Come on guys, it's hardly like this is an original poster idea to start with, it's been done many, many times over the years in promo art, title sequences and poster design. The problem here isn't that these posters are highly derivative, it's that they were unlucky enough to both be derivative at the same damn time. And because they are for different, non-competing markets, one for tv, the other film, it won't be a case of waiting to see who "blinks first" and changes either. M-O-O-N. That spells much ado about nothing.

I just don't get the supernova heated love fest for Diablo Cody. Seriously, I've never seen such a media darling where the media ITSELF has decided it will love and promote her ad nauseam...which in turn only helps to excite her die-hard fans, who seem mesmerized over the fact that she demonstrated SUCH literary brilliance and skill by comparing a banana to a Transformer (or some such thing)...and then on the complete other end of the spectrum there is just pure hate for all things Diablo Cody. In the end, I guess she'll just continue to spur a lively debate until she does actually produce a much bigger body of work for us to genuinely look at and review.Then again, what really DOES drive me absolutely bat shit crazy is this media darling aspect of her -- especially for someone that has only written ONE thing, and which frankly wasn't all that good to begin with and which honestly didn't deserve the Oscar. Hell, I'd argue it didn't even warrant an Oscar NOD and you could have easily found other screenplays more deserving of award attention for last year. But not to get political here, Cody is like Obama right now -- they both have that Papal glow the media has decided to bestow upon them, hence you can never say anything bad about them or -- gasp! -- dare that you should actually disagree with the media's assessment of them. It's bad enough being TOLD that I HAVE to love them, but what gets my goat is that I can't even DARE to question that love.Case in point even on a basic AICN scale: a recent talkback where even Moriarity seemed to get bent out of shape defending Cody, where he challenged everyone in the Talkback by stating no one could go more than 5 posts dissecting her work without turning into a sexist name-calling pig. Which was a challenge I didn't even understand coming from Mori. Why would I need 5 posts to explain that Cody's writing style seems hack-like and groan-inducing since all it centers on is calling out hip cultural references AND THEN having all your characters sound ALIKE, as opposed to each sounding different which would be crafting TRUE characterization?So for those like me that think Diablo Cody is vastly overrated, here is the best thing I've seen yet that truly captures the "magic" of her writing style...http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/diablo-cody-screenplay.php

I figure Diablo Cody's lifespan in Hollywood will be equal to about Kevin Williamson's. They both arrived writing a hot movie, Scream in Williamson's case. Like him she's getting a TV series and other movies from it. Then like him, she will probably fade to obscurity with her place in pop culture history secure. Both are Trick and a half ponies. Just a hunch. We'll see.

Plus, she's just a bit hotter all round. There's a sense of discovery with Paquin. Fox is a bit, well, sluttish.

And this is coming from a guy who's favorite tv show of all time was Six Feet Under. Every single character on True Blood is over the top and obnoxious.

I saw Ball last night at a screening of Towelhead and he made similar remarks during the Q&A. His point is that victims of rape can overcome the obstacles of the trauma and ultimately become stronger people. The event doesn't need to destory them and alienate them from sex like some sterotypes of this crime might lead some to believe. Essentially the victim can overcome and live a healthy life. None of his comments seemed strange. He's trying to bring greater understanding through his movies, TV shows and scripts.

I enjoyed it for what it was. It pissed me off to no end when people called it an indie comedy considering it had fuckig Jason bateman and was directed by the guy who did thank you for smoking. But I agree the reaction to diqnlo Cody has been way over the top. Let her write a couple more things before hailng her as the second coming. Please. She's written one decent screenplay. That's it. Nothing spectacular.
