“We’re not sure if [“Caprica” is] going to air as a backdoor pilot,” says Sci Fi Channel's executive vp of programming Mark Stern at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We’re going to take a look at it and maybe just order it as a series from there. We are going to take delivery on it in a couple of weeks and then decide whether to air it as a standalone movie or as the premiere of a new series.”

“Caprica,” for those just joining us, is a prequel to “Battlestar Galactica” about the “creation” of the Cylons, man-made robots that eventually decimated humanity. Other details from the TCA’s “Caprica” panel: * Creator Ronald D. Moore isn’t saying how far from Cylon War I “Caprica” takes place. * Moore says the 12 Colonies don’t get along all that well in this pre-Cylon War I era. * There will be no “Lost”-ish flash-forwards to future events. If anybody brought up anything about preschool-age Cylon Saul Tigh running around while the Cylons were being “invented,” it is not mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter’s story, which can be found here.
