Here's A Feel-Good Trailer For Gregor Jordan's THE INFORMERS (Written By Bret Easton Ellis)!

Published at:  Aug 05, 2008 11:56:45 PM CDT

Beaks here...

You know what I like about Bret Easton Ellis? He has such a cheery outlook on humanity. Consider this:

"The insanity becomes commonplace." "You can't really make it in this town unless you're really willing to do some awful things." "Ow, my butthole!" Sounds like life in Los Angeles to me!

This is from director Gregor Jordan, a pretty talented fella whose last two films - BUFFALO SOLDIERS and NED KELLY - were shelved for a year or so before getting dumped by their respective studios (the latter, despite the presence of Heath Ledger, Naomi Watts and post-LOTR/POTC Orlando Bloom, could only manage a domestic gross of $86,959). Thankfully, THE INFORMERS appears to be a much easier sell than his previous pictures (sex and nihilism and Amber Heard strike me as a winning combination). I wouldn't be surprised if this turns up at the Toronto Film Festival next month. Jordan has to catch a break at some point.

If the YouTube embed goes dead, it's your fault.

Winona looks anorexic, they don't even show poor Renfro, and I heard that they shot it in URUGUAY pretending to be LA. Been there etc.

I'm a huge fan of Ellis BUT...

    by billemic

This movie looks pretty bad. It just seems grim and humorless. Ellis' work is nihilistic and grim to the extreme, but it's also hilarious. This seems like just another "LA is a pit of sex, drugs, and despair" movie.

    by lonegun

This trailer is so unappealing. And I say that as one who read and enjoyed the book. Read it when it came out and actually attended a literary festival were Easton Ellis read from it. Interesting guy. If I remember correctly, he said that he writes standing up, at his kitchen counter.

A remake of Less than Zero

    by billemic

that was incredibly true to the book would be much appreciated. It's a shame that they didn't get it right the first time around, as Robert Downey was perfect casting.

It looks like it was actually fucking SHOT in the 80's, which is pretty damn awesome. Looks pretty great overall, what with the pounds and pounds of cynicism layered on there....yup my kind of movie. And Winona Rider will never stop being the hottest Gen-X poster girl as far as I'm concerned.

I respectfully disagree...no one has an 80's haircut or clothing in this trailer.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlAXMgudYo8 ; the 80's were gaudy and loud colors...poofy hair...shoulder pads....... I'm just saying. http://content7.flixster.com/photo/30/97/21/3097217_gal.jpg; http://content7.flixster.com/photo/99/12/35/9912353_gal.jpg

    Dead wrong on the 80s

    by auraboy

No only Miami Vice was loud colours and pastel hues and big shoulder pads and that's because it was Miami. Look at an actual fashion magazine from the period this is set and you'll see how most L.A kids dressed is a lot more like this movie. It's all wayfarers and black suits...er kind of like today actually. Seriously the 80s is not the day-glo music videos - at least not for most people. Ellis should know, this is more or less short novels based around his life growing up in L.A plus a load of vampire stuff thrown in for laughs.

I always thought the bored 80s vampires were pretty good overstated satire. But I guess some people take everything seriously. Some people apparently took American Psycho as a homophobic novel. Okay...

Avery was going to make Glamorama, but

    by beastie

I guess he couldn't get financing and then that whole DUI/manslaughter thing happened. I think Avery owns the adaptation rights, too so we probably will never see it. If you squint really hard and listen to loud pop music while watching it, though, you could pretend Zoolander is actually Glamorama.

    Looks Like Shit

    by jjn1268019

The book was okay, definetly not Ellis' best work, the trailer looks terrible. There seems to be no comedy in the film what so ever, much like Less Than Zero, which I thought was anything but entertaining. I always considered The Informers (novel) Less Than Zero's bastard child, I think this film may live up to that. Also I heard they took out the vampires! By far that was the only interesting part of the book. I cant imagine sitting through this in a theater, unless heavily sedated. Other than American Psycho all the other adaptations of his work have been crap. Rules of Attraction I thought was his best work but I was very disappointed in what Roger Avery did with that, HORRIBLE CASTING! James Vander Beak! Get the fuck out! Who would cast that asshole? Dont they realize his head is 4 times the size of a regular human head and when but on a BIG SCREEN he looks like a fucking retard. Not to mention half way through the film it looked like they went over budget and had to use scraps left over on the cutting room floor... but I digress, this trailer looks like shit.

When I saw Zoolander, I thought that it must be, in the very least, inspired by Glamorama. The similarities are astounding.

isn't the only one who grew up in the 80's. If they were to remove the intro to that trailer...and present it to an audience of past yuppies from the 80's...they wouldn't be able to identify the period. Besides that point... the trailer doesn't do anything for me.
