Bernie Mac
1957-2008
I am – Hercules
Funnyman Bernie Mac, star of “Ocean’s 11” and its sequels as well as “Bad Santa,” "Transformers," and Fox's “The Bernie Mac Show,” has passed away at age 50, from complications due to pneumonia.
Though a working comic for more than 30 years, he made his first screen appearance 16 years ago as a doorman in “Mo’ Money.” Subsequent credits include “Friday,” “Get On The Bus,” and “Life.”
He brought his stand-up act to cinemas in 2000 via "The Original Kings of Comedy" and launched both of his most prominent franchises the following year: “The Bernie Mac Show” ran from 2001 to 2006; 2001's “Ocean’s 11” spawned two sequels.
While his TV show was airing, Mac appeared in “Bad Santa,” “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and "Head of State," and as the title character in the baseball comedy “Mr. 3000.”
Last year he appeared on the big screen in "Transformers," "Ocean's 13" and "Pride."
He shot a pilot earlier this year for a new Fox sitcom, "Starting Under."

never really dug him but shame he is gone
-
sucks bad when funny people die
-
I thought that was a rumor. Too bad since he was good in Oceans. RIP
-
RIP BERNIE MAC!!
-
RIP, Mr. Mac. You will be missed.
-
shut the fuck up. first is retarded.
-
Wasn't a HUGE fan of his, but he was a pretty funny guy. Seemed like a nice fellow, too. Sad to see him go.
-
Big Mac got a little AICN love. Oh yeah...9th! or maybe 10th or 11th by the time I post this.
-
He was one funny guy.
-
I have loved Bernie Mac's comedy since the early/mid 90s and ALWAYS looked forward to seeing him on screen. He was the perfect remedy for stale contemporary comedy. this news sucks
-
guess they really didnt like him embarrassing obama some months ago when bernie spoke at a presidential rally
-
I went on holiday earlier this year and when I come back I found Heath Ledger was dead. Today I get back from my holidays in Mexico to find Bernie Mac is dead too. I shall think very carefully before going on holiday again.
-
Too bad.
-
My thoughts go out to his family, he always brought a smile to my face in his roles.
-
go easy mr. mcCullough.
-
Although, oddly enough, I didn't like "The Bernie Mac Show" for some reason. I liked him as a supporting character in most of the movies he's been in, I love his stand-up, and I actually was endeared to him in Mr. 3000 even (maybe it's because of the Brewer love).
I just don't think I liked anyone ELSE on the Bernie Mac Show - that was my problem.
-
Just like the Clinton's and their long list of "friends" and business associates who are no longer residing in the mortal coil, Obama has begun his own list of people who have to be eliminated.
-
Will be missed. Even in TRANSFORMERS, which is a pretty good trash film, he was funny. Too young but what can you do... RIP
-
Dang, that advertiser was quick to try and capitalize. Yeeghh.
-
I didn't know much about your TV work, but I sure enjoyed your movies. Godspeed mate.
-
I was hoping this was still a rumor, but am coming to the sinking conclusion that this is the real deal. Such a horrible shame. My thoughts go out to his family.
-
Esp. after all the false reports that he died... sad shit.
-
seems like i"m the only one who actually liked the Bernie Mac Show...I laugh like an idiot every time that show is on...this is terrible news...I guess we're all terminal in the end
-
RIP great man. I wish Hollywood used your stand-up into your projects but while you were here you made me laugh. And I hope that makes you immortal.
-
My thoughts go out to his family. The scenes between Bernie and John Ritter in 'Bad Santa' will be very bittersweet. Oh, and shame on the tabloid ghouls that have been hounding this story for weeks. You got your wish; he finally died!
-
Yeah, for the most part he played himself in roles, but you just couldn't help but laugh at anything he said, because even when he was being funny he acted like he was just pissed beyond belief at whatever he was talking about. Gonna miss ya, man.
-
I loved him. Everything he did made me laugh. His sense of timing, his sense of humor--I fell in love the first time I saw him on DCJ. Other comedians all had a little fear in them when they took the stage. What'd Bernie say? "I AIN'T AFRAID OF YOU MOTHERFUCKERS." Gone too soon. RIP, man.
-
I almost pissed my pants laughing in that "negotiation" scene in BAD SANTA. He was young, damnit. Rest in peace, mr. Mac.
-
The world lost a great comedic personality. Bernie Mac was always funny, in everything. He could read the phonebook and you'd laugh.
-
I'm sad to hear this news. Bernie Mac was one of those actors and comedians that could always get a smile or a laugh from me. He was just genuinely funny and likeable.
He wasn't over the top. He wasn't overstated. But just one glance or a quick one-liner was enough to get me going.
My condolences to his family and friends. We've lost another good one. But at least we still have his work to enjoy. RIP Mr. Mac.
-
Only 50? Really? Well, prayers and blessings to his family and friends. May angels lead him home.
-
The guy was a funny motherfucker. And one of the few that could genuinely bring blacks and whites together in a funny, unapologetic way. RIP Sir.
-
"I was hoping we'd get more Bernie Mac this time around, but we got less. He spends most of the movie in jail! There better be plans for a spinoff about what happens while he's in jail, or I'm gonna be pissed."
-Vern

