AICN & Twitch Present International Eye Candy: R246 STORY, ASHES OF TIME, SSD, BAJO LA SAL or BENEATH THE SALT, and more!!
International Eye Candy
August 6, 2008
Yes, boys and girls, it is once again Todd from Twitch here with a new edition of International Eye Candy. And what is the big news of the past two weeks? How about ONG BAK star Tony Jaa having a total meltdown. And how melty was he? How about going and hiding in a cave for two months when he should have been directing the end of ONG BAK 2? No? Not melty enough? How about coming home and crying on national TV? No? How about going to the local police station to complain that he’s being followed by a car full of guys in safari suits? This, my friends, is how you go about sabotaging your own career. But enough of that … on with the eye candy! Up this week, Brazilian zombies! Russian slashers! Mexican serial killers! Ultraman times eight! Japanese dream detectives! Alien rock-outs! And a cute, fuzzy bunny!
(I’m lying about the bunny but the rest of the stuff is in there.)
Let’s start with the alien rock and roll, shall we? The project is R246 STORY, a Japanese anthology project that I’ve been all over since it includes just the second ever directorial effort by Japanese mega star Tadanobu Asano, who you probably know from Takashi Miike’s ICHI THE KILLER. But it gets better. Asano’s bit is written by Shinji Aoyama – a brilliant director in his own right who deserves a much larger global following than he has – and in it must engage in a guitar duel with space aliens to reclaim the drum kit that is the source of his power. It goes without saying that the power is awesome.
Rock out Japanese-alien style here
And here’s a heart-warming slice of family life from the UK, where apparently kidnapping young women and stuffing them into suitcases is an integral part of saying how much you care. Because MUM AND DAD really do care. It’s just that they don’t care about very nice things. Nope, they’re kind of nasty. Okay, really nasty. Okay, pretty brutal. Just don’t tell them I said so.
Check the trailer and think how good your family looks by comparison
And now for something about as different as is humanly possible. Wong Kar Wai’s ASHES OF TIME has long been one of the Hong Kong director’s most sought after films, mostly because it’s never existed in any remotely presentable form. Not until now, anyway. WKW is a notorious reviser of his own work, constantly fiddling with the edits, so it didn’t come as a huge shock when he announced that he was re-editing his only martial arts film for a new release but, surprise or no, it was a pleasing announcement. And now the new version has come and with it a new trailer that already looks about a zillion times better than any of the currently available DVD editions of this thing.
Look at the pretty pictures here
You know, sometimes I like to make sure that the films in this column flow smoothly from one to the next, organizing things to follow patterns and trends and such. And sometimes I just like to write about movies featuring kids getting shot through the head with an arrow. Guess what kind of day today is?
The film is SSD, the aforementioned Russian slasher, and while it looks like a pretty stock teens-in-the-woods story it also looks pretty exceptionally well done. I’ve written about it in this column before but there’s a brand new full length trailer to check out now.
Duck and cover, people. Duck and cover.
And, once again, on to something completely different.
I’m biased as hell on this one, having brought GENIUS PARTY BEYOND to Toronto for its second-ever screening outside of Japan a couple months back, but this animated anthology is one of the most aptly titled films ever. It is, indeed, genius. Studio 4C have collected the best and brightest of the Japanese animation world and turned them loose to create whatever their hearts desire and the results are spectacular. My personal favorite is the closer – titled DIMENSION BOMB – but there aint a dud to be found. The new trailer shows them all off to great effect.
Blow your mind here.
Though the rise of Mexican film hasn’t hit quite as hard as people expected with the arrival of Gael Garcia Bernal, Alejandro Innaritu and Guillermo Del Toro the wave continues to rise and the latest to catch the eye is upcoming serial killer thriller BAJO LA SAL or BENEATH THE SALT. You guessed it … preserved corpses turn up in a salt mine and the early buzz is already comparing it to SE7EN. Really impressive on the tech end and the cast is dead solid.
You can get digging here.
So … BEYOND THE GRAVE … serial killer movie set in a post apocalyptic world over run by zombies, or a zombie film that also happens to feature a serial killer? Your call. It’s fresh from Brazil, where a major genre boom is just gearing up, and while the budget limitations are evident the creature effects are great and the design of the world – lifted straight from the pages of 1950s, primary colored comic books – is a blast.
Have a splattery time here
I kind of doubt that there’s a whole lot of actual history in new Korean historical epic THE DIVINE WEAPON but there are a shitload of exploding arrows. And I like exploding arrows. The story? Chinese army of the threshold, superior weaponry needed to hold off the superior numbers, blah blah blah. Good cast, great production design, exploding arrows. That’s what you really need to know.
Blow stuff up here
Not quite sure how this one snuck up on me but Spanish maverick director Alex de la Iglesia – he of ACCIONE MUTANTE and DAY OF THE BEAST fame – has been working away in Spain on a new scifi sitcom due to start airing in September. Titled PLUTON VERBENERO there’s no trailer yet but there is an extensive behind the scenes reel that shows of his sets and design work and it’s looking like pretty vintage stuff.
Check it out here
Quick! Name the last truly great possession film! Personally, I’m pretty hard pressed to come up with one newer than THE EXORCIST. But that may be about to change with the imminent arrival of DOROTHY MILLS. The buzz on this one is building steadily and with a release in France just around the corner trailers and clips are starting to leak out so that we can see why. One trailer, four clips, to be precise, and this is creepy, unsettling stuff.
Lights down, volume up.
And we enter the home stretch with the latest by a true cult icon: TETSUO THE IRON MAN’s Shinya Tsukamoto. The new film is the second entry in his NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE franchise with Ryuhei Matsuda reprising his role as the reluctant – to the point of being suicidal – supernatural detective who can insert himself into people’s dreams. I’ve seen this one and while it’s more philosophical than the first it’s also really gooooooooood. But don’t take my word for it, there’s a brand new English subtitled trailer out there.
Enter your dreams here
How do you top a legend? By bringing EIGHT legends, baby! Get ready for rubber suited glory, it’s the trailer for the new ULTRAMAN movie which features not just ONE Ultraman but every distinct Ultraman from the run of the series, all eight of them with most (if not all) of the original cast brought back to don the suits. And why would you need eight Ultraman? Because you’ve got one seriously bad-assed man-in-suit rubber monster to battle, why else? This, friends, is how you do a legendary franchise right.
Say it with me: Man in suit! Man in suit!

and Dorothy Mills is pretty damn good as I'e heard.
-
Soon I can retire my dear old VHS version. Actually, from the reviews that came out of Cannes it sounds like this REDUX isn't that different after all. Just a few trims and some new music.
-
and Beyond the Grave looks like it was made by a bunch of hobos who found an old camera in the garbage. Every movie looked pretty interesting to me though.
-
is something wrong with the ST3/Rogue talkback? I have been trying to post on it earlier today and it hasn't worked, nor has anyone else posted. Is something just fucked up on my side or is everyone having that problem? Oh and if that TB is totaled for some reason, I vote we all move here and give the foreign films that little extra boost.
-
...year work project I started seriously fantasizing about faking my own death and running away...I even browsed a couple of those books on how to use loopholes to create a second legal identity...I would have JUMPED at two months alone in a cave...
-
Was blown away by "The Guardian/Protector," the first of his films I saw. I hope he hasn't lost his mind.
-
About Tony Jaa, I dunno, I get the feeling he cracked under the pressure of directing Ong Bak 2 went away (like we all feel like doing at ceartain times) and now hes back, hes got some bad suits in control of him, lawers and agents and shit, filling his head with money and how hes been getting taken advantage of, which is probly bullshit.
-
Yeah Man It's been that way since like 7 my time yesterday. I agree with you, these articles never get enough attention.
-
NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE, the first one? I didn't like it at all, I just thought it was lame and other then the sounds the never scene monster mad, it was not creepy at all.

Ashes of Time and Fallen Angels remastered
by Itto Ogami loses Daigoro
yes please.
-
sounded interesting but looked dissapointing sadly.
-
Long after CGI is dead and buried, men in rubber suits will still be around, kicking rubber monster ass. <p> Life is good.
-
first waltz is with bert the bear
-
Just so y'all know.
-
FUCK. THAT. <p> Can we all agree not to turn the soon-to-be posted obit into a Scientology fuckfest? I'm all for bashing Hubbard worshippers, but only when they're alive. Please.
-
Wonder if there will be a new South Park just for this... Darth Chef Memorial Show.
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
since the last five posts are basically concerning another article posted on AICN, I figured I should post something else about this article. So freakin excited to finally see Ashes of Time.
-
The copy I had looked like dirt though. I'm excited to get this in a dvd format hopefully that has a nice clean print and maybe even a bluray release? The film is a great one, but it may have been too overpraised at this point to really hit the mark for many. It's well worth seeing though. <P> Around the same time, another film based off the same story was made, called Eagle Shooting Hero. It's worth seeing too, but so silly and ridiculous. Night and day difference from Ashes of Time. <P> I liked Nightmare Detective, but felt it was a bit of a slog.
-
do I have to carry this thing to the top myself?
-
anybody got a recommendation?
-
Plenty of foreign stuff to discuss. I'll try to ease the transition on our other front.
-
put Ultraman on hold, and put the Shaw Brothers Super Inframan at the top of the list. It's a mad, mad movie from the 70s involving an Ultraman-esque warrior, Inframan who battles the monstrous forces of Princess Dragon Mom, and does all this with a somewhat noticeable rip in the crotch of his designer costume(unintentional, not intentional..I think). Either way, its a fine piece of madness.
-
Is it just me, or does it seem like the current state of horror is mainly in the hands of foreign directors. And when said directors come over here, they are commisioned to do some doofy remake or franchise, or their film is turned into a dull american clone. <P> Count me in for Dorothy. I even liked that recent Emily Rose movie, and the other foreign film based on the same material, Requiem. Both seperate approaches to the story, both worth seeing I thought.
-
there's a very good reason for that trend. When you think of horror coming from America at the moment it just seems to be an endless stream of Torture Porn, whereas mexicans, spaniards etc are doing other things.
-
Whatever happened to Marc Caro's Dante 01, and how do I go about seeing it?
-
It had an ending that referenced Ultraman, and cheesy low-budget shows of it's ilk.
-
OK, let's get this baby in the top TBs. And I've never been keen on horror movies save for the well made Stephen King stuff and campy Raimi and Romero movies, but the American horror movie industry is indeed dire. The Saw and Hostel stuff just isn't entertaining on any level.
-
looks and sounds promising. Again, mexican/spanish filmmaking seems to really be heating up lately, particularly in these darker genre efforts. Anyone here see The Cold Hour? It's a nifty little sci-fi, horror film.
-
hah! 6 - 3
-
Lets just start at the beginning..Nosferatu. To this day, still a creepy, evocative movie that I think captures the nature and tragedy of the vampire existence better than any other film I've seen on the subject, save for perhaps Herzog's take on it.
-
the TB hops right onto the top list
-
Most American studio heads still see the slasher/torture flick as a money maker.<p> The movies like the ones above seem to be more hit and miss, as the casual filmgoer wants to see Hostel, not The Exorcist.<p> Studios will follow the money, which usually means milking a genre dry and then moving on.<p> The foreign directors are seeing this and can get by with smaller budgets and more original stories to focus on a smaller and more specific audience.
-
Has everyone seen this, the foreign version, not the english one? <P> If not, it's definitely worth a viewing. It's a strange, disturbing flick involving a man who has a fight with his girlfriend/wife and they are on a road trip. They stop at a rest stop and she disappears. At the same time, we are made privy to her abductor and his actions from almost the beginning. He is a family man who, after saving a child from drowning/or being hit or something, realizes he also has the capacity to do not only very brave things, bot something very terrible. <p> The man who loses his wife starts getting letters from the abductor, and eventually he begins to follow the path his girl took, hoping he has the courage to arrive at the final destination.
-
I was getting the first post out of the way and BAM!<p> I was lookinf for you this weekend, but my internet provider decided to cut off North Mississippi for almost the entire weekend.<p> The good news is I got some yard work done.<p> We had temps in the high eighties, as comapred to heat index of 110 last Saturday.

How did I miss the Ultraman and exploding arrows
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
stuff earlier? Ultraman was a staple for me as a kid. It was rare that a Godzilla movie aired on the 7 or 8 TV stations we got in the late 70s, but Ultraman was on TBS everyday for a while there. That and Starblazers. I would run off the schoolbus and make a beeline to the TV to watch them. Best hour of TV ever as a kid.
-
I've seen both and frankly don't bother with the American one. They gelded it. The same goes for Diabolique. <P>Jarv's movie weekend was very strange, but here are my thoughts anyway: <P>Sin City. I don;t know why I fet a need to watch this. But I honestly quite like it. <P>Die Hard 4 (Thank you Lovefilm. Not only do I own this, but does it sound remotely like "Streets of Fire")- Always loses me with surfing the fighter jet. And Timothy Olyphant just doesn't strike me as a badass. When he screams "You don't know me and have no idea what I'm capable of", my first thought is always something snide about his designer black shirt. <P>Princess Bride- epic <P>Bound- hmm, well.... I still think it's the best Wachowski film. <P>Child's Play 2- less said about that the better. <P>It was a strange mix.
-
When I was akid - it was the first live action Japanese show I ever saw. It came on right after Speed Racer. I was deliriously happy! I will definitely get the Ultar 8
-
I would love to see that, as that makes the point that even the best do-gooders have to have an evil side.<p> Just as you can't have good without evil, good people sometimes do bad things just to realize how good they can be most of the time.<p>

The original version of Tha Vanishing creeped me out
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
Saw it many years ago and late night cable I think. I still think the American version is one of the better remakes.
-
Don't understand the hate for that one. Rutger Hauer, Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, Carla Gugino and Mickey Roarke in one of his best roles ever. Gold I tells ya.
-
Good morning people. What the fuck happened to this Clone Wars review? How long was it up?
-
Doomsday becaise Pillow and Jarv talekd so much about it. It was ok. Some good killing, but ultimately it just seemed too much of a mess to really hold together. Before I heard about Issac Hayes, I had planned to watch EFNY - because that is an obvious influence on D-Day. So, I put that on, and watched it for first time in about ten years. It holds up well, but, and I know this is sacrilege, Snake Plissken is not a top 5 badass. I mean, he can take anyone one-on-one. But after two of three get on him, he folds. Ok, he had an arrow in his leg, but Tony Jass - at least prior to his meltdown, would have laughed that shit off. Still, Plissken gets the job done. How about ranking Kurts badassness? His movies, and his ranking among others screen badassess?
-
I consider Rodriguez to be one of the worst directors of all time. The cast is good indeed but there is so much worthless crap as filler. Clive's entire storyline for example. What the fuck was up with Michael Clark Duncan? I can't stand Rodriguez's cheap as original score. Someone needs to tell this guy he is an even worse composer than he is a director of photography.
-
You are slacking dude.
-
of Vanishing because it completely annihilated the villain. He was played by Jeff Bridges as a dirty, stringy sneering lunatic, and not as the otherwise completely normal man who decides to attempt evil that was in the original. One of the creepiest parts was where he is playing with his children and getting them to scream, so he can see how far screams carry at his house, and whether neighbors would notice screams. Also, the ending was a complete destruction of the original's point, and the coffee joke at the film's end was almost offensively wrong-headed. <P> Chitty, have you seen the movie?
-
I liked that shovel in the mouth bit...
-
I read it last night - before it was taken down. This was a bizarre weekend. The locked TB. The mass bannings. The mass crying over the mass bannings. The flame wars. The Mods getting into it. Former writers ripping into AICN - ala mirajeff- which is still the gold standard of writers meltdown. Remember his his last line - were he promised to come back even 'stronger'? That was the worst of all - "Remember This writer is a fighter". I still get chills over that!
-
What mods got into it? And how did Mirajeff return? As a Talk-backer?
-
2LDK is something of a dark comedy/horror from Japan that involves two aspiring actresses who get an apartment together(the 2 bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen of the title, or something like that) and over the course of a few days learn that they loathe each other, and as they destroy each other's lives, they come to a showdown one night that involves, sais, chainsaws, the porcelain back of the toilet seat, drills and using household equipment as a makeshift taser. It's both humorous and intense. I recommend it.
-
it's got a sort of Mancini-esque tone to it. Kind of Reminds me of Peter Gunn. <P>Doomsday is a mess, but what a mess! It's better with beer, but I do understand that most won't like it. <P>
-
I actually rather liked the film. I've only seen it once, but it's a good atmospheric and occasionally unsettling story that provides a darker riff on the themes of Dreamscape(incidentally one of my fave B movies). I'm looking forward to ND2. Anyone else see Nightmare Detective. That would be a good one to send HOD, if you have it.
-
That's all Tarantino. You could see Death Proof was going to be an aborted foetus of a movie from his contribution to Sin City. <P>I still love The first story the best, and that Cast is epic
-
He had a meltdown awhile ago when he originally left....Toad said he was ripping into AICN recently. Where, I don't know.
-
and it was not dissimilar to Uncapie's recent one. <P>I don't get why AICN does "Scriptgirl". Is it a pointless attempt to get some tits into the site? Kind of like the midolgirl fiasco.
-

