Attention L.A. Readers! Mondo Diablo Brings FRIGHT NIGHT and DREAM WARRIORS to the New Beverly This Friday and Saturday!
Beaks here...
Diablo Cody's "Mondo Diablo" festival is entering its second week at the New Beverly, and while I'm going to hate myself for skipping the Umberto Lenzi/Tomas Milian triple feature at the American Cinematheque this Friday night, the 1980s crack cocaine lure of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS and FRIGHT NIGHT is just too much. I haven't seen either of these movies since high school, so what better way to revisit them than with a wild, appreciative, medicated/lubricated/I-don't-wanna-know-what New Bev audience? For a mere $7 admission, I think you'd better join me.
The films are screening both Friday and Saturday, but the Q&As with Frank Darabont (who co-wrote DREAM WARRIORS) and Tom Holland (who did damn near everything on FRIGHT NIGHT) - both of which will be moderated by Ms. Cody - are strictly a Friday offering. DREAM WARRIORS will lead off at 7:30 PM, while FRIGHT NIGHT is tentatively scheduled for a 9:35 PM start time. The Q&As will follow the screenings. I'm a little disappointed that Cody couldn't coerce Craig Wasson to join Darabont for the DREAM WARRIORS chat, but he's probably too busy chasing down Native American purse snatchers to indulge in such frivolity. The Lord's work is never done.
The New Bev has a tendency to get packed rather quickly, so you might want to queue up on the early side. For more info on the "Mondo Diablo" fest, check out the New Bev's official site. I will not be missing that MIDNIGHT MADNESS/WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER double feature.

Hmmm

That sounds Awesome. Pity I'm thousands of miles away.
-
Goofy but fun movie.
-
Blood! Actually, Fright Night was kind of fun. Sure, Chris Sarandon sucked (pun intended) but the lead character's nerdy best friend was actually pretty freaky after being turned. He was probably the eeriest part of that whole movie.
-
Can't believe it's not viable for me to attend.
Oh Brewster you're so cool! -
Just watched it for the first time. A very enjoyable film, after this and Princess Bride it's strange Chris Sarandon didn't get more work, he can play the dashing douchebag like few others.
-
"dinner is in the oven." Loved this flick. Second one sucked. Didn't the guy who played the leads best friend turn to gay porn?
-
Don't you dare say Townsend or Cruise...Chris Sarandon Rocked!

Fright Night is hands down the best vampire movie
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
of the 80's. Yes, thats right, it beats Near Dark as being the perfect vampire movie for the time.

I remember the weird BFF from FRIGHT NIGHT
by the guy who slept through everything.
was in a episode of AMAZING STORIES, he tuned to gay porn!?! No fucking shit.
-
and compared to many other horror sequels of the 80's, Fright Night 2 comes off better than most. The ending is too short yes, but the characters and performances still sell that film. The goofiness of the psychiatrist at the railroad tracks is pretty bad however. That said, I love the nut house scene.
-
Wasn't that Dokken?
-
I keed, I keed...
-
And he's not reluctant to admit it in the least. Good for him.

Yes Stephen Geoffreys did turn too pole smokin movies
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
However he did star in 976-EVIL. That was a pretty cool horror. I think it was directed by Robert Englund.
-
I know. I was watching "Latin Crotch Rockets" and I spit the guy's balls out of my mouth and was like "Holy shit! It's Evil Fucking Ed!"
-
Who's the Cunt now eh'?
-
that is all.
-
... no.
-
"Let's get high." Ahhh, Dream Warriors.
-
that song is BADASS, good times.
-
That was Dokken. The music video ended with Freddy waking from his horrible Dokken dream. Ahhh...classic MTV music videos. Back when they played music. I remember Freddy hosting entire blocks of metal videos from his boiler room.
-
NOES 2,5, & 6 then the series is actually very enjoyable and very coherent.
NOES 1: Classic for every reason
NOES 3: Nancy returns. Introduces the Dream Warriors.
NOES 4: Kills off the last DWs and wraps up that story arc with the Dream Master, Freddy's polar opposite. Perfect ending to a perfect story arc.
They had to f**k it up and make the "Dream Child" and "Freddy's Dead" - two of the worst in the series. They're second only to the abomination that was Freddy's Revenge. Between the ideas of love saving the day and Freddy as a body snatcher, I'm surprised that the cast & crew weren't strung up. The least competent sequel of the bunch.
Really, if the NOES only consisted of 1,3, & 4 then it would've made a great horror trilogy.
At least Craven made up for the true horrors of 2,5, & 6 with New Nightmare.
Now, if only we can get another true sequel - a #8. I understand that Englund is getting older and that he IS Freddy, but I think that somebody else can probably handle the part just as well. My personal choice? Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville. Perfect face type. Great at playing evil and bastardly characters. I think that he'd make a great Freddy.