Now we'll never know :(
-
You couldn't say one good thing about the man or his work. You just riddled off a a few of his credits. The man won a peabody for fuck sakes and you can't take the time to say something positve or complimentary about one of his projects. Bernie Mac was a great comedian and seemed like a pretty great guy.
-
He was great. Sad news.
-
cant somebody i hate die?
-
What a shitty year it's been. Bernie Mac was a funny summamabitch and he'll be missed. If you haven't seen his first go-round on Def Comedy Jam you should check it out. He didn't come for no foolishness! R.I.P.
-
...love that line....good night buddy.
-
I saw the headline and thought WTF??!! I didn't know he was ill. Loved the sitcom, and he brightened the screen in the movies he appeared in. What another sad loss.
-
seriously, shut the fuck up. the man died. what does that have to do with his political affiliations?
-
50 is no age to go,,will be sadly missed like farley,carlin,candy...etc...R.I.P
-
Shit this is some awful news.
-
While it's greatly appreciated of aintitcool to run this news, I wish one of the regular contributors had written something BEYOND what the Associated Press put out this morning.
-
He was hysterical in The Playas' Club. Condolences to his family. Godspeed Bernie.
-
i mean, Newman's not dead, but he announced he's going to die at home, probably in a few weeks, at most.
-
He was a great guy and a consistently funny entertainer. Godspeed, Mac Man. This reminds me of Robin Harris's untimely demise back in the '90s.
-
I'm so sad about this. RIP.
-
I mean in Ocean's 11 he gave me the tools to get rid of my nasty ashy knuckles. Farewell Bernie, I was sure your best work lay in front of you. I'm sad to see you go.
-
I wasn't a huge fan of Bernie Mac, but whatever I saw him in (Bad Santa, etc) he was great, and he was a very funny comedian. This is a great loss for the comedy world, for Hollywood, and of course his city, Chicago. Yes, this really sucks.
-
and it f'n sucks.
-
A likeable screen presence; passed away at far too young an age.
-
Thanks for making us happy, Mr. Mac.

I remember seeing the first Kings of Comedy in theaters
by IndustryKiller!
Who knows how long ago that was, but I remember watching it and thinking "Who the hell is this Bernie Mac guy?! He's fucking hilarious!" he just absolutely stole that movie with easily the funniest routine. I also enjoyed his show and his role int he Oceans films. So so sad and so so young. My condolences.
-
RIP Big Mac
-
It was the same thing when Jerry Orbach died a few years ago. Herc, for what he brings to the site, is god awful with obits. I was livid at the Orbach "obituary" in which Herc had to make clear he didn't really care for Law and Order. Either way, Bernie will be missed. He wasn't going to win any awards, but he was GREAT at what he was actually trying to do: make people laugh.
-
He was 50 and died of pneumonia? What is this, the Oregon Trail? Totally sucks.
-
Sure, he did the same thing in Oceans, Transfromers and Bad Santa, but he was good at it. The weakest aspect of Oceans 12 was that Bernie Mac was thrown in Jail for 80% of the movie. My favourite line from Transformers is him when Shia wants to buy Bumblebee and he says, "I thought you said "'the car chooses its owner!'" and Bernie Mac snaps: "Yeah well sometimes they pick a driver with a cheap ass father!"
-
is bullshit. Come on guys, do you still believe in stupid superstitious crap like that? Celebrities die ALL the time, just like real people. Every few months someone you've probably heard of dies... do which 3 "famous people" are we gonna group Bernie with? Carlin and Ledger? Ledger died way back in February. It's total bullshit. By the way, this news sucks.
-
that's crazy and sad... i'm not the man's biggest fan but i do generally enjoy the guy.
-
sometimes I couldn't stand him, other times I thought he was hilarious. but you could always tell he was a hardworking guy in the business. I was buying a car this morning when I found out, and I immediately thought of that scene in O11 when he talks down the van. Just couldn't stop laughing. RIP Bernie.