I think Frank Miller is grotesquely overrated....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...and the Sin City source material isn't good to begin with. Its uninspired and cardboard cutout of what you would expect from that sort of story. Its okay....The Spirit will destroy Miller's career and I won't have to hear about that cunt anymore.
-
Uncapie ripped into Harry, and Mori responded. I just read that this morning on the 'retard' TB. <p>Jonah, Mirajeff lost if about two months ago. I forget the thread. He came back as a regular TB'er, and just ripped into Mori, who ripped right back. Then it got pathetic. Mira would not or could not stop blathering, and revealing himself to be a very, insecure child. It was humiliating, but funny as hell!
-
What happened? Anyone know? I missed it for some reason and every time I ask....no one wants to give it up.
-
I quite agree, that performance from Bridges in the Vanishing was one of the shittiest one note psycho performances I've ever seen. While not the worst remake ever, it certainly was not good.
-
many of the foreign films, but I love takes on how the nicest people sometimes have a side to them that is a total opposite.<p> Robin Williams usually plays those types lately as in One Hour Photo.
-
are all those posts deleted now?
-
another suggestion to all: <P> Onibaba. More of a supernatural drama, but it involves two female killers during samurai era who seduce traveling warriors, and then kill them to survive during wartime. Eventually, one of the women in jealousy dons the demon mask of a samurai they killed, and finds the mask cannot be removed. It's a great film.
-
Later gents.
-
Bruce was ok - but getting shot some many times and not dying? was the guy using a pellet gun?
-
this is the order: <P>Mirajeff got beat down by Dr. Boll- to the amusement of TB'ers everywhere. <P>Mirajeff submits review of Postal stoned. AICN turns down review. <P>Mirajeff doesn't submit anything else for 1 year. <P>Mirajeff threatens ME with physical violence. <P>Mirajeff loses black box for above sins. <P>Mirajeff pitches up in next TB to bitch about AICN <p>Mori slaps him down<P>Mirajeff screams, throws toys out of pram and generally behaves like the cunt we know he is.
-
If you have netflix or anything comparable, put The Vanishing(only the foreign version) on your queue. It's an amazing film, and I think based on your comment above will be riveted by it.
-
Jarv may be right, it could have been longer than two months ago. I think that is when I read it, but it a have been old evn then. But the posts are still around. Just have to search for them. And I do not remember the thread they were on.
-
seriously, watch it. <P>And then please explain the end to me- it's creepy as fuck but I totally lost what was happening by then.
-
but Im going to make an uncharacteristic bet on the odds that Merrick is the next to meltdown.
-
I put this TB on the top myself last night. It was on the bottom of the top, but it was still on that list on the side. Woot woot. Go Hustla, go Hustla.
-
I did not know you were involved with the whole Mirajeff fiasco. Do you have the thread?
-
the original one. I'm not sure if that counts as either a ghost story or a Horror film. More supernatural psychodrama.
-
It'll be another contributor- Merrick's snide persona prohibits that. My money's on Herc.
-
The first 2/3 was cool.....but then it had that embarrassingly bad scene with a parade of ghosts walking down the street. Thats the movie right? Fuck me were those effects horrible. They looked like ghost effect on Are You Afraid of the Dark?
-
Remember that shit on the Indy TB? awwww fuck....I was actually giggling at work, biting my tongue not to laugh out loud when everyone attacked him on his kid's ADD. Hilarious.
-
and I agree with you about the last 3rd of the eye- as soon as they went to Thailand it took a nosedive.
-
What about Takashi Miike's Dead or alive? It's a crime drama through most of the film, but all of the sudden at the end guys are pulling bazookas out of nowhere and ripping their own arms off and throwing energy balls (ow whatever) at each other Dragonball style! And can anyone tell me the guy's name that throws the energy ball at the end? I think he's the host of all the kids in Battle Royale 2 as well. The guy has made some of the craziest faces at a camera ever in cinema history.
-
So it's quite difficult to find him.
-
on Nickelodeon. That show was fucking bad ass....and talk about deserving a DVD release!! Come on!!
-
I've just found some of AnimalStructure's undeleted posts. Yuck.
-
The original is no longer availble on Netflicks I think. I remember enjoying the re-make but I was like real young at the time. I do remember Bridges not being that scary, I thought Keifer should've been the bad guy, kind of funny they do the other roles much better. See Arlington Road or Blown Away for Bridges (Blown Away fucking great movie, Tommy Lee as a bad guy!) as the man trying to save his family. Watch anything else with Kiefer to see him play bad. Though Jeff should be a good bad guy, but for some reason he's not. If he really did suck in Vanishing, that should explain why he was sooooo terrible in Iron Man.
-
Save The Green Planet! That whole movie is nuts, but man (SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT).....in the end when it turns out he was right! Fucking nuts.
-
Uncapie's breakdown yesterday was funny but it didn't have the back and forth that Mira's and Mori's had.<p>I don't know what to say, I loved the Mickey Rourke story in Sin City. It salvaged the entire movie for me.<p>I don't think Harry's review was up for more than an hour last night.
-
He's there, and he threatens me about half way down. I'm in tears of laughter reading it now: <P>http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/35448#comment_1874177

Someone just posted Harrys review over on the retard TB
by toadkillerdog
Read it fast
-
Phone Booth. Awesome. I really like that little gem.
-
So did the big hollywood execs ask him to pull it or something? It's funny because I don't usually trust Harry's reviews all that much, but I think his heart is really in the right place for Star Wars. He's a true fan and he only want best for the series. His review really made that clear.<p>And anybody else find kind of fucking hilarious that Harry had just posted an article on free speech right before pulling his own fucking review of a movie?
-
...what the fuck? He looks like he is 12.
-
Do you have the thread where Mirajeff breasdown? Danny would love to read that
-
Article was dumb. I fucking hate bleeding heart liberals. My mom is a special ed teacher for like 20 plus years now and she says all that stuff is bull shit and doesn't really matter. Plus there are already so many bills and stuff that protect the right of metally handicaped people anyway. She said those peoples time and money would be much better spent donating it directly to schools and working with schools. Fucking hollywood.
-
I saw your horse spunk comment about Michael Savage on the Retard TB. I would advise you not to repeat that statement again unless you want to witness THE RETURN OF EQUUS (HORSE FUCKER)!!
-
what dont you understand jarv? There is alot in that movie that can be explained, but easier if dealt with in specifics. What about end confused you? For the record, it confused me too, initially.
-
I'm halfway through Chocolate, I thought I could get through it last night but I fell asleep. Not a knock on the movie...I just worked too hard this weekend.
-
Not trying to bring back our favorite horse fellatiast.<p>Thanks, Jarv, that Mirajeff TB never gets old.
-
Equus is exactly what this TB needs right now!! Our numbers will fly through the cieling if he were to return!!
-
korean ghost film binge, but the last 10 minutes of To2S was just mindbogglingly confusing. <P>It's not fair to talk about it here, though as others haven't seen it. If we get the go-ahead- so other users, can we spoil the end?
-
But I just watched the original Get Carter last night. While I enjoyed the remake for what it was, I think its because I can't ever not enjoy a Sly movie. But having seen I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which pretty much is the same movie. And now I know what sort of film the Payback director was trying to make. I feel like Clive Owen is trying to be the new Micheal Caine. Just he can't pull bad ass off as well. <P> Get Carter fits into the Lost Jarv world of England where everybody is a well ard gangster lad who hit women and eat hulu hoops. Also everything seems a little gehttoish, whilst all the while eveyone is still polite and have a good sense of humor. Overall I really wasn't that surprised to see Cain beat people up, I thought I would be because he's always the nice elderly man now. But kind of like Freeman cussing or Denzel being a bad guy, it wasn't as shocking as critics make it out to be. Good movie, wish they used more of the bad ass sountrack they had.
-
I have no problem hearing the end of T2S.
-
Kloipy needs to get an office, stat.
-
But it's interesting to see Massawyrm's article with "sucked as bad as the prequels" WHICH HE LIKED. <P>I'm outta here. See you tomorrow and then that's it.
-
I caught the end of Training Day last night. I forgot how much Ethan gets slapped around and then hurls himself on Denzel's car. Damn.
-
And sci-fi was playing the first two Saw movies last night. I've never seen any of them before, and what I did see, I'm certainly glad I never did. Those movies are definitely not up my alley.
-
hmph. I'm so offended by that. <P>The Orginal Get Carter is a masterpiece- and the score is magnificent. THe DIrector's other film of note is Flash Gordon, and it's hard to think of 2 more contrasting films.
-
Too much controversy going on. I dunno if we can take the #1 spot anytime soon. FUCK FUCK FUCK.
-
Perhaps part of their master plan to get traffic up?
-

Jarv.....a more contrasting direct = ANG LEE
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, Crouching Tiger, Hulk, and Brokeback. HOLY SHIT!!
-
Some are saying the whole retard controversy is a marketing scheme by Paramount to get asses in seats. Fuck conspiracies!! Why does everyone have an agenda?! It makes me all uneasy and shit.
-

I really shouldn't be at work today...really no point
by just pillow talk
It should be an Asian cinema day today.
-
but nothing that compares to the hysterical Kitsch of Flash Gordon on one extreme and the mock-noirish urban grittiness of Get Carter at the other. <P>"You're a big man, but you're out of shape." <P>really off now. See you tomorrow.
-
I'm officially on FUCKING HOLIDAY, but have been called in for 3 hours a day for today, tomorrow and maybe Wednesday. I shall repay this by doing no work at all.
-
Best thing we can do is stick with this talkback, and stick with it for awhile, until it gets hard to load, and keep the conversations civil, fun and interactive. Being a bastion in the midst of instability is a good thing. However, I think we should refrain from going in other TBs and joining the ruckus, and coming back here to be genial. I don't that will count for much. I don't mean not posting elsewhere, I just mean getting involved in the kind of nonsense that seems to be DOMINATING this site currently. <P> These current hot TBs will fade, and then it will be us again, who have been maintaining top TBs on civil conversation, movie discussion, and even friendship since the beginning of July. That means we are a month and a half of continuing one ongoing sort of round table discussion of various geek topics. That's impressive. <P> Jarv, yea, that's why I asked for clarification. I think there were some answers I could give that wouldnt ruin the film for others. <P> Also, I read the MiraJeff wolfman TB. That must have been so humilating. Harry ignored his brown-nosing and theoretically (since he said you must be..if)called him a retard(rather harsh, but humorous) and then he threatened Jarv physically, which brought down wrath the likes of which I have rarely seen on here, and then someone posted a link to wired where he was sitting in a huddle like a little kid, in a pool of his own vomit, grasping an oxygen mask. And ontop of that, they finally took away his black box, leaving him a mess. <P> But, when did he lose the box exactly? And when did he spar with Mori. Thats what I want to read. <P> Also, a qoute from the Wired article. It's Mira's last statement before the fight. <P> "I'm the highest-profile target," Sneider says. "I hope he goes easy on me. I consider myself fairly good-looking, and I don't want to ruin that." <P> you are now officially the highest nothing, Mira.
-
I caught about 20 minutes of Monster Ark on Sci-Fi. That thing is pretty bad ass.....its actually very well made for those sort of films and the CG is not bad at all. Its not theatrical quality of course...buts it damn good for a cheapie. Tiny Zeus tears it up. The 20 minutes or so I saw prominently featured him screaming and spitting all over himself like Mr. Danny Glover himself.
-
I've been searching for the one where Mirahurl made an even bigger fool of himself with Mori, but I haven't found it as of yet. I'm pretty sure it was a Capone thread though.
-
now I sound like a fucking retard.
-
sliced in Saw.
-
Hey I liked the original Get Carter. Well off to lunch. Anyways Tashki Miike I think has everyone beat when it comes to condridicting movies.
-
Ill be sure to check out Monster Ark when I get a chance. Is it on dvd? why didnt you watch the rest Danny? <P> JPT, your offer of challenging other TBers to a game of checkers if they lived in the area, or offering to pick them up at the airport was the perfect slam on MJ. nice. <P> my other fave was whomever told him they would make him write "I am a s***heel in his own vomit."
-
Fred happy not to get banned this weekend!
-
I'm painting my place still and it was during one of my breaks that I caught a bit of it. Tiny Zeus is pretty good as a lead type character in a serious role. You laugh at him, but he is still bad ass.
-
Aug. 11, 2008, 11:01 a.m. CST
I have to admit I had a lot of fun with that thread
by just pillow talk
It was unfathomable that one of the contributors would challenge a talkbacker to a fight.
-
The saddest moment in film history when Jigsaw cuts The Glove. I fucking love Danny's character in that film though....he is so bad ass.
-
And by the way, with everything being as crazy as it is, I must congratulate you as being the most humble and gracious and kind TBer on this board. Even the grimiest troll has gotten nothing but a mannered response by you. You are a nice guy, and you make the setting around you nicer by association. I'm sure you will respond with a trademark "mole on the broad back of humanity(still a fave" but it is true. <P> See anything good this weekend fred?
-
So much going on with AICN. I mean, I don't like getting sucked into life's little soap operas but this Clone Wars/Ban Hammer/Uncapie/Free Speech stuff is really sort of riveting.<p>And I'm posting all over the place today for the first time in months because I'm captivated. But I'll keep up the good fight in here.<p>MiraJeff lost his black box shortly after that Wolfman TB I think.
-
That's actually pretty awesome, regardless of the movie. I've always liked Tiny and it's cool that he gets a lead in the same summer he has arguably one of the best moments in one of the biggest movies ever.
-
The funny thing is I think Tiny thought he was making a serious religious film. I saw him about a year ago on one of the God channels (I watch sometimes for amusement) getting interviewed, and he was pimping A Night With The King I believe. He was saying how he wants to focus on movies with strong Christian messages from now on.....so maybe he saw Monster Ark as a film with a serious Christian message even though most of the time its just army dudes unloading machine guns on a CG demon thing.
-
"Dear LORD GOD, please continue to bless and keep him and his wife. Grant them long life and good health. Please take his career in this industry to greater heights. in CHRIST'S name. AMEN." <p> Fuck. I wish I had fans like that!!

Fuck guys....we might get knocked off the board.....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
We gotta at least stay on the board. How the hell will anyone find this TB otherwise?
-
I thought that too. Though, it seems like Tiny might be one of the guys that tries to make both kinds of movie. If anything his five minutes in Dark Knight are more positive than the entirety of movies like One Night with the King. <P> What I want to see is a christian themed film where Mr. T and Tiny and Chris Tucker form some sort of team that goes around fighting demons. We will call it "Trinity Force."

We won't be able to compete with the controversy today
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
And to be honest, I don't mind. It's some good stuff out there. I'd love to know how Massa's review stays up even though Harry's came down. Someone needs to explain that because an embargo is an embargo. The studio isn't going to selectively enforce it.
-
I used to work at a place with several african american christians who would pray regularly for actors, Tiny included, for their families and for their success. And they were nothing less than sincere about it. And you gotta give Tiny credit for taking little bits like that role in Dark Knight, and using his physique and personality to help make a dramatic moment(whether you thought it cliche or not). Look no further than Mori's review, who actually told Tiny how powerful he thought the moment was, and Tiny took his phone info. <P> Drew, did Tiny ever call you?
-
Do you watch any of those religious action movies? I know you're a church goer right?
-
But the embargo wasn't just on Harry because he was the one that got the screening? I think Massa saw it on his own through some other route right?
-
I thought it was one of the best moments of the film, and the best moment of his career. "You gonna do what you shoulda' did 10 minutes ago.....give it to me....tell them I took it with force." Fucking bad ass.
-
And anyone ignoring it would have to deal with Warners. Right now the only screenings are advance screenings, not paid, so the embargo should affect everyone until the 15th.<p>If Massa's review comes down sometime today then it makes sense. Otherwise, I smell something rotten in the state of Denmark.
-
Fred is just Fred. But truly appreciate your kind words. Must come up with another line since humble wart has been used too many times! Hah. <p> Fred watched Machine Girl. Enjoyed it. It goofy fun.
-
...because he was the only one invited. Massa saw it through some other connection he doesn't have to come clean about so he can write whatever the hell he wants. But then again....how the fuck does Warners have this embargo in the first place? Why are they writers of this site allowed to write early reviews about every other film but this? What the fuck? If the review is not released before the film to help viewers choose whether or not it sounds like their kinda shit, then what the fuck is the point of reviews anyway? I trust the opinions of my personal friends over the twats that write for this site anyway. The only reason I read these reviews is because they have seen it before anyone else I know....WHAT THE FUCK?!!
-
I printed one of the Trek stories and curled up in bed with it. I especially enjoyed the part where the dude pops in the hot Vulcan chicks mouth in the engine room. <p>THANKS!
-
Fred can honestly say: he has no idea what story you are talking about. Hah! But it not surprise Fred at all that those stories are out on the website.
-
I didn't make that up. I really read that scene. But the part about me printing it out and sleeping with it....uhhh...not true.
-
I would call myself a christian and a churchgoer, but with the exception of Megiddo:Omega Code 2(see my comments on it below)I have not watched any of those movies, and I have no plans to. Many times, despite their hearts being in the right place, they are often very poorly made and sometimes wrong headed. I find the contemporary christian viewpoint and mine don't typically mix very much. I think the message that should be put forth should be far more universal than it is usually represented as. Again, I respect the efforts Tiny and others are making, and I'd love to see a pro-christian film of worth, but I think it's message needs to be centered around love and not dogma, or conservative values, or some form of social segragation. I'm going to stop, since I'd much rather discuss movies here, than religious views. <P> As for Meggido, I suggest any B-movie lover watch it since it has Michael York as the anti-christ, Udo Kier as the devil, R.Lee Ermy as the Pres of U.S. and Michael Biehn as the hero, who actually reloads his gun while saying "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away". It's quite a bit of bad movie fun.
-
I gotta watch that thing. Wait one fucking minute....R. Lee as the President?! Its hard to type Im laughing so hard

I just thought the title ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
..sounded a little scandalous. At first I thought it was about a groupie sucking off Elvis in a Vegas hotel room.
-
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/10310 <P> He covers all the major bases with it. All of that stuff is really in the movie, including Ermy saying "blessed" in place of a curse word.
-
it was mentioned on the docu Trekkies. <P> Also, lets have a new topic. How about foreign film wishlist? The foreign films we never got around to, want to see, or want opinions on?
-
isn't it odd that the same cast members of a christian entertainment are also the regulars on sci-fi originals. Gary Busey, Stephen Baldwin, Tiny Lister, John Rhys Davies, etc.
-
and they are on my queue:<p>The Lives of Others<p>The Devil's Backbone<p>The Orphanage
-
I watched it last night and it's awesomely hilarious. Danny, you too, check it out. It's pretty awesome b-movie fun.

damn I wanted to see Angel-A.......never got around to it
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Besson = THE ONE TRUE GOD
-
those are all 3 great films. Devil's Backbone and Lives are classics. Orphanage is also great. Enjoy! <P> I've had Diving Bell and the Butterfly on my queue for quite awhile, and havent gotten to it. However, I want to see Tell No One that's currently out, Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge which is from Japan, Dante 01 from France(I think) and as far as older films go, I'm looking forward to seeing Au Hazard Balthazar, Days of Glory and Aziris Nuna. Any idea where that last one is to see ?
-
It was watchable though. Besson's best are Leon, Fifth Element, Big Blue and Subway. All of those are terrific fun at the movies. Messenger, Arthur and Invisibles and Angel-A feel like severely warmed over variations of the same director.
-
Yeah, I'm psyched to see all of them. I'll pass on Angel-A though...
-
Will we be getting Blu-ray I need more Tony Leung Blu-Rays!!!! Don't fuck with Mr. Yee
-
was magnificent. Maybe he made the mistake of not casting Milla Jovovich. I guess it would be kinda weird...as he used to bang her.
-
More topical than ever since the whole show was a riff against the terrible smog and pollution woes in the Tokyo mega industrial late 60's and early 70's. He can fight fat Al Gore's imaginary smog monsters. Fuck he could Fight Fat Al Gore dressed as Dr. Gorey Spectraman had the best opening theme!!!!!
-
Danny, if my opinion means anything, I enjoyed the hell out of the movie. And so did my mom. She and I laughed all the way through.<p>Days of Glory was pretty good.
-
Your opinion means the world to me. There are four opinions I value strongly on here; HOD, Pillow, Jonah, Jarv. Even though they are not always the same...they are strong and honest, sort of like my testicles.
-
It was funny, and I actually quite enjoyed the main male lead of the movie. It's a lighter piece from Besson, and when I saw it, I think he had stated it was his last directed movie. As a result I was probably more disappointed because it wasn't the giant mega-epic action flick that should usher out Besson. Danny, based on your tastes(and I don't mean that flippantly) I think you will enjoy it.
-
was a fucking incredible movie, for its use of subtlety alone. Muhe would have been perfect for Landa too.
-
on Days of Glory.
-
was probably my favorite movie of last year. The part where he and his dad are talking on the phone was incredibly sad. Anybody on here seen that?

A bizarre Japanese sci-fi flick that visually had shades of City of Lost Children, or similar films. When they first mentioned it on this site, it was referred to as "Gusher No Binds Me." <P> And I assume everyone here has seen engrish.com?

It did a Keyser Soze.