Here are some of Evil Ed's credits.
by the guy who slept through everything.
"Just 18 and Gay", "Leather Buddies", "Black Men, White Men", "Cock Pit", "Guys Who Crave Big Cocks." I noticed he likes alot of variety.
-
yeah fucking sexy beast ........
damn i love Fright Night ....
what ever happen to Charlie Brewster ? -
Fright Night is one of my favorite vampire movies (not like there are many decent ones to choose from). Wish I could make this.
-
A classic B-Movie. He's the USA Up All Night King.
-
NOES 2 is the gayest gay movie ever gayed. I actually wrote a college paper about the film and its homosexual stereotypes. Think about it. Freddy represents the "monster queer" that Hollywood often uses to portray extreme horror villians (Jame Gumb, Norman Bates). The shower death scene with the coach is waaaaaaay gay. The male protagonist (Jesse, a unisex name) plays the role typically meant for females. He never sleeps with his GF, and when he tries to, the monster inside him (Freddy as homosexual feelings) comes out. He is "saved" by the love of a woman. Not to mention the classic line, "Fred Krueger!... He's inside me... and he wants to take me again"
-
Yeah I know it's latent homosexuality personified in a teen vampire movie but holy shit it rocks. A bit like Superman Returns realy, but probably LESS GAY.
-
God knows they could probably use the gig.
-
I seriously laughed my ass of at your post, that shit is so true, not to mention it's one of the worst sequels ever, pure crap and an obvious rushed cash-in.
-
and no mention of pre-out of closet and future Married With Children's Amanda Bearse? Wonder if she was out at that time??
-
1. The bus on the cliff. Iconic enough for South Park to recycle. 2. Freddy: "Help yourself, fucker!" Otherwise, yeah, bad movie.
-
-LOLcat'd
-
Fright Night is fucking colossal!
-
Elm Street 3 has the most creative deaths.
-
That always creeped me out, the rest of the movie, not so much.
-
Actually it was pretty bad, but of all the Freddy sequels, it was the best bad. They brought back Nancy and gave the victims an interesting twist. I love the appearance of Harry Potter...I mean the Wizard Master
-
Did you see Butt Blazer?
He ain't acting brother! Hiyooooooooo! -
That is about as kickass a double-feature of 80s goodness as you could ask for.
-
These movie run on cable constantly. What's the point of going to see them at the NewBev? The entire line-up for this "Mondo Diablo" is pedestrian. Who hasn't seen all of the films in her festival a hundred times?
At least Edagar Wright, Joe Dante and Eli Roth managed to run a few films you can't find on DVD in their mini festivals. -
Dream Warriors was the best Nightmare Sequel by far. I recently watched Fright Night again, and it's amazing how well that movie holds up. There's a brilliant vampire/wolf to human transformation scene. Great combo use of make-up and animatronics. Brad Fiedel's score is great as well. I remember being disapointed by the sequel, but now thinking back...i do remember some pretty cool scenes. This should be a triple-feature with Monster Squad.
-
People see movies in theaters that play on cable all the time. Midnight showings and New Bev movies are awesome. You're truly not a realy movie fan.
-
For the love of God - please DO NOT RUIN a great film with another cheesy PG remake. Please

Hmm...Fright Night on TV or Fright Night in a theater full of fa
by mcvamp
Gee, no difference at all, right? Lord save me.
-
...when the audience realises that DREAM WARRIORS is, in fact, utter shit. Unless you're a Dokken fan, I guess.
-
Contrary to popular opinion here on AICN Dream Warriors is the moment where Freddy Jumped the shark. He wen't from being a freaky, grotesque, child-predator who killed people with knives, to a wise-cracking clown who popped out of TVs, transformed into bad puppets/stop-motion critters and killed people in increasingly silly ways. Also, bringing back Heather Langencamp was an awful idea because, she is THE SINGLE WORST ACTRESS OF ALL TIME. And that includes porn.
-
Why don't you have a seat in that chair, Mr. Krueger. Is your screen name fingerbang_knives69?
-
That chick was HOT!!
-
As a kid I was deathly afraid of anything related to freddy or that series of movies,tv shows and everything else he had his face plastered on. So my question is ,Is it really worth my time and effort to sit down and watch Dream Warriors?
-
Well. Almost. Stephen Geoffreys (aka Stephan Bordeaux) Amanda Bearse, Roddy McDowall all 100% bent. Still, great friggin' flick. "My Master will kill you for this, not fast but slowly...oh so slowly."
