Pics of a T-600 as well as TERMINATOR: SALVATION footage description by Quint from Comic-Con!

Published at: July 26, 2008, 10:17 p.m. CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As crazy and stressful as it was to get into yesterday’s WATCHMEN panel, that was a walk in the park compared to the clusterfuck of clueless security people who did their damndest to let any of the press into the panel, despite being escorted by… you know… the studios who are actually renting the space to show the panel.

Anyway, McG comes out to a stage already dominated by the above T-600 and paraded out names to appease the audience. He talked about speaking with James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the writer is Jonathan Nolan who co-wrote THE DARK KNIGHT. Then he said Stan Winston’s designs are all over the movie. In essence… “Please like it and don’t boo me.”

He addressed the rating, and said there are only two people who would want the film to be PG-13 and they told him to make the picture and if it’s R-rated, it’s R-rated. There might be some wiggle room there. Then he called Christian Bale’s cell… straight to voicemail and held it up, saying that he made a promise to Bale that if we didn’t cheer loud enough he wasn’t going to show any footage, so everybody screamed for Bale’s voicemail and the footage rolled. I’m going to run it like I ran my Wolf Man footage coverage… Here’s my typed notes, with the screen completely black as the footage rolled: Helicopter, bale lying on the ground. How many survivors are there? One. Dead terminator, light landscape, sunset. Stepping over terminator… daylight… come with me if you want to live from kyle reece to worthington… primative t800 machine gun, steps on skull - some road stuff looks like road warrior tow truck chase kyle rreeceterminator close up. If you saved us once in another future, you can save us in this one… conner screaming you son of a bitch as a t-800 hand comes into frame, dragging across his face as he screams. Here’s a more detailed description: The footage played very light… in that the aesthetic isn’t dark like in the flashbacks. This takes place a full 10 years before what we glimpse in T1 and T2 and the machines are in their early stages. The first shot was a high shot, looking down at a crashed chopper, with Bale lying on the ground. He sits up, sees the T-600 crushed under the chopper (we later see him aim his gun down, like the still that was released, and put a single bullet in the head as the lights go out in its eyes) and try to raise someone on a CB. He gets someone and is asked “How many survivors?” “One,” he responds. “Repeat?” Then he says it sharper, louder: “One!” He steps over a dead endoskeleton and walks into the deserty sunset. We’re introduced to Worthington, who seems like a good guy, but there’s a later scene with him chained up and Bale looking him in the eye saying “You killed my father, you tried to kill my mother and you’re not going to kill me.” Maybe I’m not up on what’s current with the flick, but is Worthington a terminator? Worthington sees a human shape in what looks like a broken down garden and calls out. It, of course, is a T-600 and shoots at him with machine guns attached underneath its arms. Worthington is tackled before he’s hit and Anton Yelchin sits up and says, “Come with me if you want to live,” with a smile. By the way, there was a couple of interesting glimpses: One, a shadowed T-600 overlooking a pen filled with humans, like a concentration camp and the other was a closer look at a T-600 with his face looking skull-like... not metal endo-skeleton skull, but human skull... kinda like the original Giger alien. Maybe that was a trick of the light, but something was different... maybe it was just some of the "fake rubbery skin" that the early Terminators are supposed to have that I'm mistaking for a skull. Then we got a lot of Road Warrior-ish chase scenes through a desert landscape, broken down cars… being chased by something we don’t see. The truck the humans use is a reinforced tow truck. There’s a voice-over from, I assume, Bryce Dallas Howard, where she says “If you saved us once in another future you can save us in this one.” One of the last shots was John Conner pinned to the ground, a close up as he screams out “YOU SON OF A BITCH!” and a Terminator hand comes into frame, looking like it’s going to touch his cheek. They cut to profile as it drags down his face as he screams. Is this the origin of the scar? That’s pretty much the footage… For the panel, McG is joined by Common, Bryce Dallas Howard, Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington.

Here’s a few tidbits from the panel: - Takes place 10 years before the t-800 model, seeing the state of the war before what we’ve seen in the T2 future war sequence. - “We’re making a gritty and real terminator. It’s not for pansies. We’re making the terminator, you know?” Sam Worthington

- Skynet robots we will see are called Harvesters, transporters, hydrobots. Supposedly designed like Scott’s and Cameron’s Aliens universe. - Bryce Dallas Howard had an analogy to respond to a question about how they’re going to incorporate the ability to change your fate. Bryce held up a plastic cup and said if the cup is you and the table is fate, the assumption is if you drop the cup it will hit the table/fate. She dropped the cup and grabbed it with her other hand, saying that fate can be changed based on action.

