Merrick here...
The WOLVERINE footage shown at Comic-Con this weekend is now online, in two parts. The clips are embedded below, but the embeds originated from THIS SITE. While this video's camerawork is rather spazy, it's a work of art compared to whoever shot the leaked TR2N material.

Here's a YouTube of the ame, in case the embeds above don't load properly.

looks interesting but the Wolverine backstory is very typical of the goofball 80s/90s of comic books. I hope they radically rewrite it to make some kind of human sense.

  • July 28, 2008, 12:15 p.m. CST

Any chance this "Origins" stuff will be a series?

    by Royston Lodge

Like, after Wolvie they do other characters' origin stories? More about Magneto during WWII would be neat stuff, with appearances by Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, and/or the original Human Torch, and/or Namor (but not Captain America, cuz I'm convinced his uniform is impossible to do without looking silly.). How about a Damage Control movie AND/OR a series of Damage Control shorts that run on the big screen before OR after EVERY Marvel movie that comes out for the next few decades. It could be Marvel's way of apologizing whenever they make a bad comic book movie. Like, after every BAD movie, the next GOOD movie has a Damage Control short that makes fun of the preceding bad movie. I also think Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe deserves big-screen treatment, with Ricky Gervais in the role of Fred Hembeck. (BTW: Liv Schreiber looks freakin' awesome in that trailer. I wasn't looking forward to this one until just now.)

    suckit23 makes a point

    by Royston Lodge

Will every comic book movie be judged against the Dark Knight Standard from now on? Is that fair? After all, Marvel, DC, and others all take different approaches to comic books in the first place. We wouldn't want them all to use the same aesthetic and narrative sensibilities, would we? So why should we expect the same from comic book movies? I have nothing against pure-action-and-popcorn comic book movies, as long as they're done well. I'd be MORE afraid of directors TRYING TOO HARD to replicate the Dark Knight's aura. THOSE are the movies that will fall flat on their faces. Like, if Iron Man II tries to be a Marvel version of The Dark Knight, it'll suck - pure and simple. Heck, the first Hulk movie is already a perfect example of Dark-Knight-esque Marvel movie that doesn't quite work (I still enjoyed it, but I think I'm in the minority).

  • July 28, 2008, 12:23 p.m. CST

    by suckit23

I guess what Im saying is that the Dark Knight was a movie and not just a sequence of events made to please fans. I dont want all comic book character inspired movies to be the same, hell look at Ghostworld. I just would like to see characters be more than one note interpretations.

  • July 28, 2008, 12:24 p.m. CST

  • July 28, 2008, 12:33 p.m. CST

    Suckit23 - I agree with you.

    by Royston Lodge

I wouldn't want all comic book movies to just be a bunch of action sequences strung together either. That would be my definition of a bad action movie. But I also hope that comic book movies that are made intentionally simply as "good" action movies can be allowed to be be judged on that basis, and not judged against Dark Knight every time.

    by Royston Lodge

The Dark Knight is absolutely the gold standard, and anybody who attempts to make a comic book movie will have to be prepared for criticism on that basis. But I wouldn't want directors to give up on making comic book movies just because they know they'll never be able to remake The Dark Knight. On the contrary, maybe The Dark Knight will make writers and directors and producers and (dare I dream?) studios to think a little more about the vision they want to put on the screen before releasing a pieces of shite willy-nilly.

    by Underdogthe3rd

Yes, without mask and without scars.

  • July 28, 2008, 12:48 p.m. CST

    Ehhh, not that interested

    by Slippy

Not a bad piece of footage. This still hasn't sparked my interest in the movie though. Also, having cameos of 20+ mutants isn’t going to do anything but piss off most fans due to those characters having no screen time or having a chance to develop.

  • July 28, 2008, 12:50 p.m. CST

    by skiprat1

I wonder if he'll also be aware he's a comic character...that was Deadpool, right? Or will he be missing that too. Maybe he'll get his scars and mask in this movie. How many characters are in this anyway?! Is it going to be 8 hours long, or Spider-Man 3?

