Platinum Dunes Going Action/Noir With FIASCO HEIGHTS??

Published at:  Aug 06, 2008 10:42:51 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Platinum Dunes, who've been actively working to remake horror classics like FRIDAY THE 13th, THE HITCHER, and THE BIRDS, is heading a slightly different direction with FIASCO HEIGHTS - described as an "action thriller" with "shades of film noir".

It's about what happens when...

a gunman returns to the crime-ridden city of Fiasco Heights and teams with a degenerate gambler/private eye on the run from a syndicate to look for a beautiful femme fatale and a mysterious briefcase.

...says THIS ARTICLE in Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be directed by Samuel Bayer, who has directed videos for artists like Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow, The Offspring, Green Day, and Garbage. He also directed the action-heavy Domino's "Gotham City Pizza" TV spot that's currently in circulation (see it HERE).

So, not to be pedantic, but...why would someone live in a city named Fiasco Heights?

  • That remake of The Hitcher sucked balls. Never did understand why Bay was charge of a horror company anyway. He should've been funding R rated action flicks.

    FIASCO HEIGHTS RULES

    by the insneider

I've read Kyle Ward's script and you guys are all wrong. Fiasco Heights is the next Sin City. The writing is fucking solid. The story is fucking awesome. The characters could be cool as hell depending on who they get. This movie is gonna blow you away, trust me. Maybe I'll send in a script review under a pseudonym.

    This is Bayer's feature debut?

    by the phantom limb

Wow, that's sad. After most of the '90s high-profile video directors had gone on to features (such as Fincher, Tarsem, Dayton & Faris, Corbijn, Pellington, Romanek, Jonze, Glazer, Gondry, and the loathed Ratner and McG). I was very curious as to what direction Bayer would go, as he's done some fine videos over the years, but this is pretty disappointing. Who's left from that era to make the transition? Sednaoui, Cunningham, Muller, Kerslake...?

    Oh yeah.

    by the phantom limb

Jake Scott's another of 'em that switched to features. Never saw "Plunkett & Macleane," though.