- “I’m trying to protect the mythology of the first two movies. I wouldn’t have signed on if they hadn’t. I love Jim’s films and Jim himself.” – Sam Worthington - Will Schwarzenegger be back? McG dances around it, saying that the T-800 definitely is part of the mythology, but won’t say any more. - Sci-Fi is over, according to McG because we’re living it. Spell-checking blackberrys, sheep cloning, etc. He’s making this a war movie. - They’re approaching it like Nolan approached BATMAN BEGINS. - Claims the ending on AICN was deliberate manipulation by the studio. Get Kyle Reese to the point where Linda Hamilton would sleep with him. Yelchin studied the first movie and dissected the character in order to keep it consistent. - T-600 is the robot on the stage. - Do we get to see what Skynet looks like? Yep. Studied Chernobyl for post-apocalyptic world. - An Asian dude named Tim came up to the mic and asked a question using an Arnold voice. McG: “That was awesome. And if you’re Asian, that was fuckin’ unbelievable. Bring him up!” And the dude took the stage alongside another pair that came to the mic dressed up. One as Sarah Connor from T2 and the other as the T-1000 with bullet hits on him. For that dude’s question he held up a photo of Eddie Furlong and asked the panel: “Have you seen this boy?”

- Film will be dedicated to Stan Winston. - John Rosengrant was brought up, from Stan Winston Studios to talk about the machinery. McG’s analogy was the first Mac you bought was huge and had 2 megs of memory and today Macbook Air can control the world. The T-600s are bulky, huge, weathered… 7 feet tall. Soviet tank is the inspiration. - Moon’s a pilot, Sam is Marcus and Moon takes Sam to an outpost led by John Connor. Moon and Sam are romantic interests. - Bryce is Kate Connor. “What attracted you to this picture other than you get to make out with Bale?”- McG - Common: “I’m just glad to be here, honestly. Every time I see the trailer and the clips I’m like, ‘I’m in the Terminator! I can’t believe it!’ We rollin’, man. ” – Common And that was the panel. I had to run off and do an interview at the very end, but there’s some good stuff in there. All in all… I need to see more. I like that they’re changing the aesthetic and perhaps building towards the future world we see in the original films and Bale was great, but I want to see a little bit more… maybe a full scene… to see how it works dramatically. Be back soon with more! -Quint quint@aintitcool.com

It was all very tacky in costume design, set design, product placement. The sheen of T2 was gone. Everything was shot during boring mid-day sun. Nick Stahl as John Conner looked ridiculous. The new terminator was a downgrade. I admit to having a chip on my shoulder about the ending originally, but it does work, and is quite ballsy. There was just no point to watching T3 for me. T2 did it all better. I actually left the theater angry, just as I did with Jurassic Park 3, yet another film that was giving fans what they wanted, but in a sub-par manner. But hey, this is a good time for you to tell me what you enjoyed. I'm up for that.

Oh and saying the Ending leak was the studio is a outright lie

    by IndustryKiller!

The studio leaks things to throw people off, not to make everyone think the film is going to be total shit. They don't leak things that will outright alienate fans and cause bad buzz, which anyone with a fucking brain would be able to know given that rumor. McG tried to lie once about that ending and now he's just doing it again, trying to save face. Now the ending very well may have changed by now due to all our vitriol but I doubt it was leaked by the studio to throw us off, they wouldnt dare risk the backlash. besides some sites were reporting that they had heard that rumor long before it was actually leaked.

  • July 26, 2008, 11:23 p.m. CST

    McG's real name...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Joseph Nichol. What's wrong with using his own name now? If he feels he's created a "brand" under McG and is reluctant to use his real name now, then I would advise he start transitioning by putting "McG" in the middle: Joseph "McG" Nichol. (By the way, his middle name is, in fact, McGinty -- that's where the McG nickname comes from.)

I'm ribbing ya. Tangerine Dream were always a bit too busy for my tastes, but Vangelis holds up. John Carpenter is a fine composer, that uses all the wrong tools. Fiedel's synth in the Terminator universe just clicks, and his other work gives a broad landscape. But I draw the line at Zimmer. ;D

... Surprised me. Junk pop fun. Slick and goofy. Charlie's Angels Full Throttle? I... I was dumbfounded. It wasn't even really a movie. by Smithaz1981

The whole concept and story behind this was James Cameron's idea, and now, well with T3 (Which I will never ever see, along with any future Terminator flick) they've ruined the vision, just so a production company can stay alive and some thief and stay rich, these people should be shot, what the hell is Christian Bale doing signing up for this film. I wonder how much their paying his ass. Kill they dreamer eh Dr. Shannon

  • July 26, 2008, 11:38 p.m. CST

BTW, I doubt the studio leaked that ending.

    by Cotton McKnight

Oddly enough, I don't really care as much about how they "honor" the first one than with how they make improvements over the third. Sets, designs, all that other stuff- make it look like Cameron. But the story has to be consistent with the third, at least for me to like it. It's a better story than the second. The second was groundbreaking, fun, all that stuff. But T3 actually advanced the plot and gave meaning to the universe we are stepping into.

And T2 is the best action movie of the last 20 yrs

    by Rupee88

And of course you could call it a sci-fi film to some degree as well..labels are not necessary but it is still amazingly entertaining.

