The Trailer For Ridley Scott's BODY OF LIES Is Now Online!!

Published at:  Jul 18, 2008 8:30:02 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Leonardo DiCaprio joins Russell Crowe, who reteams with Scott here, in this film which comes out October 10.

It's based on David Ignatius' spy thriller novel (HERE) and is one of those CIA -vs- terrorists/"who do I trust?" sorta things (which I'm sure is exactly how it was pitched).

The trailer's available in all forms of Glorious QuickTime (and other formats, too) over at Coming Soon, which you can jump to by clicking...

HERE!!!

I haven't read the book but I've heard awesome things about it; this could make for a great movie.

    by fassbinder79

And what is with that ridiculous beard DiCaprio has in this film? This movie looks like the Good Year meshed together with a below average spy thriller. With how badly the third act turned out in American Gangster and how pedestrian it was filmed I think Ridley has lost his touch. But I love Tony Scott though. I think with the exception of Domino Tony hasn't made a bad movie yet.

With Ridley behind the helm, I'm sure this will be very good. I'm a bit tired of Leo playing the tough guy though. He is a good actor but he in not tough in any way, shape or form.

Anyway I hope this movie is 2.35.1, compared to American Gangster which was 1.85.1. Ridley has to shoot wide in my opinion.

I think Nottingham will be amazing if it ever gets made. I think it could be even better than Gladiator or Kingdom Of Heaven (dir cut).

I think a trailer for Nottingham will blow us away in around 7-8 months. Ridley is really good with that kind of material.

Ridley Scott has lost a little of the magic.

    by rbatty024

I remember reading an interview with him where he claimed he wouldn't have made Alien the same way if he made it today. He said the film was too slow. He was speaking as if it was the fault of the film and not modern day audiences. It really pissed me off. It's also probably why his films have only rarely reached good and have mostly been mediocre for the past decade or two.

That's the vibe I got. Not necessarily a bad thing, the cast is decent. But Ridley can do better than this tbh, i shouldn't be watching one of his films and thinking it's a combo of two other films.

Depp & Bale or Dicaprio & Crowe? Choose

Body of Lies tags these two together as Public Enemies does with Bale And Depp- I think this may be the better of the two leads. But you can't go wrong with either set.

Ridley's next movie will be sci-fi

    by flickchick85

Well, the one after that Nottingham thing, anyway. So obviously, he doesn't currently believe it's dead. Or else he's trying to revive it. Either way, I think THAT'S the one to keep an eye on.
This? Well this should be two-hours well-spent at the theater. With actors like this, you can't go wrong. Though, I'm more looking forward to Public Enemies. I think the Bale/Depp combo is equally as potent as the DiCaprio/Crowe combo, and the story in that one just interests me more. Oh, and DiCaprio's beard is distracting. Can he only grow facial hair on his chin and along his jaw-line? Poor man-boy.

If SF movies are "as dead as westerns"

    by themanbehindthemask

so are the lazy pointless thrillers. I don't know about this one, maybe it's good, maybe even "oscarable" (don't know how to say in your english language!), but I already feel bore like when I saw The Good Shepherd. Where is the imagination in movie making now? Do we really need more terrorists, spy, friendship betrayal etc...? Plus if I want to see the horror of life I read the news or even simply walk the streets. I don't want some wealthy directors and actors telling me what truth is. Sorry if it had nothing to do with this movie but sometimes things must go out! ;)

...Looks way better than American Gangster. And I liked that movie, although it was very flawed. Only thing that I hate about the trailer are those "Enemy of the State" areal shots. But yeah, story seems interesting, and Crowe looks like hes back in his "Jeff Wigand" mode, only as a bastard this time, and thats great. But hey, I'm a fan of Ridleys, even if he shot it with a camcorder in his livingroom and with his kids as the cast I'd say that it looks good.

Even at his worst he is better than most of the pricks out there. Christopher Nolan reminds me of Ridley Scott from the late 70's and early 80's. I wish Ridley would up the ante, though. Imagine Tony Scott's "Deja Vu" with Ridley and a superior sreenplay. Cerebral sci-fi is what Ridley Scott did best.

I saw this trailer in front of TDK. I desperately tried to discern the plot of this movie but could only cobble together that Crowe is the head of some Black Ops-esque group and runs things via cellphone from cafes and cabanas in the US, while DiCaprio is one of his operatives. I think? It all seemed very insipid. Burn Notice on frickin' USA Network has more style than this "spy thriller" Body of Lies. It IS supposed to be a spy thriller, right?
