Well, you all know how I feel about the Creature... He's one of my most favoritest monsters in the whole widest world, and I just want to see it done right, or not at all. (Of course this begs the interesting question of 'What is RIGHT, Harry?' Good question. On second thought... let the creature stay in black and white and in 3-D!

Grocer here with some "Black Lagoon" tidbits you may find interesting. I'm a (DELETED EMPLOYMENT RECORD) who read a cool monster/action script a couple of years ago called "AMPHIBIAN", written by Donald Lamoreaux. What's interesting about the script, aside from the fact that it's pretty kick-ass, is that it was one of the projects being considered by Universal as a possible remake of "Creature From the Black Lagoon."

Stan Winston was attached as director for a time and according to some who read both this script and the John Carpenter script, AMPHIBIAN was thought by some to be the better project. That's no slight to Carpenter, (he's one of my faves), but Amphibian reads like a modern-day re-thinking of CFTBL - a balls-to-the-wall PREDATOR-like scarefest set in the Amazon.

Anyway, nobody seemed to be able to make a clear-cut decision on Creature From the Black Lagoon and the project was put on the back burner when Universal was sold to the soda-pop people.

But now with the big-time success of THE MUMMY, Universal seems more than anxious to dig up all their classic monster titles and give them the cheeseball/campy PG-13 treatment. If the studio hasn't made any concrete decisions regarding CFTBL, it may behoove them to give AMPHIBIAN another look. That's just my opinion, but I have a feeling there are many others that would rather not see Creature From the Black Lagoon turn into another goofy Stephen Sommers crapfest.