AICN is gonna lose a lot of TB'ers me thinks....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
People are sick of this crap.
-
I guess they wanted to leave it up for as long as possible until WB contacted them? Perhaps to show 'us' that they were willing to put their necks on the perceived line?
-
Man, I love that guy. <P> I saw Circuit City is selling What Dreams May Come for 4.99. I think I'll add it to my collection. Sydow was great as the tracker in that film. When WDMC came out, I really dug it. I saw it maybe once in the ten years since it's release. Anyone else here a fan?
-
This is THEIR site, so they can choose how to handle it. People may not like it, but it's also their choice to continue to post here or to stop.
-
and yet I can't access it.
-
Perhaps I should add it to my queue, as I'm pretty sure Mrs. Pillow has never seen it.
-
but it is getting a bit more and more unstable feeling to TB on here. Feels like the place is falling apart. And the the TB's are absolutely the only reason anyone comes here. You can get better/faster news elsewhere. If the mood continues to get more somber and weird around here people will start to leave for good. Less traffic = less advertising, which eventually = AICN go bye bye.
-
WDMC, I mean pillow, but if you overlook the flabby new age bits, and the continual utterings of "soul mate" and take it in it's sincerity, I think it has some power to it. Visually, there is no question it is worth a watch. I think they aren't quite able to wrap the whole thing up well, and that's why I don't think it's quite a classic, though I would easily put it in the company of other thoughtful, deeply visual movies even if it's a little short of stature next to them. Werner Herzog even has a cameo as a damned soul.
-
Reviews up, reviews down, free speech a farce......it doesn't get any better.<p>I think they left Massa's review up as long as they did to try and demonstrate some stones to the readership. But Danny's right, a lot of people are going to flee due to this nonsense.<p>What Dreams May Come, saw it once, in the theater. I think I liked it. Need to watch it again.<p>Jonah, you see a lot more Asian B-movies than I do. I don't even know where you're seeing them because I can't find any of these titles for rental on the Asian sites.
-
I've liked everyone of this guy's movies(yes, even Alien:Ressurection is a fun B-flick, if not quite sucessful)and City of Lost Children and Delicatessen are two of my fave movies(especially in that visually rich vein). A Very Long Engagement was also a really great movie. I seem to recall he was working on Life of Pi, but it's 2008 and his last release was 2004. What up?
-
He's a Sith. (see, tying it all into the Clone War controversy)

by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...with the site then there is fucking movie news. What the fuck?!
-
Neither Harry nor Mori are my immediate editors, and the editor in question was not told of any embargo. The invitations we received said nothing of it (which is why Harry wrote his as well.) Being that I sleep until noon most days, I just now discovered the situation. We've pulled it down for the time being while we figure out wth is going on - and it will be reposted as soon as we are able.
-
I can probably help you locate some of them.
-
"These aren't the TBs you're looking for. You want to log off and rethink your life."
-
Where would they flee to? Fred hears that CHUD and superherohype are even worse, and they do IP bannings there.
-
I think it's a combination of factors: the head guys here are busy with other projects, so don't appear to have as much time to devote to this site, you've got contributors losing it within threads (uncapie, mirachunks), and you seem to have a lot of drippy little whores running amok in threads, posting hate filled comments about peoples' religion, race, ethnicity...<p>And then you have the CoC...standing firm like a rock against the waves of drippy whoreness.
-
Make a quality film instead of a cash grab, and bad reviews won't be a problem. And the fact it's bad reviews from Massa and Harry, dear lord this must be a trainwreck.
-
on a timeframe that has been covered way too fucking much! Nothing to see here, move along....
-
Well when I was about to leave after my posts were deleted I thought about that.....I'm not much of a forum poster sort of person. Once I get fed up here and leave....I won't go anywhere else. I'll just leave. <p> Yeah...Chud are a bunch of fucking twats.
-
The new Star Wars(not any new Star Wars, but this one in particular) holds no interest to me, and Im the guy who just payed to see another X-Files movie, even after copious bad reviews on it.

It was rather amusing. I wish I could see the Mori vs. Miraralph battle, as well as my missing review thread.
-
Check that story out!
-
Stuff like this happens from time to time on AICN. Especially the embargo stuff. And sometimes we dont know why stuff disappears. I sent a review in for Spiderwick back in Feb, they put it on the site, and now I cant find it for the life of me. It was a 2 weeks early review, but if any of you has seen that thread, shoot me a link.
-
Anybody here wanna talk about movies some more?

Period. Unless they will go ahead and make movies 7-9 and let someone else write the screenplay and direct.<p>Jonah, never heard of that Hellevator movie.

Let's talk about what people watched onthe weekend
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
For me, Starship Troopers 3 is worth watching. Once. Preferrably with a drink. I watched it stone cold.<p>Flash Gordon is just a campy and crazy as it was the first time I watched it. And I can't think of many movies that are as quote-a-riffic.
-
I saw it on the shelf at the local bestbuy. Not at some obscure mom and pop place or an anime convention. Freaking Bestbuy! <P> It was subtitled The Bottled Fools. I saw it via Netflix. It had an almost Cube-like vibe, where people ride these giant elevators from city to city, and a psychic female cop gets on board with some viscious deranged criminals.
-
...very well written. Back when they would actually post Spy written reviews on here.
-
since I was mainly helping my girlfriend to expand her movie knowledge. We watched Brick, Oldboy, and Se7en and I was planning on watching ran but I had a really busy night. i have it on right now though.
-
I saw Flashpoint (okay, nice fight at the end), Be Kind Rewind (ok - Lion King remake was my fave), caught bits of Saw (glad I've never seen the whole bit), and caught the end of Training Day (forgot how much Ethan got slapped around and generally beat up).
-
what happens if we resurrect that article and ride it to the top? Of course, that's probably self interest talking.
-
Man on Wire isn't playing around here. We don't have a single indie theater in the city. I'd have to drive two hours to Charlotte to catch this.<p>OK, I'm officially worn out from all the drama around here. I'll only post in this thread for the rest of the day.
-
I was at the board game convention this weekend, so I didnt see as much as usual, but I did check out the Dark City Director's Cut which was AMAZING, especially in hi-def. <p> I also saw X-Files 2: I Want to Believe, and while I liked it, it's no surprise why it didn't hit. The tone is odd. I do understand now it's subtitle, and it's less wierd having seen the movie. <P> I saw Daisy, which is second only to Dark City as the best movie I saw this weekend. Loved that ending, or at least my interpretation of it. <P> Finally saw Zebraman which is also a pretty cool movie, and a definitely fun B-movie.
-

That's a relief, I thought the ban hammer had come down on everyone.<p>What's up with that ST3/Rogue TB - couldn't post, wouldn't load, etc. There's a hex on it for sure.<p>But here you are, an oasis in a desert of AICN insanity.
-
That was a very well written review. Fred not surprised at all. Yes, we should ressurect that old TB. Fred all for it.

I would not get to wound up about the future of AICN, these sort of "melt downs" happen about every 18 month or so. I think things reach a point of critical mass and then they erupt in situations like this past weekend.<p>After the major eruption and a few days of post event minishocks things return to normal. Its actually somewhat cathartic because it clears out many chuckle heads.<p> I've been banging around AICN since nearly the beginning of its run and it been this way since then. Sure, AICN has changed over the years, but that's to be expected. Besides myself, how many people are the same immature jackass they were twelve years ago? Times change, people change and even web sites change.<p>Now, Danny, on a personal note I'm hurt I didn't make your list of TBers who's opinion you trust. Sniff sniff, please look away I just have something in my eye. No I'm not crying its dust. sniff, sniff.
-
Enjoy - http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/37000

of years was the Stallone threads. And then the price of oil went up and we got surrounded by knuckleheads and the stock of AICN dropped. Buy low!

I particularly like this : "one day soon, AICN will rue the day it pinkslipped MiraJeff. over and out."<p>Ha-ha! What a tool.
-
There are two reasons I didn't mention you. You're not on with the same regularity as others (every damn day) and you tend to not be a very opinionated fellow. You are more easy going with your views from what I have seen.

I don't see why you guys think he is such a dick....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
....it does sound like they used him and then just threw him out like trash when they didn't need him any longer. And never paid a cent? If thats true...that is fucking shameful.
-
I don't like him cause he wanted to fight Jarv.
-
they originally came to when he started to contribute to the site. Regardless, that still was a pathetic display that he rambled on and on about in that thread.
-
infidels who populate the threads, hence his banishment as Xiphos.
-
...he laid out exactly why he felt wronged. Whats pathetic is that AICN actually has a rule not to cover Uwe Boll movies. What the fuck? And then they pimp Eli Roth and Rodriguez? Fuck that. Boll movies are 10 times as entertaining as both of them combined. His movies are shit....absolutely, but they are entertaining shit. This site is really pissing me off lately. <p> And Xiphos is opinionated about other things...I'm speaking movies. I have never heard a strong opinion of his on a film really. I'm not insulting him...I just saying.
-
Mira "signs off" twice. Guess that "date" wasn't too important after all.<p>Funniest part of the whole thing is right after MiraJeff finishes balling about how negative everybody is, Doctor Zoidberg posts right under him how much Zohan will "S.U.C.K.B.A.L.L.S."
-
I was joking man but thanks for responding anyways. The mellow attitude is rather recent and if my posting history had not been erased I could back that up, but they've been vaporized so I can't.
-
First, he aired it out in a talkback. Stupid. He was starved for the attention: look at poor little old me!<p>Second, he immediately launched into his little irate spiel. He was just biding his time hoping a talkbacker would ask him about it. The fact that he wrote a book on his poor hurt feelings...bah. <p>Perhaps if he wasn't an ass and challenged Jarv to a fight, I would feel sorry for him. <p>Then again, he's a writer who's a fighter.
-
I was stupid and voiced my opinion before reading through all that Mirajeff shit. I thought he was an actual AICN employee that just wasn't getting paid......I didnt realize he was just a guy sending in reviews. Like if I started sending in reviews for every film I saw and suddenly got all pissed in 6 months screaming, "WHAT THE FUCK AICN?!! Why aren't you paying me?!!" If he never tried to get in as a regular AICN staff member as Mori said, than he is a fucking moron for continuing to send in free content.
-
I firmly believe I am among the reasons canvass back Jeff got kick to the curb. I was busting his balls so bad about his beat down at the hands of Uwe Boll he threatened to kick my ass and challanged me to a fight. I accepted the challange and like an hour later he was gone. That was fun.<p>Oh Danny I do have film opinions but honestly most films lately have been so vanilla that I don't even bother commenting on them I don't really care enough to. Plus I haven't seen a new movie since early June so I don't comment on things I have not seen.<p> Well its been fun but its nearly 11pm for me and I'm tired it was a long hot day so I'm off to bed.

Well, again, this is a geek news site. It's called Aint it Cool, so honestly, if they think Eli Roth is cool but Uwe isnt, it's up to them. Personally, I think Mori went above and beyond explaining things to Mira Jeff. <P> I've seen this sort of thing time and time again, one dude feeling his is perpetually wronged, and yet the problem was he was a loose cannon, and wasn't technically "working" for them. He has done nothing save post some reviews, a set visit or what not, and post in a black box. Several of the regular TBers here have done the same. I've been lurking round here since 97, and have contributed reviews, reports, other stuff under different names for awhile. Granted, I never had any sort of relationship with these people as Mira seems to have had, but his one so-called claim to fame was a disgraceful publicity coup that none of the site runners thought he should participate in. I think if Boll ever creates something that looks like a real movie, and is intended to be more than a way for him to extend his 15 minutes, I think they will review it. <P> This isn't a legit news site, or some sort of unbiased source. It's a geek site. MiraJeff would pick fights, ignore the staff, and then he wasnt even doing the "job" when they "took" it away from him. <P> Besides, I thought he was a bit of douche back before I knew he threatened Jarv(NOOOOT COOOOOL) and melted down. I didnt know any of that until today. And it was sad to read. <P> The best though was: "god there's so much more that i want to say but i can't get into right now because believe it or not, i actually have a date." <P> I hope Uwe took him someplace nice.
-
I see you read the whole thing now, you can disregard my comments. They basically cover what you read for yourself.
-
He even said his whole identity was wrapped up in in mirajeffaicn name, and his blackbox. Or words to that effect. Then he had it taken away. Fred think he may have been immature, and definitley should not have made it public, but still, he was hurt. Who here has not been hurt by something or someone we loved?
-
you really should read MiraJeff's posts with the voice of the Monarch. Much, much better.
-
I should have more compassion. It was sad to read that mostly. Still, it sounds like AICN did help his career, so it's hard to feel too bad for him. I hope he works on his sense of himself, and his emotions, as well as that sense of entitlement. Right now they tend to overshadow the other qualities. Fred is right though, he was hurt, and once the gates opened, he should have signed off but kept writing. I give Mori credit for handling it with some sensitivity.
-
What say you, boyos? Let's move ahead and discuss the stuff we were last week. Favorite this or favroite that. Top ten this, worst moment that. With all this drama lately, we need to get back to what we do best. Honestly, that's what keeps me coming back to this site everyday.
-
moments when a character just goes off, whether insane, pretending, or the actor has clearly really started to enjoy himself/herself.. <p> For instance, the last ten minutes of There Will Be Blood. <P> DRRAAAAIIINNAAAGGE!!!
-
When he banned me once and I emailed him and talked to him about it he was very cool. I called him a liar about saying he would answer questions about the Darabont Indy script (before it leaked) and he never did......so I thought he was under some gag order or something. He banned me and I emailed him and he took the time to explain he was really fucking busy right now and talked about his kid and his scripts and shit on email and said he is anything but a liar and he doesn't appreciate that comment. I apologized and he reactivated Dick Blood a second later. He was very cool about it and I kinda sensed he didnt like being a hard ass to me.....he didn't enjoy it like most would.
-
after the shootout, and his brother's death and he is there in the rain with the gun, screaming "Hell's comin' with me!!!"
-
I always like Ed Harris' acting in Abyss when curly haired chick is seemingly dead and he starts screaming and beating on her to bring her back.....kind of a short-lived meltdown.
-
mary elizabethamsarmamamsmmmtaaantonionononononioniooningfinkelstein
-
Michael Douglas does a wonderful slow burn throughout the movie. But when he goes off in the army surplus store, wowzaas!!!
-
at the end of Urban Legend..
-
"You take those two bottles of champagne.....and fuck them."
-
screaming, spraying spittle, and then actually saying "You wanna see me Go?? YOU JUST WATCH ME GO!!!" and picking up the electrical chord, BITING off the safety padding, and then sinking his teeth into the actual live wires.
-
... in The Amityville Horror, when he goes off at those priests. Always raises a smirk from me.
-
Ed Harris became an acting God the day I saw that movie.<p>You guys see the trailer for the western with him and Viggo called Appaloosa. Harris directed it. Looks like a great shoot 'em up.
-
Minority Report, where Anderton has exposed him in the middle of that big benefit party, and you see him as he is hearing all the dirty laundry being aired and you just watch his face. And then he gets the gun out.
-
at the end of Exorcist III. "I believe in FILTH, AND ROT AND DECAY. YES, I BEEEELLIEEEVE INNN YOOOUU!!"
-
in The Abyss. Yeah. Just, yeah. One of my all-time favourite scenes.
-
Fuck, that performance is amazing. I love that film.....and I love how raw and insane Nolte is in that thing. He has some incredibly well written lines. <p>"......and as I watched this tiny life unfold, I began to imagine the horror of it, and my curiosity was replaced with compassion. But they took away my chance to cure him. Your father threw me out. I remember that day so well. Every moment. Every sensation. Walking into the house. The feeling of the handle of the knife in my hand. I knew I was doing a father's work, fulfilling a father's mercy... but then she surprised me. It was as if she and the knife merged. You cannot imagine the unbearable finality of it. And in that one moment, I took everything that was dear to me and transformed it into nothing more than a memory. "
-
that progresses through "Im sitting here quietly judging you" to him just bawling his eyes out at his father's death bed. Best acting he has ever done.
-
My first encounter with Danny in the Neil Armstrong TB.<p>I went from wishing death on the guy to sending him movies.<p>Go figure!
-
...and I've always thought Abyss was the rare occasion where he was really great and he has been banking off that role ever since.
-
After seeing that film just once in theaters, I still remember Nolte's voice saying that last part.."You cannot imagine the unbearable finality of it. And in that one moment, I took everything that was dear to me and transformed it into nothing more than a memory. " and the middle eastern wailing on the soundtrack matched with the image of the bomb going off. You are right. Powerful.
-
At the end - when he totally cokes out, after killing his best friend who married his sister, then his sister Mary Elizabeth Mastrtononionionio - flips out, then she gets whacked, then he really flips out snorts a garbage bag full of coke, and introduces the Columbian to his 'leetle fren'.
-
since he seemed pretty chill almost the whole film, but what about Viggo beating the shit out of that guy and punching his nose off in History of Violence? There's a couple of outbursts in that movie that are just really intense (like the sex scene on the stairs) but that part for me was the worst, with the nose slowly tearing off after every blow. Crazy.
-
which really turns into a literal meltdown.
-
Im not sure it was a meltdown, more of a relapse. He seemed so focused.
-
I do the same thing to the females in my life. They go from pure hatred toward me to inexplicable love in a weeks time.
-
When you find out he isnt rage-infected. Creepy.
-
In Michael Clayton. When she's being hounded to agree to his blackmail and simultaneously yelling to the guy off-screen and you see the desperation set in.<p>Perfect.<p>She truly deserved the Oscar.
-
it happens slowly, and he makes each part believable.
-
in The Core. Not really a meltdown as such but - "I was screaming for you!" was rather well delivered.
-
Nicholson letting the cheese slide off the cracker, and breakng through that door in The Shining. <P>
-
"GET....ME....EVVVEERRRYYYOONNEE!"
-
I do the same thing with the females in my life. They go from pure hatred toward me to inexplicable love in a weeks time. Was the audience supposed to think he was infected? Hahaha. I have missed that all these years.
-
on slow burn all the way through Dead Man's Shoes.
-
Then getting his ass handed to him by Emperor
-
Christian Bale in The Machinist..