  • July 28, 2008, 12:53 p.m. CST

I'm not sold. Too many mutants may turn it into a mess

    by SpencerTrilby

and even if I like Jackman, I don't think it's more than a cash-cow for his producing company, as well as for Fox. Leave the X-Men alone until Rothman is ran over by Shia, and once Fox is purged then we may have some ballsy X-flicks. That footage is neat, but it needs a ginormous misstep like The Spirit to fuck up a trailer anyways.

  • July 28, 2008, 12:55 p.m. CST

    laughed my ass off

    by kungfuhustler84

This looks really dumb. Not really in a bad way, but this does not look the least bit intelligent. Ryan Reynolds is playing Ryan Reynolds with swords. Creed is actually shorter than Logan. Logan and the Blob have a boxing match where they girly-punch each other for five minutes. They try to show as many characters as they can in the movie, so the footage you see is actually everybody's screen time. the rest is spent with Wolverine walking with explosions behind him. The fact that everybody flipped their wig when gambit showed up is hilarious to me. That character is one of the dumbest, most ill-conceived characters I have ever seen in a comic book. It's like they just did a copy and paste of a few of the other characters and called him new and different. And nice suit there Purple Rain.

  • July 28, 2008, 1:01 p.m. CST

What about an Xavier origin story?

    by kungfuhustler84

Now that would be cool. Take inspiration from the X-Men Legacy arc, where Gambit actually doesn't bother me all that much. Plus it would probably have a lot less explosions or shitty wire stunts. Just imagine...tow hours with just Xavier and Magneto running around Europe, developing as characters and forming the morals they would later hold so high, without cramming in like 50 mutants for no apparent reason other than to get comic nerds excited for 2 seconds. The only time the mutant cameos worked for me was Colossus in the mansion in X2. That was just a perfect X moment for me.

  • July 28, 2008, 1:05 p.m. CST

    that trailer looks good

    by CherryValance

but do we need it to say X-Men Origins? I think we know who Wolverine is.

  • July 28, 2008, 1:07 p.m. CST

    Creed running on all fours

    by kungfuhustler84

cracks me up every time. The human body just doesn't work like that. Even if he's a mutant, even if it's a comic book movie, people running on all fours in movies will ALWAYS look pretty awkward and stupid.

    I'm exicted - & comment to Kungfuhustler

    by VAwitch

Looks promising. Other complaint I have is that Gambit is a good bit younger than any of the Wpn-X group... but if they do justice to his character otherwise, I can overlook that, just as I did in the first 2 XMen films. And I agree Kungfu - if they're gonna delve into Magneto's origins, then likewise, Xavier should be explored - since the two become linked not long past when Magneto starts down his self-chosen path.

    by Geekhaterssuck

I just hope it is good. I'm not a huge X3 hater like some but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in it. I have a sneaking suspicion thought you'll be able to wrap it up like this. Wolvie and Creed meet Stryker, Wolvie and creed work with random mutants, they have falling out. Wolvie escapes goes to Japan falls in love. Creed kills girl Wolvie goes beserk has big fight with random mutants from before then Creed. Boom pow Wolvie flies to Canada. The End.

I'll be OK with Deadpool being all Ryan Reynolds pretty in this movie ONLY if they totally fuck his face up with the cancer at the end of it and then give him his own movie. He just makes me think of Hannibal King and Blade: Trinity from what we've seen here (granted, it was about two seconds...), and no-one wants anyone being reminded of that.

and its not like Dark Knight is perfect, its beatable

    by pipergates

The ending was silly and over dramatic, Dent going after the gangsters was fine but suddenly going after the kids was ridiculous. And the dramatic speeches by Bats and Gordon about self-sacrifice coupled with the pompous concert in the background was too much. Love your work, Nolan, but you do have some glitches. The fight scenes were boring, they were actually better in BB. And fantastic as the joker was played, he sure could have been a bit scarier, more intimidating. And would Dent's arrestees really have been let go just because he fucked up after he arrested them? And Dent's face was stoopid. The whole tone of the film is trying to be as realistic as possible, and then they make a freak who would at least have lost that gaping eye in the fire, more likely be dead from such a severe burn. The way it happened was lousy too, he stumbled?! While on the arm of Bats, no less? Bah! i say. And what was that ballet-like pirouette of the batpod all about?

