A Pair Of Images from THE ROAD TO EL DORADO

Published at:  Jun 12, 1999 1:46:14 AM CDT

Hey there folkerinos! Here's a pair of images from Dreamworks latest animated film, that'll be hitting this fall. Personally, I'm not a fan of this "Disney/Dreamworks" battle sort of thing. Ultimately the animators in both camps are friendly, it's merely the top guys that are in the pissing match. It's really quite silly, because they are both doing wonderful work. Though, it seems Warners has turned the corner in terms of animation. Word has it they might have signed Brad Bird to a long term animation deal (at least a multi picture thingee) which would ensure that THE IRON GIANT won't be his Last Warner Animated film. This is a good thing. Now if only this deal gave him complete autonomy so he could do RAY GUNN or THE SPIRIT (yeah that one, not the Dreamworks Horse flick) without any possible harrassments. Though... Warners has been pretty darn wonderful on the Animation front to Brad and the guys on OSMOSIS JONES... Maybe the disaister of THE QUEST FOR CAMELOT was a good learning experience. 'Trust your Animators and Directors!' Words to live by Warners (and Disney... and Dreamworks... and Fox... and... well everybody) Thanks to Jawad for the pics!

He does, and these look nice, Harry.

    by drath

Yeah, it looks different from Prince of Egypt, maybe even more cartoon-like. Looks like one worth seeing, as long as it doesn't open the same day as "Toy Story 2."

    Road To El Dorado

I still say that this is a very unappealing title. In fact, I think the whole project lacks "appeal."

    Facial Hair

    by johnboy

I notice that both male characters in the 'El Dorado' still have the same type of goatee. Which is interesting because years ago I heard that Jeffrey Katzenburg had forbidden the animators to draw any male characters in Disney films with any kind of facial hair. Then when he left, the animators thumbed their collective noses at him by drawing the male hero in 'Hunchback' --Pheobus-- with a goatee.
Why then, has all the male characters in the Dreamworks animated films --thus far-- had facial hair (exclusing ANTZ, obviously)?
    Just an observation,
    John

This looks to be a very historically acurate film. They even have the part where the Spaniards take the indigenous women as their sex slaves.
Actually, they will probably rationalize it away as a love story (although how those guys know enough Mayan to hit on this girl is beyond me). Looks like some more smoothing over of our messy American history. I wonder how this movie will do in South Mexico . . .

    Eldorado

    by rifferus

Not the best pictures you could get to show, but, hey, since they're not supposed to be out there anyway, who's gonna complain, right?...These characters seem short?...Well, I guess that's heightist elitism for ya...no good unless they're all tall and beefy..LOL..Actually, the dark haired fella's pretty tall there (Supposed to be about 6 feet and lanky) The other guy's shorter, sure, but have you ever been to spain?..They ARE short over there, and the early Mayans were tiny by our standards..LOL..Anyway, enuff on that...The title Road to Eldorado is supposed to be a tribute played to the old Bob Hope/Bing Crosby "road pictures" with the same snappy rapartie and one liners, with the sey gal thrown in the mix to keep everyone on their feet...May not be to everyone's tastes, but it IS funny..lotsa great interaction with the main characters, superb voice performances and some of the best animation you'll see anywhere..And drawing the lines between Disney and Dreamworks and Warners and Fox is almost silly, as many of the animators working for each company at any given time ae from other companies..Wrners people move on to Disney and Dreamworks from project to preject, and vice versa and all around..The artists are all one big happy (well, overworked, but)family o guys and gals who pour their lives for a few years into these little 1 1/2 hours worth of entertainment...Give t a chance, have some fun, and keep the industry going...

I could be wrong, but I thought this was postponed until March of 2000....unless Katz is playing more nasty tricks with release dates.

According to things I have heard, this will not be appropriate for younings. I've actually heard references to "full frontal female nudity." Could be a pip.