Fred has not watched Unforgiven in a long time
by Freds_Balls_in_a_Mason_Jar
Maybe this week.
-
Running off the tower in flames? Oh yeah.<p>Eastwood threatening to kill the family of anyone who shoots at him. Love it.<p>Of course there's the epic meltdown in Oldboy. Cutting off your tongue? Ouch.
-
That is a goodone.
-
I see you found the mirajeff TB. Thank you. I forgot I posted in there as well - at the end though
-
again, this time in The Thin Red Line. He's sat down after the village attack and the camera just stays on him. He tries to keep a grip but you can see him falling to pieces before your very eyes. Phenomenal piece of work from the Nolte.
-
Twelve Monkeys meltdown every 5 minutes. <P> end of Seven meltdown. <P> flipping out and spraying his own blood all over that guy in Fight Club. <P> an IMPLIED meltdown through Jesse James, as if it's all happening, perfectly encased, internally.
-
Interesting movie. Not as violent as I expected but good cinema.
-
What is it about?
-
Mad Mel's meltdown in Patriot, and the bloody carnage that ensues right after the death of his youngest son.
-
in the last few minutes of The Mist.
-
When he's talking about studying Homer at the academy and then begins screaming over the radio to take the hill under any circumstances and the whole hill erupts like the apocalypse from cannon fire and the men start running through the grass.....that is without a doubt one of the finest scenes in film history.
-
Whe he is talking about his boss Mr. Shirley in Christmas Vacation.<p> One of my favorite rants of alltime.<p> Damn I have been in meetings all damn day.<p> Damn.
-
Holy shit. He's barking like a dog and cutting off his tongue, and then at the end when he presses the button and the recording comes on? Cruel shit. So I just finished Ran and I gotta say the guy who played Hidetori was pretty incredible, with lots of little meltdowns. What about Toshiro Mifune's speech about samurai and peasant farmers in Seven Samurai? He's pretty moddy the whole time, but I still think it's a great moment.
-
The tomahawk chop scene is Mel's finest hour.
-
If I recall didn't they refuse to follow Nolte's order after his meltdown becasue it ammounted to suicide?
-
Thin Red Line - war in the Pacific. The focus is on moral damage rather than physical, though there is plenty of physical damage. It drifts between the visceral and the poetic and it's quite unlike any war film I've seen before.<p>I like it a lot. But I bet everybody here's got a different take on it.
-
Best part of A Few Good Men.<p> Exchange with Caffey is classic.
-
Fucking gold from start to finish. He clearly loves all his children so damn much......and that moment when his kids are watching there father hack those red coats to piece and his hair a disarray in his face and he has blood all over his arms-- and the boys realize their Father was once an animal. Crazy/scary moment to think about for a kid.
-
But some are turned off by it because it is a slow, psychological, calculating film that can be a little tedious. You gotta throw out what you think a war movie is before viewing. This is all about the draining psychology of it.
-
anyone get upset at the death of that kid from the sixth sense? An i so could not get into the thin red line. it was so self serving and high brow. if i want to watch 15 minutes worth of rain in the jungle i will go to cunnungra. actually that sounds like next weekend. shit.
-
Came out the same year as Saving Private Ryan. both were nominated for best pic at the oscars. Thin Red Line is directed by Terrence Malick and is and infinitely better film than SPR. Although if you listen to the mouthbreathers who complain it's "two hours of sunlight through trees" you may not like it. I've been waiting for an extended cut dvd for a million years.
-
I was watching a little of it the other day and the one guy's wife/gf on the swing from the flashbacks is Eowyn from LOTR.
-
Hee hee. Fred can't help it! Just gets a chuckle every time. Thank you for telling Fred about it. Perhaps a netflix rental
-

If you saw The New World you know what to expect from TTRL.
by HoboCode
Malick directed that as well.and they are similar in style. Very poetic and methodical but also a masterpiece. Can't wait until the extended cut of that comes out this fall.
-
Can be an amazing thing....
-
It's been at least 6 years since I watched it but I remember the squad charging the hill and getting mowed down to pieces and then taking refuge wherever they could. I need to watch it again. It's one of the tougher films for me to watch though.
-
was great. i watched it back to back with shadow of the vampire. i didn't mind hostel and i wanna see hostel 2. from what i have heard it goes into the lives of the killers which is an interesting idea. i like saw 1. i must be the only person who thought the ending was a little contrived. there was nothing really pointing to that possibility ie 'did he move' 'no youre imagining it' and therefore i cant really see it as twist. plus i kept expecting carey ewles to say 'TIGHT tights'
-
Always a pleasure. Always.<p>The other guys are nailing it better than me, I think.
-
I wanted to punch that chick for dumping the guy when he's overseas fighting in that nightmare.
-
Hans Zimmer. "Silence" is still used in trailers today. One of the most absolutely breathtaking pieces of music ever created. Hell even the polynesian tribal music is good.
-
Fred have strange sense of humor, Fred know.
-
That pissed me off like you would not believe.
-
For me it's either Apocalypse Now (which I know kind of isn't one), A Bridge Too Far or Full Metal Jacket. I personally would love to see a war movie based around the German assault on Russia or something similar to the Dirty Dozen but set in World War I. Anybody got suggestions. I have already seen Enemy At the Gates.
-
Ok, it is true he has several - sorry DGDB, could not help it. But The Hans Zimmer one is a biggie. Fred, you might want to get your popcorn ready.
-
Stalingrad.
-
I don't care. Although if he doesn't acknowledge that Silence is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written we will have a problem.
-
Fred knows why Clone wars is still growing - there is a 'ghost' TB it is still up and running!
-
I love TTRL, obviously, but I also love Full Metal Jacket, Tora Tora Tora, Paths of Glory, All Quiet on the Western Front (also my favorite book), Johnny Got His Gun, Europa Europa, Downfall, Stalingrad
-
i liked spr. battle of britian. didn't fully get into bridge to far. gallipoli, hamburger hill, platoon
-
Always liked that one. Seems to come on AMC every other day and I always check it out.
-
das boot. i love when he puts the crotch powder on the guys forehead. dickhead
-
Kirk Douglas saves the world
-
Das Boot, Bridge Too Far. Always get into The Longest Day as well.
-
You've got the writing genius of Mel Brooks & Gene Wilder to thank for the name!
-
Wow, Fred love Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder, but Fred did not pick up on that. Shame on Fred.
-
Dude Pirates, Da Vinci Code, Mission Impossible II, The Rock, Broken Arrow, Pearl Harbor, The Peacemaker......far too much unforgivable garbage. And to be a shit composer....thats fine. I would never knock those with limited ability, its like knocking a female for having small tits. But its the fact that many hail Zimmer as being some amazingly talented composer, which he is simply not. I do admit Thin Red Line and Gladiator are great scores. I think you pointed out "Silence" a few months back Hobo. I do agree....it is great.....
-
last crusade and empire strikes back (cheating i'm sure) everyone i know in the military loves jar head, because everyone is afraid of what the missus get up to when they go away.
-
i don't know, i didn't get into it. i wanna watch desert rats and rats of tobruk. Charles Chauvel went to my school
-
Was amazing. The second half, while wasn't bad at all, didn't hold me like first half.<p> I still has to be mentioned among the war movies that really started introducing me to the real violence and insanity of war.
-
Bingo.
-
i agree. band of brother and a series in oz called changi. that series was good because, it was written by an aussie comedian but was a drama, so the prisoners are cracking jokes about their predicament. there was a 'dear john' moment in that too but it was a bit different. because they were in changi so long they started off as missing in action and then became legally dead. I know a guy who's mother remarried after his father was listed as dead, but then the father came back. the dude was raised by his step dad
-
Bridge Over the River Kwai<p> Platoon<p> Apocalypse Now<p> Also have VHS copy of Heart of Darkness about the making of Apocalypse Now. Good stuff.
-
That was one of the best mini-series I have seen to date. Regardless of topic.
-
Of Darkness documentary - I've got that on VHS somewhere as well. Amazing. Why that didn't go on the Redux DVD is a mystery.<p>That bit with Coppola ranting about Sheen's heart attack, "He's not dead until I say he is!" Priceless.
-
i love that 'oh god, what have i done' moment where alec guinness turns around and blows it up
-
I have a shitload of VHS tapes and My father-in-law has nearly every AFI list, but they are 99% on VHS.<p> I would love to convert some of these over.<p> He even had The White Buffalo we were talking about the other day.
-
Yeah... I have one. It works great. I dunno the brand off the top of my head. I'll check tonight. It was only like $150.
-
the better meltdown in falling down in the fast food store. 'i just want breakfast' priceless. and heart of darkness was insane. the bit where he goes ape shit and smashes the mirror. that was a war movie in itself
-
Been looking at those myself but I think you can only get 2hrs on a blank DVD(?)<p>Better bet might be the USB VHS converter - straight into your PC and presumably you can edit out adverts, stuff like that.<p>I'm not technically gifted!
-
the end of dr strangelove. love that movie. you cant fight in here, this is war room.
-
The converter was made by ION. I was on a hardware site a few months ago and some guy was saying that the recording conked after 1hr 50mins, possibly a disc space issue.<p>You had any problems like that?
-
No. I just have a machine with VHS and DVD decks that can burn discs. Not a PC converter or anything like that. Just a stand alone machine. Mine works great so far....I've only converted about 5 VHS tapes. And I think it can fit more than 2 hours if I'm not mistaken. I think you can lower the quality and fit up to 4 hours.
-
You da man! Anyone giving a shoutout to Dr. Strangelove deserves a pat on the back.<p>And that fast food meltdown was priceless. Especially when he starts complaining about how the product doesn't match the picture.
-
Band of Brothers (although technically a mini-series) is my number one.<p>And Stalingrad is a superb German movie. Those poor bastards were left to rot by their leadership.<p>Anyone ever see 84 Charlie Mopic? Before Blair Witch or Cloverfield, this movie was THE granddaddy of documentary style shaky cam. I don't think it's on DVD which is bullshit. After Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now, it's the best Vietnam War movie.
-
Amazing movie, its timeless it looks like it was made this year.
-
Cheers for the info. Need to look into this properly. I've got stacks of VHS with old films on crying out to be digitised.
-
he asked where the war room was and was flabbergasted that they did not have one
-
I know a lot of people hate it and its pretty much like Causilties of War. I like the way De Palma did it. Also what about Biloxi Blues (with Chris Walken as a Drill instructor)? Der Untergang is also a personal favorite. That one asian war movie Harry loves The Brotherhood of War I thought was alright, not as amazing as Harry said. <P> I really want to see that Red Baron movie. After seeing Paul Showgirls take on WW with The Black Book, I am looking forward for more european big budget war movies.
-
I also rate The Big Red One, starring Lee Marvin. And another stunner is Taegukgi (Brotherhood) set against the Korean war. Blindingly good.
-
remember the bit where the guy gets his nuts shot off, and the rest of them are just laughing at him? fuck that.
-
Rivaled only by Missing In Action, is The Walking Dead. Tell me someone has seen this gem. Jonah?!
-
"It's just one of your balls, you can live without it..."<p>Awhile since I've seen it, but yeah. Don't recall them laughing though!
-
maybe they weren't laughing just making fun. i thought they were but it is a while since i saw it.

This TB will be King....oh yes....it will be King
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
But I had goofy fun with Flyboys. It's complete bullshit but a fun way to spend two hours.<p>I saw the trailer for Red Baron like 2 years ago. What's the status on that thing?
-
...it looked like a partial fantasy type Sky Captain vibe.
-
that one passed me by. i remember a little bit about it at the time, but it must be the only $100m movie that i have forgotten. I might check it out.
-
it didn't get a proper release here. that sometimes happens when a movie does poorly in the states. I was shitty because gone baby gone didn't get a proper release and i wanted to watch it. in the end i had to watch it at a mates house. it was good.
-
...if you watch it on ecstasy.
-

Holy fucking cunts the new Punisher trailer is bad ass....

oh its the trailer 2A for the new Punisher trailer.....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
Right? Thats what the trailer said to me.
-
i know australia is sports mad but this is ridiculous. the other channels really arn't trying. channel ten is playing: an opera special - 25 years of tom cruise
-
The Road Warrior: haven't seen it in awhile and just felt like picking it up for fun. I'm probably drinking this weekend and I think that would be a fun film to accompany alcohol.<p>James Dean: I figured I should get this to prepare for Pineapple Express. I know James Franco is a good actor and I wanted to see that, but without watching a damn Spider Man movie.<p>Sword of the Beast: I have never seen this one, but the title reminded me of Sword of Doom and the covers were similar, so I thought what the hell? Criterion has never let me down yet.<p>The 400 Blows: Another classic I have not seen, but have always wanted to.<p>Blue Velvet: My girlfriend hasn't seen it but I think it's a classic everybody deserves to watch.<p>Driving Miss Daisy. Mofress also hasn't seen this one, and i don't think you can call yourself a Morgan Freeman fan without having seen this.<p>Anybody else got movie plans this week?
-
I hope you remember a certain something about tomorrow. And coincidentally, my movie plans for the week look an awful lot like yours. Well, at least I will watch 3 of the movies. I do plan on taking some time to read some feminist lit. though to remind me that there is sanity in the world, as well an alternative to the traditional Little Mermaid scenario. Maybe some BORDERLANDS/La Frontera, hmm?
-
was an action film. I'll probably watch one of the eight DVDs you sent me too HOD. Happy camping folks!
-
I thought it was a porno. and i tell you, you will need to read fem lit to cleans yourself after watching the road warrior and driving miss daisy. remember, women can't drive.
-
I heard that in a movie but it's not true.
-
somewhat late clarification on my mention of the Patriot scene...yes, that sequence is one of Mel's greats, especially the kids watching their father chop those dudes up. What I meant is I didn't care for the movie surrounding that scene(and a handful of others). But the scene itself is a great meltdown,or else I wouldn't have mentioned it. <P>
-
find the fact they are showing Chocolate at Fantastic Fest amusing? I'll be seeing Mr. Socrates this week. Danny, did you watch Chocolate or Daisy yet?
-
If you haven't you should all check out that Dorothy Mills posession clip. That one there is creepy stuff. My favorite line is "There is some scary s*** going on here". Looks like an excellent creepy movie. It would be perfect for Halloween, but I doubt I'll be able to see it by then.
-
DVD arrived in the post this morning. Been looking forward to this one for months, heard a lot of good things. And a dts soundtrack too. Yeehaw!<p>Lunch time so crap computer at work will freeze up any second...
-
I can see something about a robot chicken and Step Brothers but neigh scary possessions clip.<p>Far too few scary possessions, in my view.
-
Once again, no way we can compete with that Clone Wars stuff today.<p>Good to know Chocolate is getting some exposure over here. I think it's criminal that the average person still doesn't know who Tony Jaa is.
-
Don't know what all the fuss is about. Saw the trailer in front of TDK - didn't generate any kind of excitement in the theatre, people usually pass comments during the trailers but there was only silence. Kids might like it though.<p>Hope the weather's nice where you are. It's pissing down here!
-
Mel was fantastic. Great story, kicks ass action too.
-
But I will wait until you show up befioe I unload a neigh on you
-
Lamdmark movie. i love the French new wave, and that one may have been the grandaddy of them all. Not my favorite of the new wave, but it ranks very high. A must see for any serious movie lover.
-
Maybe not knowing who Tony Jaa is will help him recover from the meltdown in overseas markets. He sure as shit is hosed at home - for now.
-
It's a lovely day in the deep south, as we have over an inch of rain for the day.<p> Toad get ready in 3...2...1
-
Neigh means Neigh!!!
-
That girl that was huffing computer duster last night BLEW MY MIND...<p> She was scary and I felt sorry for her at the same time.
-
You got me! - 6-4
-
The war continues.
-
Great movie. It hinted at being heavy handed at times but it was a gut wrenching film. Great book too.<p>It's clear sunny skies here. But then again, that's all it is here during the summer. We're in the middle of yet another drought. Water levels at their lowest in 10 years.<p>I was bored so I spent the whole morning looking at places with Google Maps. All the places I've never been like Sydney, Cairo, Hong Kong. I really need to get my life started so I can travel the world. I'm tired of sitting at this desk.
-
It appears that Red Baron movie has already had it's theatrical run in Europe, or at least Germany. So I expect the DVD will be out soon, even if it's from a different region.
-
about Clone Wars being great on ecstacy.<p> A little advice..DO NOT watch a horror movie or anything that has a big creature.<p> We tripped one night and watched Jurassic Park.<p> Later that night I SAW the T-Rex coming through the trees and my friends said I was in the back seat of the jeep hollering for everyone to get in quick.<p> Creeped me out.<p> Also don't watch Dumbo either, as you will lose your mind during the pink elepahnt scene and cry your eyes out when he visits his mother in the little jail.
-
when he visits his mother in jail gets me even when I don't use the help of drugs.<p> If you don't get a swell in your throat during that scene, well, let's just say check your heart and make sure it's not made of stone.<p> By the way I haven't done any drugs since the T-Rex encounter.<p> I still drink beer, wine and whiskey though. Also cigars and cigarettes on occasion.
-
My bro-in-law was up there and thought he won $21,000 and he was freaking out.<p> But he rechecked and it was three dollars. I can't remember if he bought it in NC or not.<p> Either way, if I won big in lotto I would indeed travel far.<p> I would also do the whole dart behind my back to giant map of the world bit.
-
They call it the "education lottery" since it's meant to generate funds for our school system. It's been a colossal failure though. Not enough interest.<p>Nothing wrong with drugs, if that's your thing. I'm a firm believer in legalizing drugs. If someone wants to smoke weed, that's there business. It's far safer and less fattening than getting drunk.<p>Personally, I enjoy a good cigar buzz accompanied by the warm feeling of a good glass of port but to each his own.
-
I'll do the dart on the world map thing myself. I'll go anywhere except for the hot zones. Hell, I could probably even go to Cuba if I flew to Canada and then whipped out my Canadian passport and booked a ticket to Havana.<p>Going back to Europe is my priority. I'd love to take my mom back to the homeland (Holland) before she passes.
-
Travel destination?
-
But it was defeated. I guess we will have to make do with casinos all over the place.<p> Yes, A good cigar and a glass of Blanton's whiskey makes for quite the swell evening.<p> Did you ever find some pecan beer?<p> I can't wait to see what you guys think of it.
-
Just for the varied landscapes and hopefully to catch a WRC (rally cars) race while I'm there.<p> You know there is no restrictions to where you can sit and watch?<p> People are just in the woods walking around. Nice.
-
Couldn't find the pecan beer or Fat Tire. There's a guy who runs a specialty beer/wine shop and he special orders anything he doesn't carry so I'm going to visit him on Saturday.
-
The special effects were impressive, but I found it too contrived and melodramatic.
-
I would like to go to Greece or Turkey. Possibly Madagascar.
-
It really wasn't a good movie but it's one of those rare silly movies that I know I should hate but that I give a pass to. And the effects were impressive, especially the attack on the blimp.<p>Greece? Excellent call. In fact, going to look up Athens on Google Maps and fawn like a schoolgirl.
-
"Do you know what kind of a bomb it was?"<p>"The exploding kind."
-
Our cable provider does not carry it anymore, but man was that cool.<p> They would feature all these locations that were both well known and not well known.<p> That was a great Sunday morning channel to watch.
-
Hhhmmmm......I would say Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, and India.

South Africa, Egypt, Peru, Cuba, New Zealand, Japan

Darjeeling Limited really made me want to go.

The Adventures of Chitty in Jurassic Park on E

Hahaha. I was kidding about seeing Clone Wars while tripped out. I don't want any kids to read this. But really....Jurassic Park? Fuck me. That would be scary.

I remember watching Michael Palin's travel show

That must be coming on close to 20 years now since it first aired. He really went to some great unknown places.<p>Danny, don't forget to ask for the happy ending in Thailand.

I'll ask for the happy ending in Thailand....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...but chances are it will be from a dude that looks like a beautiful chick. Aaawwww fuck it. As long as he has nice legs.
-
They said me my heart rate was through the roof and I was sweating and shaking.<p> I just remember that thing poking his head around the trees looking at us like he was stalking our little camp site.<p> Never again after that. No way.<p> I did have a friend that was tripping and he said everytime he talked, he could see the words and they were filling up the floorboard of the car.<p> So this guy opens the door and starts trying to scoop them out on the highway.<p> Funny stuff.
-
That shits crazy. I don't have any colorful stories like that. All my adventures involve me drunk off whiskey and pissing in strange public places; drive thru window, public fountain, miniature golf course, etc.