"responding well to treatment and will be released soon"
by brock landers baby
Never a good sign.
-
RIP Bernie & condolences to his family :'(
-
What a shock. I never really paid much attention to his stand up, but I found his show was pretty good, and any talk shows and stuff I've seen him on, he seemed like a good guy. I believe that the premise of his show -- that he takes in his sister's kids when she can't raise them -- was based on his real life, so I always thought that showed he was a good guy. And 50? A real shame.
-
Bernie wasn't old, didn't use drugs (as far as I know), wasn't a crazy guy... just a solid stand-up who was able to turn that into a really strong TV and movie career.
What sad news... :(
-
A very funny man. I also heard that he was a damn nice guy. Enjoyed his work. My best to his friends and family.
RIP
-
Why?
-
RIP sir

R,I.P Bernie. "Changalang..Changalang..!!" -LIFE (1999)
by DaKnifeOrDaGun
Damn. I've seen hasbeens from decades ago get better send offs. AICN...truly shity on your part. Thanks for the laughs Mr Mac.
-
the 3's IS total B.S. cause a hell of alot more than 3 famous people have died this year
-
Wow. I heard the news early this morning and am still in shock. In many ways I grew up on Bernie. I've been a fan of his since the first Def Comedy Jam. I of course have enjoyed his stand-ups, movies, and shows ever since. He was just straight up funny. It was all real, no mincing of words. He had a raw energy and aggression to his work. "I ain't scared of you MFs... KICK IT!" lol This is so very sad. My prayers and condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans. God called a good one home- early to us... but right on time. Thank you Mr. Mac for making me laugh. God bless. R.I.P.
-
and shocking too. RIP Bernie
-
He did not play that role in "Boyz n the Hood." He spoofed that role in the Wayans' (highly underrated) comedy- "Don't Be A Menace While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood." Bernie was of course hilarious in that. RIP.
-
That's why BM was a great comedian.. He was actually creative about describing his real life in funny ways. He just didn't rely on the make fun of white people jokes like I see too often. He let us inside his world, told us about his life, and how it was just like ours, regardless of color, but unique to his situation.. And then he told us his story with so much humor, anger and style you just couldn't stop laughing.. Always seemed like a guy you want to have a beer with and let him vent about how his family is pissing him off today... This really sucks..
-
It seems surreal. RIP. What a loss. I enjoyed his TV show quite a bit. It seemed classier than most comedies I see these days.
-
Not sure why, but it does. The man was way too young and way too vibrantly alive to die.
-
... he could be in a really shitty movie, and still make you laugh. He always rose above the material, which is a clear sign of talent to me. And when he was in project worthy of his talent, he rose to the occasion. The one scene I always remember and laugh my ass off at was in Ocean's Eleven. When Bernie starts riffing on how "they oughta call it WHITE jack." I mean, my God, it doesn't get much funnier than that scene, and he and Matt Damon play off each other perfectly. God bless him and his family. He will truly be missed ...
-
First Jazz, then Megan Fox’s engagement, Shia’s pnky, John Voight’s career, now Bernie Mac. Somebody better secure Josh Duhamel in bubble wrap.
-
Now Bernie Mac was one funny muther, especially his favorite saying.."Summa Bitch"..you will be missed Bernie!
-
Man, he was great as that jive preacher in "Friday" as well as that store dick in "Bad Santa." RIP, Bernie.
-
He was great. His show was underrated or under-watched, or something. Under-appreciated? Anyway, funny guy.
-
Bad times man, I lost my dad two weeks ago to pretty much exactly the same thing. Loved Bernies work, Oceans 11 a particular favourite as well as The Bernie Mac show, always remember his brilliant delievery of the line, "beat on it until the white meat shows" menacing, but funny. RIP dude
-
I had the pleasure of having Bernie co-direct a music video with me for his Dear Friend Terisa Griffin he told me about how Soderberg & Bay directed their movies and he told me that as long as i worked hard and kept thinking positive i would realize all my ambitions we even came from the same high school in chicago he will be sorely missed
-
... that when he gets to Heaven, he eyeballs St. Peter at the gate and says, "I ain't afraid of you motherfuckers..."
-
Cruel, cruel fate.
-
Sure he was no richard pryor or even dave chappelle, but the man was funny as hell. cause of him, I know the meaning of the word "Bdussy".He was the only thing funny in Transformers not some autobot pissing on a federal agent or sneaking around some fucking kid's parents' house. God bless and Godspeed. and yes gridbug, as Florida evans would say; "Damn, Damn, DAMMNNNN"!!
-
You will be missed but the after life just became extremely funny, "It's gonna be Trouble"
-
Richard, Red, and Bernie Right about now.
-
2008 = the year the funny died
:(
-
Wow what a shit year for deaths..all the real talent dies and reality shit and nobodie live on. Mac was funny as shit....I dug him....shit I even liked Mr. 3000....he had that likable personality that always made you feel good. Like when you watched him you never got the impression he was some stuck up fuckin' star who though everyone was a sack of shit...he was just a funny guy and he will be missed.
-
What I meant was all the reality tv shit and Paris Hilton in movies and all the nobody talentless douche bags live on and talent seems to disappear
-
I bet they're gonna show the Bellagio fountain scene at the Academy tribute. It's gonna be a long tribute with so many celebrities who died this year.
-
he left us a great gift. his humor
-
Really? Are we still saying that in 2008? sigh. 50 is too young. counterforce.wordpress.com
-
This fucking sucks. Makes his appearance in Transformers even more memorable. RIP Mr. Mack!
-
I remember seeing him in the original Def Comedy Jam shows and laughing hard at his in-your-face comedy. He was an old school comic -- taking whatever work came. And his TV show was and still is proof that minority-led sitcoms don't have to fall back on stereotypes to succeed.

