‘What The Fuck Is That Thing??’ Behold The Lepidopterists!! THE VENTURE BROS. 3.10!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
“I think the less hurtful word is ‘protagonist’.”
A lepidopterist is an individual who catches and collects, studies, or simply observes lepidopterans, members of an order encompassing moths and the three superfamilies of butterflies, skipper butterflies, and moth-butterflies.
“The Lepidopterists,” entirely devoid though it is of Hank, Dean and Rusty Venture, is one of the funniest “Venture Bros.” installments ever forged.
Dr. Mrs. Monarch is back in the pink pillbox. 21 and 24 advise a new partner. The pirate discovers there are worse things than getting subdued. And we get to meet both Doe and Cardholder.
Wait till 11:30 p.m. Sunday to catch it on Cartoon Network or just watch the whole thing now with fewer commercials here.

This and the Last Episode Are Way Up There in the Rankings
by aquatarkusman
Henchman #1... getting sucked off by an angel... Voltron with an ice cream clown-arm... "You're not the boss of Tiger-bot Hesh!"... "Yeah, well have fun on the robot reservations, suckers... we're not gonna honor those bogus treaties!" Wait a minute, those last two were from retro-Adult Swim tonite.
-
So damned good. This season is the best ever so far. I love it.
-
I didn't even realize this season had a real arc until this episode. It seemed like just a support season, filling in holes. It looks like after this next episode, when the two-parter starts, we're going to have yet another bad-ass giant battle, like the one between the Monarch henchmen and Phantom Limb's Guild type. What I love about Venture Bros. is that it manages to be totally fucking hilarious and a pretty goddamn good action cartoon to boot.
-
Love the Ventronic!!!!!!
-
...When they likened Jonas Venture, to the offspring of GI Joe and Rainbow Brite. Classic!!!! I hope we don't have to wait that long for Season 4!
-
And I'm quite certain I'm ironing a shirt!
-
cuz these guys need to get some big time gigs...
-
an angel with a dart gun
-
on the website for me. Dammit.
-
Did they go back to the full theme used at the beginning of the season. Was it just because the episode ran shorter than the others? I know it's not a big deal, but when this show changes anything from what they regularly do, I assume there's a fairly awesome reason why. Also, why had Dr. Girlfriend reverted back to her old costume? Did she feel more empowered or a better "queen" in it? She just kind of changed at the end of that episode...
-
"Did you ever make G.I. Joe hump Rainbow Brite as a kid? That's what their kid would look like!" One of the funniest quotes from this show ever.
-
this season cannot come out on DVD soon enough
-
Great in all respects and a reminder that The Monarch is actually pretty capable when he needs to be. Also, in spite of how funny 21 and 24's stuff was, I would have loved for them to be killed while they were doing their speech about how invincible they are.
-
you cant kill them off.
-
I finally decided to create a talkback account just so I could talk about how awesome this show really is. Waiting for season 4 will be slow torture.
-
I like the cut of his hair.
-
It feels like the moment that you realize a relationship isn't going to work out. I feel awful that I really can't make myself like this season. I'm just now noticing that the comedy aspects of the show are coming from the "I NO WAT THARE REFERNCING AND THERE 4 I FIND THAT FUNNY" class of comedy, and I just can't love the characters as much as I did before this turned into the Robot Chicken Bros. The only truly hilarious episodes in this season were the Quymm and Sgt. Hatred eps. I'm glad they've started work on Season 4, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the last. Sigh.
-
Ned flying all willy nilly out of Spider Skull Island in his arm-pod made my day. lmfao.
-
Great line! Best episode so far! There was so much greatness in this one, that it will be hard to top this. Are the DVD's uncensored? I would like to watch it without all the beeps.
-
That was friggin' HILARIOUS! Haha! Tranq Junkie Pirate.
-
I don't usually laugh at anything on TV.
-
"It's like gettin' sucked off by an angel"
-
While this season has had its ups and and downs, I am wondering if any episode in the future might feature Hank and Dean?
You know, the VENTURE BROS? -

I Still Want Triana's Friend from the Double Date To Reappear
by aquatarkusman
The one who wants to become a villainess and who thought Dr. Girlfriend was hitting on her.
-
While they do have those moments, I can't help but disagree with you. The Venture Bros has been about spoofing the Action Cartoons since the very beginning and making references is part of that. There still is a story arc this season and what is great is that we got to see the origins of many of the characters. Name another cartoon that takes the time to explain the backstory of the 2nd tier characters as well as the main ones. This universe is growing and it actually feels like the season is going to end with a bang(or so I hope). The buildup they are doing is incredible. So what you see as just jokes and references, I see as pieces to a whole package. Can't wait for next week!
-
Nobody else is having trouble playing the videos? The Adult swim site is showing up fine, but whenever I click on a video I get a blank white page with some tabs at the top. Never had this problem before.
-
It's just the name of the show, man, do be so literal. Sheesh. This was one of the funniest episodes ever. I couldn't care less that Hank and Dean were absent. They'll be back.
-
That episode kicked ass tehdeej, its not just recognizing the references, it the little things, like the Ghost Pirate suffering under the g-force while the giant robot swings it's sword. The comedy is still there for me, but this show stopped feeling like a simple comedy show for me a long time ago. If I just want funny there's always Family Guy, this show is more like, I don't know, a really great comic book.
-
And Jonas Venture Jr *is* a Venture Bros. That is what is brilliant about the show, by introducing Jonas Jr, the writer's gave themselves a whole different range of directions to go in. Besides, Hank recently found out he's "immortal" and you know that's not going to be a one-off Highlander joke they're going to forget about.
-
of a TV show, within the TV show is nothing short of brilliant. 21 and 24 recognizing their status as reoccurring characters... holy shit. There's gotta be an "ism" word for that. Can't wait for the final eps.
-
C'mon there were intruders in the museum! "Let me tell you a story about a henchman named Speedy..." They know thier world and the rules exist within the world. Beautiful.
-
I can't see the videos, but I'm on the freakin' east coast of America so it should work. Instead, all I get is a blank white screen and my browser says "Done loading". Anyone got any ideas?
-
I was having the same problem, but I went in and updated my flash player by going to this site http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/index.html I don't think it has anything to do with your coast. I'm East Coast too, only it's the East Coast of the Mississippi maine.
-
I was trying to spell the word "man" phonetically the way we say it here in Memphis, but it looks like the state of Maine. If you've seen Hustle and Flow you know how we say it.