    All this Bale love....

    by StarskyandHushky

..I actually think he is the weakest link in TDK. As Bruce he just does his 'yuppie playboy' thing that he does in most of the movies, and as Batman he just grunts in a silly deep voice. I loved TDK, but only because its not about Bale's Batman.

  • July 27, 2008, 12:35 a.m. CST

    T3 is better than T1

    by Rupee88

I'd rather watch T3 than T1 anyday. T1 was better when it was released, but hasn't held up. T3 has some good action, a hot terminatrix, and is fun and harmless.

dude...to me T2 is better than the original Star Wars trilogy

    by Seth Brundle

cause i think that sci-fi is cooler when is in our present time and era and you come up with something amazing that fits well in the "normal" world, it has less merit when you have the license to create a whole universe to suit your story and creations like in LOTR and Star Wars..... but thats me....and yeah i know im the only one who thinks that

    by Skraggo

Fuck... someone actually says "Come with me if you want to live" in this thing???? What the hell, man? Are we supposed to clap and giggle like Chris Griffin when we hear that phrase in a Terminator movie? And what is this shit about John Connor confronting some character about killing his father and trying to kill his mother? Unless he's maybe somehow talking to Skynet itself, that doesn't make any goddamn sense at all.

Fate can be changed by action? Bullshit.

    by veebeeyes

If Skynet hadn't acted in order to prevent the birth of John Connor, John Connor never would have led the resistance. Furthermore, the information leading to the creation of Skynet and the Terminators CAME FROM THE TERMINATOR. In other words, in order for robots to take over in the future, a robot had to first travel back in time from the future so that the robots could be created. What does this all mean? It means that in the world of The Terminator, fate rules EVERYTHING. No one in 1984 had ANY say in what they did, because events HAD to unfold in such a way as to lead to the EXACT future from which Kyle Reese and The Terminator came. Those are the rules for the Terminator universe, established in the first fucking movie. You suddenly change everything and say "there's no fate but what we make", without providing a plausible explanation for how that can be, and you are simply retroactively fucking up the first movie. Fuck that, and fuck anyone who tries to say that free will has any place in the world of The Terminator.

    by veebeeyes

Why can't you keep sending people back until you get it right? Because, as implied by the first movie, you can NEVER get it right. It's outright impossible. Skynet tried it, and they ensured the exact same future that they were hoping to avoid. What has happened has happened. What is is. In the world of The Terminator, that is how the universe works. If you go back in time to change ANYTHING, you will fail. The most you will accomplish is realizing that your actions in the past are EXACTLY how things have always been. There was NEVER a version of time in which John Connor was humanity's saviour WITHOUT having been influenced in his youth by Terminators. That is how John Connor came to be, that is how John Connor came to be a great military leader, and NOTHING can be changed.

Salvation looks fine, let's hope it's not a hack job that plagues the whole planned trilogy. It's not just living up to the previous ones, but it has to lead to some seriously wicked stuff in part 5 and 6. I have hope, but the constant name-dropping (Jonathan Nolan! Christian Bale! Lemmy!) is a bit of a concern, as if they were trying too hard.

    T2

    by VegasRon

It's not like I hate T2 or anything. I just think it's insanely overrated. I didn't even form this opinion until my ex-GF and I bought the 10th anniversary SE dvd a few years ago. After watching it we were amazed that this was the same flick we'd idolized as teenagers. The ending scene with Arnie lowering himself into the molten metal with a thumbs up sign got groans from both of us. This movie just doesn't hold up once you become an adult and actually critique it.<p> Yes, the direction was great, the music rocks, the FX are groundbreaking and still hold up very well to this day. But the acting, spearheaded by the dreadful Furlong, is pretty bad. Linda Hamilton is NOT a good actress when she has to actually emote. But when she gets all RIGHTEOUS ANGER I just rolled my eyes. The weaknesses of both of these actors is also compounded by some pretty hokey dialogue.

    T3 isn't really a Terminator flick

    by Xiphos_2

It is however a fairly decent chase flick with some good practical car stunts. The first Terminator is by far the best one. Now argue amongst yourselves.

  • July 27, 2008, 4:04 a.m. CST

I really think it boils down

    by VegasRon

to the endings. T1's "a storm is coming" to this day still gives me chills. T3's apocalypse was pretty damn bold and I'm sure pissed some suits off. T2's ending? Arnie and a thumbs up. lulz.

but it is still the best of the three...and go back and find the talkback right after T3 was released...it was incredibly positive. You guys have changed your mind over the years...just revisionist history. T1 is just forgettable for the most part even though I saw it on TV recently. It had a cool premise, but not much beyond that. And the stop-motion Terminator looked retarded.

    by ThaAtrain

JimBob. No you couldnt just go back to the wild west and kill a Connor ancestor. As Reese states in the interrogation room: Skynet didnt have COnnor's entire history, only knowing his mother's name and the city she resided. Thats why Arnie was "just being systematic" when killing the first 2 Sarah COnnors.

