand, really. His powers are rooted in the emotions and nature of the situation, he can't call them up at a seconds notion unless he has a valid reason to use them.

Now that I actually recall the season a bit more I think it was probably the best season so far. It started off with the greatest opening ever 'Make your own kind of music', gave us the tailies, Mr Ecko, Desmond, and Ben Linus, and ended with Clandy Brown and Desmond sharing screen time in a pretty fucked up scenario, the world almost coming to an end, and the main Losties being led away by Linus with sacks over their heads. Actually watching Lost season marathons

    by leopold scotch

makes the show BETTER. A lot of the "they-don't-reveal-enough" bullshit goes out the window when you can say "ok, we didn't learn much about anything in that episode but lets just stick on the next one".When Hurley "broke his curse" with the Dharma van, it was a total tangeant of an episode, but it was really great just to see some of the characters sitting around together again playing off each other (Sawyer, Jin and Hurley). Episodes like that make you appreciate the strength of the characters in the show, which is something a lot of my anti-Lost friends don't recognise. And you appreciate them more when you don't have to wait a week for the next one. The acting is a million times better than most shows I watch as well. It's funny that a lot of Lost haters and Heroes fans focus on the destination rather than the journey, because a lot of Heroes (with its lack of a decent budget which could do it justice) is ALL about the destination, as it teases us with five seconds of kickass material every couple of shows and then fails to deliver much more come finale week. I consider myself a Heroes fan too, but - looking back - even some of the quality of season one can be attributed to the writers keeping our eyes on the horizon for an amazing confrontation. When you rewatch the season with the knowledge that it doesn't happen, there are only a couple of really great episodes.

I was with you on Lost characters to the end of S1, and then they decided the characters weren't interesting enough unless they all had daddy issues. The destruction of Sun is especially cloying - how can we be sympathetic to her when she cheats on Jin (on AND off Island), is partially responsible for a death and completely responsible for another death... lies, and basically treats Jin like crap. It harms her S1 character, where we're meant to feel sorry for her that Jin's become this complete bastard... but now, it seems Jin WAS the better person of the two. That's my main problem with Lost, they've ruined one of the best couples on TV by going overboard in terms of giving them drama to wade through.

I can only speak for myself, but I still care about the characters. Especially Hiro, guy gets his heart broken TWICE. He can travel through time and space, but succeeds only in creating the man who helped found The Company and went on to kill his Father. But still, he fights on and refuses to become a murderer. That's how you evolve a character - his core values haven't changed, even though he's seen a lot of bad shit. The character's changed, but retained his S1 self.

    Seth Green's awesome

    by iforgotabout19

People will rag on anything. I gave up on internet society the day people started hounding Stan Lee. Anyhow: Although every season of Lost is better than Heroes, Lost still wastes a SHITLOAD of time. The flashbacks are a completely ridiculous device almost every time they are used (Flashforwards are okay.) Season 2 of Heroes had good concepts (The 2nd generation having to clean up after the 1st generation's mess, Sylar turning Maya loco, dystopian future, and so on) It faltered majorly in its first like 5 episodes, which is a shame since it had so much potential by the end of season 1. However, season 1 faltered majorly for the first half too, and then started getting good. Starting with "Out Of Time" Heroes S2 picked up speed in a big way, and by the end of the shittiest season of television ever, I was still (and am still) totally excited for Season 3. Heroes has its problems, but a lot of them stem from the fact that it's a slow-burn show. Lost for me became genius only in this last season when they dropped the flashbacks. Give Heroes time. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. et cetera.

    by iforgotabout19

Is Brian K. Vaughan. Since he's taken, they need to find the next best comic book writer available. Maybe Mark Millar or Bendis. Or Frank Miller! Heroes would be a better show in black and white with hints of GREEN and PURPLE only.

First of all. When did Sun ever cheat on Jin ON the island? We find out in a 2 minute webisode that she shared one kiss with Michael at a time when Jin was beng an abusive controlling ass. Give her a break. And yes, she had an affair off the island at a time when she thought Jin was mudering people for her father, which granted she was responsible for, but partly becasue she was trying to protect Jin from his cunt mother and preserve his reputation. Sun has made mistakes, yes, but so has Jin, and I think ultimately Sun will redeem herself by either avenging Jin's death or rescuing him if Bentham told her he was alive, by conning Widmore.

Stop making excuses for peters stupidity

    by anakinsdiapers

Powers based on emotions? Please. There has been no evidence whatsoever to support that notion. The problem is Peter and Hiro don't have powers, they have plot devices. In order to keep the story moving and contained, the writers have to have the both of them act very stupid. Peter trusting Adam so completely that it wouldn't occur to him to read his mind for the truth just doesn't ring true. Peter spends ten minutes pulling prying the vault open with telekinesis instead of just walking him and Adam thru it was simply to serve the plot: if they walked thru the vault they wouldn't have confronted Hiro and Nathan. Hiro keeps running into lame moral/fate/destiny reasons why he "can't" save peoples lives by changing the furure simply because the writers have to find ways to de-claw him. Apparently, it would require too much talent to come up with an imaginative way to make Hiro wary of using time travel to reverse death. Wouldn't it have been cool if, instead of dragging the season on with slow moving subplots that could have had simpler resolutions, time was spent showing Hiro "the Butterfly effect"? Then you could tone him down without it seeming contrived. We've already seen "a" future Hiro. What about several Hiro's from different times, coming together to shepherd young Hiro? There is soooo much one could do with Hiro, it just requires some fucking thought. As for Peter? Give him a fucking limit on how many powers he can have at one time. If he's reached his limit he has to swap out. Then you can write stories without peter having brainfarts all the time.