    This WOLVERINE trailer...

by Mr. Nice Gaius like an eerie mix of "ugh!" and "cool!". I have no real expectations for this as I've grown tired of the X-MEN franchise. But what does this "origins" thing means? Are they actually thinking of doing more of these types of stories? I can't imagine any other X-Men character generating enough interest on their own for a studio to invest in another such enterprise.

    Dark Knight's flaws

    by zacdilone

(SPOILER AHEAD) Here's one--why would Batty have to take the blame for Dent's misdeeds? Just blame it on one of the Joker's henchmen or something. This Batman is too much of a martyr for my taste, and unnecessarily so. Ending was way too melodramatic.

He didn't just get burned because he stumbled. remember Dent falling into all that lighter fluid or fuel or whatever? If even the littlest flame so much as touches the gas, don't you think it would all over? and if you were not intimidated by Joker's complete lack of caring for his fellow man and complete insanity then I don't know what frightens you. Like him breaking the pool stick in half and making those goons fight. Can you imagine being put in that situation? It's pretty fucked up. What about when he's filming the fake Batman and the guy is just whimpering in fear? The guy was a great villain.

knowing the fucking women he loved was saved instead of him and he could do nothing about it!!! It's obvious you're trying REALLY hard to find shit wrong with the movie, but I'm not buying it. You are right. Dark Knight IS NOT perfect. But not for the stupid shallow reasons you state which don't even have any ground anyway since all of them can be explained away by any sensible observant person. It's not perfect, mostly because of an irregular final act which changes in tone and realism from the rest of the movie. While most of it is more of a crime drama, the sonar vision and the action at the end, as well as dent's convenient transformation are reasons why the movie falls short of a perfect 10. NOT because the bat pod does a fucking spin off a wall. by the way, I have seen guys do that on motorcycles before, so it's conceivable.

I don't know who you are trying to convince but I'm not sure anybody believes your hypothesis. Both, especially Xavier have histories throughout the comics of relationships with Women. Magneto has two children. surely you have heard of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch? It's an interesting idea, and I could maybe see where you are getting it from, but not because of anything you have said.

Movie Magneto isn't straight. I just can't see it. He refuses to aid a naked Mystique? That's bullshit, any straight man would be all up in that. I guess since she stopped turning into Charles, he wanted nothing to do with her. And that's not knocking the concept of a gay Magneto; Magneto's a great character whatever way to swing his preference.

    by kungfuhustler84

since the actor portraying him is in fact a homosexual, and it shows a little more than his role as Gandalf. And I don't think he didn't save Mystique because he didn't find her attractive or some bull shit. That logic is totally worthless. It's not like he could just be like, "Oh fuck the battle! I needs to tap that fine ass!" He has especially strong opinions on issues he feels are very important, and he sticks with him. He abandoned her because she was no longer of the same "species" as him and he no longer. Not because he would rather suck a cock or something. I think that through the two's body language in the films, it is evident that the two had a strong relationship, possibly also physical.

They have to call it X-Men Origins: Wolverine

    by Rupee88

because they are scared that there are dumb people out there with money who still don't know that Wolverine is connected to the X-Men movies. I am totally shocked that TDK was not called "Batman: The Dark Knight". These movie executives are very simple thinkers and not sure how they let that one get by them. Of course it will be the 2nd highest grossing film in history, but I'm sure they still think if they forced Nolan to put "Batman" in the title, it would have made even more.

That's ridiculous. Let's ignore whether he's crushing on her or not, and instead go to the truth - she's an ally. The only one he trusts enough to have with him for all three films. No fucking way would someone as clever as Magneto ditch her. Even if he loathes humans, he could use her in two ways. 1) To gain access into the US Governments centre of operations by having her trick them into thinking she's turned against him... or 2) Use the fact that she was cured, against her will, to unite Mutants everywhere.

  • July 28, 2008, 4:59 p.m. CST

    by Rupee88

yes well said...I suppose it is a matter of time and attention and they have a release date they have to make regardless of holes in the plot/script. Most all of these superhero movies are money grabs and they set a release date before they even have a good script. But as long as they keep bringing in the profits, they have no real motive to be much better. TDK was better but it sure doesn't deserve $500 million domestic. But Heath Ledger's untimely death (and fine performance) is probably largely responsible for this.