  • July 27, 2008, 5:10 a.m. CST

One thing I have a problem with...

    by chuffsterUK

...and always have. If Skynet was able to send more advanced Terminators back through time, why not send them back to kill Connor during the war?(ignoring of course, the fact that he was eventually killed by an `Arnie"bot!) Why wouldn't there be advanced models instead of T-600s walking round in t4,for example?

  • July 27, 2008, 7:41 a.m. CST

    T1>T3>T2

    by LaserPants

Why? Heres a few reasons why:<br><br> 1) Terminator as Robodaddy -- for some insane reason, Cameron thought it was a good idea to turn the Terminator into an ersatz father figure. AWFUL.<br><br> 2) Ludicrously overwrought and unintentionally hilarious sense of gravitas as if it were written by a 10 year old with slim to no understanding of how actual adults think, talk, and act.<br><br> 3) Linda Hamiliton's hammy butch lesbo paramilitary mom act that isn't remotely believable. Mostly because she couldn't act her way out of a paper-bag.<br><br> 4) Whiny bitch ass teenager John Connor instead of the bad ass military leader we'll FINALLY get to see in T4. I mean, I HATED John Connor. I kept hoping Early 90s CGI Man would capture him and torture him to death.<br><br> 5) Ending stolen right from Old Yeller. Seriously! Its practically the exact same ending. Cringe-inducing.<br><br> 6) Early 90s CG Man forgetting he has the ability to mimic anybody's appearance and voice. This happens at the end where he tortures Sarah Connor in an attempt to force her to call for her son -- a trick he pulls himself not 30 seconds later. (And yeah, I've heard the defense that his systems were malfunctioning, and that WOULD be a good defense if it was in the actual fucking movie. Cameron just straight up forgot. He must have written the script in a weekend whilst high on painkillers.)<br><br> 7) Guns N' Roses soundtrack. The very definition of uncool.<br><br> Thats just offa the top of my head. So just to get it straight:<br><br> T1 = All time classic! A great and unique story, one of the ages.<br><br> T2 = Mind-numbingly awful piece of shit for affluent suburban kids with deep seated father issues.<br><br> T3 = Campy fun with cool action sequences, an awesome grindhouse-y bathroom fight scene, and a darker ending more in keeping with the original intention of T1. <br><br> Oh, and for the love of god, please do stop saying I thought T3 was the best movie of the bunch. I have NEVER said this. I said that T1 is the best of the bunch, the only classic of the bunch, the only one that deserves all the praise it gets.

    Naive?

    by LaserPants

Huh? Thats doesn't even make any sense. Explain that. Seriously, do tell. If anything, what I wrote was overtly cynical, specifically bashing the naivete of T2 with its cloying, wide-eyed insistence that we accept Terminator as Robodaddy and a shoe-horned-in happy (or, slap-happy) ending. Besides, pretty hard to be both cynical and naive seeing as how they are diametrically opposed concepts. Did you just say naive because it sounds good or something?<br><br> But yeah, either way, regardless of the disagreement on the relative merits or lack thereof in T2, I think this T4 thing sounds really pretty fuckin' cool. And it was written by Nolan? One half of the brilliant team who brought us this years BEST movie? THE DARK KNIGHT! The movie that somehow managed to make a bad-ass Pg-13 movie? Fuckin' A! Right On!!! Are you just throwing shit out at random? <br><br> Oh, also, I was in college when T2: OLD YELLER came out in the theatre, saw it with my girlfriend at the time, and HATED IT. So, at that point in my life, I was pretty much over cool kids vs. uncool kids (I considered myself a punk rocker in high school and was in a band and all that bullshit, so, even when I was knee deep in cornball adolescent social politics, technically, I was one of the cool kids, but you know, one of those "bad" ones who hated church and did drugs and got laid, oh, and also had straight As) at that point. I'm assuming you were, what, 10 when you saw T2? That would explain your nostalgia for the craptacular T2. Trust me, I understand, I liked all kinds of stupid shit when I was 10 too. Then I grew up. Imagine that!<br><br> Seriously, though, good luck with middle school and the hormones and all that. You'll graduate eventually.

    T3 was a decent picture...

    by CurtKobain

...if you're not a pathetic loser with a man-crush on Cameron (the director not the little tart from Sarah Connor Chronicles). The reason people rag on T3 was because their precious King Of The World Cameron wasn't directing. That's all those mutant homunculi care about. The fact that it was a pretty decent action pic doesn't register, because those retards are too busy worshipping an image of J.C. (that's James Cameron, not Jesus Christ). Personally, I can't wait for T4, although on opening night I'll probably have to push through a stinking crowd of syphilitic protestors holding up placards emblazoned with Cameron's ugly mug. I'm there opening night anyway.

    by Cotton McKnight

except story. I'm sorry, but it just is. T2 didn't really DO anything for the Terminator Universe except introduce a lot of questions that T3 answered brilliantly. If you get down to it, the movie can be summed up this way: <p>Arnold is a good guy, and a new terminator made of liquid metal is a bad guy. Great, but that's it. Everything revolved around how to make that possible. Where's Sarah Connor? Why isn't she protecting John? Oh let's make her be in an insane asylum. Okay, well there has to be a story, doesn't there? More than the metal guy chasing Arnie and John, and both have to die at the end right? Okay.. well how about they race to stop skynet. And lets have it end in a molten metal factory so they both can melt.