Fuck.

Regarding that pic of Gyllenhaal as Prince of Persia
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Hahaha. What the fuck is that? That is the funniest shit I've seen all week. Was Brendan Fraser not available from the set of George of the Jungle or what? Fuck me....this is like the good old days when Charleton Heston played a Mexican.
-
I've marked my territory on just about any structure imaginable.<p>The one time in my life I got stoned, I got super stoned. I walked into a ladies bathroom at a pool hall and thankfully no women came in while I spent half an hour staring at the wall and wondering why there weren't any urinals.
-
Done that shit twice. The first time I just instantly started puking all over the front of myself. The second time I tripped for about 18 hours and later found out it was laced with something. I tried to find out what and these cocksucking friends of friends said, "Acid....PCP.....who knows." <p> Uhhhh.....okay. Last time I touch that shit.

I really like Gyllenhaal but that casting is all wrong
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
Have you seen some of those Bollywood guys? Still wrong ethnicity but even they would have been a better fit. They are cut and have perfect features and would drive the chicks wild.
-
those are the top five for me. And for pure curiosity, throw in a visit to the Galapagos Island.
-
He has been badly cast in every role since then. I dont like that dull retard look on his face. I just can't accept him as charming or bad ass....what the Prince needs to be.
-
I walked into a Krystal's (great tiny hamburgers) completely naked (well I did have running shoes on) and ordered.<p> The weird thing is they took my order and the entire staff came to the front to see what the commotion was.<p> I gave them the money and took my food and they never called the cops.<p> But some stupid girl in the parking lot did and we had to hide behind a grocery store for about 30 minutes while the cops poked about the parking lot.<p> I went to a party later on next door to my little duplex naked, but they made me put a sock on my private area.<p> I am so glad I don't abuse drugs and alchohol anymore.

by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...bad idea for them to have a full bar in there man.
-
....completely shit-faced. Fuck. Not good....my stomach is upset just thinking about it.
-
It looks generic as hell but I'll probably enjoy the crap out of it.<p>Yes, I got a kick out of the first one. It had a lot of dopey stuff but so does that 80s cheese we love so much.
-
I like a good possesion flick.<p> I think it is because so many people either believe in it or don't.<p> And either way, there is always a little bit of evidence that makes you wonder...<p> The book version of The Exorcist was very good at making you decide in what you believed was true or not true.<p> Emily Rose also walked that fine line in proving and disproving.

I can't imagine being out in public with my junk
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
In full view.<p>"I can see your doodle."<p>"Dad, hide your shame!"
-
What looks generic about it? The photography is fucking awesome. It looks like Dick Tracy.....and that crazy all villain looks nuts. He looks like the guy from the end of Little Monsters with Fred Savage, where he had another face on the back of his head. That Punisher looks like he's gonna do some fucking damage. I like the nearly unknown cast. Fuck name stars.
-
...so possession and stigmata are the only two things that scare the absolute piss out of me. That and the notion of Indy IV.....fucking terrifying.
-
And twirling around blasting bad guys has been done before. Crashing the dinner party and standing on the table and shooting people has been done before. And the slo-mo bullet time thing of the explosion in the center of the circle of guys that throws them back looks like something right out of Wanted.<p>Don't get me wrong. I'll be there with bells on. And I love the lead guy. He was the tits in Rome.

Did I tell you I watched Pathfinder per your recommendation?
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
Talk about mindless violence. It was entertaining which is all you can ask I guess.<p>Moon Bloodgood is hot.<p>Clancy Brown needs more work outside of Spongebob.
-
Oh fuck....its gonna destroy that pansy ass cartoony bullshit. There is not one thing in action films that hasn't been done. And I wouldn't call something bullet-time unless it actually follows a CG bullet....otherwise its just slow mo.
-
I apologize in advance Danny, but it sort of looks like DTV work right now. I didn't care for the last Punisher movie though, either. <P> And, while horrible, I always have a soft spot for the campy Lundgren version. I'll catch this on dvd, maybe. Unless you lot report back it is terrible.
-
for our next round of movies, seeing as how it's likely to be fall, could we maybe get some horror films?
-
No love for Punisher? Fuck me. This new movie looks awesome. Its vengeful violence set to Dick Tracy's color palette. And its got the balls to be Hard R. Unlike most shit these days.
-
A solid piece of entertainment. That's 3 out of 4 of the movies that have been good. Looking forward to the discussions. I'm gonna move on to Antarctic Journal I think.
-
didn't the director of this get jetted before the film was finished? or was it just the score that was thrown out?
-
There are mixed stories. I dunno which is true......some say Lionsgate didnt like her cut and canned her and they are finishing it without her. Others say Lionsgate made their own cut and she didn't like theirs so she is re-editing it herself. I dunno.......all I know is that montage of blood and violence that was up here a few weeks ago walls balls to the wall awesome. This could be the most played DVD in my collection in 2009. Either this or Swallow My Pride #12.
-
Danny, remember Indy 4. Keep reasonable expectations.
-
I'll end up seeing The Spirit, and am pretty sure that one will end up sucking(though Im hoping against it).
-
With Indy IV I was expecting an overall phenomenal movie. With Punisher I'm expecting 5 minutes of dialogue and 120 minutes of bloods, guts, explosions, and loud fucking music. And I pray they sprinkle in some one liners......they alright got that line, "Sometimes I'd like to get my hands on God...." line in the trailer.
-
...please for the love of God pay for something else and sneak in. Don't give Frank Miller any reason to continue working!!
-
it's 90 minutes of sporadic, spastically edited action scenes? That was my feel from the trailer. It would be nice if it's good though.
-
Danny, my boy, I enjoyed the first Punisher, ten bucks says I'll enjoy this one. Yes, I like my action movies to be hard R and this looks like it will deliver to me. Remember, a more forgiving cinephile does not exist.<p>I didn't see Wanted but will on DVD and like Crank and Shoot Em Up, I'll probably enjoy it too. If it requires a glass of rum, so be it.<p>Jonah, it warms my heart that you enjoyed Mr. Socrates. It had some great performances.<p>As far as horror goes, I need to remind you, I'm just not a horror guy. I won't even watch the Japanese version of The Ring because it doesn't appeal to me. I watched R-Point and the Korean Red Eye and that stuff doesn't hold my interest. I'm not even a fan of the Hollywood stuff. I watched the first Nightmare and Halloween and Friday and that's it. I can't tell you anything else about Jason or Michael and Freddy.<p>Saw and Hostel sealed the deal for me. If I want to see gore, it best be because a mace or ax or 9MM slug is taking someone's head off.<p>But what I will do with the next package is send out different genres. For you married guys I can get out some dramas and romantic comedies. For you single guys......I'll figure something out.
-
I'm an Eisner fan, hence my interest. If it is revealed that it isn't true to Eisner or strays into Sin City territory, then I'm out. As is, I disliked Sin City, and was entertained by 300, but don't understand the extreme love for it.
-
When I said horror I was thinking of the stuff like Antarctic Journal or R-Point etc. Maybe just supernatural. I've been saving Antarctic Journal because of it's paranormal slant.
-
was while it had a plot that somewhat resembled Infernal Affairs or Korean crime thrillers, it did posess good writing, great acting and it had a pace to it that I liked. It made it easier to digest than most Korean crime flicks. The training of the lead was by far my favorite segment of the movie. And, all in all, it turns out to be quite good.
-
It was overall a bit too soft. But it had a lot of good shit packed in there.....the fight scene with Kevin Nash beating the shit out of Tom Jane for instance. The car crashes......most of the end assault. The opening family massacre on Castle's family. A lot of good stuff in there. I think it was a huge mistake to set it in Florida. Tax breaks are a bullshit excuse to completely change the feel and atmosphere of a film. If you don't have the budget.....then don't make it. It also needed another pass at the script and someone that wasn't a first time director. It just felt a little too flat and uninspired. But that being said....it is still a hell of a lot of fun. And Travolta's got some great one-liners, "She caught the train...." for instance.
-
the various assassins sent to kill him, like the evil guitar guy and the giant Russian. I sort of enjoyed the apartment complex misfits, but the rest was IMO rather boring. And seeing Roy Schieder was also a plus.
-
I liked the dad asks him, "What the fuck are you wearing?"
-
Check out this youtube - it is creepy as hell. And real. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww
-
First, I figure we could do a recap of stuff we have seen this summer, but for perspective, let's reach back to last summer first. What did you guys see last summer? the highlights? the disappointments? can we remember back that far?
-
With so few I feel like I have to take what I can get.<p> I want Rambo-level gore though.<p> I don't know why I like that so much.<p> That said, I enjoyed the first Punisher and wished they would have saved "The Russian" until the end.
-
and if I were rating that, I'd say it's a 2.5 out of a 5. I wasn't hugely letdown by it, because while I enjoyed the first two films, I, for some reason, was very wary of the next Spidey. I guess my reservation was that I wasn't sure how they would cram so much in. And it looks like I was right. <P> I enjoyed it as a summer special effects movie for a single viewing. It had a ton of problems, and sadly they were the types of things that prevented it from taking it's good parts, it's solid ideas and it's cool sequences and getting them in line and making them form a solid movie. It's more of a missed opportunity than a disappointment, but yea, I'd come down just slightly on the positive side, making this an O.K. movie.
-
It is uneven at best. It has some good performances and even though it's all snow, I liked the cinematography but as with most Korean thrillers bordering on the supernatural, it falls apart by the end. It's worth watching once though.<p>As far as Asian supernatural stuff goes, I've seen more than I own but I should be able to hook you up.

whoa this is weird....from Lexi Alexander's official site....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
I guess she is off Punisher. She took down all the old blogs about the film and now she just has one post where she talks about some expensive sports car and closes the entry with this..... <p> " Now for me it’s time to move on and look towards the future. The way I see it, no matter if you work in an Ice cream shop, or a textile mill or in lovely peaceful Hollywood, life is all about getting the full experience. If things would always go smooth, it wouldn’t even be a half ass experience. You gotta win it all, lose it all, start from the beginning, get it all back and so on. Exciting times. " <p> Weird.
-
Saw that last summer too I think. Was a 3 out of 5. If any of you have seen it, it totally felt like the edgy indie stuff you could find on video back in the late 90s, like Cube or Chasing Sleep or whatever. I think Ashley Judd was awesome in the role, and in fact all of the actors (Harry Connick Jr. included) did well. It's stage play origin often made it feel more low budget than simply claustrophobic, but overall it worked well. I liked it and found it both kind of funny and kind of sad. I kept waiting for it to really take off, but it was mostly slowburn until it just became "burn".
-
When that kicked the Big Dog, wouldn't it have been funny of they didn't tell him they had prgrammed in self-defense.<p> That thing's eyes turn red and turns on that guy, disboweling him with quick slash of his front leg.<p> But you are right that is creepy, as Skynet is right around the corner.
-
I guess we will see what happens.

Spidey 3 ranks among the wrost superhero flicks of all time
by toadkillerdog
New Topic: Worst superhero flicks.Just the 'major' releases -excluding the one offs, and cheapies. <p> 1) Superman IV <p> 2) Spidey 3 <p> 3) Superman 3 <p> 4) Batman Forever <p> 5) Superman Returns <p>
-
Seeing Max Pyane then Punisher 2.
-
<p> Spiderman 3 -- I liked it. It was a pretty fun time. Doesn't have the replay value of the first two but.....wait.....a month later I watched the first two on DVD and realized they call kinda suck. I'm fucking sick of Spiderman....moving on. <p> I refused to see Pirates, Oceans 13, Rush Hour 3, or Evan Almighty.....they all looked like bullshit. <p> Fantastic Four 2 -- I liked it. A lot better than the first film. I really liked the work on The Surfer. If I was 10, this movie would fucking rock. <p> Transformers -- Yup...I saw it. First time with my brother back to back with Die Hard 4. Its funny because I thought Transformers would be the slightly better of the two. PG-13 Die Hard....what the fuck? No smoking? Fuck you. Turns out I almost fell asleep in Transformers and then I had a damn fun time with Die Hard at 11:00 at night! I couldn't really tell if I liked Transformers though....there was so much shit on the screen, I couldn't really judge it until I watched it with a friend on DVD and realized, Holy shit!! This movie is trash!! <p> Harry Potter -- Awesome awesome awesome. These movies rock. Always have a damn fun time with them. My only complaint was it was released in the summer....what the fuck? Potter should be fall/winter films.
-
More like 4th best! I love that movie!

Here's where you guys learn just how forgiving I am
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
From last year released May through August:<p>Spider-Man 3 - hated it<p>Die Hard 4 - passable<p>Shrek 3 - loved it<p>Superbad - liked it<p>Transformers - hated it<p>PotC3 - hated it<p>Simpsons Movie - loved it<p>HP and Order of Phoenix - loved it<p>Bourne Ultimatum - liked it<p>Ratatouille - loved it<p>Knocked Up - liked it<p>Rush Hour 3 - refuse to see it<p>Ocean's 13 - loved it<p>Evan Almighty - too bland to form an opinion<p>Bulls of Fury - enjoyed it<p>Stardust - loved it<p>Yet, not one single film in that list is anywhere near my top 10 list.
-
I couldnt look at it here, but I've seen the Big Dog video many times. I think the fact it looks like a giant fly, with that buzzing sound too, makes it a very creepy thing to witness.
-
Are my only two movie going experiences this year. This fall will be like a three month long orgasm for me.
-
I was thinkng the same thing. That guy is fucked. Big Dog will remember that kick in the ribs!
-
TMNT - Best Turtles EVER! <P> FFFFFFAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTT! <P> Die Hard 4! &$&*ing Great! <P> FFFAARRRTTTT <P> Oh the Simpsons movie is pretty good. <P> FAAAARRRRRTTT <P> Wow Sunshine was only in theaters for a weekend. <P> FAAAAAARRRRRTTT!!!!!!!!!!!! All the way till 2008! 07 Sucked. <P> Honorable mentions: 300 (just the trailer), The Condemded, Ratatioulle, Grind House, Hot Fuzz, Aquen Teen Movie, and the Pirates movie for being the only entertaining one of the bunch. I would put TWBB on there, but since 99% of the people who saw that movie in theaters saw it in Jan 08 doesn't really give it that 07 stink.
-
Transformers, besides that useless mind blowing effects that somehow didn't win an Oscar? Was that for a movie where a giant ass kicking semi truck robot should be the lead charachter, it didn't even have the most awesome scene involving a semi truck. That goes to Die Hard. No matter how over the top that scene was you know you loved every second of it the first time you saw it.
-
From last year released May through August:<p> Spider-Man 3 - hated it - me too!<p> Die Hard 4 - passable - I liked it. <p> Shrek 3 - loved it. same here. <p> Superbad - liked it. I loved it. <p> Transformers - hated it. It was ok. <p> PotC3 - hated it. Ditto. <p> Simpsons Movie - loved it. It was ok. <p> HP and Order of Phoenix - loved it. Ditto. <p> Bourne Ultimatum - liked it. Loved it. <p> Ratatouille - loved it. I liked it. <p> Knocked Up - liked it. Did not see it. <p> Rush Hour 3 - refuse to see it. Blah. <p> Ocean's 13 - loved it. It was ok. <p> Evan Almighty - too bland to form an opinion. Did not see it. <p> Bulls of Fury - enjoyed it. Refused to see it. <p> Stardust - loved it. Did not see it. <p>
-
Everytime you mention the fall, I keep thinking you mean the movie The Fall. Which was awesome but I had a nasty allergy attack in the theaters and probably didn't enjoy it as much as I should. Wish I could've seen it again, but it was in theaters for one weekend. Thats 2 weekends shorter then Postal was in theaters.
-
That was last year? Fuck that feels like 3 years ago......but yeah-- that thing fucking rocks. Great fight scenes, great dialogue, best chemistry with the turtles we've ever seen, good music. Fuck yes.
-
Spidey 3 2.5/5 I thought it was O.K. but never returned to it. <P> Bug 3/5 I enjoyed it and found it a creepy little movie. <P> POTC 3- 3.5/5 This is where I differ from most of you guys. I actually really enjoyed this movie. Loved the scene with the crabs and the ship, loved Barbossa back, the giant battle at the end. Yes, there were some serious bits that were off-the Pirate Elders scene, the entire character played by Chow Yun Fat. Yet I still had fun with it and it reminded me in spirit of the Harryhausen myth epics of yesteryear, but of course not as good. <P> Shrek 3- 1.5/5 BLAH! <P> Oceans 13- 2/5 Yawn! <P> Paris Je T'aime-4/5 I loved this movie. Not every short film hit it's mark perfectly(while others did, i.e. Coen bros.) but the parts added together made an endearing whole. <P> Ratatouille-5/5 Yea, I LOVED it. <P> 1408- 3.5 This was a good creepy, brief but effective horror movie. It does what it needs to do, and it does it really well. Cusack was great in it. <P> 28 Weeks Later- 3/5 A fun but not spectacular horror flick. I enjoyed it, but was in no way comparable to the great original. <P> Die Hard 4- 3/5 I liked it. It was fun. A good time. <P> Transformers- 3/5 Dopey, but it had giant robots and for some reason it's silly sci-fi tone worked for me. <P> Harry Potter 5- 4/5 Yea, it was awesome. <P> Sunshine-4/5 We have been over this, but fix the last third and this might have been a 5. <P> Simpsons Movie-3/5 Loved watching it, but barely remembered it after the fact. Which is not typical for the Simpsons, where Im qouting lines for months after. <P> Paprika-4/5 Great anime. Trippy, beautifully designed, and has a cool story with interesting characters. <P> Stardust-4/5 A great little fantasy movie. Underrated, even now. <P> Bourne Ultimatum-4/5 Easily the best of the Bourne movies. <P> Becoming Jane-3.5/5 Yea, make fun of me. I liked it. Alot. <P> Daywatch- 3/5 I enjoyed it, and thought it was better than the first film.
-
1) Ghost Rider<p>2) Batman and Robin<p>3)FF2 (sorry Danny)<p>4)Superman III<p>5) Spiderman 3<p>6) Blade 3<p>7) FF1<p>8) Elektra<p>9) Batman Forever<p>10) Spawn<p>I haven't seen Catwoman but I'm sure that belongs in there somewhere.

