DiCaprio Developing New TWILIGHT ZONE Movie??
I am – Hercules!!
Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company is apparently seeking to transform an episode of “The Twilight Zone” into a big-screen feature.
The movie DiCaprio has in mind won’t deal with multiple stories, as the movie directed by Steven Spielberg, George Miller, John Landis and Joe Dante did a quarter-century ago. It would transform one episode into one movie. Or maybe two episodes into two movies.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
The studio and production company are quietly putting out word to creators that they are looking for pitches and script ideas based on the show for feature development.
Find all of The Reporter’s story on the matter here.

i hope they raise burgess meredith for a cameo
-
That's right.
-
I barely remember the movie accept that Vic Morrow died shooting it
-
Could work, why not. He should produce shorter documentaries, though
-
Might not translate into a hundred-minute movie.
Might be good though. -
Check out "Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up?" It's got that older actor with the googly eyes, whatever his name is.
-
Part of the appeal of Twilight Zone for me is that far more interesting horror/fantasy/sci-fi stories are told in less time than ninety percent of the shit that supposedly fits into those genres. One episode made into a full-length feature? Fuck it, I'll give it a shot, but only if we get Ole Googly Eyes to cameo.
-
what fucking episode might it be? i'm a little depressed by the dicaprio name attached to it, but still excited... and as a note, there were a heavy handful of episodes that were 48-53 minutes long... keep that in mind
-
dont want to see him get chopped in half by a helicopter or anything. We've already lost one fine young actor this year, dont want another.
-
The googly-eyed actor was Jack Elan.
The hour-long episodes of TZ have almost never worked, back in the B&W fourth season. Not sure why they think longer ones were.
Maybe they'll turn The Obsolete Man into an action adventure Michael Bey thriller. -
I've wanted to do a new Twilght Zone series, and or, movie, for a while now!!! The many Twilight Zone remake series and the movie, all absent of Mr. Rod Serling, have each been an uninspired embarrassing mess. They are not smart, and tarnish the original series, its memory, and the brillance of my greatest writing hero, Rod Serling. So, what is my idea??? I'd be glad to pitch it if given a pitch meeting...it is a very interesting take on the Twilight Zone...one that will make you smile!!!
-
You better get on this, so finally you can make a movie that at least makes sense as to why its a twilight zone rip off.
-
Thanks for your post. I'll certainly look into the contest...it would be a great way to vet and discovering new talent that may not have the connections to enter the Hollywood sphere of influence through traditional means. Thanks again...and have a good and safe flight buddy!!!

Is Kick the Can in the TZ movie the worst thing Spielberg has do
by rev. slappy
I think it's worse than WotW.
-
Spielberg and Landis came up a tad short but Dante and Millers segments are both really terrific--and the Albert Brooks opening is just classic. I'm not sure an "anthology" movie would work these days since in didn't really work for anyone in 1983 either.
-
Waiting...
-
...googely-goo!
-
that would be kick ass.
-
Donnie Darko,Southland and even an actual episode from the 80s The Box are strait up Twilight Zone films.Darko being the prime example...thats strait out of the Zone.
-
I'd rather drink cold puke strained through Hitler's sweaty y-fronts than have to sit through that again.
-
what happened to DiCaprio producing Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle? Or did i dream this was happening?
-
Fucken oath, that would be the micky
-
YEah, it doesn't "exist" anymore, but fuck it! Fuckin thing sucks! Actually it doesn't, which is why I'm talking about it, it really is good. Looks fucking beautiful.
-
a lot of the episodes of the original series were one hour long.
-
94 minutes of the guy who plays Kirk in the new Trek movie screaming about something on the wing. With cameo by Leonard Nimoy but not Shatner...
-
I thank you, sir.Every time I see Mr. Élan pop up unexpectedly, I get a warm, fuzzy feeling, almost like it's Christmastime. It could be the Scotch, though. I can never tell
-
beat it
-
Unless they're CG.