Now my plot summary of T3

    by Cotton McKnight

Much more thoughtful than that. The movie did not exist simply to show us a new terminator. Were there gimmicks? Of course. But the gimmicks weren't driving the plot: <p>Story is about how John is on the road, off the grid, because he truly doesn't believe that the war won't begin. Enter a new Terminator and it's Arnie counterpart. There are the special effects and action sequences we are all used to, but we learn why everything happens. How important the day T2 took place was. How that was a pivotal moment that changed everything. How Skynet was created by us, activated by us, and wound up manipulating us. Did we even know what Skynet was before? Nope. No idea. It was just this ambiguous bunch of machines that wanted to kill us. And the only hint of anything about the future came in the form of weird dreams by Kyle Reese in the first movie. Which by the way didn't show us anything except a bunch of construction equipment. <p>I would never put down T1 because it's brilliant. I am just saying that T3 rounded out a really good trilogy that complemented T2 beautifully.

McG and co. seem reluctant to admit they liked T3 but if they hated it they probably wouldn't be making a sequel to it, which this is, since they are continuing with Kate Brewster etc.

laserpants, i think you hit the nail on the head by calling T3 "campy fun"...yes, T2 was pretentious in some ways, but some prefer that over the 'tongue in cheek' approach to T3 Talk to the hand was a decade old or more when it was used in T3...brutal...

Dude, are you fucking retarded? I mean, don't bother answering, I'll let this quote from the movie answer it for me:<br><br> "Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The terminator wouldn't stop, it would never leave him. It would never hurt him or shout at him or get drunk and hit him or say it was too busy to spend time with him. And it would die to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers that came over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only thing that measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice."<br><br> PWNED! "All the would-be fathers." In other words, FATHER-FIGURE you fucking douchebag. Now take Cameron's cock out of your mouth, and put your foot back in it you fucking retard. Seriously, don't make it so fucking easy next time.

    by Rommel Catuncan

I find T3 serviceable but pretty forgettable as soon as you finish watching it, it doesn't have a great impact. The best thing is that the nuclear war at the end is almost a relief because at least you know they can't rehash the present-day chase thing and will finally move to the future war. The fuel cell in the chest is so contrived. Claire Dane always seems to cry in a self-righteous bratty way. I don't mind the scenes though between Arnie, Nick, and her when they're talking about the future. I like that the future soldiers are working in burger joints etc. There's nothing particularly new about the action. As for T2, I see the cheesiness seeing it again (esp. in the extended version) but it's more iconic than T3, esp. the characters of Sarah, little John and Arnie. It is a bit too PC. I like the idea of T4 just because of the greatness of T1, almost like it's really the sequel to that movie and you can sort of forget parts of T2 and T3 that are bad. I'm not sure about this John Connor dying (from T3) and they also mention something about Kate and John's kids being important. WTH are they going to do with that? Junior warriors or something?

    T1/T2>>>>T3/T4,etc.,etc.

    by TurdontheRun

Laserpants, look pal, I don't know if you're retarded, or perhaps just mentally ill, but your appearances in every terminator realted talback denouncing T2 are just getting tiresome. IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM is T3 even remotely in the same ballpark as T2 (or the original either, though that goes without saying). T3 was a film made to give arnold one last box office hit before he became governor and nothing more. It has no reason to exist - it adds nothing whatsoever to the story, it looks cartoonish, it cost about 180 million dollars but none of that money is up on the screen, and it revolves around the ridiculous gimmick of a female terminator that is faintly amusing for about 5 seconds. T2, on the other hand, has a reason to exist. It presents the flip side of T1-arnold is now a protector as opposed to a killer (and having arnold be a terminator and not actually kill anyone, without that being in any way dissatisfying,is a master stroke of an inversion); instead of the future being a closed loop, the plot revolves around the question of whether or not the future can be changed (which is thankfully left ambiguous at the film's end). What this means is that the film is a perfect thematic accompaniment to the first film; it is T1's opposite, and is completely complimentary to it. That's why its such a great sequel and not some money making rehash. Now hopefully T4 will be better than the third, but really, the story is done, and without Cameron its not terminator in my eyes. I'd go into more detailed stuff about why T2 is a classic, but quite frankly since you deal in ridiculous hyperbole, juvenile insults, and are very likely trying to get a rise out of people with your ill-considered comments, its probably not worth my while to bother.

