PRINCESS AND THE FROG trailer ribbits across the nets
Hey folks, Harry here... We got a couple of big trailers coming this night - first we have Disney's THE PRINCESS & THE FROG - Disney's return foray into the realm of traditional animation and doesn't it look lovely? I'm very curious to see how they stretch this story into a feature narrative. Though talking lightning bugs - you can't go wrong with. Give it a look and let's hear what you think...

Heard that Disney is getting a lot of heat about this movie?
-
in The Frog Princess, traditionally, the frog was a princess, and it was a prince who kissed her. evidently for the last couple hundred years we've needed to imagine some hot girl on frog action so it always gets perverted. bah, I say!!
-
I really can not stand for racist garbage such as this passing for a kid-aimed film. I am truly offended!
-
Because I want more traditional, hand-drawn animation. That being said, I remember back in 1993, seeing the Lion King trailer for the first time. It was filled with grandeur and majesty. It made such an impression on me I still remember it after all of these years. 15 years later...this is all they can give us? Awkward comedy and a creepy firefly? I sincerely hope this is good. I miss the Disney neo-Renaissance.

Justin Wilson!I gar-on-tee
-
Anything featuring the voices of black people is racist.
-
That looked completely awful
-
That lightning bug was the most fucking stereotypical ignorant depiction of any New Orleans resident I have ever seen! Oh Disney, it was nice knowing you before the NAACP takes your money!
-
I'm glad that they're getting back to the 2D animation, and the animation does look good, but I hate that they've messed up the story. I'm pretty sure they realized they didn't have a black princess, so they decided to do the story this way. I like that they just made a reference to the fairytale, instead of trying to say this is the fairytale, but I really wanted them to do THE fairytale to go along with all the other classic princess movies. I mean, Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty were classics, and I was hoping they were going to get back into that with this film (when it was first announced), but I'm not so sure. But, either way, I'll go see it since it looks like a decent return to 2D animation, and that's all Disney cares about.
-
I wonder if this trailer is even showing us any of the movie. It seems, to me, like maybe it's just a little funny bit to let us know the movie is coming instead of showing us actual footage. They've done it before. I especially think it might be with the camera zooming out and revealing the firefly that talks and flies off toward the sign. Not that they couldn't have just added that to footage from the movie, but I just feel like this is not from the actual movie. But I could be wrong.
-
Awaiting this... 'Dr. Facilier' character who KD plays, because his voice is some heavy duty, diesel shit that can immortalize anything.
-
Actually looks good. Would be nice, seeing that only 1 of them has been worth seeing thus far.
-
I'm there opening night!
-
have somebody checked the immense gallery on that site?
-
she doesn't want to kiss the frog like in the traditional story 'cause thats nasty! HOW FUNNY IS THAT? They took the one chance to redeem 2D animation in the eyes of the movie-going public and proceeded to piss on my eyeballs. If Walt Disney is ever unfrozen I wouldnt be surprised if he suicide-bombed the studio for this
-
theres a survey near the bottom you can take...i took it....*Hmmmm, "I feel visiting this website is a good way to spend my time."...HELL YEA I STRONGLY AGREE BIOTCH!*
-
Obama, potenial firstblack president, now first black disney princess. times sure have changed
-
dont you let get that thats the point... hence the change of title. This isnt the frog princess, infact the main character breaks the fourth wall to admit she knows the fairy tale. it amazes me how critical the people of this website can be over a teaser trailer.
-
is by having other characters portraying the worst stereotypes of black people? nice
-
its always been the frog prince...ergo leading to the mythology that the love of a beautiful woman could turn any man from a frog into prince charming...except life doesnt work out that way...you marry a frog...he stays a frog
-
she didnt kiss the frog...she tried to kill it....if someone wants a good project, now would be the time for a big budget film of the original grimm fairy tales...talk about a horror show
-
Is Cajun. Still a stereotype. But more acceptable.
-
While the final film may be a cracker, this features some self conscious, overly direct vo work that drags it down low.
-
I don't understand... the firefly is a black stereotype? He looks as scraggly as all the southern critters in "The Rescuers" to me, or half of the white characters in "The Waterboy". Is he voiced by a black actor? Is the dialect distinctly african-american? I honestly don't know. He's unappealing, certainly... but then I've never been overly fond of poor Southern characters in any movie, and was completely baffled by America's fascination with them in the late 70's to early 80's. Hell, when General Zod and James Bond are dealing with fat sheriffs and southern yokels, you know the trend has gotten out of hand.
-
ol N'Awlins as done by Disney artists. Oh and why the hell is anyone offended by this?
-
No the dialect is not at all distinctly African American. Actually moreso white.
-
It's been only a few years, but it's good to see it back in full form. And yes, most Disney animated flicks have some amount of goofiness to them. If it's more epic than a girl trying to kiss a toad and a cajun firefly, we'll see.
-
...African American! Bring on the decade old recycled hip hop references...what do you think?..."you go girl", "raise the roof", and maybe even a "...who let the frogs out"?
-
...the "Princess" brand empire. "We've been shoveling recycled Disney Classics down white kid's throats for years now...I wonder if there are differently pigmented children we can steal lunch money from for a while!"...
-
can anyone say "bland?"
I can. Please join me. -
Before you call it bland could you actually wait to see the film? Or perhaps the actual trailer which is almost a year away. That teaser is to set up the tone, it's not in the movie. If you didn't like Aladdin or Mermaid you won't like this? However, if you do..
And Nastee_Flembot, if you're gonna rag him could you at least take to the time to spell his name right? It's Lasseter.. try and google it sometime. -
The readily offended are going to have a field day with this one. Disney draws these gnats like flies. Remember when Aladdin came out and Casey Kasem's moron ass went wild, claiming the film impugned Arabs and Middle Easterners because, wait for it, the film's villian, Jafar, was. an. arab! -Kind of like the film's hero and heroine. I can't wait to see people claim that because the New Orleans deep-south characters don't speak like relatively accent-less midwesterners, that it's horribly racist.
-
It has been no secret ever since Disney started working on this over a year ago that the Princess would be black. Why such shock and outrage?
Oh, and all of the people who were offended by the firefly? Should we then all be offended when the Saints fans all scream 'Who dat?'
Please, folks... -
Mmmmmmmm, dark meat...
-
I watched Lilo & Stitch on my PS#, and it looked terrible. Now granted, that was a standard def DVD, but the PS3 upscales it to HD. Not sure if there is much of a future for traditional animation anymore.
-
You guys just can't wait to tear a movie apart, can you? It's just a teaser. At least wait for the actual trailer. Granted it wasn't a particularly good teaser, but at least give it a damn chance. If John Lasseter is trying to bring back traditional 2D Disney magic, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I want this movie to succeed. And if any of you still have a soul, you will too. Honestly, did none of you have a childhood?
-
I dare you to go down to Louisianna and try to understand the typical small town citizen be they Black or White...it's damned near impossible. With all the French, English, and Caribbean influences LOTS of these folks talk in a way that would make Step and Fetchit sound like they were speaking the Queens propper English. But you are right...the NAACP will throw a hissy fit..juz yu wash.
-
I'm pretty sure that the Firefly's accent is supposed to be a Cajun accent, which, technically would make his character "white."
-
I've got many a DVD of "traditional" hand drawn animation Ye, and it looks great. Great. Perhaps you should go to an optician instead of complaining about the HD?
And I can't wait for the Blu-Ray of Sleeping Beauty! It's going to rock. -
This is AICN! We do three things here: 1) Crap all over anything new that has even the merest hint of being non-violent or gay-looking. 2) Wallow in our past love of sci-fi and fantasy and how nothing will ever be that good again and proclaim all new attempts to be feeble and probably gay and 3) loudly protest anything bigoted in any way, unless it's really, really gay. Penis.
-
I'm not going to flip over Newman doing the songs until I hear them. His songs for Disney and Pixar movies have been hit and miss with me. And at least we know he won't be singing... I thought the song he wrote for Sarah Machlachlan for TS2 was beautiful... However, all that said, I still don't see why they didn't bring Menken in. His songs for ENCHANTED were gold. Or at the very least, the Lopez's who wrote the songs for FINDING NEMO-THE MUSICAL at WDW's Animal Kingdom.
-
...racist per se, but it's definitely treading that fine line. Still, accents themselves do not a racist caricature make.
-
Re: Aladdin. None of the 'good' characters looked or acted remotely arabic, except Jafar and the oily merchant in the beginning :-)
As for the original fairy tale, man is it weird!! Look here:

