HAMLET 2 Screening in Chicago! See Capone Interrogate Steve Coogan!

Published at:  Jul 17, 2008 12:14:19 PM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

My fierce dedication to bringing the cream of the crop of this summer's releases continues, and this time we've got a special guest. Fresh from his appearance at ComicCon, master comic actor Steve Coogan (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE; COFFEE & CIGARETTES; A COCK & BULL STORY; MARIE ANTOINETTE; NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM; HOT FUZZ; and the upcoming TROPIC THUNDER) will be doing a post-screening Q&A with yours truly after a showing of his starring vehicle HAMLET 2, one of the most talked about films at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The screening will be held the evening of Tuesday, July 29 at a theater in downtown Chicago (only winners will be given the time and location). This isn't an all-AICN event, but I've still got about 100 seats to fill, and I'm going to make this a little easier than some of my other summer contests because I want Mr. Coogan to get a jam-packed full house when he come through Chicago.

To win a pass (good for you and one guest), send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com. Your subject line should read "HAMLET PART DEUX." In the body of your e-mail, I need your name and the name of the most ill-advised sequel that you have ever seen. If you wish to provide supporting prose to strengthen your argument, feel free; but all I'm asking for is the name of an actual movie sequel (one that has been made or is being made; remakes do not count!) that sucked elephant scrotum.

The contest deadline is midnight Friday night, so get those entries in ASAP for your chance to meet Steve Coogan and see what I'm told is one of the funniest movies of the year (I'm seeing it Friday, and I can't wait!). Good luck.

I always liked that sequence from Last Action Hero, and would love to see it expanded into a feature length. Youtube: /watch?v=SCVc5TaPpe8

    by chewyou812

I'm still getting complaints from people who entered the mutant chronicles drawing that haven't heard back from quint.

    This speaks volumes

The fact that no one is posting is a great sign. This looks like a "smash"..you know...the kind that looks vaguely like Ben Roethlisberger on a motorcycle.

Do Americans know of Coogan's UK work?

    by danowen

Have The Day Today, Alan Partridge, Saxondale, Coogan's Run, etc, been shown on US TV? BBC America, perhaps? PBS? Or do American comedy fans import his DVDs from the UK? I've always wondered, as a lot of Coogan's comedy uses stereotypes I'm not *sure* Americans would "get". Unlike, say, Spaced -- which is easy to understand how it translates.

Americans seem to get Monty Python well enough.
Well except for the cartoons where someone makes a parking space and then 55 cars stack up to park in it. I guess there's a shortage of good parking spaces in London?

    Coogan's UK Work

    by scottindc

His stuff has appeared on BBC America...not sure about PBS (though PBS tends to stick to classics like Are You Being Served and Fawlty Towers).

Not just the only movie I've ever walked out of, but the one I had to go and see in full the next day as a babysitting favour for my kid sister. Abject beyond belief.

    Why does anyone love Coogan?

    by annoyyou

Explain it to me, please. To me, as with Russell Brand, he's something only Brits could love, and even then I still don't understand the appeal of either. Both are unattractive, self-satisfied, preening and unfunny. Now I understand the popularity of and respect given to Eddie Izzard, Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, etc. etc., but I'm baffled by these guys. What's up here?

I would tend to agree. I love the early PA movies but I thought 5 was pretty good despite its lack of Gute.

My entry into the contest has by far the best answer for unnecessary sequel.

    Hmmmm

    by bytor

Well, I have mixed feelings about this one, so I suppose I'll see it with an open mind. Watching the trailer I can see where it could be very funny and it could be utterly awful.

And as for the sequel...how do you NOT go with Blues Brothers 2000? Virtually the same cast (minus John Belushi), director, everything...and so utterly, utterly awful it defies explanation. Sure, I expected it to take a hit losing Belushi, but nothing like this...