As for the obit...well...he wasn't a geek God...hence it's no surprise the write-up was so dry. But don't hold AICN alone here. I doubt much of the mainstream media will do much better. Meanwhile...had Paris Hilton suddenly succumbed of vagina implosion, there'd be wall-to-wall coverage.
-
Bad Santa is the greatest christmas movie ever. His performance in it was fantastic. Have an orange tonight.
-
in the new Batman movie!
-
... this is so sad, gone too soon.
-
Seriously, who says that anyone has to inject an obit with gushings and raves? Like myself, perhaps Herc was simply not a fan of Mac and had nothing to say about him other than facts. Jeez, some of you people can never be satisfied!
-
I even went to the "Bernie Mac Show" event at the Paley Fest. I thought the clips spoke for themselves. I can still add "I thought Bernie Mac was hilarious" to the post if you think that declaration improves it.
-
Aug. 9, 2008, 5:50 p.m. CST
I just saw a test screening of his newest movie with Sam Jackson
by dr sauch
The movie was....not that great. BUT, Mac was absolutely the one thing that made it watchable. He was hysterical, and it was great to see him in a role where he could stretch his "blue comedy" legs. Just one look from that guy was enough to send the whole theater into giggles. He will be missed. Btw, the working title of the movie was Soul Men, the screening was in Paramus, NJ.
-
This is still shocking a sad news. Godspeed, sir.
-
Really dug Bernie on stage...but not so much in his choice of roles. Anyone that has ever seen him live will recognize what a talent he was & how much different he was than the normal run of the mill comedian. Terrible way to pass also...puh-new-moan-yer is ruff stuff. My grandmother went a few months with that mess...& it is horrible. Bernie will be missed.
-
C'mon... if Paris Hilton does succumb to Vaginal Implosion, I'll cover her from wall to wall myself.
-
R.I.P. Muthafukka
-
That's not fair. Bernie Mac will always be a favorite. I never laughed so hard as I did when I saw Bernie Mac for the first time in Original Kings of Comedy. God Bless!
-
Funny man. R.I.P.
-
he was a funny dude.Sad....
-
that's what bro's do...
-
Hell no! Can't be! Damn... the man was a great comedian, and a great actor. Mr 3000 never got the respect it deserved, it was a great movie for him to do at that time yet. Even got double thumbs up from Ebert & Roeper, now that something about a comedy flick.
Mac chose to fit in the Ocean's flicks, and instead of just being second potato to Clooney, Pitt and Damon, he stood his own. His character came out on the screen, when he was on he filled that moment with his character.
The man was a great actor.
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't a fan of his stand-up comedy. What I saw was what he did at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal and that's about it. 'twas good, but nothing that made me want to watch his other stuff. I personnaly liked him more in the movies. Transformers was "bleh", yes the effects were good but the whole dumbass idea that a couple of giant robots were walking around a neigborhood and no one noticed them until all hell broke loose in the middle of the city, and even topping it off by showing a newscast of the kid's folks being interviewed saying they didn't believe that giant robots were walking among us was freakishly retarded. The whole movie was a 5.5 out of 10, and that's because of the effects, story wise they failed miserably! Yet one thing came out of this whole movie. Mac's performance as a used car salesman. he owned that role like he actually was a used car salesman. Made me even wonder if the man himslef didn't once sell pieces of junks before making it big?
In all the Mac made us see the talent he had. He will be missed by us all.
To know that he died like that is sad news.
Blessings to his family and friends!
-
...will somebody KILL the grim reaper already? Bernie Mac was one funny guy and 50 is way too young to die. somebody's fucking around here and i'm getting pissed and i don't mean drunk. RIP BMAC
-
Uncle Bobby B. RIP
-
he was a funny dude.
-
This is fucking terrible. My birthday is at the end of august, which is when the kings of comedy film came out in 2000. I was totally psyched to see it for my birthday and on the way to the theater Our car hit a pothole real bad and we needed to get it towed. It was basically shaping up to be the worst birthday ever. Luckily the later showing wasn't sold out and we cabbed it to the theater. Sitting in the movie watching Bernie go made me completely forget how wack the rest of the night was, and my birthday didn't really suck anymore. You will be missed man.

