In undrelated news, I finally read Watchmen

    by arcadiands

It was interesting at times, horribly wordy at other times (im still half-crosseyed), and while the buildup to the ending was very fun, the ending itself was fall apart silly. There's a great deal of emotional build-up that has no release - no real payoff. A certain character meets a certain conclusion in the snow and its utterly pointless. And it ends with a big "so was the end justified by the means?" and ROLL CREDITS, its over. Then we get a series of epilogue moments, the first of which (in Florida) was very nice. It should have ended there. Then we get a self-referential geek-moment at the final epilogue that is just flaccid.
All in all it certainly is a great story - way too many words for a comic book. Id give it a 9/10 score.
PS: the missing writer - what exactly was that about? It went absolutely nowhere.

yeah, you don't remember the writer and the indian artist on the beach talking about the monster they'd designed for what they thought was a movie? the writer concieved the home planet they came from, the artist designed the creature from his notes, the geneticists actually created the thing. also remember they were all on that ship celebrating the end of the project, the writer and the artist were getting it on below decks and the writer realizes they're right next to a ticking bomb... you don't remember that?

    Arcadian

    by chocolatejesus

(SPOILERS FOR WATCHMEN) Normally, I don't like to accuse people of "not getting it", but in this case you really didn't get it. The science fiction portion of that ending was totally out there, and was a means to an end. That end being the inescapable moral quandary that the hero characters are forced into. The character who had the situation in the snow had that situation because of the very nature of his character: He was the only one totally unwilling to compromise, even for the "greater good." You should go back and read it again, the ending is really pretty amazing, and gives payoff to each character based on their response to the quandary.

    The Dead Alive

    by estacado1

Apart from bringing the once-alive-then-dead back, they stepped it up by bringing the dead-from-the-beginning back. Might as well call the show Dead Rising. The biggest mistake they made with the show wasn't time travel, but super healing. Super healing just sucks out any real tension from the show.

    by angry_bastard

Season 1 was good, season 2 was shite. We know Nicky is back because NBC showed us a big old commercial with Ali Larter saying, "We're back!" Peter and Nathan's dad is not dead, HRG was given Claire's blood to live. I have a feeling that the Menudo wonder twins will be back as well. /sigh

I like Forster, but the only thing I can think of that he was great in was Jackie Brown.

As for the guy who stopped watching after a couple episodes in to Season 2, I don't blame you. The last third or so the show redeems itself and becomes watchable again. Not enough that you "need" to start watching again, but I'll give the third season a try. I won't stick around this time if it goes to shit again.