If they are popular enough, they can have their own series later. That's how it works.

but it kind of reminded me of the Elektra movie in that it seems to be overlooking the story in favor of tossing in as many guest stars and storylines as they can and jamming them together. Elektra is the only Marvel movie I don't own on dvd, so that tells you how low my standards are for buying a dvd. The origin story by itself could be an okay movie, though I could understand them using it as flashbacks with the Weapon X stuff, but why the hell do they need the Japan stuff in there, are they afraid already they won't get a chance to do that in a sequel? The Japan story and the Weapon X story are really too big to jam together. Well I'll keep my fingers crossed that it'll turn out okay.

    by chaddyd

Seriously. Enough with the Citizen Kane-like analogies for The Dark Knight. It was a decent superhero movie. No Iron Man, mind you, but an ok attempt. Period. End of story. Wolverine, however, looks pretty damn good. Anything with Liev Schriber in it will be good. Even the 3 episode CSI arc he did last year. What will make this movie rock the house even more, and is completely obvious, is to bring back the original yellow and brown suit like the action figures your broke ass dad never got you wore.

    by IForgotAbout19

I thought it was excellent. As for this, it looks awesome, but the trailers for the X-Men movies looked awesome too. Marvel's track record recently has improved greatly, but they're still far from off the hook for Tobey McGuire alone. The Dark Knight will hopefully usher in an age of comic book movies being allowed to take themselves seriously, but I don't think we should worry about it being copied; there is only one Batman. I'm looking forward to this, and I have to say hearing the crowd reaction is really powerful. When I saw Dark Knight the crowd lost their shit every time Ledger cracked a "Joke" and it made it that much more enjoyable. Anyways...Hulk?

It was ret-conned, noob. Cripes, there are Alpha Flights from the original run in the 1980s that show him in flashback when they found him after the Weapon X debacle, and he freaks out when he realizes he has claws. <p> It's possible they ret-conned it so that he had them, but they memory wiped him so he didn't know he had them--but it was initially canon that he only got them after Weapon X. <p> Or do you not understand what ret-con means? Probably.

    why not look for perfection?

    by pipergates

I didn't really expect complete and utter perfection from TDK, and it delivered almost all it promised. But shit, even if its just a piece of pop-art, Nolan is attacking the genre like some Hitchcock...almost. Perfection, or semi-perfection, is attainable by directors like them. Its kind of sad to see something coming so close to a true gem and not quite making it. Its still the best superherofilm made so far. Wolverine actually looks like it might compete for the title. It's taking a more Nolan-like adult and dark approach than the previous juvenile Xmen films. Looks pretty spectacular. I dig that motorbike turning on the claws, how the heck did they film that?

  • July 28, 2008, 8:16 p.m. CST

Wolverine's claws were retconned in 1993

    by fiester

Didn't take too much research to find that out. They were Weapon X issue prior to that date, after which they were ret-conned to be bone for some reason (the reason being, apparently, they wanted to have Magneto strip his skeleton of the adamantine--but they still wanted to have Wolverine and how could they have a Wolverine without claws? So it was ret-conned.). So, yeah, I do have the comics to prove it. Basically any Wolverine related book prior to 1993.

OMG! COMICS DO RETCONS NOW?! Next you'll tell me the killer of Batman's parents was never originally caught! THE DARK KNIGHT Made All Other Superhero Movies Irrelevant

    by LaserPants

It did, it really did. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still like the other good superhero movies (Batman Begins (which is really a part of the same awesome that is TDK), Spider-Man 1 & 2, X-Men 1 & 2, Iron Man, Blade 1 & 2, and to a lesser degree The Incredible Hulk), but TDK just rolled on up and made them all seem kinda silly by comparison. It blew the roof off the sucka. BLEW THE ROOF OFF THE SUCKA!!!

I don't think my opinion will change unless something else better comes along to usurp it (which is unlikely). I don't think I'll be quite as obsessed with it as I am now, of course, but I'm sure it will top my list. Batman Begins topped my list of superhero movies for the past 3 years, and this was MUCH better than that, so... yeah. I'm not fickle, I'm just an obsessive nut-case about stuff I love.

would be the stuff from Frank Miller's run in the 80s. You know the arc where the cover is him and a huge pile of ninjas? I know Frank is getting a lot of his stuff made lately but that arc is really some of the best Wolvie stuff ever, and it's almost entirely set in Japan.

    by IndustryKiller!