    It never fails

    by TVguy4566

Every single Terminator thread has Laserpants with the same tired arguments why Terminator 2 sucks that get shot down every time. I still laugh at his Guns N Roses soundtrack argument. Shouldn't be a George Thorogood soundtrack? "Bad to the Bone" get more screen time than Guns' "You Should be Mine". Axel Rose should talk to his lawyers because Brad Fiedel (Cameron's long time composer) gets writing credits for the score. <br><br> I think to make one of your biggest complaints about a movie is that one song plays for literally a minute during the movie, you got a weak argument to begin with. If that was the case, virtually every action movie in the 80s were crap based soley on their soundtracks. Did people hate Top Gun because "Take my Breath Away" was on it? Beverly Hills Cop suck because "Neutron Dance" was in it? Heck, To Live and Die in LA is still one of my favorite movies and near of my top most underrated movies of all time and that movie was actually soundtracked by a bad 80s band in Wang Chung.

I do see what you're saying but everything that you find unlikeable is part of what makes it so lovable to everybody else...Add that to the fact that T2 was the movie that created the mythos. T1 on it's own was a great story, but the addition of T2 is what created that amazing Sci Fi universe... And yeah baby, can't wait for T4! Would you like some Bale and a Nolan ? yes please. :)

But My Arguments Aren't Being Shot Down AT ALL

    by LaserPants

You just don't agree. You just look over what I said and pretend that its not valid because you don't agree with it. THAT is the very height of subjectivity. Which is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinions, I'm just continually astonished just how upset people get about it! And the personal attacks! HILARIOUS! Its like I just strangled their cat or raped their mother or something. It amuses me! It amuses me just how much emotional energy is invested by some of you in what is, to me, an AWFUL movie. A movie that most of you like because a) you saw it when you were very young (nostalgia!), and b) you saw it before you saw T1. Not everybody here, but most of you. <br><br> To be honest, I couldn't care less either way, I have no emotional energy invested in this, and don't really care what you think of me or my opinion. It just amuses me how easy it is to make some of you guys upset. I'm making you dance. Dance, monkeys dance! Entertain me with your misplaced rage and obsession! Haha! <br><br>T 1000 xp professional just said it best, I think, when he said that I don't like the things that people like about T2. Thats it right there. I hated where it went; it took this awesome hard sci-fi idea and turned into Old Yeller mixed with The Courtship of Eddie's Father. If thats the kind of treacle you guys like, dear god! No wonder Titanic was one of highest grossing films of all time -- the vast majority of humanity, the lowest common denominator, are ridiculous saps.<br><br> For the record, I actually love both ALIEN and ALIENS, because they are both masterfully done films. I also love T1, but hated T2 because one was a masterfully done sci-fi flick on a shoestring budget and the other was a masturbatory juvenile clusterfuck done on a MASSIVE budget. T3 was also a big budget money grab, but it was much more entertaining, and funny, and campy, and exploitative, and featured a cool, dark ending. No ROBOT OLD YELLER bullshit. Again, my OPINION. <br><br> No, but please do attack me and call me names, it entertains me. Dance, monkeys, DANCE!!! Haha!

    by TheHumanBeingAndFish

About the terminator as a father figure, I think Cameron says it literally on his commentary on the "Extreme edition" DVD; according to him, the Terminator, Sarah and John represent the "nuclear family" (father, mother, child) - just like he did in "Aliens".... Linda Hamilton's acting in T2 is horrible, terrible, in particular her hospital scenes, where she's talking to Dr. Silberman about the upcoming apocalypse. Ugh. <Shudder> Speaking of Dr. Silberman, there's an interesting fellow. In T1, he's a psychologist; in T2, he's a (rather successful) psychiatrist who directs an inpatient clinic! Meaning in between the two movie, he rushed through med school, did his residency, took his boards, became a psychiatrist, etc. in jsut a few years. Kudos to the man. Then, in T3, he's a counselor, meaning that in between T2 an T3, Dr. Silberman, M.D., Ph.D., *again* went back to grad school and got a master's in counseling. Odd career choice for such a successful psychiatrist, but oh well. _____ sorry for rambling. Liked all 3 Terminator movies, looking forward to T4. Carry on.

Because from a story standpoint, T3 IS better than T2. For the reasons I mentioned above. Lots of people have posted since I pointed out the flaw of T2 (it was an excuse to have arnie as a good guy and a special effects terminator), but nobody has disputed what I said. Instead, they argue with a guy named Laserpants. LOL!

Why T3 is a waste of time

    by TurdontheRun

Probably no one has disputed those points because they are not 'flaws'. to have a pedantic reprise of T1 with arnold again as a killer would be creative bankruptcy. what would it be like? arnold dispatching hordes of people even more violently and spectacularly like some jason vorhees type character ? because that's the redundant direction it would have gone. and for a 'special effects' terminator with little dialogue they did a good job of making the t-1000 a fairly rounded and memorable character. plus, as someone commented above, it allowed Cameron to explore the idea of a terminator as a stealthy infiltrator who looked like a normal person, like the mooted lance henriksen casting for the original. as I posted above, T2 is a better story than T3, because T3 adds nothing thematically to the two previous movies. a third movie should have gone full bore into the future war and the nature of time travel, since that was territory unexplored. unfortunately the producers were too greedy and play-it-safe that we got two terminators again coming back in time, and the gimmick of a female terminator (what's next - a child terminator?). as for mr. colostomy pants, the less said the better. you can't reason with a mental case, after all.