movie. must i wait forever?
-
It was Jack Elam, not Elan, just for accuracy. I don't know how well just one episode as a movie would play, especially when you already know the major twists and turns that you can expect based on the original episode. But a feature of "To Serve Man" might be pretty interesting when I think about it.
-
Jack "Googly Goggles" Elam it is. Thanks ParallaxmjmI know a few people with "blue eyes" (one blew east, one blew west), and I always feel like I'm playing eye-tag when I'm speaking with them.I suppose the only way to pull off a feature-length Twilight Zone consisting of one storyline is to take several episodes and interlace them so that the individual stories wouldn't be able to stand out on their own.Any thoughts?

Ever see 'Defending your life"?Mel Brooks may very well be a genius...hell for Young Fraknenstein alone he's worthy...but Albert Brooks? Here and there funny sure but Albert Brooks? Back in the day, yes...but now? Really?
-
Wasn't he either starring in or producing a live action Akira?
-
More of a yutz than a genius, I'd say.
-
An actor of minimal talent and appeal. Anything he's involved with (including Titanic) is pretty much guaranteed to be simple-minded pablum... everything The Twilight Zone WASN'T.I'll pass and watch the real Zone for free on late night TV.
-
smarten up!
-
...anything he's been in (or worked on) lately has been complete ass. Forgive my ignorance but wasn't he primarily a writer/stand-up-act back in the day? If he is a genius, it is due to his early work with SNL back in its heyday. But lately? Genius? You sure? "Defending your life" actually made me angry and apparently, he's the "genius" behind the movie in almost every respect (wrote, directed, acted, etc). And 'The Muse'? Are you fuckin kidding? You can't possibly be inferring his "genius" from that horrid piece of shit are you? Even his voice was somewhat annoying in Finding Nemo altho that is an excellent and beautifully animated film all around (Rush as the seagull is simply brilliant casting).Again, echos of past genius do not equate to continual permanent genius unless said past genius is truly untouchably brilliant.I'd argue that Brook's early SNL work is damn close but not enough to give him a free pass to genius-land forever. You have to up the ante in the genius game and, in my opinion, I've not seen microbe one from Brooks lately. "Finding comedy in the Muslim world?" (or whatever the hell its called) Really? Shit, it might be good but it sounded like a damn 'Ishtar' remake so I just couldn't be bothered. Early SNL genius? Of course; no question. "The Muse", "Defending your life" genius? Well, then I suppose we'll agree to disagree on what "genius" actually means.

Right, Elam. The problem is, you could make a movie out of a TZ episode. Problem is, you'd have to choose from the mediocre to lousy episodes that nobody really remembers or cares about. The best and most interesting ones are the 22 minutes ones where Serling knew how to get in, tell his story, and get out again. Episodes like The Invaders, Time Enough at Last, Eye of the Beholder, Passage for Trumpet, Game for Pool, It's A Good Life, The After Hours, Shadow Play, Death's Head Revisited, The Obsolete Man. And the reason they're memorable is because they're short, and get the job done. Turning a good TZ episode into a full-length movie makes as much sense as turning War & Peace into a 22-minute skit.
-
One exception. Yes, you could make a movie-length version of The Odyssey of Flight 33. Heck, make a miniseries. Then call it "The Langoliers."

If it hasn't been filmed before, it can't be any good.

Guys take a chance, what is 5 minutes wasted on one pitch? If you don't like my pitch, simply give me the boot, but if you like it...we have something??? Stranger things have happened in the Twilight Zone, but you never know unless you take a chance on new talent.

If youre gonna produce this movie, stay away from stunts involving helicopters...heh
-
This is one of the best original episodes in my opinion. It SCREAMS of a feature length re-do. Dicaprio, are you reading????

Drive your little Prius somewhere far out into the wilderness and build yourself an opulent "green" shack and leave the film world for good. Thanks, Leo!

I have had it for years, but no where to go with it. Leo give me a shot!!!
