    Hmmm...

    by snapt

I don't completely believe that the inside of the human body looks exactly like that. http://www.superosity.com

    wow...those pictures really suck

    by sketchy

Those frames from the movie look absolutely ridiculous. That's good for Disney, but it's not really good for aspiring animators like myself who have to compete with all of the animators who'll be layed off after this movie flops.

    Anastasia

    by dlhstar

I don't think it did very well, partly because Disney decided to rerelease Little Mermaid that year, IIRC, within a week of Fox's Anastasia. In addition, IIRC, ABC wouldn't sell Fox airtime for commmercials for Anastasia simply because of their Disney relationship. I think the biggest problem people are having with animation is that everyone seems to think EVERY cartoon is made by Disney. I work in a theatre and people swore that the new King and I was Disney, and a radio station _CONSTANTLY_ advertised another theatre's Prince of Egypt as "Disney's Prince of Egypt". What we need is a violent porno cartoon done in a Disney-style (lots of song and dance numbers) to get people up in arms against "Disney"...:)

    Boring

    by deckard2019

Is it just me, or have all of the animated projects released by Warners really sucked? Quest For Camelot was an embarrassment and Space Jam actually made Looney Tunes boring. Iron Giant (for all of Harry's raving) and Osmosis Jones look just as bad to me. Somebody tell me what I'm missing. These just look like examples of subpar animation. I'll take Disney or Dreamworks animation (or anime) any day.

Harry said this was CONCEPT ART. Yeesh!

    by brattacus

These are just rough drawings done in preproduction people, NOT finished frames, at least according to Harry in the article. It looks somewhat cool to me - sort of a blending of Looney Tunes with Bruce Timm's Batman/Superman style.

I'd crapped better art than this

    by captainberryman

I've seen more exciting stick figures than this....what the Hell? I liked these drawings the first time I saw them when they were conceptual art for EARTHWORM JIM...and BUCKY O'HARE...and the NUTRINOS in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon...and every other pseudo Duck Dodgers/Marvin Martian rip off. It's like playing SPACE ACE without the hot ass girlfriend Kimmy...and without the great art. This makes that old CBS Saturday morning live action show Jason of Star Command look like Saving Private Ryan in Space. Wanna cruise through the human body kiddies? Hear's a tip...take a cruise to my lower intestine, alright? Travel my butt. See my the sights of my ass. Don't go in for another mondo art retro sci fi rip off. Signing off now...I need my Happy pills. End Transmission.

even "concept art" isnt suppost to make you go "ick"

    by mckracken

brattacus, even concept art isnt suppost to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and you go "BRRRRR...ick!" the character (as hard as he is to see) reminds me of Freakazoid. Its the style that I cant quite "get", these pics arent that great...but who knows, they might pull a rabbit out of their hat and have a winner. and about that porno animated movie....why doesnt everyone start NOW by calling it "DISNEY'S Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.

understanding the concept of concept art

    by lhadatt

Come on people, wake up. This isn't a movie poster or anything, it's pre-pre-pre-production art for a movie that's probably going to look pretty cool by the time they actually start animating. This picture is most likely from some sort of presentation made to executives to give them an idea of what the filmmakers want to do with the concept. This isn't supposed to be anything substantial for us, other than an assurance that the film hasn't been axed.

To the supposed animator: Dude, don't you ever doodle things on a sketch pad or something to iron out concepts? Sheesh.

    Art

    by -z-

I guess I must be in the minority on this, but I personally think the art looks cool, as well as the concept. It's funny, because I have never seen a story quite like this (white blood cell chases after virus). I could swear that some of the people dissing this project are the same people that whine about Hollywood's need to get original ideas. *smack smack* whaddya call this poindexter?

    Geeez....

    by prankster

Maybe the reason we don't get more concept art on this site is because every time Harry posts it people sound off with a bunch of moron comments about how much it sucks, and how Harry should post real news, and how they could crap better art out of their blah blah blah. First of all, while the above photos aren't exactly enticing, I think it has a lot more to do with how they were posted (low rez, and from too far away) and the fact that there isn't a great selection, than the drawing style of the pix. It's hard to get a handle on the quality. However, I do think this could look really cool...it has a bit of a "Batman" feel (ie dark), only ultra-slick and with more of a Looney Tunes/Ren & Stimpy vibe. Of course, with those pictures, it could stink, too, but I don't think so. This is like viewing a painting through a smudged lens at the wrong end of a telescope. The painting could be great, but it's hard to tell. I hope we see more soon. Oh yeah, and for the person who commented on the quality of WB's projects? WB has a brilliant stable of aniamtors, labouring until recently under a very boneheaded regime of suits. Hence, Quest for Camelot (originally a much cooler project), Space Jam, and The King and I. However, the current management is a great deal more farsighted, and are allowing some risks to be taken. WB animation also released Cat's Don't Dance, the Batman movies, and a tragically unfinished "thing of mangled glory" called The Thief and the Cobbler. These show real signs of brilliance, and I think the aniamtors are finally being unshackled and allowed to produce some great stuff. I have a lot of faith in those guys, just watch what happens over the next few years.

Thief and the Cobbler is not Warners

    by junyer

Just to clarify an incorrect statement, Warners was not in any way involved with the release of Richard William's THIEF AND THE COBBLER. That was a Miramax theatrical and home video release, and they're a subsidiary of Disney. -- Amid (Visit me at http://www.awn.com/blast)

Sucky "conceptual" art and Iron Giant

    by clock

Hey this fucking movie's coming out Thanksgiving 2000, they should have better art than this putrid crap. And I've seen that Iron Giant trailer and it's horrible. Looks like a cheap Saturday-morning cartoon. These flicks don't interst me at all. Harry, get some pix from Chicken Run up in this piece, thats worth looking at.

    WOW!!

    by gina

WOW!! I KNOW THAT OPINIONS ARE LIKE ASS-HOLES AND EVERYONE'S GOT ONE, BUT WHY IS IT THAT ASS-HOLES ARE ALWAYS FIRST UP WITH THEIRS??

THE CONSENSUS OVER HERE IS THAT THE CONCEPT SOUNDS TOTALLY ORIGINAL (WE'VE NEVER SPENT 2 HOURS WATCHING AN ANIMATED BUDDY COP MOVIE THAT TAKES PLACE INSIDE THE ANIMATED BODY OF A MIDDLE AGED MAN). AND THAT THIS ART LOOKS LIKE A GOOD START TOO!! AND WHO SAID THAT THE ART THAT HAS BEEN POSTED IS THE BEST YET PRODUCED?

AS FOR THE THANKSGIVING 2000 RELEASE DATE, AS OF MONDAY OR TUESDAY ONE TRADE REPORTED THAT THEY ARE AMBITIOUSLY HOPING TO RELEASE IT 2 FULL YEARS FROM NOW.
THAT'S AT LEAST 6 MORE MONTHS FOR DEVELOPMENT. AND THAT INCLUDES ART DEVELOPMENT.
