Espenson To Pen Cylon-Centric GALACTICA DVD/TV-Movie??

I am – Hercules
Galactica Sitrep reports that the “Battlestar Galactica” TV-movie expected to shoot in August will be directed by star Edward James Olmos from a screenplay by Jane Espenson (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Firefly,” “Gilmore Girls”). We asked Espenson if she could confirm or deny. Response: "Sorry, no comment." Sitrep says actors being pursued for the project include Dean Stockwell, Michael Trucco, Aaron Douglas, Grace Park and Michael Hogan, all of whom play Cylons. Oh, and Katee Sackhoff. First Again!!

I wish I watched more Battlestar Galactica. But this sounds cool. Cylon centric? Now, that's re-invention.

  • July 3, 2008, 3:52 p.m. CST

    more action

    by Mr_X

    less jibber jabber

  • July 3, 2008, 3:53 p.m. CST

    by SoupDragon

That's good. It must be the story of how the Final Five infiltrated the colonies.

  • July 3, 2008, 3:55 p.m. CST

    I hate pig fuckers!

    by ShogunMaster

That guy needs to be booted.
So are we to make the extrapolation that Starbuck is the final Cylon from this?

  • July 3, 2008, 4:06 p.m. CST

Movie will focus on Starbucks missing time...

    by Heckles

...and will pose more questions to be answered long after our curiosity is peaked.

  • July 3, 2008, 4:07 p.m. CST

    Let me guess...

    by Mostholy

    They'll hit the reset button?

  • July 3, 2008, 4:18 p.m. CST

Glad they are trying to get Hogan.

    by mrfan

Michael Hogan is one of the best actors on BSG.

  • July 3, 2008, 4:23 p.m. CST

so this BSG will be a comedy?

    by Boomers_Lips

since all Jane seems to do is comedy episodes of BSG.

  • July 3, 2008, 4:24 p.m. CST

So Starbuck is the final cylon

    by AxeBox

If this is cylon centric story, and Starbuck is in it as the only human, perhaps she is the final cylon...

  • July 3, 2008, 4:24 p.m. CST

EJO is directing this?...oh good lord.

    by Boomers_Lips

he has directed some of the most awful episodes of BSG. and they let him direct this tv-movie?

  • July 3, 2008, 4:30 p.m. CST

no Tory Foster in this movie?

    by Boomers_Lips

  • July 3, 2008, 4:44 p.m. CST

Eddie Olmos's last directed episode was GREAT

Espenson is a damn good writer, and hey - it can't be as bad as that godsawful concept that is fucking CAPRICA? Can it?
Lunch: chicken curry.

    by dvdhound79

Love her Buffy stuff. Earsot, Superstar, A New Man, Band Candy. She's one of TV's most brilliant writers.

Captbolder: Raper Spike wasn't Espenson's doing...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

That was Marti Noxon's genius at work. Apparently, it doesn't look like she's been working much in the business since her failed FOX series.

  • July 3, 2008, 8:52 p.m. CST

    by GregoryHarbin

She's a fantastic, fantastic writer. Her episodes have been some of the best of the show, and you can really feel her producer presence this season.
Here's hoping she gets picked up by Whedon for Dollhouse, instead of sticking with the (I'm assuming) mediocre 'Warehouse 13.' Or maybe that will be genius. Either way, I can't wait to see where she goes from here.

  • July 3, 2008, 8:54 p.m. CST

    by NoHubris

It certainly looks likes TPTB heard your request for a Cylon centered movie.
It would be really great if they go all the way with your idea and show us the Cylon homeworld!

  • July 3, 2008, 9:03 p.m. CST

YEA! History/Origin of Skinjobs--with 8's running all over the damn place! Or something like that, anyway. (I bet the Hybrid makes an appearance, too........)
happy 4th to you, sir!

    by Shan

You know him as number 4 - Simon. The tall black Cylon. Who doesn't get to say anything anymore. Who also is the only Cylon with no back story whatsoever.

  • July 4, 2008, 4:02 a.m. CST

    Starbuack as last Cylon...NO!

    by spooky2k

You guys call yourselves fans, did you not hear Diana when she said 4 of the final 5 were in the fleet? At that time, Starbuck was in the fleet. So unless she was just lying, it is not possible for Starbuck to be final cylon. My guess is that the last cylon is in the same place the earthlings ran to!

  • July 4, 2008, 4:11 a.m. CST

George Bush was the final cylon.

    by V'Shael

That's why he's trying to destroy us all.

    by NoHubris

Happy July 4th to you too!
Regarding the next BSG movie, I am looking forward to getting a deeper understanding of the Final Five, the Cylon "plan" and so forth. Hopefully, we'll get to see this in the fall after the manner of RAZOR.

  • July 4, 2008, 10:51 a.m. CST

    by NoHubris

Since Simon is the medical/bio-medical Cylon, one role he could play is to offer revelations concerning the (1) births of the next generation of Cylons as well as (2) the the physical nature of the Final Five.
BTW it would be interesting if a Simon, with vital info, had a change of heart and joined the opposition in the Cylon Civil war.

    BSG Book Club

    by chrth

Ok gang, I found a good book for us to read: Stone Gods by Jeanette Winterson. You'll find some real similarities to the show.
Oh, and robot lesbians (It *is* a Jeanette Winterson novel), so there's really something for everyone.

  • July 4, 2008, 12:02 p.m. CST

    Can someone help me out?

    by Bricktops hammer

I saw all the episodes, including the Planet of the Apes ending....but missed Razor. Was it good? Is it coming back on? What was it about?

  • July 4, 2008, 5:37 p.m. CST

    Opinion on Razor is divided.

    by V'Shael

I said it was shite. Everyone else seems to think it was the Dogs Bollox.
It will be repeated at some point over the next year, but you can rent it, netflix it, download it or even buy it. (It's surely in a bargain basement bin somewhere by now.)
As for what it was about... it was about some character we'd never seen before, doing stuff we'd never seen before, in events (some of which) we had seen before.

  • July 4, 2008, 6:33 p.m. CST

    thanx v'shael

    by Bricktops hammer

I'll check it out, mainly b'cause I have little to no life right now. Unemployment rocks!!!

    Friends... in space

    by MisterE

If they should flash back to when the Cylons are infiltrating the colonies, maybe the Cylons should share an apartment and they can film on the old "Friends" set. It could be comedy gold!
