EW’s Ausiello Has All Kinds Of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Scoop!!

Published at:  Jul 20, 2008 6:24:11 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Season three of Austin-based “Friday Night Lights” launches on DirecTV’s Channel 101 this autumn, then repeats on NBC early next year. Entertainment Weekly’s Mike Ausiello has the scoop on what’s ahead:

* Season three picks up eight months later as the new school year is starting.

* Tyra Collette has dumped Landry Clarke again, even though Landry dumped the cute little nerd girl (now off playing Hiro’s superspeedy nemesis on “Heroes”) for her.

* Tyra will be pursued by Tim Riggins’ rodeo star pal.

* Bad boy Tim and Jesus-happy Lyla Garrity are now secretly boyfriend-girlfriend.

* Tami Taylor will become her husband’s boss as the new principal of Dillon High.

* Tim, Lyla, Matt and Tyra are all seniors now, and it sounds like most if not all of them will be off the show if it goes to season four. New characters are being introduced, perhaps as possible replacements, including a freshman who early this season challenges Matt for the role of QB1.

* Matt and Julie remain friendly despite their breakup.

* As previously reported, Dillion grads Smash Williams and Jason Street are leaving the series early this season, but either or both may return at some point.

* No word on what's ahead for Coach Taylor. Presumably he'll continue yelling at everybody to make them better players.

Find this and more in Ausiello’s report on season three here.

Sounds real interesting. I always hated how high school shows kept characters around well into their late 20s/early 30s.

For a better season than last years. Not that last year was totally bad. But there were some weak spots.

    Fuck yeah

Maybe the biggest shaft of the writer's strike was Friday Night Lights not getting the full season played out. Never got to see if the Panthers pulled it out and won State, although from the tone of the season I'd assume no.

And thank god the writers are choosing to jump ahead a school year and go from there, which is a clever reset button for the characters - as we all know a lot can change in a highschool year. Can't wait for this brilliant and criminally underwatched show to return.

    Sounds Good

Sounds like they are trying to plan for the future, but trying to tie up loose ends in case there isn't a future. It sucks they are going to be replacing most of the cast, but I guess it just goes with the territory, you can't have them all stay in Dillon forever.

    Season 2

    by shoe1985

I purchased the second season on DVD, and the storylines weren't as bad as when they first aired. For me, I didn't mind the whole murder storyline, seemed better the second time watching it. It sucks though that the season was cut short, the show seemed to be heading into a good direction.

    hmm

Could've sworn Tim, Tyra and Lyla were all seniors last year. They were kinda vague about their ages, but i was always got the impression they were one year behind Jason and one year ahead of Matt. Hell, Tim was a team captain in season 1.

No Tyra and Lyla after this season?

    by photoboy

    Nooooooooooo!

It almost sounds to me like they're resetting most things back to how they were before season 2, like no Tyra/Landry, Riggins and Lyla at it again in secret, Matt and Julie friends again, etc. Still, the strength of the show was always the performances rather than the stories themselves.

    Tyra

    by dradis contact

Well, as long as she's making out with SOMEONE this season I guess it's ok that she dumped lance.

Maybe she and Lyla can get together.
