A Magnificient JOAN OF ARC Billboard from Cannes

Published at:  Jun 12, 1999 1:54:44 AM CDT

Well Swissben sent in this shot he snapped of this tremendous billboard for Luc Besson's upcoming JOAN OF ARC epic. God I hope the poster is indicative of the look Besson is striving for. That man could really make a truly fantastic film out this story. And as is typical with all Luc Besson movies... Nobody has seen hide nor hair of the script, and it's a good chance that there won't be test screenings for this film. Besson is one of the few filmmakers that really understands how to keep a secret. HINT: You don't put it out in front of everybody! Well, I hope you enjoy this billboard as much as I did.

    Joan of Arc

    by leghorn

It has a long way to go to surpass the miniseries on coxial. In my book it has 1 strike against it from the get go-Faye Dunaway

Milla Jovovich has got to be the ugliest actress working today

Right up there with Hugh Grant.

    Yipee! When's it coming out?

    by corran fox horn

Milla Jovovich is incredibly pretty fool! Especially when she has long soft brown hair, like in Kuffs. I admit, she didn't look great in The Fifth Element...Anyway, I can't wait to see this movie. I like Leelee Sobieski, but Joan of Arc the miniseries was hampered by *being* a TV production, and although I haven't seen it all yet, it seemed to be just okay. This movie will rock though.

u musta like the tv version of Titanic, too...

    by danito burrito

Not that it was bad or anything. What I bothered to watch was comparable to the Big (screen)One. It even had people I liked in it. Didja ever see any other stuff by this dude 'Besson'? Have you seen the depth these actors can reach, even Faye Dunaway. The male leads are strong, and I am eager to see Milla do this. I have faith that she'll pull it off VERY NICELY. Wah! I'm havin'LeeLoo flashbacks.. I've been waiting for this since it was mentioned the first time. Bring It On Already!

    Joan

    by lullaby

Luc Besson's JOAN OF ARC will be released in November (on the 14th, I believe).
Having read the treatment and first draft of the screenplay, I can tell you that it is VERY interesting... although that's about ALL I can tell (better keep the mystery, anyway).
As for BRAVEHEART-esque... Besson had up to 4000 extras on the set at the same time (all in armor, and some 1500 on horseback... makes for a lot of manure).

    Great poster...

    by essemtee

...as for the movie itself, it better not turn into some campfest, loaded with unnecessary comic relief, like that 5th Element movie. Gawd, that was disappointing!

    Dunaway... no good?

    by cinemapen

Are you mad Leghorn??? Dunaway, a strike??? Watch "Three Days of the Condor" and you'll see true greatness from that lady. The real strike against this film will be Hoffman, but this is counterbalanced by the wildly talented and brilliant Milla!

    Milla in leather...

    by pseudo

I've big expectations of this movie. Not that I'm a femanist, it's just good to see a film being made about a remarkable and strong women. Now, it doesn't hurt, imho, that they've cast the wonderfully beautiful Milla Jovovich in the lead role. Oh, my god! Markatability and talent in one package. BTW, I disagree with those of you who didn't think she looked striking as Leeloo. Bestill my beating heart!
    Cheers,

    joan of arc

    by moviebuffann

Joan of Arc will no doubt, do VERY well. Mila looks incredibly true to life as Joan, she has the hair and the whole nine. Her hair is short as hell, and I have faith in Besson that this is THE movie to see this fall. All the pictures and the little tips here and there has me anticipating this movie more than any other movies.

For some images of this movie, see: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Lot/3761/joagallery.html

The official site is also up as well. With billboard image serving as entrance image. You will need shockwave for this site though.

Why Mila is casted in this? Maybe because her husband is the director? or maybe the role is truly hers?

    We'll see...

    Irony

    by johnny bartlet

    SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE seen the script to this film, actually. There's this girl that starts hearing holy voices, and fights a war. At the end, she gets burned at the stake. In fact, this script was blatantly shadowed in a recent television movie... OH YEAH... I forgot, Besson's woman, Milla is in it, so expect some frontal nudity (for what it's worth... I mean... she IS Milla, for God's sake...). Anyway, sorry to spoil it for you... I like the poster though. A bunch of people en masse, and a flag. WOW.