I will never understand the love for Ratatouille
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
I kinda, sorta, liked Spawn. But then again, I do not remember it very well. maybe I need to see it again. Or perhaps I am thinking of the animated version.
-
Jeez, look at you bringing all that fancy indie stuff into the mix.<p>I guess I'll have to rent TMNT now. Nothing but glowing reviews from this bunch.<p>And I still haven't watched 1408, Daywatch or 28 Weeks Later.
-
Its very difficult for me to NOT have a fun time with a superhero film. These are the only 3 I do not enjoy watching... <p> 1) X-Men 3 (also on my worst 10 films of all time with budget over 50 million.) <p> 2) Superman III <P> 3) Batman Begins
-
1. Captain America 2. Any movie involving the Crow that didn't star Brandon Lee. 3. Superman 4 4. Batman and Robin 5. The Death of the Incredible Hulk 6. Ghost Rider 7. Fantastic Four 1 8. Spawn 9. Superman 3 10. Tank Girl
-
I dig talking mice that sound like Patton Oswalt. And my daughter goes cuckoo bananas whenever I put it in. Just watching her jump up and down on the couch makes me enjoy movies even more.
-
Me, I'm still hoping to catch Transsiberian, Tell No One, Man on Wire, Mummy 3 and Get Smart(the cheap theater just picked this up, but until those have been seen...here's the list.
-
In any genre from any country that this group 100% agrees on?

by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Fuck. I miss those days. That shithole went out of business for a rat infestation.
-
...that The Patriot is the best movie of all time.
-
1. Iron Man-4.5/5 I was not prepared to like this as much as I did. I didnt follow it religiously through it's production, and I think that helped. The film did feel like a fleshed out version of the trailer, but everything was so well done, and beyond technical proficiency there was a clarity and simplicity to it, and there was actual joy in the movie-joy in performances, joy in action scenes, joy in special effects. It was a great marriage of the best aspects of 80s summer films and 90s summer films to give us one of the most entertaining superhero movies yet. <P> Speed Racer-4/5 I told everyone all year long how this would be the giant bomb of 2008. And I was right about that part. But I was SO wrong about it's quality. I personally feel that the Wachowski's have created something as good as The Matrix here. The problem with gauging this is that SR is a fresh, mind-bending action flick for kids, and Matrix was for teens and adults. But to be honest, it's every bit as fun, creative and sometimes overly excessive as that other movie of theirs. Yea, call me out. Go ahead. <P> Prince Caspian-4/5 Again, didnt expect this. I only liked the first one. This one was a great fantasy movie, and expanded the world, utilized it's child actors in ways that didnt make me want to slap them, and actually gave some of the Potter films a run for their money in the darkness and poignancy department. <P> Indy 4- 4/5 I loved it. I kept waiting to hate it. I was almost disappointed that it wasn't horrible, because except for some cgi monkeys, I didnt feel like there was much to criticize Lucas for. <P> this is getting long, gotta split it up..
-
But I refuse to see anything on those small screens with the 20 year old chairs that are like sitting on cinder blocks and a sound system that's only slightly better than what I had in my '86 Ford Tempo.<p>Wanted, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and Prince Caspian are playing there right now. Jesus, didn't some of these only open last month? I miss the days as a kid when a movie played on the same screen for 3 or 4 months. These punk ass kids today can't appreciate a damn thing.
-
MORE LIKE tenth best superhero movie ever!
-
Leguizamo is fucking insane in that thing. And American Werewolf Devil in Hell.......hell yeah!! Anyone who doesnt appreciate Spawn has never experienced a female sitting on their face.
-
Looking forward to going home tonight and watching some blood splattering action and drinking a raspberry wheat ale.<p>A dress shirt has never felt more uncomfortable than it does today.
-
Danny, I think thats the best explanation of Spawn I've ever heard.
-
I'm at work as well! But since the fire we only have to weat a collered shirt and it can be untucked, shorts and flip flops. Its been awesome in this heat.
-
And Da Vinci code are on my list of worst movies ever. Mainly because with all that talent it should've at least been entertaining.
-
I just saw it the one time in the theater but I remember thinking the PG-13 rating was killing the sadistic glory of the comic book. And Michael Jai White felt wrong to me. John Leguizamo was in it? Yeah, I don't remember that. I do remember so horrible fireplace scene. And an opening attack on an airport that felt neutered.<p>Good list LibWar. I don't hate Superman Returns yet. I think if I watched it a second time I'd call for Singer's head.
-
Son of Rambow-4.5 This one is coming soon guys. I definitely want us to synchronize a watching. I think you will all love it. So far it's on my best of 08 list. <P> The Fall-5/5 For me, an almost perfect movie. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this. It's that special kind of movie that you long to own on dvd even as the lights are coming up after your first viewing. Where you walk by the ticketbox on your way out and briefly consider seeing it again, immediately. <P> Children of Huang Shi-2/5 Chow and Yeoh in a movie together again, but they don't share any scenes and they play second fiddle to some bland characters. It's watchable. Thats it. <P> The Happening-1/5 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! <p> Incredible Hulk-3.5 Wasn't perfect, but really really liked it. But then I really like Ang Lee's version as well. <p> Wall E-5/5 Brilliant. <P> Journey to Center of the Earth-3/5 I enjoyed it, and in 3d. It wasnt as bad as Harry says. <P> Hellboy 2-4.5/5 Just awesome. Really, I know some didnt like it, but this one really hit the mark for me and my expectations were pretty high by the time I saw it. <P> Dark Knight-5/5 Deserves its accolades and success. <P> X-Files 2-3.5/5 Odd, but I liked it quite a bit, and it was good to see the duo again. <P> Kung-Fu Panda in Imax-4/5 I loved this movie! Another that caught me by surprise.

Catwoman and Elektra are entertaining as fuck
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
And they both feature hot ass scantily clad women beating the shit out of people. What the fuck man? Complaining about these films is equivalent to complaining about a POV blowjob porn and saying, "She looks at the camera too much."
-
Curse you! Yeah, my employer is beyond stiff. We can't even wear golf shirts for crying out gloyvin. And they don't have a casual day.<p>Of course the women here can get away with wearing whatever they want but us men get bent over hard.<p>Danny, I had a girlfriend many moons ago that would sit on my face but that's like a past life to me now.
-
If that last line is true, you must mean then that people who enjoy Spawn just like having their eyes buried in a**. And I agree, Spawn was a**. <P> Just kidding buddy. Leguizamo was awesome in that. I was probably too hard on it.
-
...to take away the most forgiving movie guy title away from me? I can deal with Daredevil but Elektra put me to sleep.
-

So what's this Black Lagoon anime thing about?
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
It promises violence, violence and more violence.
-
than yes, the Patriot is the best movie of all time.
-
Crazy crazy crazy. He really doesnt get enough credit for this role. I think the worst part about Spawn was Martin Sheen with that jet black beard and the inconsistent fx work. Some shit looked amazing for the time (his CG cape for instance) other shit looked embarrassing (werewolf devil). <p> I had the soundtrack to this thing...fuck that thing rocked. Great hard rockin' music. Manson's Long Hard Road Out of Hell duo with Sneaker Pimps is a particularly fun time.
-
Loved them. Manson, not so much.
-
that was also a pretty cool movie with Asano as Khan. 3.5/5.
-
and I missed it?
-
Manson is inconsistent, but his singles are great. Beautiful People, Dope Show, Sweet Dreams of course. That guy was fun back in the day. I'm a little old for it now.......he has his own label of absynthe now called MANSINTH. hahaha.
-
I had a late lunch.
-
just to beat the tropic thunder TB. Which we might have just accomplished.
-
HOD....I am sorry the face sitting seems like many moons ago to you. There is nothing like a warm anus on your lips. <p> Jonah....very funny joke about having your eyes buried in ass because Spawn is ass. I laughed. Thank you.
-
In all seriousness, I bet this group would be great at an At The Movies type show. It would take us an hour to review a single movie but it would be entertaining as hell.
-
Its not nearly as bad as people make it seem. There are some scenes that should go (playground wire-fu shit) but all in all its an okay movie and Affleck was decent in the role. I have yet to see the R rated cut....anyone catch that?
-
Pillow, Chitty, Fred, kungfu and jarv, are all missing.
-
But Libwar seems to be joining in.
-
i agree about Daredevil It is not as bad as some have made it out to be. I thought all three leads were good.
-
Dardevil?
-
The 30 minutes of additional footage adds an important subplot about the murder of a hooker which is pinned on street thug (Coolio). The fight sequence at the end between Kingpin and Daredevil is longer and more involved. Many of the fight sequences are cut with an "R" rating movie in mind (and that's what this DVD version received as its rating).
-
actually ditches the sex scene altogether on Daredevil. It's actually a bit better movie, but still not awesome. However, I thought Daredevil was fine. WAAYY better than Ghost Rider.
-
My wife bought it for me. And she never buys me movies. I have yet to watch it though.<p>I'm curious to see the director's cut of Punisher though.
-
Is there any added violence or is it mainly just more storyline kinda stuff? What would make it R?
-
I liked when Bulleyes broke the glass and used them as weapons.<p> But I also agree on Elektra. I was bored to tears. I always wanted Garner to take up the Firestarter role and give it some action.
-
One of only two movies where I liked the soundtrack better (Singles being the other one). I have the Spawn soundtrack on my Ipod and it is very good workout music.<p> Favorite part is when Spawn looks down after doing a defensive transformation and says simply "Hell yeah."<p> I still laugh at that scene and where they ran out of money for the pixal devil. Looked like he was made of Legos.
-
How bout them blueberrys?
-
I think the violence is a little harder, but it's still not gonna make you say "HOLY CRAP, LOOK AT THAT!". What is never said is that all UNRATED cuts are that way because they are adding new footage to an already approved cut, and in order to earn a rating they would have to resubmit it for a rating. If you have ever watched the unrated cut of something and wondered why it was that way, since it technically wasn't harder than the original, this is why. All those horrors and comedies that add UNRATED to their titles are usually full of it. If you added new footage to March of the Penguins and didn't resubmit it for a rating, you would have MARCH OF THE PENGUINS: THE UNRATED SPECIAL EXTREME EDITION.
-
Better than the movie.
-
as does The Village. But Im talking scores, and not necessarily a "soundtrack" of songs.
-
I actually saw that movie about the killer lift or elevator thing.<p> I rank it right above the killer sweater-making machine in the Mangler.<p> I always laugh at The Mangler because we always called people with both sexual organs "Boston Manglers".<p> Needless to say I was disappointed when I saw the actual movie.
-
The movie was very long and felt even longer in the theater.<p> Big surprise that Death's weakness is high-dollar poon.<p> Isn't that most people's weakness?<p> Do agree on the score for it and the score for The Village which is amazing.<p> The Gravel Road and What Are You Asking Me are stunning works.
-
Most of the time Unrated shit is crap. But the Director's Cut of Daredevil was the original version submitted which got an R rating. Then the studio wanting him to deliver a PG-13 and trim it down to a shorter running time.
-
...I think its one of the few films were Pitt works a little bit.
-
Rank Brad Pitts geek oriented movies.
-
Yesterday I sent a box of pre-sharpened #2 pencils to Apatow Productions with the note "Courtesy of DannyGlovers Dickblood and the Church of Chang." I hope you guys don't mind.<p>I figure it will give him something to talk about at next years Comic-Con.
-

-
First time it's ever happened to me.
-
Such as when he is discovering earthly things.<p> I love a good fish-out-of-water story, but I think they could have cut it down to a tighter movie.<p> Claire Forlani was smoking hot though.
-
As long as you didn't send 2for2true with the pencils Apatow and gang will be safe.<p> I wonder what kind of response that will get?
-
I asked a couple weeks ago if anyone thought it would be a good idea. No one responded. Last week I was driving by Office Depot and I said f-it and bought a box of 12. I only got around to mailing it yesterday.
-
Muahahahahahahaha
-
You are DA MAN!
-
Danny-Yea, the main difference is in the final fight with Kingpin, some of the blows are connecting, and in other scenes the violence is intact. It's less jump-cutty than the original, for those reasons. There may be more language. I don't recall Danny. <P> Also, I liked Meet Joe Black, but the score is better than the movie. In fact the score elevates the movie.
-
Cool Wolrd. Interview with a vampire. Seven. 12 monkeys. Fight Club. Those are just off top of my head.
-
Twelve Monkeys and Seven are Pitt's finest moments, at least I think so.
-

Favorite Pitt performance in geek oriented movie
by ChittyChittyGangBang
He was off the wall in 12 Monkeys and I liked him in Fight Club.<p> But Se7en is also very good work.
-
but wasnt sure if that was a "geek" movie.
-
Pitt has way more stinkers than I remember but his best movies are some of my all time favorites.
-
that doesnt care much for Fight Club. Go figure.
-
Weird how a country can "ban" someone.<p> What do they do, turn him away at the airport or what?
-
and after guessing the twist less than half way in, I started getting restless with it. Enough time has passed, and I've changed enough, it's quite possible I'll feel different on it now.
-
Because Snatch is a great f-ing movie and Brad Pitt owns all our arses in that role.
-
Aug. 12, 2008, 1:39 p.m. CST
Pitt....aww crap let me think. He kinda sucks so....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
All because he made a movie about Tibet. We need to send Frank Castle after the Chinese government.
-
...here are my favorites of his. These are performances.....not necessarily movies. I like Seven....I just think he is kinda the weak link in it. Everything else in that film is better than him IMO. <p> 1) River Runs Through It <p> 2) Legends of the Fall <p> 3) Seven Years In Tibet <p> 4) Meet Joe Black <p> 5) Spy Game
-
where are you from man? I went to high school in Alabama (I'm in Oregon now) and we used to go to Krystals all the time. and that ectasy T-rex story was fucking hilarious.
-
but what are some really good film scores you guys would recommend? I'm looking for stuff to listen to while I write and stuff, and I'm open to anything.
-
Because I'm more knowledgeable about stuff from the 80s and 90s.
-
sing behind you. Get me some sauza and I will dance too.
-
happy somebody else saw the Fall. It really is an incredible movie. I love the littlr girl's interpretation of the story and how it was according to her culture and knowledge of the world.
-
just good stuff. like Last of the Mohicans, etc. anything
-
Dances With Wolves, Band of Brothers, Brick, River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, The Rocketeer, Willow, The Untouchables... <p> Some of my favorites..
-
you can almost never go wrong with the work of James Newton Howard. Almost all of the collaborations he has done with Shyamalan have been good, save the Happening. It had a useless score. <P>
-
Grew up in east central Mississippi in Philadelphia (yes, the town with all the racial history) and now live a little closer (and further north) to Alabama border in West Point.<p>
-
I'm going to start at 1988 and go to 2000 and I'm sure to miss a bunch (so go easy on me) but these are the ones that immediately come to mind:<p>1988 - Willow<p>1989 - Glory<p>1990 - Dances With Wolves<p>1991 - Hook, The Rocketeer<p>1992 - Last of the Mohicans<p>1993 - Jurassic Park, Gettysburg<p>1994 - Shawshank<p>1995 - Braveheart, Apollo 13<p>1996 - Dragonheart<p>1997 - Fifth Element<p>1998 - Meet Joe Black, Saving Private Ryan, Dark City<p>1999 - I'm drawing a blank here<p>2000 - The Patriot, Perfect Storm, Gladiator<p>Everything there gets frequent play on the old iPod.
-
that's great man! just what I wanted. Thank you all! This is very much appreciated. Knew I could count on you guys to offer up some great opinions and suggestions.
-
Aug. 12, 2008, 2:09 p.m. CST
you know the Lost World soundtrack is really great....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...as well. That gets overlooked. Some great adventure trek music.
-
...but I think he made a deal with the devil when it comes to Glory. That is so far above and beyond anything he's done (and let's face it, Willow and The Rocketeer rock) that he was on a different plane of inspiration when he composed it.
-
If you have access to Itunes or feel like doing a little shopping, you can get great deals on film scores.<p> There always seems to be a "Best of" cd or package with Itunes.<p> Can't really go wrong with James Newton Howard, John Williams (of course), Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator), Howard Shore, Klaus Badelt, Michael Giacchino, Bill Conti.<p> I have really just scratched the surface, but you just have to investigate and see what you like.
-
...the Harlem Boys Choir. Now everyone and their mother (I'm looking at you Zimmer) has some Enya-ish choir chick in the background.
-
My favorite is Thunderball.
-
Bear McCreary's Battlestar Galactica stuff is interesting.<p>Michael Giacchino did soundtracks for the Medal of Honor games and those rock. Totally bombastic stuff. You really feel like you're mowing down Nazis from the back of a jeep as it races through the French countryside.
-
Speaking of choirs triggered a memory. The very first movie I saw, or for that matter, mass entertainment of any sort that i saw that used a backing choir was The Idolmaker. That was truly a fantastic movie, with awesome music. I may have to dig that up.
-
Head down to your local used CD store and raid their soundtrack section. You'll find it's treated as a bargain bin since morons are eager to give that stuff away but not so to pick it up.
-
Where do you guys find this stuff?<p>Sometimes I wonder if these TBs have opened up into another dimension and I'm talking to guys in an alternate universe because you dudes know the most obscure stuff.
-
It is only because I am older than you are. I have seen things...
-
Not only great music, and great story, it was a damn good movie. Taylor Hackford directed it.
-
Ecspecially when they allow you to use your credit card and just click away.<p> Go to Wal-Mart, Big Lots, K-Mart or wherever and we must be the only people on earth who buys these scores, as they are discounted heavily.<p> There was a two or three disc Williams hits that was just over ten bucks at Walmart.<p> Also good place is pawn shops, as most people (whether stolen or whatever) don't even take the wrapping off and try and get a little money from pawning it.<p> Of course be careful as I witnessed a mugging the last time I went to one around here.
-