-
-which I, personally didn't find all that funny - but he had a respectable body of work and I'm still a little saddened to hear about his passing, regardless of my opinion on how funny I thought he was
-
50 is far too young. :(
-
Someone else said it above but damn, talented people are dropping like flies this year.
-
I loved his work. That is just horrible.
-
I love the Bernie Mac show. Funny as all hell... Sad to hear that he has left us already. He was one funny-ass dude.
-
When God can take someone as funny as Bernie Mac but leave Carrot Top alive. I'll miss you Bernie - thanks for the laughs my man.
-
Rest in peace, Bernie
-
Abe Vigoda will outlive everyone!! All hail the great Abe Vigoda!!
-
i basically hate the comics that use curse words to make people laff...cuz after a while, its not funny...but mac's work came from alot of pain...it was real...filled with pathos...and that is what made him great...much too young...and he shoulda gotten a much larger roll in transformers...maybe then it woulda been a good movie
-
That bit with the milk and cookies in "Kings of Comedy" cracks me up everytime. Agree with the others when I say too soon, man. Way too soon.
-
is "when so and so get's to heaven, I'll bet..." ect. Guys, there's no heaven. Ok? It's a cute idea, but not a real thing. The idea of angels, fluffy clouds, pearly gates, St. Peter, and a god that really gives a crap about our day to day lives is just freakin' goofy. Better to face mortality head on and realistically than to persist in these false notions of getting to "live on forever after you die". That said, the man will be deeply missed and, yeah, he was way too young.
-
mac had another lung disease that was apparently in remission, but its possible that his lungs were already weakened by the prior disease...no evidence of drug use or multiple sex partners...and this is the 21st century, they dont try to hide aids anymore
-
...but, his Transformers scene is on right this moment on HBO. He will be missed.
-
there is a heaven...heaven jones that is. best hooker in my street. im sure bernie mac would wish he was inside heaven right now
-
...is like a meth-faced, streroid infused, scary chick.
-
It's been grim all day here, one person after another at all the gas stations and outside..."Did you hear about Bernie Mac?"...."Damn"... He was a talented, funny guy, and a real-true Chicagoan...held every job imaginable in his twenties and thirties just to stay with the stand-up. A real stand-up guy, too, from the genration of my parents(I'm 26), when men were MEN......told it how it was, and treated people the way he wanted to be treated....Gave hope to a lot of us youth that come from Chicago and want to be actors/performers/comedians....Went to Sox games and never went 'Hollywood'(Chicagoans usually are humble people). And in the midst of a LOT of youth-shootings here this year, it was just another hit to be delivered this morning to people everywhere....Even if you weren't a fan, you can at least respect a stand-up guy, which is a forgotten trait these days........Rest in Peace, Mac Man......Chi-Town!....
-
1. B.Mac 2. A.Lange 3. G.Lopez
-
Make them laugh up there, Mac!!
-
Thanks for the laughter Mr. Mac. Godspeed.
-
I think he has a retard son who has taken over. Because this version of Death is killing all the talented people and leaving us with criminals like Bush, O'Riley and M. Night! -,-;
-
I for one won't believe this until Moriarty has personally examined the corpse and posted his findings. But seriously, sad news - too young. RIP.
-
I remember the first time he told the story on Howard Stern, and everyone was touched, out of 13 kids or there about, he was the only survivor of his immediate family, and he took care of his extended family. I think that was the reason for his success, and in that, and through that, I'm glad I can say that he was a real life hero. Have a Peaceful Journey Bernie!!! God Bless You!!!!
-
I loved Bernie Mac since his first 2 Def Comedy Jam bits back in the 90's. Got major replay time in my now dead VHS. I still remember sitting at Magic Johnson Theatres on opening night back in 2000 & laughing till my stomach hurt during his "Original Kings of Comedy" set! His dissertation on the word MotherFucker is the stuff of legend. R.I.P., Brother Mac!
-
didn't take any crap from the kids like you see in so many sitcoms nowadays. Flickapoo nailed it with the quote. This sucks.
-
RIP Bernie Mac .......
-
He plays the car dealer
-
I love that guy. I thought it sounded bad when I read about him being in the hospital, but never thought he would die. I think what I like about his persona most is he had these two things that contradicted each other. First he had this menacing quality. Those crazy eyes, the way he'd stare down the whole audience sometimes while telling a joke. I think of that scene in Ocean's 11 where he shakes the guy's hand and won't let go, or in Bad Santa the way he bullies everybody from a little kid stealing CDs to Billy Bob Thornton. In his jokes he makes alot of threats to bust people upside their head and in his face he looks like he means it, like he's about to snap.
But then the second thing is a genuine sweetness underneath all that. This especially came out in the Bernie Mac Show. Of course he couldn't curse but other than that he didn't make much compromise in transferring his standup to sitcom form. He's the same ornery bastard in that show as in his stand-up. And he will be selfish and he'll threaten everybody but ultimately he loves his family and does the right thing. Even if they locked him out of the house and sprayed him with a hose.
That was a good show and they even had good music on it, Stevie Wonder and everything. So much classier than your average family sitcom. One episode I really liked is the one where he gets mad at the kids so he starts making them go to church every week to get back at them, but then he realizes how much he hates going to church. They never did that topic on Family Ties.
Anyway, it's too fuckin sad. And he never really got to do a great starring role in a movie either, I thought he'd get one some day. He did show up in a couple modern classics (Bad Santa and Friday come to mind), so that's a good legacy along with his standup.
Damn, I already miss Bernie Mac.
-
I had the tv on earlier with no sound and saw they were talking about him on the news but I wasnt paying attention... damn... I wasnt a fan of his, but he was funny in whatever movies I've seen him in. RIP Bernie.
-
I actually met him briefly at Sparks Steak House in New York City a few years ago. My wife and I were leaving and getting our coats at the coat check, and he and his group were checking their coats in. He was pretending to text on his phone, but his eyes were on my wife's ass. I caught him, and he got that big grin on his face that we've all seen so many times, said "Hey man, I'm sorry," and gave me a slap on the shoulder. It was a funny moment, and he was cool; seemed like a nice guy. He'll be missed.
-
Until last year (I am not much of a real geek) and then I watched a single episode of the Bernie Mac show. He was trying to get his nerdy nephew to emulate his sisters new boyfriend who like sports. Bernie Mac crying as he made them watch "Brian's Song" made me laugh so much. For that episode alone, I thank him and am sad to hear of his death. God bless Bernie Mac and all his fans.
-
"Loves to fuck, especially fat women."
-
My favourite Bernie Mac moment was on his TV show when he was trying to get the kids to flush the toilet,so when do the kids decide to listen to him.....when he's in the shower of course, who can't relate to that :).
-
...was Bernie Mac and Matt Damon trading race barbs. "Goddamn cracker..."
-
the most obscure people on the fringes of the entertainment industry get ten page "I've always loved his work, ever since I was three," writeups when they die, and then Bernie Mac gets his cut and pasted in. Classy stuff, guys.
-
Bernie truly had a gift for it man. I know his role in Transformers wasn't anything long or drawn out...but it's one of those elements that, Although it didn't occur in the cannon, it fit perfectly and added to the immersion of a Teenager getting his first car that also happens to be a shapeshifting alien sentient robot. "A Driver don't pick the car, Car picks the Driver. It's a mystical bond between man and machine..."
-
I didn't really think that Bernie Mac was terribly funny and I only found him to be moderately humorous though I dug his role in the Ocean's series. I always felt however that he was a genuine and decent person...for this reason I find it terribly sad that he has passed, at such a young age at that. It's a shame.
-
I know how you feel. It's like the comic we always new was great but failed to give him the respect he deserved. He's the comedian you always wanted to pat on the back and say thanks for not letting us take everything so serious. Unfortunatly, we only realize this after they are gone.
-
Bernie. Too many greats passing away lately.
-
You take Heath, Carlin and Mac all in the same year. But W lives, what kind of fucked up bollocks world do we live in when that is considered right? Rest in peace to the fallen of '08.
-
its amazing how only good pple die while pple like paris hilton or whoever still live. i hear he had a daughter or something that dropped out of college.
-
Sarcoidosis is a rare immune system disorder. Maybe that had something to do with him not being able to overcome the pneumonia. I'm sure it wasn't AIDS.
-
Why aren't there...more songs about PNEUMONIA...and whats on the other side...
-
I EVEN HATE MY GUN 'CAUSE IT'S BLACK.
-
I HATE BLACK KEYS ON A PIANO
-
'The Bernie Mac Show' is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. Even the way he always addressed the camera as "America" made me burst out laughing.
-
Damn, another one gone. Go easy my man.
-
Mori I recently watched his first comedic appearance on Def Comedy Jam and that line made me laugh my ass off. Herc & Vern i'm glad you guys came from the heart and not from a statement. I saw him live when he came to Seattle for the Kings of Comedy Tour and he told the story about his 2 year old niece and the "fag" sneaking downstairs for some milk and cookies I was crying and shaking, I never laughed so fuckin hard in my life.
-
R.I.P Mac man, you were in a class of comedy all your own, not because you were wierd but because you bullied everyone else out of it KICK ASS!
-
Oceans 14 minus 1?
Was his last role the slick, unscrupulous used car salesman Bobby B in Transformers?
-
He was such a likable guy, and I always had a feeling he hadn't found his star vehicle yet. Not to knock the work that he did as much to say it sure seemed like he wasn't far away from something classic that would make him break out to a much wider audience. Always sad to see someone with talent taken so early and unexpectedly.
-
He was funny, even when he wasn't speaking. He had a way of rolling his eyes around, or pouting, or feigning weakness...man. It's surreal his talent just snuffed out like that. He's really gone.
-
at least he showed some knowledge ad affection for the man's work.Well done Vern
-
"Starting six feet Under."
-
and may Paul Newman pass peacefully, as well.
-
read up on "nirvana". not the shitty band, but the concept of ceasing to exist, thats "heaven".
bernie, you were a classy muthufuckuh.
-
he played a pastor who was going to the 711 for condoms with a young lady or something.. very humorous scene.

