first a decent series that goes bad and second a poor idea for a tv series
-
I like Raimi, and I think the books could offer a good source for a TV show, but thus far it looks like a slightly more lushly financed production of Hercules or Xenia.
-
until he apologizes for spiderman 3.
-
would kill you all.
-
It doesn't look promising. Hercules and Xena took a couple of viewings to get into but there was a quirk and style to them that made them guilt free, fun entertainment. With Terry Goodkind as the inspiration, I can't see this being very quirky or fun. I'd like to be wrong as there's no sword and sorcery on the TV these days...
-
zedd is all wrong, richard looks wimpy, the only good thing in there was kahlan releasing her power. Is the black guy supposed to be chase? If so way too small.
-
LAME
-
This appears to be another fantasy series, ticking all the boxes, hero tick, hot chick tick, wilds of New Zealand tick, please please put some effect into a series that became a poor attempt a poltical propaganda......
-
Was Goodkind's material any good? Reading on Amazon that the books themselves were mediocre at best, despite being huge best sellers. Political propaganda eh? Do enlighten, where does mister fancy pants Goodkind sit on the political spectrum. I am going to go out on a limb here and say raving liberal commie.
-
for me to poop on. At least they got hot people to play Richard and Kahlan.
-
Goodkind espouses some Ayn Rand type objectivism mixed with a more modern libertarian bent. Very anti-commie/anti-socialist. But this does not really come through too much until book 6 or so, then it really goes downhill from there. Lots of talking, philosophy less stabbing bad guys.
He can write a decent scene and the first couple of books are pretty good. -
That looks really terrible. Keep my tivo at bay. I'm out.
-
For those who have not read the books, just a little outline of the series, not too many spoilers.
A country lad who unknowingly turns out to be an heir to a kingdom and a magical talisman. Think Aragon if he did not knew who he was and mix in Frodo and the ring. A damsel in distress with a secret power of her own. A forbidden love. Both trade turns being captured and rescued for twelve books. Throw in a couple ultimate evils some S&M and a happy ending. -

MORD-SITH = leather clad dominatrix's = hot
by stereotypical evil archer
That's the best part of the books.

Legend of the Seeker: The Quiditch Wars!

I seem to be one of the few people on these message boards these days who had a great time reading these books. I read them all and my wife is on the 7th book and rushing through them. We have both been optomistic with Raimi being behind the production - but the trailer looks to be a huge let down. Looks like a sci-fi series. The landscapes look grand, but the characters are too clean looking and too pretty. Zedd doens't look old enough and Chase doesn't look tough enough. Kahlan releasing her power looked cheesy and Richard just doesn't seem to look like he has that deep intelligence the character possesses. They also shouldn't have changed the name of the series. Any fans of the book who don't know about the show will now probably miss this while thumbing through the channels. All in all, this looks DOA. I'll watch the first episode, but after seeing that trailer, I have no hopes at all for this series. :(
-
One more time oughta do it.
-
FX look good for TV, but if the shows as camp or tongue-in-cheek as his other two shows its going to suck monkey balls all year long, this could be as bad as bbc's Robin Hood! I'll watch the first episode, and it better be one dark, bloody, sex drench fuck-you of a show, because after Spiderman 3 he owes us big time. BUT if its crap! I'm round his house and shitting on his lawn!! And OH BOY will it be stinky.
-
From what I've seen in this teaser...The Seeker's world population is about ten, maybe eleven people total...
-
What an awful husband you must be to subject your wife to the special kind of hell that is book 7. Don't tell me that you cannot skip book 7 and 8 completely and not lose anything. Why did we need the supremely ungifted to threated magic when the chimes were already doing so? After a whole book on richard's sister, how many pages are devoted to her in the rest of the series? I smell filler.
-
Aren't all tyrants by default bloodthirsty and sinister? Or is there a growing tide of fair and humble tyrants that have muddied the waters, so to speak, and demand there be separate definitions?
