PIXAR's UP, not to be confused with Russ Meyer's UP, Teaser Trailer Is... UP!!!

Published at:  Jul 27, 2008 12:41:48 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... I really have no clue about UP - I know that one of our non-Quint AICN agents sat with the director of this... I believe it was Mr Beaks - but I could be confused, because I'm getting old. I really am. But not as old as the guy on the front porch you'll be seeing shortly. Unless you wait to see it when we repost with an Apple HD version - which I have to believe is coming shortly. Here ya go - the latest PIXAR teaser...

the best thing about WallE was the Presto short

    by the milf lover

WallE looked absolutely incredible but I just didnt get into the story for some reason, it felt to me that it could have easily been 30 minutes shorter and remain about the same. Plus they totally should've used real people for the Axiom passengers like they did with Fred Willard as the president and the peoiplke getting massages from robots in the Buy&Large ads; seeing everything done so insanely real and then having these cartoony humans broke the illusion for me. As for this ballon-house thing.. lame so far...

Pixar is at the top of its game....why do you say dumb shit like that just because you hate their movies, you sure as hell talk alot about a studio you cant seem to stand. But saying pixar is done is just seemed to come from nowhere, i truly cannot put the pieces together that would make you say that, because they've had success after success. So what could be stuck up your ass so deep that you'd be bitter enough to critize a company that's stands out and actually delivers prime storytelling.

they should have had fred willard a cartoon. pixar is a animation studio, I dont know what they were thinking. Although they did do that transition thing from real to cartoon with the portraits oof the captains... anybody catch that? they turned more and more animated. maybe they tried to say the fatter humans got, the less real? who knows.

Pixar Make A Movie About A Talking Paperclip

    by cellardweller

And it would kick ass! These gods of CG animation can do no wrong (at least so far.) Wall-E was sheer poetry. My only quibble was the live action Fred Willard juxtaposed with CG rendered humans. Kind of takes you out of the movie in those brief moments. Other than that...near perpection. Like getting a blumpkin while eating a hot fudge sundae...

    by obscura

... its about an elderly couple who've lived their whole lives together, always dreaming of exploring the world in a hot air balloon, but the closest they've ever got is the husband selling baloons to kids. one day he decides they should get out of the house more, so they go for a picnic... as they're walking up a hill she collapses and dies. eventually, the lonely old man decides he needs to do something to remember his wife, so he ties a thousand ballons to his house and sets sail for south america; where she always wanted to live. If you search through the archive of aicn you'll find this plot outline somewhere, written much better than i can do. needless to say, it'll be pixars most emotional, and most grown up film to date.

    Story per AICN article

    by alientoast

I think the above poster got it wrong. Basically the film starts when the old guy is a young guy. He meets some young girl. They fall in love eventually. The big dream is to goto South America one day. So they save up, but then life keeps getting in the way so they never go. The day he finally buys two tickets, he figures he will surprise her at a picnic. However, she dies at the picnic so his dream of going there kinda dies too. Some boyscout trying to get his senior help merit badge decides to help the old guy out, not realizing that the old guy still wants to goto South America. Eventually they end up rigging some balloon deal which gets them there and starts their adventure. etc etc.

Crazy that Pixar keeps making movies for many many people instead of just for you. My 3 year old loves balloons more than anything else and he will adore this film and I will as well because,at the very least, it will bring him a lot of happiness. But you cannot be happy, now can you? You must bring everything down to your sullen muck pit. Well, you stay there in your sullen muck put while the rest of us enjoy going UP!

  • cos Alientoast told it better than me. remember though this isnt gonna be some boring story of drifting accross the equator in a house. the one piece of concept art we've seen has fighter planes in it. Its a pixar movie! they'll get the tone perfect, but it will also have the potential to reach a much wider and audience than any pixar movie before.

If Pixar is making movies for themselves, then they have really good taste. More filmmakers should make movies for themselves and more studios should be brave enough to release those films rather than making them to cater to what they think people will like. I'll take a lifetime of Pixar films made by and for the folks at Pixar over a single mass market tested "Epic Movie".

Alientoast's early post on the plot of the film is correct, and Ed Asner is the voice of the old man (Carl I think). My friend works over at PIXAR and confirmed the plot, he also said the films world has a sort of 1940's era Rocketeer feel, but animated. Even some film/newsreel type footage and stuff in it. Should be cool. -ED