Are you idiots too lazy to type Rest in Peace? I mean of all the times to use an acronym, paying your respects isn't one of them. R.I.P. was used by people who couldn't afford to pay for the full thing on tombstones a century ago. Get with the times and type that shit yo!
-
Sorry couldn't resist... A sad day.. RIP
-
Bernie Mac... that's unbelievable. Just can't be gone....
-
Two Bernies down in one day. Damn :(
-
Brillstein died on Thursday. But I just heard. He was an manager to John Belushi, and I'll bet they're having a few words right about now. But back to the Mac - it's his talkback, America.
-
Wasn't a big fan but knew many friends who thought he was funny as hell. To be honest I have been thinking about not coming to this site anymore because of some of the racist shit bags that have been on recently like Jew Hunter etc..but some of the responses to this awful news has let me see that most people that come on this site are decent human beings..night Bernie Mac see you in the morning!
-
it was exremely sad 2 hear this news today.bernie was funny as hell in player's club.i hope he's in heaven with belushe and farley
-
Holy shit, I am amazed how many familiar names are leaving us forever this year. I don't want to make a bigger deal of it than our losses in Iraq, but this year has surpassed the "they die in 3's" rule and upped it to "they die in 300's." I would have wished good luck to Paul Newman, but it looks like they all need it.
-
His name was really Bernie Mc? Oh well, RIP
-
Wow, very, very bad news, i've only seen much of his movie stuff but I thought he was great. RIP Bernie Mac. Damn you 2008, quit takin' our talent! Maybe it's just me, but I remember a long while ago I used to wonder about a time when there would be a lot of losses within a very short time, what with lots of my movie heroes being part of the same generation (Heston was a shock, but he was pretty old anyway). However this is not what I expected, Wwhat's been lost this last year (off the top of my head: Ledger, Mac, Minghella, any others I may have missed) were way before time. My point, a sad time.
-
...if that puts my lat post into any kinda of context.
-
So Bernie Mac arrives at the pearly gates of heaven... He is greeted by St. Peter who says "To gain admittance to the kingdom of heaven, you must state your case." Bernie thinks for a minute and delivers a lengthy, eloquent speech to explain. St. Peter seems to consider this for a moment. Then St. Peter says "Bernie, my lad... I can't understand one fucking word that comes out of your mumbling, incomprehensible mouth." Bernie is currently in hell.