It looks just like every other study in mediocrity that is the pre Iron Man Marvel franchises. And moreover it looks like a big convoluted hodgepodge of fanboy pleasing. And for god sake Fox, don;t feed the fucking fanboys. What is a fanboy really than someone who dedicates their whole life to loving something without even gaining the most basic understanding of it. Hence the love for Jackmans off base Wolverine. Anyone who loves the character knows that jackmans portrayal is at best surface level and at worst just a bad Cyclops wannabe.

We've got a WOLVERINE movie. We've got something really cool to look forward to, with 'ol Hugh in the role, who's REALLY cool, and it looks like they're really using more characters (Gambit, Emma Frost, Blob, Deadpool, etc.). Let's party! Wolverine's back!

To really savor it, it requires more than just a two hour movie. Series likes HEROES and SMALLVILLE proove that there's a viable TV future for XMEN. Character development is always hard when you have to squeeze things into a two hour film. A 13 to 20 episode series (how's a 20-hour story versus a 2 hour one sound?) would do better, plus you get to see more action and plot and time with characters every week. Can anyone get Joss Whedon for that?

WOLVERINE - Of This You Can Be Sure (IndustryKiller1)

    by Spymunk

    1) Wolverine won't kill, except MAYBE the big-bad-guy at the end, and even then, it won't be with a stabbing with claws. 2) Wolverine will have a love interest and will basically abandon his loner persona to pursue this love interest, only to have the love interest die tragically so that he can walk out into the Alasakn wilderness while lonesome music plays. 3) Wolverine will have one (ONE!) 'berserker rage' and a woman will pull him out of it, or he might have one as a child and we'll get a crane shot of him standing over the 'injured, but could pass for dead' bodies of bullies and tormentors. 4) Wolverine will square off against a character who will show off all kinds of 'badass' mutant powers only to get punched in the face and knocked out, basically like General Grievous from REVENGE OF THE SITH - there won't be ANY kind of fight like you saw in X2 with a lot of clawing/scraping/blood/etc. 5) #4 is true because #5 - you'll spend the whole movie anticipating a Logan/Sabertooth fight, and when it actually happens Logan and Sabertooth will be 'seperated by circumstance' before a definitive conclusion will be offered, thus affording the events to come in future movies. 6) Logan as a child will take up approximately 1/5th of the runtime, followed by a caption that reads 22 YEARS LATER or something like that - in other words, there will be a VERY brief actual 'origin' and we'll be thrown right into Weapon X times, thereby eliminating most of the elements that made the ORIGINS comic successful. We won't get a lot of focus on Wolverine's actual origin, and they'll jump into boring Weapon-X stuff where "Everyone is part of the CONSPRIACY!" Fanboys _LOVE_ conspiracies ... right? Just as BIONIC WOMAN! You hit the nail on the head exactly right - NEVER feed the fanboys.

No guys seriously, someone fucking explain how this looks good

    by IndustryKiller!

And don't say it looks "bad ass" because it doesn't. it looks just like the other fucking X-Men movies, of which even the first two are vastly overrated. Secondly what could the justification for all these mutants be except blantant fan pleasing not seen since Lucas brought back Boba Fett in Episode II. And we all know what happened there. Why the fuck would Gambit run into Wolverine?? And just the look of Deadpool, White Queen (who doesn't have an ounce of majesty to her) and Blob already make me cringe with their brand new Hollywood makeovers. And man I could do without a talented guy like Liev Schreiber mugging and growling for the camera like a maniac for a paycheck. Then there's Jackmans Wolverine, which still no one has made a solid argument in defense of. if you think that scenes like X2's "berserker" scene encapsulate the character you're dead wrong. Read a comic book. his berserker isn;t supposed to be a really angry guy running around but more like an uncaged rabid animal tearing through everything. it's not calculating in the least, it's completely unhinged. Wolverine also has a quiet nobility and sadness to him that Jackman misses completely. Jackman is gruff, but it takes a lot more than that to capture Wolverine. Think Eastwood from The Outlaw Josie Wales and you're on the mark. i guess the idiot public likes everything to be "likable" though.