T3 was entertaining. Jiggling car keys in front of my face is not. Even remotely. Maybe we have drastically different ideas about what the definition of "entertaining" is. Or perhaps "jiggling car keys in front of my face" is a euphemism for something that I'm not aware of...

    T3 has a bad rap

    by nicegoogly

Sure, it has some goofiness to it. So did T-2 (could furlong be any more fem?) Plus, John's age, he was supposed to be ten, he looked more like 13 or 14 in the second film. I am kind of shocked on this board with regards to the hate towards T-3, given the number of geeks present, myself included. It sets the stage for the fact the war still needs to happen. It changed the way it happened because of the events in T-2, but it had to happen to preserve the timeline, John existence. Otherwise, he should have disappeared with the terminator at the end of the second movie. Make no mistake, it got 4 stars and thumbs up from Ebert, but is was always criticized for its paradoxes. T-3 corrects that and compliments the story perfectly. T-1 is a sci-fi flick. T-2 is a mega summer blackbuster. T-3 went back to being a sci-fi flick. It had a provocative ending like Soylient Green, Planet of the Apes or Omega Man (Charleton Heston was the Will Smith of his time). I agree, the T-X is not so great (by 2003, throwing the word extreme into something was very fuckin' brilliant. It was more thoughtful than T-2. T-1 is till the best of the bunch. Orininality, score, lame eighties club scene, real confusion about who was good and who was bad (T-2 ruined a lot of their surprises before release with all of the making of's and trailers). Kyle Reese was not entirely convinced he could even beat the Terminator, that sense of peril never made it into the other movies.

Arnold says to Sarah "I cannot self-terminate. You must lower me in the steel"... why does she have to lower him in to melt him? "Now I know why you cry, but it is something I can never do" haha so stupid! <p> oh and Yackbacker, I agree with you about the time paradoxes, but if you wanna go there, better be ready to dissect the Back to the Future franchise too

So stop the sillyness. You can't all be LaserPants now. Let's all agree that T-Old Hundred and his high school musical entourage were not memorable at all and nobody will care to ever remember T3. That movie was a nuclear holocaust to my admitted Terminator fanboyism. It tried to be the Alien: Resurrection of the Terminator series, and still wasn't even as witty as that movie.

    by Liquid Meddle

And they completely fucked up the "good/bad" angle with the T-850 glitching out near the end. Could you imagine what that would've been like had the T-X fucked with his programming earlier on in the movie? When that idea was originally brought to light (I believe during the making of the movie) all I could think of was a return to the roots of the "T1" Arnold. Fuck me for getting my hopes up.. They could've done so much with that.

  • July 27, 2008, 11:29 p.m. CST

    Let's face it.

    by TVguy4566

If people want to dissect T2 flaws in logic, you gotta do it for T1. Exactly how could John Conner be alive to send Kyle Reese back in time to have sex with his mother and create John? Without John Conner, Kyle Reece never goes back in time and meets Sarah Connor, but if Kyle Reece never meets Sarah Connor, John Connor is never born. How can that happen? That is as big of a rift in logic as a liquid metal Terminator going back in time or a Terminator being damaged enough that it cannot (or fergets how to) replicate voices. <br><br> T1 is still one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever, but there are plenty of logic and continuity problems. People need to stop nitpicking movies really.

I think the difference is that in T1, that "lack of logic" is intentional. When watching T1, you are SUPPOSED to realize that that doesn't make any sense. That's an intentional example of a time-travel-related paradox. That's a bit different than in the other movies, which actually fucked up the first movie's very strange cosmic rules of causality. But T1 is not a mistake. That's just an incarnation of a classic science-fiction idea which has been in existence WAY before T1 was ever even made.

    Things I didn't like about T3.

    by veebeeyes

Remember in T2 when John Connor asks the Terminator, "Well, why doesn't the T-1000 just turn into a bomb and blow me up?" To which we fast-forward to T3, and we find out that the T-800s really DO have giant bombs in them. Which brings up the question...why DOESN'T Skynet just blow up John and/or Sarah Connor? That giant fucking bomb could have been pretty handy in T1, when the terminator was severely crippled and ended up dying mere INCHES from Sarah Connor's face.