yeah seriously, I don't buy that emotions bullshit

    by turketron

Especially after reading that the reason that Peter used TK on the door instead of walking through it generally boils down to *cuz it looked cooler*. Apparently the writers wanted the door to represent a monster that Peter had to take down or some shit. This apparently comes from the episode commentary, where they say they, "thought of the door -- with all its metal arms and shiny nobs and bulk -- as a monster, and wanted Peter to take care of it like he would a monster. The drirector had three great shots of the door busting open and he thought they would be more comic book like and add to the tension and action." Right... so lets make him a dumbass who forgot he could walk through walls to get that accomplished!
I got that little bit about the episode commentary from a msg board, but haven't confirmed it. Sounds truthful enough though. Here's where I first saw it discussed: http://tinyurl.com/67jaq2That's all well and good that they wanted to make it more "comic booky" but at least write a reason why he couldn't just phase through it... like have Adam tell him that he can't use that power (Peter is following everything he says at that point anyway). Aggh...

Empathic Mimicry (courtesy of Heroes Wiki)

(Empathy is the ability to "connect" with other people on a mental level. Empathic mimicry is an effect of this power that allows for the duplication of the superhuman abilities of other evolved humans.)

    OZ!

    by oisin5199

Lost vs. Heroes, blah blah blah, contrived plot devices, powers. Yeah, Heroes is mostly poorly written convenient coincidences and macguffins. I think the observations about Peter and Hiro are on the money. The whole thing is contrived. And Jeph Loeb has written some shit episodes and some shit comics: Red Hulk, Ultimates 3, to name a few. But...OZ! Maybe a scene with Veronica Mars and OZ, please? That's all I'm saying.

    Zeddemore - Heroes' Good Parts

"How about seeing Peter and Nathan explode in mid-air? Noah getting shot and blood SPURTING out of his eye... Claire cutting off her fricking toe... Peter and Matt's telepathy battle...How about seeing Peter and Nathan explode in mid-air? Noah getting shot and blood SPURTING out of his eye... Claire cutting off her fricking toe... Peter and Matt's telepathy battle... the scene in Ireland where Peter uses Telekinesis, Super Strength and Spontaneous Regeneration in the span of thirty seconds."

According to your choices, you're enthralled by blood and lots of 'splosions. Do us a favor: pop in Vin Diesel's xXx DVD's and keep yourself occupied for a couple hours so the grownups can talk.

and yet, Peter tried reading Matts mind purposefully. And yet, he turned invisiable at will several times. And yet, everything he did vs Sylar was at will and purposefully. And yet, future Peter, who was shown to be "more bad-ass" used his powers at will and tactically. There are a wealth of moments on the show where peter acted consciously in the use of his powers. What you are doing is taking a well worn cliche of any beginning characters exploration of new found power, the "instinctual" or "stumble-factor", and trying to turn it into some established mantra when it's just lazy writing.

ps, i'm not a heroes hater. I enjoyed Season 1, but Season 2 was full of too much shit for me to enjoy it properly. Still going to give Season 3 a shot after a promising Season 3 opener.

and when i think about it further

    by anakinsdiapers

it amazes me that in your zest to defend the lazy writing you are attempting to portray peter like an animal. He's not. he's a thinking human being. He knows exactly what's in his arsenal. Unless, of course, you are trying to say peter doesn't have access to any powers he doesn't "instinctually" use. But we both know that's bullshit.

    Seth Green IS cool

    by alex wilder

Well, at least from when I met him at the Comic Con. He's a really nice, friendly dude. And "funny" is subjective so I won't argue with you on that, JackDonkey.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the appeal of Heroes?

    by thedarklinglord

Maybe I just really wanted it to follow in the footsteps of Shyamalan's Unbreakable instead of being another shitty wannabe X-Men like Mutant X.

...is not as utilized as concepts from michel foucault, jeremy bentham, plato's philosopher king, stanley kubrick, kurt vonnegut and immanuel kant...

the watchmen, not only having little influence on the show, is also subject to the above influences.

i'll admit it, lost season 2, i became a lost hater

    by mr_x

father forgive me, i ragged on lost, it had become boring, there were obvious continuity errors, i was looking for answers and none were given. heroes was new and flashy like scientology, it seemed to be the cool thing all other kids were into it, i was dazzled by the bright lights and the promise of something huge, only to be throughly disappointed. but once again i saw the light and shall never sway. im a born again lostie. lost rules! see penny with her tits out in tell me you love me.

    No defending season 2.

    by homer sexual

I loved season 1 of Heroes, even the finale. But season 2 was weak in pretty much every way. I don't recall anything good happening, and everything listed here, most of which I remember, was crappy. God, Hayden's boyfriend, Peter in Ireland, Hero in ancient Japan...all wack!

But I couldn't get into Lost at all, quit after 2 episodes. Just not for me, no offense to Lost lovers.