you want a defense for jackman's wolverine? okay, heres the thing.. the wolverine from the 70's comic is different then the direction they took him in the 80's... which is also a bit different from how they portrayed him in the 90's (and the 2000's and so on)<br><br>most comic book characters grow and change throughout their 40 or so years since being created. <br><br>you've picked the characterization of wolverine that you like the best, and claimed that jackman got it all doesnt that sound a little 'fanboy-esque' of you? (since you were just complaining about catering to the fanboys)<br><br>plus, nobody wants to admit this, but what works in comics does not translate 100% to screen (even with a comic basically being a story board) you still need to tweak things to bring the story to a new medium. (this is why alan moore hates his comic being made into movies.. he wrote comics, not storyboards for movies..that being said, i wish he would just chill out..but i digress) <br><br>its like 'the dark knight' which most of us can agree is an instant classic, but really, batman has been tweaked and changed a bit to fit into the medium of film. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

    by IndustryKiller!

So anything substantive about what Jackman does that you care to touch on or just more vague generalities? Yeah characters change over time, but there are things about them that remain constant or SHOULD remain constant. Just because someone writes them or plays them a certain way doesn't mean that way is valid simply because it exists. there are TONS of bad portrayals and versions of every comic book character. i'm simply calling one out. i explained in plain terms some of the things I don't like about the character. There are reasons people fell in love with the character and I think jackman misses a lot of them. Plus he never disappears into the character. He's all actorly glower and never truly sells the inner struggle. you can tell in really life he's actually a nice guy working hard at playing tough.

    Wolverine got me into comix

    by Prague23

One of the first 20 or so I ever bought was part 1 of the Frank Miller miniseries. An original. Then picked up the rest of em. Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman and Allen Moore rocked my 15-year old frakin world. And they're all making films of the stuff now. Even if it's different than the comix, I celebrate being able to at least get to see these works on screen.<p>My ticket might as well already be bought for Wolverine. Watchmen is going to be amazing anyway you look at it. It's not going to be the comic because of what it'll have to leave out. And that's going to be the major criticism, just folks whining about how green the grass is on the cutting room floor, or in the screen writer's recycle bin. <p>Yet, I haven't heard any great criticism about Dark Knight 'fuckin' with the origin of the Joker aspect. If you're just jumping on the boxoffice busting bandwagon in a Star Wars 'transcending criticism' way, and if you'll start complaining about Watchmen, for example, keep in mind how many liberties Nolan is taking with Batman and wonder with me about what's in between the praise. Empty space needing to be filled. <p>This is directed to you Moriarty, if you're not too busy.

    by ArcadianDS

excellent post. One that will be universally ignored. The parents of Batman were killed by an anonymous generic Thug #7 and Batman beat him up inside the boxcar of a train as his way of having his vengeance. As I recall, he may have actually killed Generic Thug #7, and that was something of a controversy when the Batman comics were first published.<p> anyway, every single Batman movie to date has redrafted the story and how all the pieces fall into place. Harvey Dent became two face when he was on the witness stand (cuz district attorneys take the stand all the time, amirite?) Generic Thug #24 threw a cup full of caustic acid across the court room (it was a lead cup, I suppose?). Batman was in the court room (because Batman works as a legal aide during the day?) and he leaped out to block the acid with his awesome palm, but only deflected half of it. Thus was born Two Face, and his bitterness at Batman for failing to protect his entire melon from Generic Thug #23's Nissan Cup-O-Acid (with real vegetables).<p> The moral of the story is: Batman's original storyline was stupid, uninspired, and very dumb. Im all for rewriting out the dumb in order to make the story something worth investing time in.