The end.
-
You made Fred laugh. You will be missed.
-
It killed me (temporarily) when I was a kid. I was lucky to claw my way back from death, but I was youthful and energetic. It's terrible when you're older. People don't take pneumonia seriously enough. It's awful, painful, uncomfortable and WILL kill you if you're not careful or fast enough in getting treatment. If you already have respiratory problems, then it's even more likely your life is endangered by pneumonia. I had double-pneumonia, which could be a death sentence in the 1970s.
I started breathing again. This poor fellow didn't. It sucks; 50 is too young.
My condolences to his family and fans.
-
He will be sorely missed. The Bernie Mac show was very funny. I am sorry I did not watch it more often.

Fuck me.......I loved Bernie. I'll miss you man...

someone call Nirvana a "shitty band". why was that even brought up in a Bernie Mac talkback?
-
If you didn't like the guy's work-- why the fuck would you take the opportunity to post first? You post first to say "I never dug him, but sad he's gone." If you didn't like him, don't post on the guy's fucking eulogy page....twat.
-
That was beautiful. Thank you.
-
In the few films and TV shows and whatnot that I saw him in, he always either put a big grin on my face or made me bust out with a laugh. I remember when my brother and I went to go see Transformers and the scene where he is the used car salesman was hilarious because of his natural comedic talent. "Hey, Mamie! Aw... well I oughta bust you over the head with a rock you old bitch!" ROFL. Funny ass mother fucker... you will be missed Mac. Rest in peace, sir.
-
Say sup to Redd and Robin for us up there will you.
-
On his show when his nephew had to make the diorama for a "dung" beetle and well you can guess what happened... "Uncle Bernie... Am I just not that bright?"
-
may he rest in peace.a funny guy..rip
-
I really would have loved to see him in more projects, another starring role even. In any case, I enjoyed the work he did, and it's always sad when someone who can make you laugh passes on. Rest in peace, Bernie.
-
The local news just reported that he was found on the floor next to his treadmill here in Memphis.
-
I just read it on CNN... Dammit. Issac was the man, even if he was a Scientologist.
Well, the trifecta is moving fast this time. At this rate, another celebrity will be dead by sundown in LA.
-
I also loved his bit in Transformers. I wonder if he made it into the new one?
-
Isaac Hayes dead?!
The man is a fucking legend, RIP Mr. Hayes.
-
... look at everyone who passed away, and we have Paul Newman and Patrick Swayze on the horizon. Such bullshit.
Anyway... anyone taking bets on which is the next legend that kicks the bucket? No God, you can't place one...