The Tomb Raider ref was classic. Doe and cardholder are great to
by tallscott
when 24 talks about how creepy it was when laura croft drowns. I also loved Doe and Cardholder. Hope we see them as Venture Regulars. Of corse the line that stamps this one a vanture great was the Pirates geting tranqed
-
Brock's "These guys like their system..." speech...
Nailed it. -
I love that guy! Seriously though, Dr. Zoidberg, any episode of VB this season has been funnier than either of the Futurama direct-to-DVD movies.
-
21 and 24 need to move from henching to arching in their own show. Effing brilliant.
-
detectives from barton fink?
-
the nets....im stocked...mabye if it picks up more steam, the guys will take the hint and do it
-
who in the hell is the other guy hanging out w/ David Bowie & Iggy? The commentary mentions Adam Ant at one point but never clearly mentions whether it's him or not. Anybody know for sure?
-
From your lips to the ears of god as the saying goes. That would be freaking awesome if they do it!!!
-
It was Klaus Nomi. He was a bizarre German singer who was mildly popular in his niche in the 80s. Bowie took him under his wing a bit, and the two performed together some...the guy could basically sing like a female opera singer (and did, in many strange songs). I think he died of AIDS back when AIDS was just becoming a serious problem.
By the way, WAS last week's episode out of order, or what? Either way, it and this one are fantastic. -
Seem equal parts Men In Black types mixed with hardboiled, fast-talking, noir movie detectives from the '40s.
-
Nope, remember two weeks ago, after the credits there was a two weeks later notice?
Last week took place in those two weeks. Jackson explained it on his livejournal(check the responses). -
Yeah, fine, and Number One...Why do you keep sending those two anyway?I don't know, they have the right mix of likability and invulnerability that make great henchmen.Best ep so far.
-
Now that Rusty is fair game for the Monarch, anyone willing to bet that the finale is us finally finding out why Monarch hates Rusty so much, Hank thinking he's unkillable and getting whacked, and Brock then going into a rage and (permanently) killing Girlfriend, 24, or 21, until Jonas Sr. comes back from the grave to lay the smackdown on Monarch in the last minute of the season?
-
Got to love the Captain. this is the best show on TV.
-
If we didn't see a body there is still a chance...
-
Standard Comic Book Rule of Death applies: Unless you see a body (and even sometimes then), they're not dead.
-
The Voltron bit kind of put me off the episode at first, though Ned's Clown Cone ship was pretty awesome. I think they should have gone more "Thunderbirds" with the bit instead of recycling a gag that "Mecha-Shiva" did so much better two seasons ago. 21 and 24 are dangerously close to realizing they're in a cartoon. As for the final confirmation that the Guild is just a bunch of insane overgrown children who like fighting in costumes so much that they practically blackmail the world into joining in, well...that's nice, but it opens up a real turning point in the show. One got the feeling the characters were self-aware about how ridiculous the whole "Guild vs. Adventurers vs. OSI" thing seemed, but between Jonas Jr and Brock, the bubble just popped on the whole "Costume Play-as-Career" angle the Guild's been running. It'll take one hell of a writing job to salvage this show from a "Moonlighting"-type of downturn (post-David and Maddie hook-up.) BUT...I'm very confident Hammer and Publick have it in them.
-
The GI Joe logo version. Been waiting for that one.
-
... were just extreme mutations of Dragnet's Gannon and Friday, although nothing can beat the Simpsons getting Harry Morgan himself to reprise the role (with Harry Shearer as Jack Webb) // Gannon: Gee, Joe, you haven't been the same since your son went crazy in Vietnam. / Friday: It's a pain that never ends.
-
It's throwaway line from season one, during the flashback to college where Rusty says something along the lines of "If you think that's weird you should see the eyebrows on this guy in my creative writing class" or something to that effect. Obviously Rusty gave Monarch's poetry a vicious workshopping and Monarch vowed revenge. That's my guess anyway.
-
Being from Memphis as well, I've tried that phonetically spelling the regional dialect. It looks retarded written down. Actually it sounds retarded too... See if you know these words nirkel, foe, and sawsha (hint: I got this one a lot when I worked at Papa John's as a teen)
-
THANKS! That was driving me crazy! In regards to last weeks episode I haven't watched it yet.Matter of fact I only watched last nights episode 'cause the curiousity was killing me. Pretty damn funny. I now have to go back and find the rest of season 3 @ adult swim or somewhere where the earlier ep.s are'nt broken up in two minute segments.I'm hoping to be caught up by this Friday. Thanks again.