I love that it's also called "Iron Henry" for a servant character that only appears in the final paragraph haha. And talk about stereotypes geez, you'll see when you read it.. -

We finally get a throwback to the classic Disney and still?
by terry1978
Jesus, the lord God could shit out a movie starring Han Solo, Indiana Jones, James Kirk, and Batman all on a team mission and someone on here would say it's still not enough.
-
Bring back the motherfucking Song of the South! It is a DAMNED SHAME that movie is hidden, ignored and..pardon the term.."Black Listed"; simply because some folks have some serious unresolved self image issues.
Hey..if fuckin Darby O' Gill didn't offend me..Uncle Remus sure as hell shouldn't offend anyone either. -
So, if you're not watching an HD source, exactly HOW is that HD? Upscaling isn't true HD, genius. Keep your mouth shut if you don't know what the hell you're talkng about. Oh, and the PS3 doesn't do real upscaling, either.
-
Meh. Matter of opinion I guess. Jasmine and Aladdin had darker skin, I don't know what else would have qualified them as arabic. I just never understood the flack raised over a villain looking evil and distorted. Don't all Disney villians? As I recall, part of the outrage was over the portrayal of Arabic culture. They changed lines in the opening song "Arabian Nights" to make it seem less dark and cut throat. The source material, of course, really isn't that rosy to begin with.
-
I'm not sure how I would feel if I were an African American. I mean, isn't a bit racist to stuff the first "black princes" Disney cartoon with voodoo, jazz and New Orleans? Oh well. Whatever.
-
Black princesses aren't good enough for white magic. I think that's what the film's telling us. The only faerie godmothers willing to work with a black princess are voodoo witches. Great job, Disney!
-
Also I enjoyed Tarzan, mostly because Phil Collins is cool.
I like Pixar, but I haven't seen anything from Disney in a long time that has hand drawn animation. I'm waiting....not for this shit though. -

The firefly's got a white guy's voice. The princess seems like
by baked
WTF is wrong with some of the people here? That said, Song of the South was some incredibly racist shit, and don't get me started on the evil gay Scar and the gang-banger hyenas in the Lion King.
But really, this teaser's interesting. -
Given that this Princess lives in New Orleans I don't see how she could avoid Voodoo, Jazz, and all that is Nawlins...these are valid contributions to this tapestry of this country and the best of Black American culture.
Would you rather see a Disney Princess following the Prosperity Gospel, listening to Lil John, and living in section 8 housing in Inglewood? -
Name one Disney feature based in the real world that has succeeded.
