Holy Shit! Three minutes of TRON 2 shown at the Disney panel at Comic-Con! Quint has the story!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Holy shit! TRON 2!
I’m probably going to short change Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino here who were the majority of the Disney Panel, but HOLY SHIT! At the end they showed 3 minutes from TRON 2 which has been whispered about, but wait until you get a load of this:
The footage started with a computer generated guy peeking around a corner. He had light blue glowing lines on him. As the dude peeked around the corner a sound can be heard, a low rumble.
Keep in mind they didn’t announce what this was, just that it was a surprise presentation.
The guy hears the sound, getting louder, and he runs down the corridor, black obsidian walls. A vehicle speeds behind him and he jumps in the air, throwing a stick out in front of him and suddenly we’re underneath him as he jumps for it in mid-air, the lightcycle forming around him. He hits the ground running and the lightcycles battle.
They aren’t turning at hard angles anymore, the movement more fluid. The cycles slam into each other, knocking each other around like in a car chase, but the yellow and blue lines don’t touch in any of this.
The yellow cycle runs up on another level with a transparent floor, keeping an eye on the blue below. They get back on the same level and more close calls.
The guy in the blue cycle sees the crack in the wall. THE FISSURE that we know and love. The blue cycle races toward it, barely in the lead and makes the crack, the yellow cycle skidding to a stop within inches of the wall.
After a beat the yellow cycle speeds off. Then we’re with the POV of the blue cycle taking the turns in the fissure slowly and carefully. Then we see the yellow cycle racing along the top of the canyon, looking down at the blue cycle, then speeding ahead.
The blue cycle exits the other side and heads down a light-outlined corridor in the giant open space, seemingly alone. Out of nowhere, the yellow cycle puts on a booster burst of speed and cuts the blue cycle off.
The blue cycle crashes into the yellow line, shattering the vehicle and sending the blue rider flying through the air and crashing hard to the ground, sliding to the edge of a precipice, but he catches himself at the last minute, pulling his body back over the lip.
Then the most shocking moment of the trailer. We cut out of CG and into live action. A grey-haired and bearded Kevin Flynn… Jeff Mutha-fuckin’ Bridges… is sitting in a stark white room, seemingly meditating. His eyes open and he stands, walking to a large rectangular window and we see he’s overlooking the arena. He looks down at the yellow and blue rider.
The blue rider is defeated on the ground and the yellow rider walks toward him. We can see the blue rider’s face, a younger guy. The yellow rider’s face is obscured by a black faceplate. The yellow rider reaches back and grabs his disc from his back.
The blue rider looks scared and says, “Hey! It’s only a game!” The yellow rider’s visor lights up and it’s young Flynn’s face, 1982 Jeff Bridges. He says, “Not anymore,” and then goes for the kill. As he does the screen cuts to black and the title comes up: TR2N.
So sweet!!!
The CG looked like a really high end computer game, almost photo-realistic, but the lightcycle chase was completely nostalgic, hitting all the right notes. It's as advanced as you'd expect jumping from 1982 games to 2008 games... And Flynn's a bad guy! Holy shit!

Probably not filming yet. Disney whips together a trailer, hires Bridges for a day on a closed soundstage, puts it together just for Comic-Con. Still, this movie will be tits. I want to see it yesterday.

Not only did they show the Wolverine trailer(a good 2-3minutes), Hugh Jackman himself jumped out and gave an awesome greeting. He jumped off the stage to personally thank Len Wein for creating the character that he is playing. Then they showed an awesome trailer for XMEN Origins: Wolverine, with a nice look at Gambit.

Please kill this ridiculous trend of putting numbers into movie titles to try and make them sound "hi-tech" and "cutting edge". If you really must, changing an I to a 1 or an O to a 0 is acceptable, but how does changing the letter O to the number 2 make any sense? Just call it TRON 2, bitches.

Search your computer messiah complex, you know it to be true. TRON is one of my all time faves. I loved it when I was a kid. Man, the age of coin-op games was great. And that TRON game was one of the best EVAR! The cabinet even looked cool, all neon blue and shit. Awesome. I hope this new one is cool.

When I was a kid my moms bought me a shit load of red and yellow frisbees for my birthday party, and all my homies and me went out to the playground and just threw them at each other. Tron was our favorite game for weeks. I hope Bruce Boxleitner show up in this since B5 is dead.

Disney (i.e. Buena Vista Games) dropped the ball with support for the Tron 2.0 video game which lead to poor sales. I believe the game was going to be used to gauge interest in a movie sequel.
It's curious to me then that they are reviving this property (discounting a possible money-grab). Don't get me wrong though, Tron's a wonderful piece of computer-geek-awesomeness. -

Nah, that would be no good, unless there's a good Flynn too. Yes, Tron was the original Matrix premise, but must admit, the original Matrix (not sequels) improved upon it immensely. Yes, light cycles were cool, but not sure the Tron world 'works' as a film...Matrix really just did Tron right. What made Tron was Bridges performace and just the originality of it, but overrall , the story was kind of weak. It actually works as a religious allegory, but that doesn't make a great story necessarily. It would be nostalgic, but not sure what else Tron has to offer that films like Matrix and the Terminator already have done, and done better.

TRON was a pretty bad movie to begin with. Maybe they can rescue it for a sequel, but its reputation is MUCH, MUCH better than the movie itself, which is duller than an 18th-century butter knife left in the rain. The irony to me is that it's compared to a "high-end videogame" ... and yet everyone's giving "The Clone Wars" crap for ... looking like a videogame. Weird.

Especially moronic are the ones calling for Lisberger again. Like I said. Watch the movie. A bit of awesome concept design and you guys are all fooled. I love it in that bad movie way, but at least I recognise that its only really great parts are because of Mead and Moebius.
And what a bunch of hypocrites. "Fuck sequels and remakes! Give us new and original stuff!" you all say. One whiff of Tron 2 (or "Troon" or however you pronounce it) and you're (nearly) all a bunch of chest-bumping fat kids. -

... We should be thankful that it's a sequel as opposed to a remake. Kind of wish they'd just leave it alone though. In my experience more stuff gets ruined by prequels/sequels than enhanced, particular when the first film worked perfectly well as a standalone story.

This sounds awesome. The original Tron remains one of the few times CGI has been used to create an entirely fantastical world not bound to the way optics, gravity, and physics work in our own. With some great art direction and scripting this could be an awesome visual feat... Fantasia for the 21st century. Or, you know, they could just be trying to make a quick buck. We'll see.

If you don't think so, you're probably one of them young, disrespectful whippersnappers (i.e., Quint's age or younger). TRON gave us something utterly NEW in cinema. It was groundbreaking, exciting and funny. One of my best movie theater experiences I've had--EVER.

I saw Tron IN the theater in 1982.It's my favorite movie EVER and I've waited over 25 damn years for a sequel. let's not ruin it with trendy internet meme fvckos, ok?
I love what I've seen with this proof of concept promo Disney dropped at comic con. it's about Goddamn time they had faith in a sequel. I just hope this truly happens.
