Kevin Smith's ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO gets R rating with no cuts!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
Well, Kevin Smith told me at Comic-Con that August 5 was the day he took his film ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO before the MPAA Appeals Board to try and knock down the film's current NC-17 rating to an R. Shortly after the board's screening, it was announced that the film got it's R rating with no additional cuts. Good news for Kevin and for us. View Askew has all the details about Kevin's victory.
I bet (I hope) that Kevin is already in the midst of preparing a balls-out Unrated ZACK AND MIRI DVD with all the dolphin sex, albino hermaphrodites, cameos from the "Two Girls, One Cup" ladies, and footage from Harry's bachelor party that you can stomach. I can't wait.

Sex isn't a problem for us. Most of your R-Rated comedies, like American Pie or Superbad are viewable for 12 year olds here.
Just the "violent" movies like Iron Man (yes, I said Iron Man!) give the German rating board the creeps these days. (It REALLY is like 1989!) I guess we are even :) -
I guess this means it will be good... since the director hasn't had to compromise his "vision".

after dk gets released as pg13, why does no one question the methods of the mpaa...its a bullshit org setup to protect the big studios...smith won this round, but he is now a big name...he puts zack and miri out 10 years ago, and it stays nc-17...maybe if one year, every studio and every indi got together and chose not to submit their films to the mpaa, we could be finally free of this dinasor

Clerks was originally rated NC17 too, but then got an R-Rating on appeal for its uncut version. While the MPAA is without a doubt questionable, it's probably not because Smith is a "big name".

is right about the MPAA & The Dark Knight. Giving that film a PG-13 shows how corrupt ,"buyable", and out of touch they really are. If that movie had been exactly the same, but did not use the names Batman and Joker, there would have been no question that it was worthy of an R.

They always turn into these raging flame wars. Which is more entertaining than trying to sit through Clerks 2 again (I didn't think Jersey Girl would actually be only his SECOND worst movie.) Mallrats still elicits a few chuckles though.

Really? I laughed my ass off at that movie. The only part i hated was the musical/ dance number. I usually skip right past that. And I think i'm the only guy that actually enjoyed Jersey Girl for what it was, a bonding father/ daughter flick. It was cute and fun (especially the sweeny todd bits). what you guys thought jay and silent bob were gonna jump out and yell "snootch to the muthafuckin nootch"? its a grown up flick, accept it for what it is.

It is interesting, though, that for as dirty and descriptive and "sexually frank" as all his movies are, he always shies away from any real intimacy or sexual connection or sexual nudity. Almost like he can talk about it, but never just let the characters experience it. There might've been a sex scene in Chasing Amy, but it didn't leave an impression. This would be the perfect movie to actually have two characters connect while having sex, but we'll see if he saves it all for Katie Morgan sex jokes. Just a curious observation.

Kevin has said that this movie is the best looking movie he has shot. I believe that translates into a movie that looks like shiny shit. People get uppity when others call Smith a hack. When you feign to be a director as you have no actual directing skills...I'd say you're a hack...or a redneck.

Anybody can make whatever movie they want to make and that goes for Smith too...they may just get slapped with the NC-17...I don't care about that, I'm old enough to watch whatever the fuck I want but it's these greedy Hollywood mother-fuckers that insist on avoiding the NC-17 thereby requiring filmmakers to change their material in order to make more money. Don't blame the MPAA, blame the suits!
The day that I have kids I want to know exactly what it is that they are watching and the MPAA is a great help in such a matter. -

Always good news when Kevin Smith's got a new flick to entertain and challenge us with! Shades of classic Marx Brothers and the Crosby/Hope travel movies in Jay and Silent Bob, and rare is the movie that makes you laugh and cry in equal measure the way Jersey Girl did. I can't wait! Smith doesn't get near the respect he deserves as both director and writer of some of the most true-sounding dialogue in movies today, not to mention what a top-notch comic book writer he is as well as a groundbreaking comedian bringing back the lost art of comedy emoting old school as Silent Bob! I'm going online now to confirm the release date and try and put in for my tickets now, do they sell them this early in advance?

I was at the Z&MMAPORNO panel at Comic Con. The clip was hilarious and Smith may have outdone himself this time. Maybe his best film.

I agree I don't think it's R material but people all say "two face's face was so horrific, there was visible FLESH!!! FLESH AND TENDONS therefore R." Sure it was realistic and pretty nasty looking but it wasn't a Romero piece with the insides falling out.

Considering the stuff they cut was graphic sex scenes with Katie Morgan, yeah, I'm looking forward to the BluRay release with the cut scenes. And I just don't buy all the haters. I still say they're jealous of a guy with the sack to put himself out there and make films. He writes comic books, writes geeky dialogue, is very accessible to fans, and is amazingly honest about who he is. Yet losers here try to bring the dude down.

He may be a great husband and dad but if he's got an Ace up his sleeve he better fucking play it soon because he's been suckin, and you fucking-well know it. Who cares what Smith does anymore? Starting a talkback with his name on it gives everyone a chance to chime in about how much he sucks and that seems to have more worth these days than his films do. That's pretty fucking lame.

kevin smith was alright in the 90s, but his same bullshit nowadays is just old. he's outdated and irrelevant. i used to be a fan but now i just think it's pathetic! lose 100 lbs, shave the goatee, put yourself in your own movies without the bs 'no speaking part until i have something significant to say' and become the white m. night making scarrreeeee movies. now that's one way to reinvent your self, smithy!
