RED SONJA poster finds a home on MTV via Comic Con - Now with Details from the Panel!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... I talked to Rodriguez about RED SONJA in one of our recent chats - he's not directing the film as initially reported, but he is producing it. This poster though would seem to hint (hopefully) at the visual motif and style he's going for. That scarlet rose red hair on Rose as Red Sonja is stunning - and I'm very curious to hear the details from the panel today with Robert & Rose... Does he have a director yet? Are they cool? What sort of scale are we going to get? Why isn't he directing this? Who is? And why isn't he doing a giant CONAN movie?

I was at Comic Con today and attended the majority of the Red Sonja panel.
Here's some tidbits:
--Director will be Douglas Aarniokoski. He was at the panel with Rodiriguez and McGowan.
--Rodriguez said he will be heavily involved in the production; even shooting some scenes. He took a Producer credit to avoid problems he had like with Sin City and the D.G.A.
--They said this will be an origin story inspired by the old and new comics and having little to do with the original film.
--They focused on this being "a tale of vengeance"
--Rodriguez wouldn't name the villain(s) at this point. And, other than McGowan no casting decisions have been made.
--Rodriguez mentioned wanting to do a Conan companion piece in the same mood and visual style as this Red Sonja.
--McGowan said she is about to begin training with the sword choreographer who worked on the Matrix films and one of the top free running/parkour people in the world. Sorry, didn't catch their names (though the sword guy is not Woo-ping Yuen). I inferred that they are hoping for a kinetic fighting style that moves dynamically over the environment.

Normally I'm against any remake, but this sounds interesting to me. Maybe knowing how horribly fucked up Brigette Nielsen became has tainted the original too much for me, I dunno. Looks like they are basically going to make it a female 300, which is fine in my book!

Yes she has big boobs and a nice body, so she's better than McGowan already and cant really be a worse actress, but her face is too 'nice girl' from all the pics I've seen. We need someone that can look both beautiful and intimidating in a 'she can kick everybody's ass' way, and I dont get that vibe from Diora. But she's mostly unknown so that's a plus for her. Cant cast a big star for that part I think.

What, exactly is "every indication" that this will be done in same style as "Sin City" and "300"? You do know that Rodriguez has only made ONE movie in that style, right? He also made "El Mariachi," "Desperado," "Once Upon A Time in Mexico," "From Dusk Til Dawn," and "Planet Terror," right? None of those movies were done in that style.

Rodriguez will take what was a charmingly campy movie that has a certain innocent appeal, and turn it into a sensationalistic gore-fest. No Arnold. No 6'2" vixen, rather a skinny, pale, unathletic beanpole. Though the makeup and sword licking makes her appear extremely fuckable.

Triple H is already at the top of the list to play Thor, and I think he's better for that role than for Conan. You need someone muscular AND agile for Conan, H can barely move anymore with all the leg surgeries. Plus he cant act for shit beyond his wrestling persona if Blade Trinity is any indication. As for Beth, is she really that short? her build makes up for it, but maybe its because she's always wrestling against these tiny women that I picture her bigger. Pointless argument now, we're stuck with McGowan so unless the trailers look absolutely crazy awesome I probably wont waste my time.

Red Sonja is the character from and name of an 80's fantasy-adventure flick costarring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a barbarian warrior. The movie was campy with a certain innocent charm that made it very watchable, especially for kids. Rodriguez is going to completely FUCK IT UP.

Red Sonja needs to have nudity and violent action. I am glad he is not going the Sin City route on this since it should be made the Conan The Barbarian way.
Highlander: End Game was not that bad and was ok Directed. The love scene was hot and the action was good. It was no original Highlander but, Rodriguez could do worse in picking a Director and perhaps the Director has grown. -
Rodriguez sucks. He hit his high water mark with Sin City. He'll never matter again. Plus...he's a douchebag for dropping his wife for that skank.