by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Buy the CD and rip that shit if you want Mp3s. Then you have the hard copy.
-
For those that have hi-def, or those who dont, what movies are worth owning in hi-def? Having bluray for a handful of months now,(since May) I try to balance what I pick up between reg dvds and blurays. If I'm buying something brand new release, I usually go bluray, but I'm also hesitant about restocking my collection. So far it's been for stuff I, or my wife, really love and feel would benefit from bluray. <P> Any thoughts?
-
what movies do you view as must own in hi-def, or what stuff would you look to update if you had hi-def?
-
He does the bad ass Back To The Future trilogy....and really nothing else worth mentioning. Sure he has done all Zemeckis shit since....but none of them have memorable scores really. Now he is scoring Hannah Montana: The Movie. FUCK YES!!!
-
Did he direct the Devil's Advocate?<p>With my luck, the one time I go to a pawn shop it'll get robbed and the bastard will pull a Regarding Henry on me and put one in my noggin and I'll forget I ever saw Ghost Ride.........I'll be right back.
-
...and with the cost of the discs being what they currently are, I would only buy HD movies that I regularly watched once or twice a year. If it's something I have to blow the dust off to watch, standard def will do.
-
looks like this: <P> 2001: A Space Odyssey <P> There Will Be Blood <P> Blade Runner: Complete Edition <P> Dark City: Director's Cut <P> Big Fish <P> Road Warrior <P> Adventures of Baron Munchausen <P> A Passage to India <P> Gattaca <P> Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix <P> The Spiderwick Chronicles <P> Terminator 2: Judgment Day <P> The Fountain <P> Galapagos <P> Pan's Labyrinth <P> The Fifth Element <P> Any added suggestions?
-
I know I'm behind like always. <P> First off HOD thats awesome! <P> Secondly my high school physics teacher was an extra on Meet Joe Black (all his scenes got cut, surprised cutting was made on that film) and while not really liking the film he said that those scenes where Friori is supossed to be cold that that was natural for her because she was unheathly skinny. That her and Brad Pitt were huge dicks and never talked with the extras, they just hung in their trailers, while Hopkins was out with the extras the whole time telling jokes and stories and drinking with them. Personally I would prefer to hang with Hopkins any way. He seems like a crazy old man, who you probably couldn't keep up with.
-
...and Contact, both great scores.
-
Aug. 12, 2008, 2:41 p.m. CST
Yeah...the hack Taylor Hackford did direct that...
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
...and a ton of other shitty movies. Really the only cool thing he has ever done is Blood In, Blood Out. A bad ass movie about cholos in San Fernando Valley. <p> But really....who fucking cares what kinda movies he makes if he is nailing Hellen Mirren every night.
-
Aug. 12, 2008, 2:41 p.m. CST
anyone see that pic of Helen in a bikini recently?
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
Get Sunshine.
-
How can you hear it behind all that fucking gun-fire? Hahahaha.
-
That's basically what I have been doing thus far, except obviously with Spiderwick, which was selling 22 bucks for the 2 disc standard, and 24 for the bluray, so I opted for bluray. <P> All of those others were ones I watch at least once a year, maybe not Harry Potter 5, Passage to India, and There Will Be Blood, but they are likely to pass into similar regualr rotation.
-
The Final Fantasy Spirits Within score is a blinder.
-
I recently had picked it up on standard def though-hit the blockbuster 4 for 20 a while back, and got that, No Country for Old Men, Paris Je T'aime and Into the Wild.
-
She had a song on FF: The Spirits Within and one on A.I. soundtrack that same summer. Anyone remember her?
-
and picked up Lars and the Real Girl, I'm Not There and Assassination of Jesse James in their 3 for 20 sale. My wife tries hard to keep me out of their, but it's difficult.
-
Fantasy Spirits within? Looking at it though as just a movie not Final Fantasy movie. Anyone seen Advent Children?
-
I was at a get-together Friday night and someone brought up Indy IV (I wish Danny could have been there).<p> Come to find out Lucas and Speilberg were having trouble finding just the right hat, as the past person or company had stopped making them.<p> So this guy says that the hats for Indy IV were made just one over from the town I live in.<p> I thought that was weird and wondered how in the hell that came about.<p>
-
You liked Lars and the Real Girl? It looked cool. I haven't seen it.
-
We were talking about Final Fantasy the other day...you weren't here? I appreciate it. I dont understand what the fuck is going on but I think some of that shit has still never been been in animation. Some of the hand-held stuff is amazing.
-
Ended up loving that movie, only saw it because my buddy asked me to return some movies for him to BB and that was one. <P> As for Lars I agreed with Emily Mortimer character when she goes off on Lars for pretty much just being a dick. And the movie really didn't go anywhere.
-
By some guy that makes hats over there.<p> This guy at the party even bought one, although he didn't have it with him.
-
Advent Children is just singularly for people who played games. It's like a long cut scene. As I didnt play the games, my enjoyment was limited. It honestly felt about like watching a glossier version of a scifi channel original in the sense that I didnt know what was going on, why it was happening, nor did I care, but lots of potentially cool stuff was on the screen so I kept looking at it. <P> Spirit's Within was interesting. I saw it the night before it came out, because we had friends who worked at the Regal, and let us in at like 1 a.m. to preview the print. So, it was me(who hadn't played any of the games except the first for NES and the second for SNES), my 3 college buds who all ADORED the games, and about ten other geeks who all wanted to see the movie succeed. And I was really tired. I loved the animation, and didn't mind the story and regard the movie as a decent film, but it's just a little too cold for my tastes. It feels like it holds you at a distance. Part of me thinks if it had been live action people, I would have hailed it as a masterpiece. As it is, it was that rare oddity in he summer of 2001: a movie that didn't suck.
-
I'd have stuff like Starship Troopers, Rambo, 3:10 to Yuma, The Patriot, Patton, Master and Commander, DC of Troy, Apocalypto, DC of Kingdom of Heaven, The Untouchables, Full Metal Jacket, ID4, Gattaca, Total Recall, Shinobi, The Thing, Die Hard, Predator, Robocop, Kung Fu Hustle, Oldboy nad The Final Countdown on Blu-ray.<p>I'm with Danny, I don't want to give in to this HD mess but that list has me drooling on the keyboard.
-
Yeah with my office set up right now, my computer faces out towards everyone so I can't have AICN rocking out all day long. Plus I've been busy at night getting ready to move.
-
I loved the movie Lars. I don't think the movie persay meanders, it's just it's all about it's characters, and it tracks internal growth mostly, so it can seem slow. However, all whom I've showed it to have loved it. <P> Best gauge: Did you like The Station Agent? If you enjoy that sort of film, Lars might work for you. It worked for me in a big way. It was def one of my top ten last year.
-
Which sounds like a dick statement, but its true. I love films for films.....not for the picture quality. DVD is good enough for me and always will be. I understand one day I will have to submit just because it will be an exclusive Blu Ray world. But until then-- fuck them....bring on the Standard Def deals!!
-
I saw Advent Children with someone who played the game like FF7 like three times. I had put a good amount of hours into the game, but never got further then the first disk. But he kept talking to me like we were on the same level of knowledge, I was like yeah this looks really cool, but I got no idea why its important. As for Spirits, I really liked that movie, own it on the DVD. I didn't understand why people hated it so much.
-
Or you have spawned another imposter - sort of. melgibsonsdickcheese.
-
X-Files 2. As movies they are going for something specific but totally ignoring their fanbase, and they are too strange for a mainstream audience that isnt in the fanbase, and they are both sort of downer stories. But, if you get by all that, it's just cool that they exist, and taken on their own they do work.
-
Can't forget John Williams for the Phantom Menace - Duel Of The Fates in particular. James Newton Howard for 6th Sense... But my favourite from that year would be Billy Corgan & Elia Cmiral's score for Stigmata. Thought the film was good too.<p>Also, the score for Plunkett & Maclean was interesting but I can't remember who did it. Film, mmmm, not so good.<p>It's still pissing down here. With thunder and lightning now. End of weather forecast.
-
She's looking good for an old broad.<p>I'll refrain from the "plow" and "nail" innuendo.
-
Angelina Jolie has been cast in an action heavy CIA spy thriller!! Yeeeeehah. Talk about casting against type!! The studios are mad-men!!
-
I mostly went for the hi-def when we got the projector. On a bigger screen, I was surprised that image quality did indeed make a bit of difference. However, I still pick up standard def stuff alot. Particularly the new dvds look pretty darn great. One of the sharpest lately was The Mist. It looked great, especially in that black and white version.
-
Always has been, always will be.
-
There's a guy out there with something about Han Solo's Carboite Penis or something. And a few others.
-
and the difference is noticeable, but it's still a bit under Hi-def.
-
Check this out. 63 fucking years old?!! Amazing. <p> http://tinyurl.com/5daecs

by toadkillerdog

For me JoBeth Williams in Poltergeist. She was fine as hell.
-
Princess Leia of course too.. maybe pre-dating Sigourney. Not sure. <P> wierdest crush as a kid was on the robot girl from SMALL WONDER. V.I..K.I. Her and the Childlike Empress from Neverending Story. Now, remember I was about their age, or younger at the time, so nothing creepy there.

There was a guy for awhile: DANNYGLOVERS_RICH_GAY_UNCLE <P> Haven't seen him around in awhile.
-
thing is none of that stuff will ever be funny or shocking, no matter what. Your odd decision on word combos is where all the comedy is, and it has been mined, my freind. Kudos.
-
Lieutenant Gay Ellis from the TV series UFO. Can't recall the name of the actress - Gabriella Drake?<p>Lilac coloured hair, short skirt, big jugs...
-
Half the cast of Moonraker and Flash Gordon. Even the "Fire when Gordon's in range!" chick turned me on.<p>But I probably didn't want to spank to anybody until Kate Capshaw in ToD.
-
Judy Garland I think...obviously for Wizard of Oz, and then later as saw more of his stuff, the movie-crush returned. To this day I can re-watch Meet Me in St. Louis at basically any given moment. The crush, of course, is gone though.
-
But V.I.C.K.I?
-
she was made up to look like a dead girl's corpse and yet as a kid I liked her. I don't even want to think about it.
-
That is a series I have not heard about in a while. We must be around the same age. Yes, she was hot. Servalan in Blakes 7 was even hotter though.
-
Man I thought she was hot.<p> Her parents advised her against doing anymore movies for fear of troubles of child actors in the day.<p> I think she is still dancing professionally (I mean ballet, not on a pole).
-
Not even sure I knew Grace Jones was a woman the first time I saw that flick.
-
and thanks to them, I don't have my memories tainted by the image of the Childlike Empress stumbling out of a limo into a crack infested ditch throwing up, and looking for johns, so she can scream "SAY MY NAAAAAMMME!!!"
-
Still, it made me look it up on imdb.
-
That Gary Busey reality show had a girl like her pretending to be a robot in an episode.<p> Needless to say it looked like Gary was about to pop another spring.<p>

First time I watched it, I didn't see the beginning and didn't know she was supossed to be a robot.<p> Needless to say I thought she was a terrible actor or just stoned.<p> But then I caught on.<p> But yeah, I wish everyone could see Busey's face when he thought that little girl was a robot.<p> Priceless.
-
should be on DVD. That and Tales from the Darkside and Monsters.

I'm With Busey is the only reality show thats real
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
Busey's reactions are far too genuine. Everything is scripted...he is just too permafried to catch on.
-
Linda Hamilton in Beauty and the Beast and Tasha Yarr.
-
I just searched Viki.<p>Jonah, go and take a cold shower. Pull yourself together, man!
-
I never thought she was hot at all and I crushed on nearly every actress.<p> I thought Miss Tessmakker (sp?) was lightyears ahead in hotness mainly due to her funbags and her face didn't look like a catcher's mitt due to unfiltered Camels.
-
Servalan, was not a s smokin hot as Gabrielle, but, Servalan, was twice a s sexy. In that skin tight suit, and threatening to kill everyone of Blakes crew! damn, the first two season of Servalan was the best of any female villain - then they watered her down.
-
I shall smite thee with her lilac wig for such insolence!<p>Never mind. Whatever floats yer boat, I say.
-
She was a knuckleduster in Supes.<p>Strangely, I never found any of the 80s brat pack chicks attractive.
-
Never thought Molly Ringwald was hot, or Ally Sheedy.<p> The girl I always had a crush on was Meredith Salenger.<p> Holy Shit she was hot (still is)
-
Servalan just had that extra oomph about her in the first two seasons.

I was just poking around Wiki and found Lake Placid 2
by ChittyChittyGangBang
I didn't know (or forgot) there was a Lake Placid 2!<p> I can understand them having Bo Duke as the lead, but how in holy hell did they get Cloris Leachmen!?!<p> She has an Oscar and more Emmys than any other person.<p> Geez that kind of stuff baffles me to no end.
-
The Angels out of Captain Scarlet. I'd have all them, one at a time or all together. Obviously if they were real - not the puppets. That would be just wrong.
-
It is called paying the bills.
-
Up there with Jonah and his love that dares to speak it's name V.I.C.K.I!
-
You would think she could have put some money away and just pick and choose what roles.<p> That's 62 years of acting. 62 YEARS!!<p> Or maybe she was playing bridge one day and one of friends dared her to do it.<p> I can't think of another example of this right now, except for Riddick getting Dame Judy Dench to come aboard.
-

Judi Dench is a party girl...I saw her in Cancun
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
-
I was watching the Great Outdoors and thought it was a coup to get her in that movie.<p> Then I remebered that was her first movie.<p> Amazing!<p>
-
I do not mean that in a bad way! hah! British actors have no fear or reluctance from moving between TV and movies and stage. Be it high drama or lowest schlock. American actors, still only want to work in movies, and take TV as a stepping stone. Money though, trumps all. You would think being in the biz a long time would earn you something, maybe it has, I am just speculating about Cloris Leachman - who BTW was a fine looking woman in her youth and middle age. But Patrick Ewing put it best when it came to making money. "Yeah, we make a lot of money, but we spend a lot too". <p> Remember how Robert Urich ended up? Selling tongue cleaners on TV. Acting is a hard biz.
-
I was venting my anger at Jaws: The Revenge and how filing that robbed Michael Caine of picking up his Oscar in person.<p> Then somebody said they read or heard a quote about asking Caine if he was going to watch Jaws: The Revenge.<p> He said he had no intention to but he has seen the house it helped pay for and it was beautiful.<p> Classic.
-
It has been freezing my screen when I've tried to load it. Is this happening to anybody else?<p>Points I've missed that I'll cover before bed.<p>1.Folks who want to go to Egypt, take me freely offered advice and don't. My suggestion, try Turkey instead.<p>2. A few things about South America. Columbia and Peru plus the major cities of Brazil and Agentina are considerd some of the most violent places in the world and the most with terroristic activities. That being said, Columbia rocks out and has the most beautiful women in the world. Just keep in mind you have a super good chance of being kidnapped. I fucking love Columbia but I'm goofy like that because I also love Afghanistan.<p>Hot broads that caused you to want to do the five knuckle shuffle on the ol piss pump as kid, here's my nominations. I can't believe nobody brought up Jacqueline Bisset in the Deep or Jaclyn Smith from Charlie's Angels. Good Lord they are tremendous looking trim.<p>Good night off to sleep.
-
Jonah's right, that does look very creepy. Possession movies always get me when the victim starts talking in another voice. The hairs go up on the back of my neck every single time.
-
That lame British show after the almighty letterman with a sweet rocking TED stache and he could pull off Mario for a Mario Brothers movie. But seeing that Pixar is going to make that movie, guess it won't be live action.

I just read a funny article with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
<p> He says he has three rules for appearing in a film: <p> "You can't kill me, I want to win all my fights, and I get the girl at the end of the movie, if I want her. Those are my three Hollywood rules. "

I thought I'd have something to do when I got home... oh well double feature from Netflicks of Bad LT. and Troll 1 and 2, I guess thats a triple header.
-
on the Clone Wars thread.<p>The Fincher thread has inevitably turned to the merits (or lack of) of Alien 3.<p>Don't know what happened to this one. Everyone just disappeared. Boof!
-
Ciao.
-
I still say you can't go past platoon. There is an aussie one called, 'the odd angry shot' and hamburger hill. I'm in the reserves and these two guys joined our unit at the same time, and they look similar. One moved on before too long but he was the first to join. Everyone from the officers to the sergent (our platoons only have one) down get the second guy confused with the first guy, so i started calling him spagetti. he says 'why do you call me spagetti?' i say, have you ever seen hamburger hill? He says no. so i tell him, there is guy in hamburger hill and no one know how to say his name so they call him spagetti. he has a meltdown about it and then he pretty much dies in the next scene. he didn't laugh
-
Great call on Jaqueline Bisset and her nipples of doom in The Deep. And the piss pump line was one of the funniest I have seen around here!
-
NZ is awesome. I went fishing on lake tapo?? With some mates on a boat. We drank so much. Then we were clay pidgin shooting off the side, then we docked and picked up a stripper. Fucking awesome..<p> Been to Thailand, fucking awesome. Rode a damm elephant. Train rides: I wanna do the trans Siberian railroad, and the Ghan. I deffinitaly wanna go to turkey and visit Gallipoli – mecca for australians<p> I didn’t mind 1408 or the happening. Not the best movies ever, but watchable. 1408>happening (I was expecting a movie about hippies) Film scores: millers crossing (only really two or so good songs, but they are really good), o brother where art thou
-
Was not the movie I was expecting it to be. I don't know what all the hoopla is about Werner Herzog directing a remake (sequel?) to it, it pretty much plays out like a typical Herzog film. The whole movie was a lot more cerebral and full of Harvey Keitel trying to cry. Lets face it though Harvey does not cry, he physically can't. <P> Though the movie reminds me of a former friend of mine who ended up getting his life fucked because of drugs.
-
What Harry was bitching about. This new Clone Wars video is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen! <P> http://tinyurl.com/6d8son <P> SERIOUSLY WATCH THIS CLIP!
-
thanks Series. good stuff. was it you that showed us all the music video with the Gi Joes homage to the Thing too?
-
pretty funny actually
-
Yeah that was me with the G.I. Joe thing. I am gonna go watch that Spirit fight clip I saw it there and forgot to look. This Troll 1 movie is very lame.
-
Going to bed now. See y'all in the AM!
-
Into Troll 2 and its already given me a full solid 2 minutes of entertainment, something I never got with Troll 1.
-
Came across this movie on IMBDizzle. It stars Ironside, anyone heard of it? Looks fucking sweet.
-
The first one I had a crush on as a kid was Lindsay Wagner, the Bionic Woman! She was lovely, plus we share the same birthday, so added cool to a 5 year old kid back then! <p> damn I hate always missing the good discussions during the day..... I'm gonna post a couple things to answer some of the day's questions...
-
I didnt like Spawn, but then I didnt like the comic either. I refuse to watch Ghost Rider just because its Nic Cage. I still havent seen any of The Crow sequels, but the original is one of my favorites. <p> Catwoman is underrated and doesnt deserve all the hate it got. Yeah it was pretty damn bad, but the actors did a decent job given the script they had to work with, plus Halle in that suit was hot! And Sharon Stone as the evil indestructible makeup mogul, what a villain concept! If you look at it as just some dumb movie and forget its called Catwoman its entertaining enough, kinda like the american Godzilla was a cool giant lizard movie. <p> Elektra on the other hand was boring as hell, too bad because they had some cool villains like the tattooed guy and Natassia Malthe as Typhoid Mary.. mmmm hot. I loathed Daredevil, but I should see the Director's cut. Tank Girl was good stupid fun, Malcolm McDowell is always a good thing about any movie, and I kinda like Lori Petty (probably too much for my own good, is she still doing anything?). And every 3 from marvel is crap: Blade Trinity, X-Men 3, Spidey 3.... good thing they wont make Fantastic Four 3.<p> And dissing the Matt Salinger Captain America movie is wrong, that shit cost about $68.35 to make and is funny as hell! I wish I still had the vhs...
-
Well, the first 3, didnt get #4 yet. I know you guys, especially Danny if I recall the earlier posts correctly, didnt seem to like them much, but I really enjoyed them. well the first two at least, 3 is pretty boring and a bit too long. I woudnt call them horror, just brutal thrillers. Shawnee Smith getting throw into the pit of syringes in part 2 is one of the most cringe-inducing scenes I've seen in a while. I can watch people being dismembered every which way without flinching, but I'm a total wuss when it comes to medical stuff. I'm actually surprised I liked these movies since I'm not much of a horror fan.
-
when frickin' LARA FABIAN gets a mention on these talkbacks!! I'm from Montreal, she's a huge star around here, I unfortunately have been exposed to her music for a long many years!
-
One of my all-time favorites is the Judgment Night soundtrack, one of the first albums to merge the rap and metal genres, and one of the last to do it well haha. Spawn was another great genre-mixer. Two others I really like are the soundtracks to the japanese movie Alive (barely remember anything about the movie tho); and to Dobermann, an ultra-violent french movie, starring Vincent Cassel (from Le Pacte Des Loups/Brotherhood of the Wolf), Monica Bellucci as a crazy mute, and the great Tcheky Karyo as a hyper brutal bastard police inspector trying to get their bank-robbing gang. Anyone here seen this movie? It totally kicks a lot of ass! No idea if it ever got an english release, subtitle or dubbed.
-
Was a awesome movie, and soundtrack. Anther good movie that came out around that time Trespass. But dude MILF, Saw 4 was fucking terrible. Like it didn't make any sense and that deaths weren't good at all. Blade 1 and 2 had cool soundtracks, 3 not so much. They were like rap and techno.
-
Has anybody on here seen that movie yet? If I had a DVD burner I would pull a HOD and send it to all of you guys. Unfortunately I don't, but I hope most of you can catch it some time. Cinematic bliss in its purest form. Just imagine a campy western from the 50s or 60s in Technicolor with all the super goody two shoes heroes and the bad to the bone bad guys. Now syntehsize that with a healthy dosage of super violence, and you get one of the most original, creative, entertaining movies I have seen in quite some time. Seriously guys, it would be a crime to not check this movie out! I think Magnolia has released it on DVD here in America. That's the same company who did that pretty swell release of The Host last year or something.
-
not a "?" in the subject line. here's a trailer. I think the movie was made in the year 2000, so don't be fooled by its incredible vintage looks.<p>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saTKuN5bc68
-
Forgot to give you a solid commendation for sending those pencils to Apatow.<p>You have balls. I like balls.
-
O.K., I feel like I need to get myself banned just so those V.I.C.K.I. comments go away. Seriously, people, I was only 6! It wasn't THAT kind of attraction. <P> Anyway, what offensive thing could I say to get banned, oh yea...Brett Ratner for FABULOUS FURRY FREAK BROTHERS!! <p> Anyhoo, goodmorning all. Promise not to bring up 80s robot girls, Lara Fabian or Gary Busey today.
-
Need to claim that top spot without guys like Jarv, and if yesterday was any indication, Pillow and Fred.<p>I'll see if I can find Tears of the Black Tiger. Sounds like my sort of thing.<p>Did anyone else want to do the "five knuckle shuffle" to Lea Thompson after Back to the Future and Howard the Duck came out?
-
I'm glad we made this Twitch thread big. I think this is the largest number of posts one of these has gotten, and I'm fine riding it to at least 1000, BUT if you check out that new Conan thread, it's being written by the writers of Outlander, and they have embedded the Outlander trailer in the article. It will be a new venue for us to spread the Outlander love. Anyone want to switch?
-
I put my home address as the return address (obviously) so if I get a thank you card or a FU card, I'll let you know.<p>And I don't even dislike Apatow, but I couldn't resist.
-
I'm just happy to be posting. Hell, I'd do it in the BHC4 TB.
-
Watched the pony tailed one last night declare that they ain't above mine.<p>I'm come to the conclusion that Stevie never had the proper bad guys in his flicks, so I never felt like he really had to work for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Above the Law is when he's gotten the most "bloody". <p>It was great though how he wipes them all out after breaking free from being tied down with a string.
-
I got Mrs. Pillow some movies, and one of them was a quadruple feature. One of those movies was Intolerable Cruelty, which neither of us had ever seen. <p>Movie had several things going for it: Catherine Zeta-Jones, whom I find un-fucking-believably hot. Let's just dwell on her hotness for a second or two....<p>still dwelling....<p>Okay, and I like Clooney. <p>The movie was pretty damn funny, with a few great lines.<p>Can I have a green salad? What other fucking color is it? or something like that...
-
I've seen it 3 or 4 times, but somehow neither my wife or my sister, who was over for dinner, had seen the movie. So we immediately remedied that. It's easy to forget how great that movie is when you haven't seen it in a while, but every single shot seems like some sort of masterpiece, and save for the balding of Kane, the aging of the actors is quite convincing. And there is just the fact it's a superb movie. It is one of those movies that probably calls for a regular viewing, because it's easy to consider it overrated. My wife and sis were instantly captivated by it. Of course, right after we finished watching Joseph Cotten in Kane, I put in the Zebraman dvd and played the Latitude Zero trailer that showed Cotten mixing it up with Cesar Romero and giant robot flying lions.
-
but still I found it good. My fave involved Wheezy Joe's inhaler mix-up, and Clooney giving a heart felt speech in front of a banner that said "Let N.O.M.A.N. put asunder."
-
I think I was the one who mentioned the Caine qoute over in of our old TBs, when you were going off on Jaws:The Revenge. I wonder if Michael ever did see it.

