Another Cop Show In The CBS Pipeline!! Eye Eyes Remake Of STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO!!

Published at:  Jul 29, 2008 1:40:11 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

All is cyclical!

Just as ABC’s original “Streets of San Francisco” followed closely the release of “Dirty Harry,” the TV show’s potential CBS remake now comes on the heels of “Zodiac.”

Simon West (“Con Air,” “The General’s Daughter,” “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”) is set to direct the remake’s pilot from a script by “Numb3rs” writer-producer Robert Port and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning” screenwriter Sheldon Turner.

Turner compares the 21st century versions of Steve Keller and Mike Stone (played in the original by Michael Douglas and Karl Malden) to Barack Obama and John McCain, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

"One, like Obama, wants to be active and believes in rehabilitation, while the other one, like McCain, doesn't quite believe in rehabilitation and believes that the enemy is the enemy," Turner said.

"Streets" aspires to join the many other detective shows on the CBS grid, among them "CSI," "CSI Miami," "CSI New York," "NCIS," "Criminal Minds," "Numb3rs," "Cold Case" and "Without A Trace."

    by mcvamp

...and recast Michael Douglas's character as a black guy? Wait, let's be even more progressive and change the Karl Malden character to a cantankerous grizzled old detective who just happens to be gay. And how far are we from having some network greenlight "Bacardi & Cola--The Series"?

Funniest moment rewatching this classic series

    by arcadiands

Is when Malden says to Douglas: "So when you gonna give me the number of your tailor? You keep promising to." and Douglas is standing there in his massively wide lapel sporting tweed sportcoat and a polyester necktie as wide as Route 66.
Im sure they weren't going for a joke, but looking back at that scene from today's perspective, It made me laugh out loud.

Yes "Miami Vice" was a remake of "Streets of SF", with a dash of "Starsky and Hutch." And "CSI: Miami" is a remake of "Hawaii Five-O."Monkeybrains, that was damn good. Suddenly I had a flashback to when I was 5 years old.-----later----m

    by wowsah156

There is no way that a remake would capture the vibe and feel of the area now. San Francisco is a sterile city now full of coffee yuppees and internet moguls. Yuck!! No point in a remake.

    by iamjack'suserid

Are you being ironic or do you REALLY think that not liking Obama is considered racism? With that logic, anybody who doesn't like O.J. or 50 Cent is also racist, right? Considering that rascism will probably work out more for Obama than against him, I really hope you're being ironic.

When was the last time you were in the Mission District in San Francisco? This city is still largely immigrants and you know crap of what you are talking about. I think the term coffee yuppie would be better applied to somewhere in the Northwest and there are the rich people from the silicon valley, but that is not the majority. Try walking around a bit and seeing the people actually in the city.

    by caela

Anyone remember Battlestar Galactica's Richard (Apollo, Tom Zarek) Hatch as Dan Robbins on TSOSF? He did a good job, although the series was dying with Michael Douglas's departure. And it didn't help that Karl Malden HATED Hatch's guts. Wonder if we'll see any cameos in this new series?

STOP. Hollywood, fucking stop, just stop. Seriously, the patience of the great masses is growing fucking thin, each and every one of you might be the person enquiring 'Why don't they eat cake', or in this case, 'why don't they watch a CSI instead' as you are lead to your public guillotining. Now, wait! Let me guess... It will be darker and grittier this time, plus colder and more heartless... Oh, joy... Just like every other lame cop show these days. How many brains at CBS did it take to come up with this crap? Ah, well... At least it's not CSI spin-off number five.

For what it's worth, I don't think you're an Uncle Tom or a racist. I just think you're pretty simple-minded if your considered opinion of Obama is that he is merely a good-looking babbling moron. That sounds like a pretty accurate description of George Bush and, increasingly, John McCain (although I'm not so sure about the good-looking part!) You can disagree with Obama, but he's no idiot.

He can't resist making some political comment. In other words, "One's like the messiah Obama whom I will vote for, and the other's like that asshole McCain..." Anybody remember the Dragnet remake starring Al Bundy from several years back? I was actually a fan of that show until they expanded the cast and made it crappier. In any case, they should only remake this series if it begins with a obnoxious narrator shouting "THAH STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO!! A Quinn-Martin Production!"

    by the milf lover

it was a cop show, this new version is a cop show, and I'm guessing that other than the title and the characters' names, there will be no similarities whatsoever. So why arent they just making some 'new' cop show instead? You know, its not like there arent already over a dozen new cop shows every fucking year anyway..

*sigh* poor kid, DarkHawke - you can't even see what's right in front of you. Come on, get off your high horse. I can assure you that I have as much access to various sources of news and information as you do, so save the lame media-bashing. No one has to spoon-feed me the opinion that Bush has been a disaster for this country - hell, even some Republicans now admit that!