I don't know if it is so much an intentional mistake or just something they expect the viewers to take on faith. Yes, it is similiar to other sci-fi paradoxes, but it does fly against logic more. I am not trashing T1 for doing it, but I think although Cameron was trying to go for the paradox of if John didn't send his father back that he would never be born, but he wanted viewers to ignore the paradox of some point in time in the time travel continuum John would have had been born without Kyle going back in time or there would have never been a John Connor to send Kyle back to create John Connor.

yes, the T3 bomb made no sense

    by Seth Brundle

the justification could be that in T1 is a T-800 and in T3 is a T-850 so maybe one of the differences is the power supply, then again, that T-850 thing is never mentioned in the movie so you can't really consider it, even worse...in T3 arnie dropped his first battery, then when he pulled out the other and put it into TX mouth....ON WHICH FREAKIN POWER WAS HE RUNNING!!! HE HAD NO BATTERIES ON THAT SECOND!!! thats why T3 is just baaaaarely acceptable to me, i hated it at first but now i kinda tolerate it, its still the weakest of the 3

T3 also had lots of minor annoyances.

    by veebeeyes

Like the fact that the badass car chase scene (which, I admit, was badass), was completely dependent on a rather stupid premise. Even if the T-X could take control of just about any other computers in the vicinity, I'm pretty sure that most cars aren't rigged to be driven remotely. That scene was like watching a man with no legs run a marathon.

    by Seth Brundle

  • July 28, 2008, 12:37 a.m. CST

    TVGuy

    by veebeeyes

But there WASN'T ever a point in the time continuum in which John Connor was born without his birth having been precipitated by the arrival of a Terminator. There WASN'T ever a version of history in which John Connor became a great military leader WITHOUT having been previously trained to be a great military for the sole purpose of defeating Terminators that don't even exist yet. You call it a mistake, but that's one of the reasons why T1 is fucking cool. You can ask "what was the original timeline like that resulted in the future from which Kyle Reese and The Terminator came?" But there was no OTHER timeline. The past that you see in T1 is the past that is, was, and always will be. There was ALWAYS a Terminator in 1984. Why? Because that's how causality has to work. There HAS to be a Terminator in the past because the events of the future depend entirely on there being a Terminator in the past.

Here is the problem with Lazer Pants.

    by Sidepocket

I love the Matrix Sequels. I know a lot of people hate them, but I like them. I like all three movies. However, you do not see me go into EVERY fucking thread about the Matrix and trying to tell people WHO HATE IT that they are good movies? You know why? It would be fucking stupid. Hence Lazer pants. Oh and here is the thing about T3, like it or not, all it really was about was jiggling car keys. Its entertaining, so saying a movie was entertaining is something to be expected. Actual good cinema actualy goes beyond that. Not to mention the real downfall of the film is that it did the Batman & Robin thing. If you look at it, T2 was Batman Forever. Sure it was big and showy, but it did take itself seriously as a plot even when humor came about. What T3 did was become a parody of a parody. When that happens, you lose everything. Also, just liking T3 for its ENDING (not story, it had none really) is like just marrying a woman for her vagina. Never mind she smells of feet, looks like a truck hit her and had a personality of a bottle of Windex...

    Hey, for me T3>T2 too...

    by spud mcspud

Let's do the list:<P> (1) No "Arnold goes sappy". Yeah, I know they enabled his learning matrix blah blah blah but that end scene was just too much. Come ON! When did the TERMINATOR movies suddenly have to cater to the girlies? 1991, THAT'S when.<P> (2) Pants has a point. For me, Loken is WAAAAY hotter than Robert Patrick. Yes, that is a consideration.<P> (3) The dark ending. We FINALLY got to see what Cameron cock-teased us with but never delivered in T2. At least he could have had the balls to give us Judgment Day in T2, but nooooooo.<P> (4) Edward "Skywhinger" Furlong at his whingiest as the squeaky future Saviour of Mankind, trying to be a tweeny badass but actually being the most annoying bitch EVER. Title has since passed to Shia LeBouef for practically anything he has ever done.<P> (5) Furlong's mate, who was also the best mate in BIG. If you were in BIG, you can never play a badass tween EVER.<P> (6) Massive plotholes in T2 that make even less sense than the Reese-is-Connor's-father paradox in T1. HOW did the T-1000 get back? It has no outer skin! WHY does the T-1000 bother torturing Sarah at the end - "Call to him" - when it could have done so itself? WHY do they assume blowing up Cyberdyne would change anything? They don't even know how many Terminators got sent back yet - or to where!<P> (7) Stahl>Furlong as an actor. And we also get CLaire Danes. And Loken.<P> (8) Set-pieces that are the equal of T2. That big-rig crane vs truck scene. The whole ending where the primitive T-1s etc get activated by Loken. Fucking mini HUNTER-KILLERS! Arnie crashing a helicopter into a base entrance! The cemetary shootout! (Also clever how Sarah isn't in the coffin but the guns are - exploited well for the TERMINATOR TV series). I could go on...<P> I'm not saying T2 wasn't a great big blast on the big screen - I watched it 4 times and absolutely loved it - but I did prefer T3, mainly for the plot (which made MUCH more sense) and that downbeat ending that T2 seemed to shy away from. And, like it or not, Loken is hot, and it affects my judgment. I did enjoy T3.<P> T4 looks shite though. Charlie Bartlett as Kyle Reese?!?!? And why isn't Bale playing a Terminator instead?!?!?

Although I agree that filming much of the movie in the noonday sun takes away from the dark Terminator feel, and I'm not crazy about the "Terminatrix", and the use of "Funky Man" on the soundtrack really irks me, the rest of Mostow's choices were fairly brilliant.