Anyway, the trailer looks like a spin-off of Eragon... *shudder* -
Bad enough for me to say 'Good Lord'
-
in the making of this series
-
...does this look terrible but they've changed the name thereby eliminating the initial recognition that any fans of the book series my have. Or does "Legend of the Seeker" mean anything to those that've read the books.
In any case, I'll be skipping this. Fuck Terry Goodkind. Fuck Sam Raimi. Fuck HBO. And just give me my Game of Thrones series for fuck sake.
As for Jaime Lannister, he was completely decimated by a BOY king! Tough my ass. -
have you kept on reading?Jaime gets to be a damn good character. my favorite, actually.
-
My opinion of the books was as most have said ok to start, nice idea of psycho bitches in tight leather and eventually one book which is so anti socialist to be untrue.
PS I am pointing this out as I want a story not a party politcal message. -
Richard is named the seeker by Gandalf, oops I mean zedd, when he gives him the sword of truth, making him the seeker of truth, clever huh?
-
Forget Jaime, Tyrion is the Lannister to watch.
-
"Legend of the Seeker" refers to Richard and his sword. Richards character is "The Seeker of Truth" and his sword is called "The Sword of Truth". The truth is the first 3 books were ok. The following books were a repetitive bore. George RR Martin has nothing to fear. Well, except for cholesterol and updating his webpage.
-
Now there is a character I want to see!
-
is warrick davis too obvious? But I think he may be able to pull off the weird mix of pity and ruthlessness.
-
Of course the scary thing with Martin is that you can get attached to a character and then he kills them !!
Still, despite losing a few more pieces (e.g. a nose) than he had at the beginning of the series, Tyrion keeps on going, got to love that in an ant-hero. -
Terry Goodkind's series BLOWS. Read the first 4 books and not only was it derivative of Jordan's WoT (not something you should pattern yourself after) but also the writing was about the most misogynistic I've ever read. I wish I could say he's the worst author I've ever come across but that distinction is held by David Eddings. Pray no one makes a tv series from his novels. As for the trailer, yes it looked amateurish and typical american tv fare - body beautiful types with poor acting. This won't last long, thank God. I'll wait for Martin's Song of Ice and Fire to come out. I'd also wouldn't mind seeing Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn too.
Remember folks! Goodkind blows, Martin rules. That way you can't go wrong. -
No? GOOD! That movie was utter shite! Waste of the talent that was involved--even a waste of the non-talent that was involved, I'm sure there was a brick fence they could have been bulding somewhere. So now another project is changing its name--based on a book written long before Harry Potter--into of all things "Seeker"? It's like anything with Quest in the title that isn't Johnny Quest...the word is tainted! Don't use it! For God's sake, the call is coming from inside the house!!!
-
Which is exactly what this looks like to me, a tweener Xena with a slicker and shinier gloss, but without the benefit of Lucy Lawless. Yeah, no thanks.M-O-O-N. That spells whoosh.
-
now THAT will be a series.
-
But not soon enough!!! :(
And how about the Jessica/Niki from Heroes or Galactica's Six as Cersei?
I'd love to see Carnivale's Samson as Tyrion but I'm afraid he's too old for the part.
-
I have already stated my complete and utter hatred for these books. The cinematography in the trailer looks ok, but everyone looks perfectly groomed, and straight from central casting like in eragorn (I still shake in rage when I think of the two hours I lost watching that abomination). Also it looks like they couldn't afford extras - are there only four people in this series?
-
Anyone know when this series will start filming? I havent heard any updates in a long long time.
-
Peter Dinklage would be perfect for the role.
-
Yeap! Perfect, just dye his hair and cut his nose off!
-
I've read them both. Honestly, I love them both for very different reasons. I don't like the polished look of the Legend of the Seeker. I will watch it tho. As for FIre and Ice, I will definately watch those and get HBO or was it Showtime, just so I CAN watch it.