She gets naked.<p> That was the scene that made me happy in the pants.<P>

Neigh means Neigh!<p> Bam!!!<p> What is it now 6-5?

I love when stars throw out quotes like that.<p> Makes me realize how similar we are, as I would have said the exact same thing about that steaming pile of Bantha shit movie (sorry I caught parts of Phantom Menace last night).

So you did all the right moves in your pants then
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
Well, it's time for my off-topic commentary.<p>Why does anyone give a crap about these Olympics? You've got enhanced fireworks, lip syncing by the cute girl while Crooked Teeth Ling sings behind the curtain, and gymnasts who are losing their baby teeth during the dismount.<p>And not to take anything away from the guy but all this Phelps nonsense is pissing me off. He's without a doubt the best swimmer on the planet and probably the best we'll see in our lifetime, but swimming is one of the few, if not the only, category where there's a bajillion events. The dude has eight chances to take home a medal.<p>The pole vault guy? Umm yeah, sorry, we don't have stacked cows, a pile of smashed up cars and a flaming ring for you to vault over. You get one chance, dingus, don't f*** it up.

Jonah, I watched Citizen Kane for the umpteenth time...
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
...about 6 months ago. It's amazing how many camera tricks, establishing shots and unique angles were utilized. They were revolutionary to boot so generations of filmmakers have Wells to thanks for breaking ground with Kane.
-
...is the loneliest place on earth.
-
*cracks fingers*<p>Time to get to work.
-
Ok, Chitty. It is all out war!
-
I'm trying to keep us afloat, dammit!<p>OK, Hollywood can blow me. Warner Brothers head Alan Horn says ROCKNROLLA is "funny in spots," but qualifies, "it's very English so I don't think it's broadly commercial."<p>Therefore WB is looking for someone else to distribute it.<p>Very English? Since when is this a bad thing? I grow weary of the mentality that dialogue written on a napkin surrounded by shiny CGI robots is what gets the public out to movies.
-
Yep, HOD I have been watching the Olympics.<p> That 4xwhatever relay race was best finish I ever seen as the States rallied to win.<P> I also like the other events just because it's something different to watch and you know these athletes actually give a crap.<p> For once it really is about pride and not just getting paid.
-
last night. Luckily she fell asleep. I'd rather watch the end of Phantom Menace (which I watched, along with Colbert Report) than the Olympics.
-
There is clever wit and physical comedy as well.<p> I mean PBS has shown it here in the States ever since I was a kid and we always got a chuckle from things like Are You Being Served? and such.
-
Did anyone mention Tony Jaa for THE BEST MELTDOWN OF THE YEAR? I finally read the story above. hehehe......crazy shit. That would be fucked up if he just turned up dead and didn't finish the movie. It would go with that tragic martial arts warrior image.
-
...why you hate the Olympics so much Pillow?
-
...and damn my theory is always correct. Those films are 10 times better on commercial t.v. I think there is some strange mechanism int he pace and storytelling that is better suited being broken up for commercial breaks.
-
how bout this..since Kane came up, how bout some of our faves from 50s and before?
-
While I was flipping around.<p> I love the scenes with Darth Maul and the light saber fight. Jesus, Lucas got that part right.<p> But I also realize everytime I watch it, that Jar Jar Binks is my most hated 'comic relief' character ever.<p> When he said 'exsqeeze me' that iced the cake. I don't want stupid, lame, outdated pop culture slang inserted into a Star Wars movie.<p> Holy Fuck I hated that character.<p> Also when he got his tongue caught in the beam that holds the pod racer engines together and got his hand stuck = Stupid fucking shit.<p> When he was on the battlefield against the robot army and started acting even more stupid and accidently took out some of the robot attackers = Stupid fucking shit.<p> Yeah I hate Binks by the way.
-
Indy 4 DVD details released! It comes out on Oct. 14th and has hours and hours of pre-production stuff so you can see Lucas instructing the storyboarders how to visualize Shia getting whacked in the balls a dozen times or 70 year old men going over 3 massive waterfalls.
-
I saw the 4x100 a few nights ago and it was awesome. I also watched some gymnastics and the first basketball game. I really want to see the mens 100 in track though.
-
I wanted to boycott to say fuck you China-- but then I saw it was getting some of the highest ratings in Olympic history so I said FUCK!! I'm not gonna miss out on this shit I enjoy watching that only comes around every four years. Fuck fuck fuck. It really is the only sporting type event that interests and excites me, where i give a fuck who wins. And like Chitty said....they are actually doing it for something other than payola and Range Rovers.
-
I honestly felt bad for USA girls, as they had a shot at gold and balance beam miscues and out of bounds penalties on floor did them in.<p> What the men and women gymnists can do is amazing. Good God I would kill myself just trying some of the easy stuff. Yes, I do not agree with China's politics, but I am very much enjoying these Olympics.<p> And cannot wait for track and field events.
-
Thats great news. I just pray that they show the B-roll footage of The Berg shooting a real, live prairie dog.....and then opting for ILM replacement when he realized prairie dogs just aren't expressive enough for the emotion he was going for in that scene. I hope he talks about it on the DVD commentary and says, "Most films would have an insert shot to the prairie dog once. But since George and I are all about upping the ante, we decided to cut back to him not once, twice, or even three times......oh yeah baby, we got prairie dogs in four shots!! Because after a nuclear bomb goes off and our hero rolls out of a Frigidaire, the next thing you want to see is a prairie dog reaction shot to enhance the verisimilitude of the moment, right?"
-
Every time the media focuses on one athlete. Last time around wasn't it the cute gymnast girl with the gimpy ankle? And the rest of the athletes look liked chopped liver. And professional athletes should not be allowed to compete. Pluck some kids off an inner city court and let then show the rest of the world how it's done.
-
I saw the first half...didnt see how it ended. So is that it for them? <p> All I know is its fucking bullshit those Chinese claim their girls are 15 and up. Bullshit. The American girls are hot, especially that darker skinned one with big cans and some curves. They look like women......and they are competing against these tiny ass 8 year olds. 15 years old my fucking ass.
-
Can not stick around too long today - Fred being Ninja Fred again because of boss. For all the comic book geeks or just people who like lists, Empire just listed their top 50 comic book characters. 1 and 2 are obvious. But Fred would never in a million years have guessed who they put in at #3! So, what are your top comic book characters and guess who was nunmber 3! Fred gotta go invisible again.
-
I agree-- I get sick of the hype all being about one guy as well. Fuck that....did they even say the name of the fucking guy that had that amazing comeback in swimming? <P> But......there is still less show-boating and eye roll inducing arrogance than any 5 minutes of professional sports here in America. Its still a much more pure form of sports entertainment IMO.
-
I was watching it for the first time the other day, and my roomate who was watching the very first episode of Family Guy on TBS and was trying to tell me that it was a brand new episode came home with some dumb girl and they asked me what I was watching. It was clear that the movie was at least wicked old and I told them Citizen Kane and the first question out of her mouth was, "The original or the remake?". I told her it was the remake.

If any of you want to know what the Olympics...
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
...should be about, rent Miracle. This country's greatest Olympic moment. A bunch of kids pulled together for love of country who did the impossible. None of them were professionals and few of them actually went on to be professional hockey players. No drugs, no aerodynamic George Jetson space age gear, no endorsement deals on the line, no protesters getting their teeth knocked out (that was the job of the puck), none of that B.S.<p>If I sound jaded, well, it's because I am. I hope the U.S. brings home more medals than anyone but damn if I see 1/100th of the magic I did as a 9 year old boy watching Team USA in Lake Placid.
-
You know, the hot one with the big cans and rockin' turd cutter?<p> I just remembered she is 20 years old so it's fair to make sure everyone knows how hot she is.<p> Also it showed slow motion shots of her running to the vault. Good times.<p> But yeah, the team event is over so no more shots of Top Heavy.
-
Aug. 13, 2008, 9:37 a.m. CST
yeah...HOD....but you're into basketball and shit....
by DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD
It just doesn't make sense. There is nothing more jaded and endorsement driven than our professional sports here. Or baseball....fuck talk about enhanced artificial bullshit. Why anyone is impressed with their abilities is beyond me.
-
Priceless.<p>All my favorite pre-50s movies star Bogey and Cagney. Plain and simple. I don't care how cliche it sounds.
-
And yes, the shots from below that look up at the character were very well done.<p> He took risks making that movie, as I'm sure people thought he was crazy for breaking away from the standard way of shooting a film.<p> But I love his performance just as much as the direction.

Is is all about perspective and overlooking marketing. Look, I am old enough to remember watching the 72 olympics - you know, what the movie Munich was based on? And I recall as early as '76 how critics were decrying the mass marketing of the olympics. Hell, they may have been saying that at the 72 games or even earlier, but it did not register with my young mind at the time. The point is, whenever big businnes gets involved in the marketing of anything, you get the glitz. But ignoring that, it is the performances on the field, water, wherever, that matter. Do not think less of the athletes because of the hype they have little control over. And as for performance enhancers - they are nothing new. I remember the 76 games and the east Germans being accused of taking entire pharmacies - which they did. You have to filter out thse things though.
-
The team event is over? There is solo, right? But she doesn't do it?
-
Arsenic and Old Lace.<p> Love Cary Grant, as he is one of my all-time favorites. Jesus, he had such range to be able to exceed in everything from physical comedy and timing to the dramatic.<p> I also laugh everytime his Uncle (or cousin?) goes up the stairs.<p> "CHARGE!!!!"
-
But I will make sure as I don't want to miss anything if she does.<p> I she hottest gymnast in recent years? I can't think of another one off hand.
-
I really couldn't give a shit about these sports anymore then I already don't about all other sports. I don't think its really that big of a deal if you break a world record and first off it was your own damn record, secondly who gives a shit if the amazing record you break is only by less then a second? <P> Also so much more of todays altheletes prowess is due to technology and not ability. Thats why I love Rugby, because the only thing you can really change is the jerseys, cleats, ball and field. I guess you can add some pads, but for the most part is all comes down to teamwork and physical ability. Like football the way the ball is made plays a much more important role, and new pads and helmets and gloves add so much more to the game. Like for sports to me its like trying to compare a computer made this year to a computer that ran off of punch cards. And then talk about their similarites and differences.
-
a fat, bloated, corporate monolith that has too many events (and don't even get me started on how fucking elitist some of them are), goes on too long, is to damned expensive. The modern version is so far from the Olympic ideal it is awful. <P>And I hate the fact that my taxes will have to go up to pay for London 2012, which none of us want.
-
I've never seen a gymnast with a dumper like that.
-
First, I wouldn't say I 'hate' the idea of the Olympics, but like Hawaiian said, there should be no muthafucking pro athletes in the muthafucking games. I don't give a shit what other countries do. The U.S. shouldn't be sending pros over. That's not what the games should be about. Fucking ridiculous. I hope our b-ball team gets shelled. Fucking NBA blows.<p>You are right that some movies do play better with commercials Danny, but that's more to do with me flipping the channel away from the really bad parts of Menace. <p>Jar Jar is dreadful of course, but I really think Hayden produced far more cringe-inducing moments. I mean, Jar Jar is really a peripheral character, but Hayden...Hayden is Darth. Not supposed to be a whiny little bitch who would get fucked in the ass by younglings.
-
I understand basketball isn't what it once was and I hate myself for giving the slightest crap about it since those divas are all overpaid. So I'm a hypocrite and admit it every time I'm challenged.<p>I stopped watching the Olympics 20 years ago after the Ben Johnson debacle. I don't know how many of you kids remember that, but he was the pride of Canada. I'm not joking when I say this but the whole country came to a standstill for the 10 seconds he raced. When he won the collective scream should have been heard around the world. And then the doping issue emerged, he was stripped of his medal and we realized what a douchenozzle Johnson turned out to be.<p>Four years later when the Harding/Kerrigan spectacle happened, it reinforced my belief that I had made the right decision by boycotting the Olympics indefinitely.

Aren't you in Spain?
-
because I don't want to OD on movies and there is bugger all on TV. But let me give you my 2 pet peeves with this one: <P>Biased judging- I know you get "home" judges, but this time they're taking the fucking piss. I was watching the Gymnastics the other day and any chinese gymnast could have come on, dropped his keks and pulled his pud in time to Nickleback and would still have scored 2 points more than anyone else. <P>2)Stupid elitist shite sports that we're embarrasingly quite good at. How the fuck is Sailing an Olympic sport and there are 9million fucking categories, and 3 Day Eventing? what the fuck? Stupid tedious bullshit.
-
Did you check out the pics of Alicia's dumps or what? Fuck.
-
Good to have you join us. You pulling a three hour shift before starting your vacation?
-
something to do with threatend strike action. Wankers.
-
There are some things in the olympics that I would like to watch but fucking DRV only gives me like 4 hour blocks with a list of whats showing and its not in order. I guess I could go online and find out when shit will be on, but I shouldn't have to! I would like to watch the kayaking and bike stuff.
-
At least your employer is benefiting from your presence today. Hah!
-
The Korean games judges were the absolute worse. The greatest bias I have ever seen. Danny, I looked at those pics, and said good lord!
-
Dare I ask how old she is?
-
Track and Field, Swimming, Boxing and maybe the shooting events and Gymnastics. <P>And Beach Volleyball. Which is far and away the most watchable bit of it- <P>There should be no Tennis, football, Basketball, Hockey, Sailing, Racquet sports full stop, Table Tennis, Equestrianism (really- what the fuck), Cycling, Canoeing (What the fuck?), Rowing, or other suchlike shitey sports. <P>I understand that this would decimate Britain's shitey medal standing but it would be much better.
-
You know they used to have Tug of War?<p> Jesus that would be awesome, with two 500-pound monoliths anchoring each side.<p> Also they need to have some pub sports like darts or bare-knuckle fistacuffs.

by Freds_Balls_in_a_Mason_Jar
Cary Grant is Fred's all time favorite.<p> Fred love Olympics

And even though she's legal, I feel like a filthy old man for looking.
-
I've received Ong Bak, and am anxiously awaiting the Protector. Now it seems I have 2/3 of the complete Tony Jaa collection, since he will shortly be disappeared. Permanently it seems.
-
Or just make it a Beerfest. <p>Speed quarters...the boot...those are in the spirit of the games.
-
And I mean full metal body armor like the good old days.<p> I mean Holy Crap who wouldn't like to get drunk and watch that? I bet Equinas loves the events as they are.

I have always had a problem with judged events
by Hawaiian Organ Donor
Not only can (and have) judges be bribed, but that crap is up to biased interpretation. I've seen ice skating performances I thought were trash win a gold medal.<p>And I shouldn't have brought up the Olympics. Too much ranting going on.

Its not very good, but its fun every now and then. Thats how sports should fucking be. Maybe they should do that every year for every sport, add an extra team made up just regular guys who maybe played some college ball and they get the chance to beat the professionals. Its a new team every year, they don't have a home town they just get a chance to beat the full timers.
-
Seriously. Best thing there. I know it's borderline porn, but....
-
...to watch a bunch of guys like me play soccer or baseball on a professional field. The soccer would be particularly interesting because after 10 minutes, most of the players from both teams would be passed out on the pitch so it would become a one-on-one between the kicker and the goalie.
-
Rest assured, Alicia would win. So would Pillow. Multiple times, God willing.
-
Sorry Jarv. I had hockey on the brain.
-
Just thought it would be funny to discuss some potential events.<p> Instead of boxing for girls, they could have the slapfests like you see on youtube. It is the ones that the radio shows have.<p> Man those girls slap the shit out of each other! Funny stuff!
