    by horace cox

Hello Craig Ferguson! Fallon sucks. Period. He will be the death of Late Night on NBC (at least until they replace him after a few months when ratings tank - particularly in the key advertising demos).

Will Fallon laugh at his own jokes again?

    by tvguy4566

He and Hortio Sanz actually thought comedy was breaking characters in lame sketches and laugh at your own lame jokes. I seriously hope he brings that same high comedy to his late night show.
The sad thing is that NBC has been paying Fallon for a few years now to not work and sit back and wait for Conan's old gig. Does NBC really think Fallon is that funny or does NBC have some kind of contract that they must give ex-SNLers who can't get a movie career kick started a TV gig (see Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and now Amy Poehler).

Don't worry, the network will make him tone down his act and become safe. 11:30 is still considered skewed older and Conan will be as vanilla as Leno in no time. Look at Letterman after he moved to 11:30 (granted a different network).

does it really matter who hosts these shows?

    by the milf lover

they're all basically 10 minutes of 'current events' monologues (accompanied by sidekick/bandleader's stupid laughting so you know its funny), then a skit, then 20 minutes of guests talking about whatever they're selling that week with a few 'personal' anecdotes thrown in so we can relate to their '$20 million a movie paycheck' lives. Maybe these shows had an actual purpose before the advent of Entertainment Tonight and its 375 clones (not to mention the internet) but nowadays? And Fallon must give one amazing blowjob to be getting that job...

    R.I.P. Late Night

    by fastcars

Jimmy Fallon is number one on my shortlist of TV hosts I'd NEVER WANT TO WATCH. He's also numbers two and three. And four. And five. The only people who will watch his show are dumb girls who think "he's cute." So I guess it'll be a hit. What a sad world. So many great improvisers and stand-up comedians, and NBC goes with crap on a stick.

cuz im not really sure that conan will play for the 1130 crowd...and as leno's ratings havent fallen, and he is being pushed out...look for abc to finally dump niteline and bring him over...fox may make a play, but he will stick with one of the big 3...question will be whether he stays in la or heads to nyc

    by mullah omar

That would be more up his alley.

I hate Jimmy Fallon. This guy will destroy LATE NIGHT. I can't believe that NBC doesn't see this. They deserve what happens to them if they go through with anointing this guy their LATE NIGHT host. The show would probably stand a better chance if NBC just rotated their pages as hosts.

    by skimn

It was as though it came from one of Gervais' shows. Letterman is asking these innocent "get-to-know-you" questions about favorite sports and pets...and Gervais is playing along, but also looking like "what the fuck is going on here?" Priceless.

One can hope....put Leno on at 11:30 on ABC....it would be the nail in NBC's coffin.....Ferguson is better than o'Brian and with Fallon coming it wont even be a contest...Hell his opening monolog now is better than Lettermans...

What;s with the Jimmy Fallon hate

The Jimmy Fallon hate comes from

    by smackfu

him not being remotely funny. The only laughs he ever got on SNL were when he was a) ripping off Adam Sandler or b) 'accidentally' cracking up during every second skit he was in.

here's a pretty good litmus test. The Youtube test. Go to youtube.com and search for the name of any comedian, and you'll usually find pages of their very best stuff. Do this with 2 or 3 other comedians that you like. As you go down the list of their vids, you'll no doubt be taking a stroll down nostalgia lane, fondly reviewing all the things they did to make you love them as a comedian. Now do Fallon. What are your results? Right. Pages and pages of him doing corny songs and drawing attention to himself by interrupting other people's moments with his 'spontaneous' crackups. As you browse this list of results, it slowly dawns on you that Fallon has no funny moments, no highlights, no evidence of anything that could have elevated him to stardom. His popularity was a fad, and the attention undeserved.

    Craig Ferguson

    by u-stu.com

I agree that Conan has became less funny over the last few years. He seems to be doing the same jokes every night and using the same formulas over and over. I understand this can work to some extent but he just runs anything that works into the ground. Chuck Norris got overused, Triumph hasn't been funny since the Star Wars Premiere skit, making fun of Max Weinberg's response to "It's gonna be a great show tonight huh Max?" is always the same... unless Jimmy Vivino's standing in as band leader. Also, acting COMPLETELY amazed at the audiences reaction to jokes that don't work is no longer a way to turn something around and make it funny. Craig Ferguson may not have back-to-back jokes all the time but when it's not funny he quickly moves on to something that is instead of pushing to make a joke work one way or the other. In the end, Conan has become formulaic for fear of losing his audience while Craig Ferguson has the "nothing to lose" attitude that makes him genuinely funny. Late Night with Craig Ferguson '09!

    The Fallon Hate

    by tvguy4566

He is untalented and unprofessional. Tracy Morgan basically said he wasn't very popular because he was always stepping over everyone's lines and laughing his way through every scene asking everyone to look at him because he is so cute. I'm sure if Morgan is saying these things publically, I am sure a lot of the cast were saying it in private.
It really did seem that the undue attention did go to his head. I think because a lot of the female audience did find him cute, he and others confused that with talent. Personally, I never found him a fraction as funny as he thought he was himself. Usually when a comedian laughs at his own jokes, it is because they aren't funny enough to get the audience to laugh.

    by the milf lover

and also he's too much of a fucking hack to stay in character for 4 minutes instead of laughing like a moron mid-joke. I dont know how Tina Fay put up with him on Weekend Update, but she deserves a medal.

    The sad thing is....

    by tvguy4566

There are a lot of people who watch Saturday Night Live out there who were too young to see the comedic genius of the original cast (Bill Murray is part of the original cast in my eyes btw), Eddie Murphy when he had an edge, Crystal and his cohorts, and even the Carvey/Hartman/Lovitz years and think that Fallon and Sanz cracking up in sketches is comedy. Maybe if it happens once or twice, it can be funny. But as basically part of the sketch, it is basically unprofessional.
If you Google "Debbie Downer" you will find a god-awful sketch with Lindsey Lohan as the guest star with a horrible sketch which everyone seems to think is genius because Fallon, Sanz, Lohan, and Rachel Dratch are cracking up during the entire sketch. Ahhhhh, the bar was set really low during the Fallon years of SNL. They all should have just got baked before the show and acted like idiots. Well, maybe they did.

    agreed

    by the milf lover

cracking up is acceptable when its someone else making them laugh, like when Sandler or whoever would crack up at Chris Farley's antics. But laughing at your own shit is retarded as hell.
and who in their right mind would want to google Debbie Downer?? That's the kind of "new franchise character" crap that made me stop watching SNL in the first place! I'm surprised Lorne didnt make a movie out of her!