Now, if they would only do the Dark Elfs series and a decent Dragonlance Series. -

You guys realize when this tanks HBO will pull the plug on Game
by nerdgasm
You just watch. Somebody at HBO will get a whiff of this show, get all scared, shit themselves, and whip the other small testicle types at the office into a frenzy. They will pull the plug so fast it won't even be funny. I'd start the letter writing campaign to save Game of Thrones now...don't wait for the little pin prick suits to get scared.
-
...at least I think so..Us ASOIAF fans better hope that this garbage doesn't scare HBO away from the fantasy genre. In fact, here's hoping that encourages HBO to do something bigger and better.
-
all the shitty tv movies about cleopatra and caesar didnt stop hbo from making Rome...
-
And neither do we watch Legend of the Seeker.
-
Just like Preacher, Fire & Ice didn't survive the change in management at castle HBO, and is now pretty much considered a dead project. At least last I heard anyway. Of course that could change, but I wouldn't exactly hold my breath...M-O-O-N. That spells HBO Sucks.
-
The BBC have agreed to cofund ASoIaF with HBO, so it's a long way from being a dead project. HBO are just taking their time over it. Whilst it would be nice to think this was for artistic reasons so the writers get everything just right, it's more likely to do with the ludicrous amounts of money they've spent on Band of Brothers 2, John Adams etc.
As for the Goodkind series, the fact that they don't mention anywhere in the trailer or anywhere on the website that it's based on the books is very odd.
As for Goodkind's political leanings, based on his books and the character of Dick Rahl in particualr: right-wing. Ultra, ultra right-wing, in a massacring unarmed peace protestors for no logical reason kind of way. -
Then the show won't be a complete disaster. Unlike you retards, I actually liked some of the books in the series and appreciated the message and values. Richard is a good hero figure (for the most part) and there's a reason why the books were #1 bestsellers and crushed most other fantasy authors sales figures.
-
All you people ragging on the series for the Mord Sith and their obvious parallels to a dominatrix need to be more adventurous. The scenes where Richard is tortured by Denna are exhiliarating if you put yourself in his place. Just think about it. Completely at the mercy of a woman who really can make you hurt. You know she's not fucking around. My kind of woman, a hardcore psycho bitch. Stop being so faux outraged, so stiff upper lipped and whitebread.
-
I've said on this topic before that I am a fan of the first few books, and trundled through the rest of the series out of, I dunno, bordom maybe... but I agree with everyone who said this looks too shiny and slick. Everything is clean, neatly groomed and soft looking. I don't buy Horner as Richard and think it's a total miscast.
-
and make him shit maggots into Terry Goodkind's queer little ponytail. Even the bloated and pointless last couple novels he wrote in the Wheel of Time series kicked Terry's lame ass. The Sword of Truth series is the absolute shittiest fantasy series I've ever read. It's trite, unimaginative, derivative, infantile and cloying. If fantasy readers were beer drinkers, Sword of Truth would be Bud Light - unquestionably shitty and horrible, but inexplicably popular. George RR Martin is great, but that fat lazy fuck will never, ever finish that series at a 1 book per 5 year pace. Steven Erickson's Malazan series is terrific, and he cranks out 1100 incredibly complex pages per year - if you haven't tried it, get the first book (Gardens of the Moon) and read it ... and stick with it. It takes half the book to get any clue what's going on.
-
goes ahead, they definately better case Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. It might be the best "little person" role ever conceived of. I would also think about casting Sienna Miller as Cersei Lannister, the little chick from Bridge to Terabithia as Daenyrys, Paulie Shore as Sandor Clegane and Anthony Adams as Gregor Clegane.
-
perfect!
Also, Leo diCaprio as Jaime Lannister and Dennis Hopper as Tywin Lannister -
Tyrion is in his late 20s on the outside. If Jaime was 16 or 17 at the end of the war, and the war was 15 years ago, he and Cercei would be about 32. Tyrion is about 4-5 years younger, so he can't be over 30. The whole cast is pretty young when you think about it. That is my main worry. Who the hell are they going to find that can pull off Dany at 13? Or Sansa at 12? or Arya at 9?