    The Dark Knight's "flaws"

    by ChocolateJesus

Whatever flaws the movie had were minimal in contrast with its strengths, which is more than I can say for any other super hero movie. Anyone who likes comic book movies and is complaining about The Dark Knight has no credibility whatsoever. And reinterpretation of a character is something any comic book fan should be totally fine with, considering its such a standard of the comic book world. Also, this Wolverine thing looks like it could be cool. Still Hugh Jackman, though, so...y'know...

    the comic book 'look'

    by oisin5199

I think people get way too obsessed over how well a film translates the comic book 'look.' Tyler Mane's Sabretooth looked more like the comic book, but he was a shit character, badly acted, in an otherwise decent film. I love that Sabretooth is being played by a real actor with great chops (no pun intended) who matches Wolverine physically and has the potential to enrich Logan's backstory. You can see how these two might be buddies at one time. I'd rather have a well-written character with a different onscreen translation, than one that 'looks' like the comic but is flat and uninteresting. I also like that the look and tone of this trailer is very different from the X-Men films - a lot less shiny and technological, much more in line with the various Wolverine solo series. I'm already predicting this film will be worlds better than X-Men3, though that's not really a high bar.

    by soup74

i wasnt calling you wrong or anything, i think you're an intelligent movie goer who asked for a reason why someone might like jackman as wolverine, and i gave one. lets go over wolverines main points in the comic and the movies: <br><br>hes got a healing factor- check<br>hes got adamantium lined bones and claws- check<br>hes a loner- check (and i know you're going to say they didnt portay him as 'loner' enough, but stay with me, im building to a point)<br>hes got a mysterous past- check<br>hes in love with jean gray- check.<br>hes older than he seems- check<br>he smokes cigars- check<br>hes prone to using the word, bub- check<br>he was part of a goverment project, he later joined the x-men- check<br>etc.. i could go on, there are more major points to his character that are still there.<br><br>so what im saying is that after you make the major design of the character, who IS wolverine, then the rest of the subtleties are up to the writer. <br><br>len wein, chris claremont, brian singer, etc, all wrote wolverine a little different (i mean, christ how many different origins did they give him before they finally settled on one?) <br><br>so if in the comic the berzerker rage is like a feral animal, and in the movie the berzerker rage is getting really pissed and killing a bunch of baddies, does it really matter if its slightly different? shouldnt it just be cool that they added a major point (a berzerker rage) or would you rather worry about the fact that they way they portrayed it was different than the way you portrayed it in your head? by doing it their way doesnt mean they dont 'get' the character, they just did what they figured was best for 'cinema' and not 'comics.'

i never really answered your question.. what is there to like about jackman's wolverine? well its been a while since ive seen all three x movies, but he played up the smart ass pretty well, i actually laughed at the " you're a dick" line in the first one. whenever there was a fight, hugh was good at showing that wolverine is pissed and ready for action, without any fear. the only time he shows too much concern for violence is when someone he cares about could get hurt. jackman was very profeciant at making that come across.

Check out Morph if you want a wise ass. If he's an outright wise ass it takes away from the inate sense of sadness that he's always carrying with him, it also robs him of his cool mystique. It is what it is. Still looks better than X3!

    by Joey_Redballs

It still looks better than X3's army of generic, jumping mutants with no particular powers other than to jump super high and rush the enemy. I'm a little leary of Cotton Weary playing Sabretooth. Yes, he's a better actor than Tyler Mane. But it's an enormous continuity error and not just storywise. I'm all for a different look for Sabretooth, but he just lost 8 inches in height along with 100lbs and his black eyeballs. Tyler Mane is 5 inches taller than Liev, plus they had him wear boots that made him even taller. Is Liev going to get his memory erased along with blackened eyes and some kind of Super Shredder formula to make him bigger at the end of the movie? And I thought Wolverine lost his memory during the ravaging of his body when the hot adamantium was poured over his skeleton? Yet, he's got the metal claws in a scene fighting Sabretooth? Is that also in the early 90's or the present? I'm just going to watch this movie for what it is, and try and enjoy some ooh's and ahh's for those moments here and there that they do get right. I'm interested to see Wolverine's bone claws in higher resolution. Check out Cotton Weary as Sabretooth here:

The Walking Dead as a premium cable tv series?

    by Joey_Redballs

That's what I want to see! Rated R to NC-17 equivalent hour-an-episode series of The Walking Dead on HBO or Showtime. They could make and release episodes faster than Kirkman can get issues released so the series would be caught up with the comic book by issue #100. You could easily combine 4 or 5 issues into an hour long episode with little or no condensing. Who's with me? Nevermind. I'm going to bed.