(CNN) -- Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film "Shaft," has died, sheriff's officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday. Singer Issac Hayes seen performing in the U.K. last year. Hayes was found dead Sunday at age 65. Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Schular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said. No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement. Hayes was a longtime songwriter and arranger for Stax Records in Memphis, playing in the studio's backup band and crafting tunes for artists such as Otis Redding and Sam and Dave in the 1960s. He released his first solo album in 1967. In 1971, the theme from "Shaft" became a pop hit and won an Academy Award for best original theme song. The song and the movie score also won Grammy awards for best original score and movie theme. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002

"Your the Duke"
-
You Bastards!
-
Now ISAAC HAYES too!?!? What the fuck, Death!?! COME ON! Go take your fuckin' Brad Pitt holiday and kill Anthony Hopkins!

Cuz with this, Stan Winson, George Carlin (I thought he'd outlive me and I'm 28), and all the other's we've lost this year you're fucking RUININ my summer!!!
-
...that Isaac Hayes is gone. The superstar singer/composer and actor was very talented. He was a bad mother--SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Again, very sad.
-
Long live the Duke!
-
I hate this year.

Pneumonia can be a lot more serious than people think, especially when combined with other respiratory problems. The two times I almost died (and I'm 30) involved pneumonia. And I know it's statistically normal, but more and more cool people seem to be dying lately. Hopefully when they turn on the CERN (unless that happened already) it will destroy our universe and we can all go to whatever afterlife there is at the same time and avoid all this grief and missing loved ones and stuff. I can handle that - my life was good. I wrote a book and I can say I've never screwed anyone over - good enough for me!
-
Wonder if they'll have a Darth Chef Memorial show... even though Stone/Parker had a falling out, I'm sure they'll do something.
-
George Carlin, Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes, and Heath Ledger. Man, 2008 sucks shit for famous actors/comedians.

His appearence in Transformers was one of the few bright-spots of that movie.
-
'nuff said :(
-
Bernie's last national public appearance upset a bunch of starched shirts and ended up with a rebuke from a Presidential candidate. That's the perfect final act for a comedian. George Carlin would be jealous.
-
funny guy, It says a lot that he's in transformers for 1 scene but everyone I ever talked o about the film brings up that scene.
-
I pissed myself laughing every time he was on screen. I mean, just one look and i'd be in stitches. Wow, and now Issac Hayes too. That's one shitty weekend. R.I.P. Bernie Mac. Now i'm off to watch 'Bad Santa', possibly the funniest movie this decade, with a box of kleenex. p.s.Parker and Stone shouldn't feel bad in the slightest - Hayes brought that upon himself.
-
Never saw the fascination with him, or why they stuck with that terrible show of his for so long. Sorry to see him pass, but I just did not see why or how this guy was funny at all.
-
...we also lost Stan Winston.
-
Bernie Mac... RIP.
-
I am very saddened to hear the news of these two great black entertainers. I have been a Bernie Mac fan since I saw his films and his tv show which was hilarious. He was truly a funny man and I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and Issac's as well. It's sad that Bernie Mac died from pneumonia. I had it back in 2005 during my senior year in high school, I was very miserable and I thank God I'm still here, it's definitely nothing to play with, but hearing about Bernie's death made me sooo sad and I will never forget his words: "I'll bust yo' head till the white meat shows" and "Who you with?!!!". :( And Issac Hayes, OMG!!!! I loved him on South Park as chef and his "Shaft" theme song is a classic. He will be missed also. I don't know what's going on here!!! Everybody's dying all of a sudden, I guess Paul Newman is next too. This year is not turning out to be good for celebrities lately, it's like an epidemic or something. Very sad. :(
-
Rest in peace man!
-
First Bernie, then Issac. RIP Bruthas.
-
RIP.
-
God's needed someone to make him laugh he needed someone new he had richard and fred and now he needed a new king of laughter so he called in bernie from the bench goodbye bernie mac thinks for the laugh's

I have to say, her great line is so very appropriate here:
DAYUM IT JAMES!!! DAYUM DAYUM DAAAAAAAAYUUUUUUUUUUM!!!!
-
America, it was a sad day.
-
I know how this is going to sound, but hear me out on the surface level:
How is it that a guy like Bernie Mac, famous, well-to-do, living in a non-3rd world country, can die of something like pneumonia in this day and age? Sarcodoisis supposedly was "not" a factor according to what I read (any doctors out there know how true that could really be?).
It just seems crazy that somebody with the means to take of themselves could die from pneumonia.
my questions be damned, it's all a damn shame.
-
... and had every right to be. He made us laugh, and his sitcom had a surprising gentleness to it.
Rest in peace, sir.
-
I loved Bernie Mac--- his comedy, his acting, his style and way of being. I'll miss him a lot. This is a big time bummer.
-
I met him once briefly years ago in Chicago and he was very nice. We went up and asked for if we could take some pictures. He was polite, genuine and talked to us like we were old friends. He was a very down to earth guy and knowing that he isn't going to be around anymore makes me a bit sad. Peace!
