As BATTLESTAR Wraps, One Of Its Critical Producers/Directors Lands A New Gig...

Published at:  Jul 22, 2008 6:49:19 PM CDT

Merrick here...

Michael Rymer, director of many of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's biggest and bestest episodes, will direct & co-produce the film adaptation of Top Cow's WITCHBLADE comics. This isn't Rymer's first foray into theatrical films, he previously brought us the movie version of Anne Rice's QUEEN OF THE DAMNED.

Rymer, who has directed 20 episodes of the revived series and produced 40, is filming the "Battlestar Galactica" series finale. The Australian filmmaker recently wrapped production on "Revolution," a two-hour series pilot for NBC Universal Media Studios and the Sci Fi Channel.

...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

Actually, my understanding is that the mega-emotional series finale of BATTLESTAR has already wrapped filming. Ron Moore talks about it HERE. Desperately seeking spoilers...

Never watched the new Galactica, heard it was good and doing real well, why are they ending it?

    agreed.

    by thenorthlander

Queen of the Damned was shit (WHY didn't they film The Vampire Lestat???) and I can't imagine a Witchblade movie that looks like the comic book.
If it's got anything to do with the live action TV show, that'll be even worse.

    A real talent

    by lonegun

With Michael Rymer, you always knew you'd get a solid episode of BSG. And he did set the tone and style for the whole phenomenal series in directing the initial mini-series.

    Enjoyed the previous "Witchblade" series

    by drunken rage

Yancy Butler was the star, as I recall. Only lasted two seasons, had a massive reboot between seasons (kind of a "the first season was a dream" sort of thing). Very worth watching, but don't think it's available on dvd.

    A side note worth mentioning..

    by scriptgirl00

Before Rymer committed to WITCHBLADE, there was speculation he would be directing the screen adaptation of DC comics 'Preacher'. The script is fantastic.

The word is Rymer pulled out of Preacher because he was unable to get his choice of actor for the title role....None other than Captain Jack.

Not only does her talkback get reduced to douchebag central, I get to see this spammer "suscribe" shit in other talkbacks. Try walking away from the keyboard after you make your comments.

    Good news for Witchblade

    by dogmatic

Never even read this comic but anything that someone who helped make BSG what it is involved just increased its chances by 1000% Good luck to all involved.

    John Cheesy Fucking Barrowman?!

    by pokadoo

I'd rather they never made a Preacher film or series than cast that over-exposed twat. I don't normaly like hating on people on the t'internet, but I just hate that guy. He was okay-ish at first on Dr Who, but here in the UK, he's on TV practicly every time you change the channel, on chat shows, game shows, cookery shows. I'm surprised he's not reading the news! With his cheesy grin and fake american accent. If someone involved with the making Preacher wanted him, I'm glad he's walked. He'd have probably cast Myleen Class as Tulip. What a Cunt!

Queen of the Damned vs BSG

    by luis1210

I'm having mixed feelings, BSG rocks hard! but QOTD is pure unadultered shit, not only for what it does to the source material but because it's an awful movie altogether, it doesn't have any redeeming factors. He should try to get that erased from his resumé.

As long as it has Cylons and Vipers and rag-tag fleets and false messiahs (or real ones), and gratuitous sex between humans and Cylons, humans and humans, and cylons and cylons. And it has lot's of Tricia Helfer nudity. And Battlestars. And Galacticas, too.
